I love my 60’s plain top in cardinal red! It’s as mean as I feel like, playing Melvin’s riffs and she’s sweet playing blues riffs but now I find myself playing a lot more rock riffs using just a TS808 pushing my Marshall green channel
Man, that second tune, the slower one where you were using the middle potion (and maybe neck). Just amazing!! And sounds amazing too! I’m not into super high gain stuff, but the slightly cleaner, “chimey” stuff you were doing, just sounded so great.
I made a comment on FB that I hate the look of locking tuners and the benefit is questionable other than changing strings. They are STILL hollering at me 5 months later. It’s glorious
The internet is CRAZY hahaha! There’s certainly some tuning stability benefits in regards to less wraps around the posts, thus less slack that can go from the post to the nut. They are convenient from a string change stand point. But they feel different. Little duller. But man if you don’t like them or the look of them. That’s your preference haha! We’re all allowed to have our own preferences… just not on the internet I guess! Cheers -Ryan
@@CrypticmaskguitarHey thanks for the reply! I have a bunch of LPs so I watch every video I can on them. I have a couple 50s but don’t have a 60s although I do have a 2019 Classic which I THINK has that same slimmer neck. Yours has a nice top man and you’re a great player. Subbed.
Great video bro. Got a new subscriber here. I recently bought a 2023 60s standard, the quality, fit n finish, tone and feel was so superb I went ahead and got a 2023 50s standard as well. And it is just as amazing. Gibson has really stepped it up lately. Question for you, I noticed a lot of guys like Joe Bonamassa all string their LPs with the strings AROUND the bridge. Why is that? What is the purpose???? Tuning stability?
The belief is that you can get more sustain by lowering the bridge right to the body while keeping less tension on the strings. I have never been a fan of "Top Wrapping" personally. I like more tension in my strings. Cheers -Ryan
I love my Standard '60s (unburst) - those Burstbucker pickups breathe fire. I prefer the slimmer neck profiles in general, although I don't mind the baseball bats - it's just a different feel. Anyway, thanks for the review - I always enjoy watching other guitar enthusiasts share their passion for the instrument.
Hello , I m about to buy the gibs LP standard, still thinking about the charvel promod dk24.....I know it s a big price difference , what would you do in such situation....honestly I think I l l buy the gibson and then the charvel, .......🤔🤔I also have a fender strat MIM
The tunings are listed in the video and in the description. When I down tune I like the strings a little looser. I find you can dig in more. Cheers -Ryan
Oh nice! Not used to tunings being listed for guitar reviews haha. That’s wild that you’re getting tuning stability with that scale length. I got a Strat (w/a Lace Sensor humbucker) that I play in B standard and drop A, and it’s fine but even with the 25.5” scale length it’s difficult to get it perfectly in tune. Maybe I should use thicker strings
i'm not the grammar police. i do have both LP's and they're night and day when it comes to the neck. strange but true my 50's LP is a bit lighter than the 60's LP yeah the pricing is up there but had to buy 'em. about the locking tuners no i don't think you're crazy i have a prs with the locking tuners installed. you know that brand new string sound you have it seems to have less of that it's weird maybe i'm the crazy one
Why Gibson doesn’t release a modern vintage line is beyond me. Vintage style but locking tuners. A high end TOM and stop bar bridge with locking saddles or just a high end unit designed to modern specs but made to look vintage and original. Do the axcess neck and joint, and then some modern humbuckers able to do more than the occasional coil split. Compound radius, super thin neck, neck through, etc. but the thing is built to look like a vintage instrument, not a modern instrument. Kind of like with the custom shop American Stratocasters. Made to look like a vintage 50-60s strat, but with modern specs.
Because of their past experiences with slight adjustments to modernize their guitars. They’ve always “Dipped their toes” with certain things. The horrible experiment with the Robot Tuners, Ultra weight relief in their higher end guitars, locking tuners on the 2016 line up (I believe that was the year), and of course the Les Paul Modern… which hasn’t really sold too well. The instruments that generally sell well are the Vintage Specification Guitars and the lower end models (because of pricing). So on their end they look at their track record (lots on their end, but also looking at actual demand). There’s not a big point for them. I’m sure there is a desire to modernize but until that sells… there’s no point for them to do that. Might sound stupid, but, it’s reality. They are a brand steeped in history… lots of success and lots of failures. Cheers -Ryan
Awesome video, and somewhat amusing timing! I'm waiting for the new one that showed up today to acclimate along with my girlfriend. Yeah, thanks again internet, thanks again.
Haha! Congrats on the new guitar! I'm currently waiting on a Gibson Les Paul Special (TV Yellow, of course) and a Gibson Blueshawk. 'Tis the season lol! Cheers -Ryan
@@CrypticmaskguitarThanks, I've been waiting a little over 4 months for a Music Man and just couldn't talk myself out of the LP after seeing it. When I asked about a better price, and ultimately received more of a deal than I hoped for, I sort of felt obligated. Sounded better when I reasoned it out, ha!
I've become a master at Self Reasoning haha! It's a good skill to have! Some of the Music Mans have long waits, too! The other guy on the Channel, Kevin, waited almost a year for his Majesty Monarchy. That was also BEFORE the pandemic. Cheers -Ryan
It was decent. I'm in Canada... so the climate is different than "Optimal" for setups. Depending on when a guitar is shipped to the dealer there can be some movement. Lots of companies will just ship their guitars with the neck "Straight"... which generally causes fret buzz around the 1-3 frets (Jackson is the worst for that), but Gibson ships theirs with optimal Relief (Ever so slight back bow). Cheers -Ryan
It works better for me… lots of people hate Gibson and Fender. So titling a video “How Good is” would bring in in more annoying comments than the way it’s titled now. It’s just a title… but it spares me rolling my eyes too often. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitarhahaha... why bother about the title either.. the more important is the answer of that question.. but yeah everybody is entitled to their opinion..
I love it that guitar is a work of art specially if your playing gibson since 89', highly recommended!

hands down best review i have seen
Bourbon Burst, right? I got mine yesterday, it batters my 2016 Standard, wonderful guitar
The Pre-2019 Standards were more akin to the current Classic, but lighter. They did use heavier stock mahogany, though. Cheers -Ryan

I believe It changes the break angle of the strings and makes bending easier, especially with using a thicker gauge.

Good playing, a lot of these videos have good players but sound generic, you have your own style which is cool!
It chugs 🤘🤘

Sounds like you’re in a pretty low tuning. What tuning would that be, and does the 24.75” scale length support it well?

Thicker strings would be a good idea, along with blocking or locking the trem. Cheers -Ryan
Thanks! Great review! What year? Im hunting a used model with same specs. Hand wired, no pcb? Thanks
New regime, 2020. The PCB ones are the pre-2019 weight relived. Cheers -Ryan
@Crypticmaskguitar Thanks. Didn't know. Appreciate the help. Subscribed since I keep ending up on your channel. 🤘
Weird. I usually mention in the specs if they are Handwired or not. I guess I was too tired to remember that part haha! Cheers -Ryan

Imho, it would be more professional to revise your title. "How good is the Gibson Les Paul..." The current phrasing is a bit a ridiculous.
