Nice vide, this guy is great. The way uses ghost notes reminds of another bass play from Argentinian. He's on youtube . His name is Nicolás Page and he also
does this type ghost note with a very percussive unique down slap-flamenco pull off technique. (you have to use that accent on the á of his name Nicolás. To find it. )
Check out this title by him
      "Dos bajos armonizados."
      and also
"Solo sobre la armonía de Hello Young Lovers de Hammerstein"
^^^ This second one, the jazz standard is done funky yet very melodic also
You probably know of the bassist Remco. I would love to hear you do a duet with him or Nicolás Page

Hey Charles this video was so good. To say I enjoyed this is an understatement. Thank you for exposing Vincen to the bass community. He is so unbelievably talented. I really enjoyed how you broke down the song and explained the parts so thorough and so good. My favorite part of the video was when you played the part slowed down. You still played it so funky and in the pocket, you made it musical even though it was slower (a lot of people when playing slow treat it as checking a box). This is also a testament to Vincen's compositional skills, no matter what tempo it is that line and song are still freaking fantastic.

The 'Displacement' of 16th notes in the beginning, is what drummers call a 'Triolization of Sixteenths', where instead of hitting just of every 3 notes in a 16-note bar, u hit 2 notes, you can play around with this in many ways, drummers use this to 'kick the bass players/bandmembers ass' when needing some more dynamics (at least i used to :D ). I'm sure you know all of this, but it would be nice if you could/is able to unpack or elaborate more on these details, cuz there a lots of goodies for bassists to 'borrow' or steal from drummers here! :D
Nice Breakdown or mini-analysis, Vincent is a beast! Fantastic to be re-invigorated and inspired! :D Gonna see Greg Howe, Mohini Dey and Mario Cirigliano in Malmø next month, for some KickAss inspirations, I'm sure! Keep up the good work, Mr. Berthoud! :)

Wow Charles, that was completely insane. Both the breakdown and your playing just blew me away. Yes, of course you should do more video's like this. Just imagining what you both could do on a 5 or 6 string bass. Whoa

I know the focus here is on the bass guy, but as a musician, being able to hear about Matteo Mancuso, even for a moment, on a bass channel, is so satisfying. No, I am not a guitar player, but the ones who watched at least 3 videos of Matteo understand the reason Steve Vai called him "the evolution of guitar" and noticing that sometimes real talent takes you places is reassuring. Just like Mr Berthoud, here. Allas, I'd love to see some collab between you two.

My favorite !!! Thank you so much for giving him this great publicity, it is to your credit and above all what work you have done to appropriate this groove which will be legendary if it is not already! Have you heard “Get up funkier” by him? at 2mn14 he starts in thunderous harmony !!!

What a great video!!! For me it'll be even better if you go deeper into the theory of pieces. It is obvious that you'r an elite bassist, but your not credited enough for being an elite content maker. Hurray Charles!

Vincent is a bass entity, never seen someone so smooth and lock in with the rhythm , like Jaco on speed but melodically stunning.

I don't know why more bassists don't play Yamaha basses. Even the midline models are quality controlled as well as their top customs. It's a uniform measure that the company has always used to assure that they are ALWAYS competitive no matter what the item.

That bass is possessed. Just listen to the number of Ghost Notes than he is summoning.
I could play that if I had a day of two to watch and play around with it.
The right hand is doing all of tge great stuff. Quick fingers.
    AWESOME
