    I just got my first Gibson Les Paul standard 50’s gold top last week. I am like you man, grew up beyond poor and started playing in 1997 when I was 11 and have worked my hind end off to get to where I am now. I understand the feeling being able to get your hands on things that only felt like a dream when you were younger. Congratulations man!
    I actually just switched over to Gibson altogether, I’ve played Martin and Gretsch for years but now own a vintage Gibson jumbo and then sold my Gretsch Broadkaster and bought the 50’s Gold Top standard.

    Last week I ordered a new Gibson Les Paul Slash Standard in November Burst, I’m not a slash fanboy but I was when I was a kid, plus I got a killer deal on it. I remember playing my first Gibson Les Paul Standard at guitar center in 2008 and dreaming of owning one but thinking I’d never be able to afford it. Tomorrow that dream shows up and 13 year old me from 2008 would be so proud. So I’m sure I’ll have the same reaction when I open that case for the first time! Congrats on a beautiful guitar!!

    I literally bought the same guitar in '20, LP Standard 60s Bourbon burst that was only 5 months old and used so I saved quite a bit of money too. It was totally mint with all the plastic still on it. I don't like the kidney Grovers either so I switched them out for locking gold Gotohs with keystone tips, Gohtoh bridge and tailpeice too. Swapped out the pups for Duncan Pearly Gates and I defy anyone to show me a better playing or sounding guitar.

      I too have a 60s Standard Bourbon burst...but mine is lefthanded. Just like you did, I am about to put on locking tuners. But other than that, it is the perfect guitar in my opinion. I don't have tuning issues with this one like I did with a late 90s LP I used to have and the Tribute I also have right now. Though, I put a String Butler on my Tribute and that pretty much fixed the issue I was having.
      ...Imo, if Gibson put PRS style headstocks (3 on a side with teh strings going straight to pegs with no angle) on their LPs, they would have the ultimate, perfect and unbeatable guitar..

    Congratulations on that beautiful Les Paul. I been playing my two Hendrix Strats since the early 90's and recently decided to try out a Les Paul . I have the limited edition 60's Les paul in Lemon Honey Burst. I was very fortunate to get a great deal on it as well as get a good one right out the box. The flame top with the tiger stripes in it is amazing and the tone is incredible once I put the treble bleeds in it It made a huge difference. I love the cleans and the overdriven tone I get from this guitar. The only thing I don't like is the tuners I would prefer the ones they put on the 50's models but they have different screw alignments on them. I wanted to switch mine but Im ok with these.

  • @mountainpeakcloud8442
    @mountainpeakcloud8442 Год назад +2

    Congratulations on the Les Paul, it's beautiful! I love love Les Pauls, they're my favorite guitar. I like strats, I love my G&L Rampage, but I alway gravitate back to my Les Paul as my main guitar, cause it just has this thick, resonance to it that I just haven't experienced with any other guitar. When I play it, I can feel the guitar resonating so much more than anything else, and I love the thick baseball bat neck on mine, which I'm convinced add to the overall tone and resonance.
    I only have 1 Les Paul... it's a wine red Les Paul standard that I got brand new in 2002 (2001 model) after college as a birthday+Christmas present from my mom, so it has significant sentimental value to me. It was a B stock, cause there were some chips to the paint, but I didn't care, the Les Paul was always the ultimate guitar to me, and the one that always felt out of reach, and to finally get it was like a dream come true... I didn't come from a background where we had the money to shell out for expensive guitars, so I can understand your excitement.
    I hope to one day own a black Les Paul custom. With a family with other needs, I don't have the kind of disposable income to afford a custom at the moment, but maybe on day... However, I'm still so content with my 2001 Les Paul 21 years after getting it, that I could happily play it for the rest of my life.

It literally looks like a brand new guitar with of course the binding aging. Original Tim Shaws and the old Gibson chainsaw case. Couldn’t believe this find. Hang tags and manual still in the case. My point to this is, it’s the only LP I’ve ever purchased because I’m just not a fan and won’t ever be. This guitar was just an investment for me. Plays great and is definitely full sounding. The weight of it is absolutely ridiculous though and you would need back surgery after a full tour with this beast. Congratulations on your new girl Kyle. While almost every high end guitar manufacturer uses synthetic versions at some point, you are certainly getting real MOP when you buy a Custom. As far a pcb electronics, only certain years and models have them. Some may say they are better, but regardless Gibson have gone back to their original, handwired harness formula. I will say their prices though have gone up, so owning a newer, high end model is not for the budget minded guitarist. Plenty of deals on the used market. But regardless, a Custom will cost you.

    The thing about Gibsons is that they are unique.. they all sound different, so its tricky for ppl that are used to superstrats with high output pickups to find a nice tone for metal because Gibsons have that growl and bite that is perfect with low/mid gain amps like Marshalls..if you dial in too much gain it gets muddy and you lose definition... if you listen to guys like Zakk and Sykes they don't really dial in a lot of gain, their tones are really mid gain but they track multiple guitars to have that huge wall of sound.

    • @aureliusandthespiral
      @aureliusandthespiral Год назад +2

      True. But, an eq pedal or a different bridge pu make it easier to personally standardize a 'tone'.
      Personally, I really like the variables and uniqness of Gibson's. You are right on that they are all a bit off from one another.

      “Zakk and Sykes is mid-gain” in what universe?? Zakk usually does the 666 EQ and kicks in a SD-1 with both Drive and Level on 6. That is really gainy. The 2203 is not gainy at all.
      And Sykes’ best tone was in Whitesnake 87 with a Boogie.
      Also this guitar thickness argument is complete BS like most things the guitar community regurgitates

      @@plugnplaybaby have you ever played a JCM800? The amp is not gainy AT ALL. that's why he kicks in the SD-1 with the drive at 2 o clock, it does not give him a heavy metal tone, it gives his tone more body... just listen to the isolate tracks of no more tears on youtube and tell me if that is high gain.. In regards of Sykes, he tracks multiple guitars, always has.. he even had issues with producers in the Whitesnake's 87 album because of that.. there's multiple videos about that on youtube, don't be lazy and look it up.

    Another great vid man ty. It's interesting hearing your thoughts on tone vs. Glenn Fricker who has made some strong cases that at high gain the pickups and guitar don't make a huge difference in tone. Feel is something totally different and I love the way my les Paul studio plays and feels but tone wise in a mix it makes me think differently. Have to try out my own experiments like Glenn. How do you feel about Glenn's most recent tests on pickups and guitars at high gain impacting tone? Ps big congrats on the find that's a beautiful guitar.

    Hi Kyle! Great video!. I have a Gibson LP Standard 2010 (chambered) with BBPs and a Mesa Dual Rec. I've always found BBPs too bright and don't play well with high gain amps. Do you think the Seymour duncan JB would be a better option for a guitar with these characteristics?

    • @steves12strings
      @steves12strings Год назад

      Raise the bridge p/u a little and bring the tone down around 5-7. If that doesn't do it, JB all day. 59/Custom is another favorite for a darker/fatter tone with better dynamics.

    I went a very different route, I fell in love with a Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid C-8 ultra violet and I am definitely not an 8 strings aficionado, but I just connected to it big time on first chord and it's just to die for visually, for some reason it plays like butter unlike any other 8 strings I played, hell, even some 7 strings I have played have a neck that is harder to play. Happy for you bro! First rule of guitar shopping, never play a guitar you can't afford, unless you like to torture yourself or want to end up with financial problems.

    I love that feeling of opening a new Les Paul! I felt that joy on December 28th, 2022. It was the perfect guitar.
    Fast forward to February 20th, that beautiful guitar now has finish checking around almost every fret marker. I have quite a few Gibsons, all kept in the same room. I have a Geist monitor in my music room that will text me in any humidity changes outside of certain parameters. My guitar has never left the house.
    (Edit: before someone says it, no I don’t use hand sanitizer before I play guitar 😂)
    Honestly, I love Gibson. I love the way they age. But the premature aging of a guitar that left Gibsons factory on the last day of November 2022 just feels indicative of poor quality lacquer.
    Honestly I’m gonna see what Gibson will do but I doubt the outcome will be favorable for me.
    There’s my Les Paul rant. 😂

    I own an explorer, Flying V and a SG…these are the best feeling and playing guitars I own. But they do have QC issues that are more cosmetic and not disrupting playability. The explorer is from 2005 and the nut looks like a 5 year old placed it on the guitar. Feels amazing, plays amazing, sounds amazing, sits in the body so nicely yet a 5 year old put the nut on. When looking at the body there anyone can clearly see this is not a solid piece of wood, run your hand down the tail sections and you’ll how the guitar was not properly sanded. I bought the guitar on reverb and I couldn’t see every detail which is my fault but the thing plays so well, I don’t regret it. I’m in the market looking for my first Les Paul but haven’t seen or played one that really spoke to me yet. Thanks for sharing your experience dude.

    Wow that's one good looking guitar. Sounds amazing too. Best tone was through the Marshall, but I also liked it on the 5150.
    I have a Standard 60 too, but running it with a EVH Iconic and a Marshall, and not really into that drop tuned metal or very modern stuff. I'm more into 80s metal, thrash and punk, so i can get reaaally good tones with the Iconic and Marshall plus a couple pedals (Revv G2, SD1 and MXR Badass Distortion). Also, you gotta adjust the pickups to dial in your tone. Especially if you're planning on very "niche" metal and high gain, as opposed to typical classic rock.

    Les Paul’s are classic. All of the classic designs: 335, strat, tele, sg, lp, etc. are still around for a reason.
    I’ve realized that I prefer more modern-feeling guitars, but they’re almost all based on these classic designs.

    I've had 40+ Gibson Les Paul's over my 38 year music career. The only one I've kept and still play daily is a 1977 Pro Deluxe with the ebony board and originally came with p90's. When I got it, it was routed for humbuckers, very professionally, looked factory. I preferred that over the p90's, and it was not a collector item so I got it very cheap. Turns out the neck shape and big ass original frets are a shredder's dream. The only drawback is the weight. 11.4 lbs. As long as I use a big ass 4 inch wide strap I don't notice it much.

    I bought a AAA top 50s Burbon Burst Gibson Les Paul Standard. The guitar is a high quality build and plays like butter. I'm a Fender and Gibson player but lately the Fenders have been resting on their stands because I can't put the Les Paul down because it's so easy to play. I also bought a black cherry 61 SG that I love to play a lot but the Les Paul is my main go to Gibson. Although she hasn't said anything but I think the girlfriend is jealous about all the time my guitars are in my hands.

    I absolutely love Gibson Les Pauls, and yes I’ve been totally entranced by their flame top beauty since I first actually payed attention to the guitars that my guitar heroes wielded. My very first guitar heroes were Ace Frehley, Tony Iommi and Gary Rossington, I started learning how to play on a sears clearance store Les Paul copy but at that point I really didn’t care and was happy learning how to play Electric Funeral,Deuce, Sweet Home Alabama and other songs. That’s how I started. I have loved and still love Gibson Les Pauls from day one and doubt I will ever get
    Tired of them. Right now I have a Gibson Les Paul Slash Appetite Amber, that’s it for LPs right now although I I have my sights set on a Wildwood Select 60s. I do own a 2017 Gibson Explorer Antique Natural and the very first Fender I ever bought, a 2020 Fender American Professional Telecaster natural. and a couple of nice Acoustics. As far as I’m concerned Gibson is great and the very good return policy from the stores we shop makes it a minimal chance of getting stuck with a less than awesome guitar that we are ecstatic about and that’s the way it should be considering we pay 2500 US and up for these sonic and beautifully crafted works of art.
    That is a gorgeous axe Brother 🤘😎

    Beautiful top for a Gibson USA guitar. I’ve always been a Fender player most of my life and got hooked on Gibsons about a year ago. I went with a 50s standard. Very good guitar, but I did change the tuners. One kept intermittently slipping. Try the Kluson Revolution locking tuners if you like that look better. They are much better than the stock tuners.
    But congrats. My next Gibson is going to be a Custom Shop 61 SG VOS… it’ll also be my first ever custom shop guitar. Wish me luck in my hunt!

They are light they sound great they are 25 and a half inch scale and yes I do use nines on them which sound great in my opinion.
