    I also bought a 2012 CR-V with low mileage and swapped with my daughter. What a difference between previous generation. The 07: is a crapbox. Tons of maintenance and drives crappy. Good in snow though. The 2012 never breaks

    My 07 had perfect rear differential fluid changes at Honda dealerships by first owner. I bought for my daughter and am the second owner and a cert mechanic. I wanted to play safe so changed per service bulletin anyway. 2k miles later no warning signs at all. Just today wobbly and crap load of shavings. I'm bewildered. Did the dealership really do the work?

    • @theoffroadingmechanic
      @theoffroadingmechanic  10 месяцев назад

      The 07 rear diff is all mechanical there's no electrical components that control it so no warning will show on the dash the drive shafts will spin and the fluid coupling will engage the differential. So that fluid is important in operation of that rear diff. I think 2012 is when they changed it, adding a pump pressure sensor etc to operate that rear diff and to monitor it.

    I wanted to know more about the type of differential noise mine I can hear it when I make U-turns. But not going in reverse?

    • @theoffroadingmechanic
      @theoffroadingmechanic  Год назад

      Your spider gears, ring and pinion gear have a drive side which is the side used most in the forward position and than there is the coast side which the gear only contacts when in reverse or not usually see much wear but is not as strong in reverse under heavy loads.

    How often are Toyota tundras rear diff fluid supposed to be changed? I got this truck at 80k and no car fax record of it being done

    • @theoffroadingmechanic
      @theoffroadingmechanic  2 года назад +2

      If you dont know when it is done I would just change it. My coworker just got an 80 series landcruiser and changed all his fluid. Both front and rear diff were very milky. I also went through my owners manual and it doesn't say any intervals. And looking online everyone says different things. At our shop we re gear diff and recommend doing the first change at 24k kms. I did mine at 24k and I was glad I did. Going to see what it looks like in the next drain and fill. I also had water go up to my doors a few time doing some water crossing so maybe going to do it soon.

    What's your take on Honda's "use only our special automatic transmission fluid or else," fact or fiction?
    Trying to track down a harsh engagement only in Reverse on my parents 02 Accord, 132k miles and they had a quick lube place drain and fill it with "universal" ATF at 80k. It's the family car so it doesn't get a lot of love.

      I have only used OEM fluid since I get on staff. Possibly check for bad engine mounts if it's banging into gear from drive to reverse.

      @@theoffroadingmechanic as one of those ex quick lube guys. if the fluid specs weren't right we didn't use it, that being said some places just don't give a fuck and will drain and refill with the same fluid lmao.

    I have a 2010 CRV and it seems I lost all power to the rear wheels. My mechanic said the differential is broken so I sources a used replacements in seemingly good conditions and he's gonna put it in. This seems kinda overkill to me is there anything else to be done?

    Ive been hearing some clunking noise when i turn and reverse turn . I changed all the mounts including the rear differential mount stiil having the issue i changed the differential fluid still hearing the issue . I see that alot of people are having the same problems and they go to the honda dealer and just replace the fluid again and still doing the noise . Anyone knows what can i be the problem? I have a 2007 honda crv ex awd

      When you grab your inner CV axle going in to the diff is there a lot of slopp? But if it's a noise you can always replicate then should be no problem find the source of the noises I use a tool called chassis ear it is great in finding noise so your not guessing what or where that noise is coming from.

      Then you get the customers that only do oil changes but decline other stuff. Had one that declined diff service multiple times and never got it done. 180k kms later came in on a flat bed with a grenaded diff. I still have a picture of it.😆 Paid for a new diff and did all the other services.
