      Noup, drived with this kit about 500km, worked fine in normal use, and the rear diff is in use right now in basic crv . I have about double the power that the crv visco is made for, so it warms too much in hard use, like 0-100. I now have the freelander vc.

    Thank you for this excellent video bro ! Just bought crv 2009 and drove it back home on the motorway with no issues at all. However.... Next day took it down town shopping and its jittering when i was fully turning right or left outside around the shopping centre car park. I have immediately bought a gear /diff oil and replaced the old that was super dirty. Unfortunately this didn't sort the issue and although its little better than before the jitter and noise are still there . Does my diff has this upgrade already and do you think i can fix it somehow or is the diff shot ? Thank you my man !!

    • @FamspecPerformance

      The upgrade doesnt make it skip. If you are in an area of extreme weather its possible the diff is just shot or has been run for a long period of time with the wrong or low fluid.

    First of all thank you for your videos and "technical reference" on your website. I'm still gathering info for my AWD k24 turbo crx build. So it would be awesome if you could help me out before I order this kit. I've bought a 2009 "GR15" stamped CRV differential. I can use this kit and not use a freelander VC, but you would recommend a rear LSD, right? But is it also possible to use this diff, your kit, and also a freelander VC? Or would that be straight stupid... ?
    I can go both ways... I have no idea what the best route is... I'm aiming for 400-500hp.

    46:18 - the kits come with new ones because ball bearings are inexpensive and it makes the kit look more complete. Badly worn diffs might actually need them, too? It's an easy swap though, which also plays into it, no doubt.

      Not all 2005 CRV's have ramp up diffs. The ones that have 2004 MFG dates are like 20% ramp and the ones that are after 2005 are like 80% its kind of a weird thing...

    • @FamspecPerformance
      @FamspecPerformance  Год назад +2

      Yes, however, you are going to want a limited slip in the back to make use of the power when it is applied. Freelander VC are always recommended but then you talk to someone who has run one and replaced it six times and they will say not too. For my higher HP setups I am going with the Gear X viscous coupler along with a gear X lsd

    I just purchased my first CR-V, a month ago, an '05 built in April. Would it have the ramp-up style rear diff?
    You did a great job on this video, making a fairly tedious and complex tear down, look manageable. Thank you. It's basically a little automatic transmission, so a few terms from the automatic transmission, as well as the motorcycle clutch word: The metal clutch plates are referred to as "Steels" and the clutch plates with friction material are referred to as "Frictions." In the automatic trans world, we make automatics "stronger" by making the steels thinner, so that more steels and frictions can be added. The little thermostatic goodie is called a "Waxstat" and Honda uses them to open the choke plate on lawn mower carburetors. Funny to see one used in this assembly, especially with their ability to fail. Does that Waxstat open a port, bleed off pressure, and therefore disengage the rear diff if it gets too hot?
    Typically an automatic clutch pack has a certain amount of play when cold, so that once the trans fluid is at operating temp, and especially once things get hot, the clutch pack isn't held engaged. So it seems like your kit is holding that assembly in an engaged state at all times since the frictions aren't free to spin inside the steels when no hydraulic pressure is being applied. But I'm a total noob to these cars, not to mention this strange AWD system, so I have no idea.
    It will be interesting to take this car skiing and see how the AWD system feels. My only AWD reference point is a '95 Audi A6 Quattro Avant, which was the last year of Audi's truly mechanical AWD system, with a switch in the console to lock up the rear at speeds below 25mph.

    What’s up man? I bought this kit and installed it on an 08 differential and now I’m getting a vibration in the rear. I replace both axles with brand new ones. I change the fluid twice already. It’s still getting a vibration. I took my driveshaft off to see if that was the issue an it didn’t change the anything Maybe I did something on reassembly that I need to take apart again. You’re a poop would be much appreciated.
    P.s. I did purchase the rear differential from a junkyard.

    • @FamspecPerformance
      @FamspecPerformance  Год назад

      VIbration would be from the diff itself. If you installed the kit wrong it would make noise or the nose would not go on correctly. You also need to realize these are old vehicles and it could be something like a driveshaft joint or the center bearing or any number of things. What does You're a poop mean and why would you appreciate it? Email me for further questions.

      For what? drag racing? Serious off roading? you also need a viscous coupler to do so and a modified driveshaft to accommodate deleting the clutches. If you pin/delete the clutches you run a good chance of snapping the stub off the clutch basket. You can get a whole replacement unit from GearX but its also $2500.
