This is so useful, thank you! We just started with quail and we think we hatched at the wrong time - late autumn 🤦🏼♀️ so they've had a lot of low light. I was checking off your list and now I do think it's the lighting so will grab some solar lights (no power at the allotment) and see if that extra couple hours helps them start laying 🤞 thanks for sharing
@@AliBell13109 we've found a builder's light which is rechargable batteries, lasts 5 hours on the lower setting so we've added that and then it turns it's self off so they still have some sleep time..... 🤞🤞
Well, lesson learned - batteries don't last as long when it's cold! So a 5-6 hour light only works 2-3 in the cold, which is when we want it for being winter 🤦🏼♀️ will keep trying to find solutions, see if we can get a longer battery light, and if I find something I'll pop it on here 💚
My quail are three years old and still laying seasonally when they get enough sunlight. They've never been under artificial lighting, because they're kept as pets and we don't rely on the eggs. I'm under the impression that Quail will be all out of eggs in 2 years if forced to lay all year round. Plus they won't live as long.
Good Info, Thanks for sharing.

Glad it was helpful! Lighting is often the issue, hopefully some extra light hours will get your hens laying!!

@@BethyS13 we run an extension cord from the house and hang white LED Christmas light, if that's an option for you
Love it

Yep, just as chickens - eggs now or eggs later but they still only have a set amount to give in their lifetime
What size leg bands do you use on your coturnix quail please? What age do you put the bands on? Thank you 😊
I have switched to using tiny 4" colored zip ties. I will band them around 4 weeks old
@@AliBell13109 Thank you. 😊
