It's nice to note that the drummer found some sticks during the solo but decided to let the bassist have it. Seems like the drummer might be a new bass fan!
Charles is obviously a world-class musician but I want to take a moment to point out that in addition the composition and editing in all his videos is always excellent. I'd love to see a video where he walks us through how he designs, shoots and edits one of these!
As a drummer, I have had sticks basically explode under heavy playing. I've lost count of the number of times a stick broke and the other half of it recoiled off a drum and just went flying 😂😂😂
I’m a bassist and I was playing with my band and my drummer was having trouble so our music teacher started playing the drums. He plays really loud and ended up snapping the stick. He went in the back and got new ones but it was pretty funny.
I was playing a gig in a real dive, about 25 people there, and the drummer who does bash those skins broke his stick, and it flew up and stuck the guitar player in the neck! He finished his guitar solo with blood running down his chest and a stick hanging out of his neck! He wasn’t very happy about it, but the crowd went wild!
When Charles does a solo on his bass, it's not a real solo. It's in fact a duo of both his hands (that sometimes have their own solo, intertwining with each other). Those next level "solo" should be known as _Soluo._
Bass solos _are_ a mistake 99% of the time because they break the performance - stuff has to lay out of the way of the bass's round and mellow sound so as to not drown it, and usually have a hard time going under a bass since the solo won't be that high. As a result, the music usually just stops dead in its tracks. And on top of that the solo is (like a large chunk of solos on other instruments as well) going to be someone masturbating on the fretboard and farting out notes as fast as they can. May excite some, but almost always leaves me cold. Charles' piece here works because the solo is not wankery (mostly), but mostly just a tasty groove that plays to the bass' strengths and not to the player's need to show off. The brief note-spamming moments are by far the weakest ones.
You really do something unique- I was laughing by the time the drummer’s sticks exploded. Then you pivot straight into the kind of music that relaxes and energizes simultaneously- it was a relaxing sound and vibe, yet you throw all of these virtuosic moments in that keep to the beat so comfortably that it creates energy and joy for the listener. And, wouldn’t you know it, right at the end you throw in a hilarious parody of guitar solos, with the extra touch coming from that organ’s single drone to back it up. Thank you for the wonderful, creative, joy filled content!
Thats the reason I love drum and bass solos; they are so rare that when they happen they are so good. "My sticks just exploded." Well, they could just break, so kinda right?
what? he deserves all the views every guitarist combined and doubled who of the soprano_guitar players put this much effort to be this good as Charles? 99.99999999% of them nether ever be near, lazy attention seekers
That guitarist showed some really impressive ability to ride with the bassist's solo idea no matter where it went, without skipping a note. Hooray guitarists.
Another classic! Quick question, have you ever had to do a session or a gig where you did have to play very straight and simple while some narcissistic guitar player hogged all the glory ? I mean, we all have had to do gigs to pay the bills sometimes that we wish we didn't have to.
This really takes your mind to a better place! So much that I had a “holy crap! Where’s my phone?!? I lost my phone!!” moment as I patted my pockets before I realized I was staring right at it
That guitar solo was perfect. I remember playing in a garage band (practicing in an actual garage) when I was in high school. I would always leave with a headache.
I’ll be honest Charles, the videos where you mix your intoxicating humour along with the awesomeness of your bass-playing are the ones I enjoy and laugh during the most! These skits are pure gems, I especially remember the Jazz and Beethoven ones very fondly 🤣👌🙌, keep up the great work mate!
That was one of the best soloes I have heard. So melodic and musical with focus on sounding good to the listener and not just showing off how fast you can play. Thanks.
Man, when I saw the title of the video I was like! "OH, it is a spiritual successor to my favorite skit from early in the channel's' story"... I didn't expected such an amazing music to come out of it!
If I made a band I would dedicate at least 5 of my songs to the bass and I would just make the guitar make the bass sound better by backing it up a little bit. switching the roles.
Holy crap, bass is like a real instrument!
Who knew?
You are taking it too far. Don't give the bassists any ideas.
You sure?
As a bassist, I am shocked.
This guy has more technical ability than 3 or 4 hair metal bands.
Or 30 to 40 grunge bands.
It's nice to note that the drummer found some sticks during the solo but decided to let the bassist have it. Seems like the drummer might be a new bass fan!
bass & drummer friendship foreva ❤
We drummers need to be kind to our bass playing brethren 😉
Love drummers, most underrated band members other than bass. They are always so chill too.
@@drydryb0nesshorts I play bass also, so I try to ensure all bass players and drummers have strong bonds 😁

😂😂😂 “my sticks just exploded”. Excellent
I hate when that happens…😂
Honestly out of that, guitar running out of batteries and keyboard struck by lightning, drumsticks exploded is the one that actually happens.
Bro is using tnt sticks for the drums
Charles we need an album of all these songs man😭
I'm working on it!!
maybe a europe tour after that too! like bernth, im going to see him live in october IM SO EXCITED
@@CharlesBerthoud Don't change the format! They're nice little tunes to listen to without thinking. No need to turn them into 5min+ epics.
@@CharlesBerthoud🥳
@@CharlesBerthoudHonestly one of my favourite bassists, you don’t sound like anyone
Man, a solo so powerful that the instruments fixed themself just to play along
This is the power of *bass*
"But anyways..." Love it Charles. Combining music and comedy in less than Bass-ic ways. Keep it up
Charles is obviously a world-class musician but I want to take a moment to point out that in addition the composition and editing in all his videos is always excellent. I'd love to see a video where he walks us through how he designs, shoots and edits one of these!
Same here!
Nah, I want to believe it's magic.
Yeah... but he is poor at casting actors. All look kinda the same
An not forgot about the ideas of what to do , the clothing and the speeches he finds out :)
sound quality and mix is money too. brother is a gem. and if it weren't for youtube we might have missed out on all this
As a drummer, I have had sticks basically explode under heavy playing. I've lost count of the number of times a stick broke and the other half of it recoiled off a drum and just went flying 😂😂😂
At least it was just your stick! RIP Stumpy Joe.
As a keyboardist, i had keyboards basically struck by lightning while playing Ride The Lightning songs
As a bassist, I had basses with notes so low, it sunk under the stage and had to detune an excavator to find it.

If I'd known that playing bass could sound like this when I was younger I may very well have taken it up. You're a living credit to the instrument!
Don't let it stop you now man. I picked up bass late man. I expect I will never be anywhere near Charle's level, but I enjoy what I do.
i picked it up at 23, go for it & don't look back
I started at 30, 9 months later I'm almost 31 and I'm in a metal band playing shows. It can happen, it's genuinely never too late
I’m 16 when I first wanted to try it, I’m 20 now and planning to buy one while I’m practicing bass on an acoustic guitar xD
This composition should be named "Just The Bass Of Us"
This has such a Streets of rage feel to it
Damn this was SICK. Your chord progressions are always so friggin tasteful!
Thanks!!

Feels a bit gospelish ;-)
It's so true.
Love it when you play smooth jazz.
1:21 to 1:26 putting out some strong Just the Two of Us vibes.
Guitar solo 57 is my new ringtone.
Come at me.
I could hear this song literally for hours.

I have been a bassist for 20 years and I never thought of a bass as a solo instrument. And then Charles came along and changed everything. 😀

This deserves to be on trending
i know its not a bass but i LOVE that Schecter KM7 Hybrid!!
1st Pop/rock bass "solo": John Entwistle in My Generation by the Who.

2:37 The bass solo was so good that his drum sticks actually reintegrated! 😜
The drummer face is OP though 😏😲😮
When the guitar kicked in the rest of the song just sounded like a straightup casiopea song, love it
i was there ! historical moment
Ahhh I remember when all the instruments completely got destroyed by chance and the bass had to take up the wings. It was fate indeed! Cheers man
I love the crazy guitar solo at the end! That cracked me up!!
Me too. 😂 I just bursted out laughing at the appreciation: "...but anyways..." Hahaha!
This is not just a bass solo, it's an actual well-thought-out composition.
europe tour when i need to see you live, im gonna see bernth live soon im SO EXCITED
I love that he has a solo section in the middle of his solo
This bass solo is ridiculously good. One of your best

I heard Jamiroquai and Stevie Wonder. I'm going to listen a couple 5 more times. Excellent!

Groovy.
That was no bass solo that was a beautiful piece of music! You make the bass sound like a symphony!

It was illegal how funky that was.

I would love to hear an actual song like this, if you'd be willing I love the combo with the guitar and bass at 1:30
The 7string shreddy playing a complementary guitar parts that supports the soloist is pure science fiction! Lol 😂

This solo has mad OS Weather Channel vibes and I'm all here for it.
You make it look So damn easy ..
this sounds like the background music for a Japanese game about teens solving a mystery, but also you have to go school and stuff…

Excellent !
When the video is 3 minutes 15 seconds but you enjoy the groove so much it feels like 3 hours 15 minutes.
I've never heard a guitar accompany a bass, but that was beautiful.
Now I have to learn this song… so nice… awesome Charles
Uh...it was also nice for the additional accompanying bass track to magically appear too!...😊...Very entertaining! Thank you!
Amazing .. I can sense the "Just the two of us" vibe on this jam!

basically the same chord progression between 1:21 and 1:27

what is remarkable is that it seems you can play the guitar and drums well too!
Charles you have the Chopin touch. Just like everything Midas touched turned to gold, everything you and Chopin touch turns into amazing music. 🤩
Neat, at first I thought it was sounding like "Just the Two of Us", but then it really took off.
