Great looking rig! We don’t have the Patrol here in the US. It honestly looks a lot like my XJ. I love that it’s an older cheaper rig that is getting you where you want to go. So many people in the States think they need to spend $50,000 on a rig and then another $10,000 in accessories to go off the pavement here. I am definitely more of a built not bought girl. Just my opinion. I enjoy modifying my rig myself as much as I do taking off road. Glad I found your channel. ❤️🐞
Thanks for the comment chick! Yes it’s defiantly the new norm to cash up on an expensive vehicle and hit it with expensive accessories. It’s a shame I feel, it makes it too easy for people and you loose the essence of what wheeling & camping is all about! I sympathise with your opinion totally!
Mate couldn’t agree more it’s not about the $100,000 truck it’s about getting out to see the sights and build memories and experiences...theirs definitely way to many jacked up rigs with the typical kings gear winch and snorkel that don’t even get driven up a dirt road..keep it simple and just go try and get lost on an adventure with family and friends
Westralian Offroad mate only discovered your channel earlier today absolutely lovin it..just chillin now watching your trip to Denmark WA 🤟 defo planning a trip over there from QLD
Sveno Mick that’s awesome man, glad you got something out of it. Stay tuned. At a later date I’ll be doing a camp set up run through, 12v system and what not!
I’ve had the TD now for a year and the money I’m saving in maintenance and peace of mind for reliability is priceless. I do understand your sentiment though mate. Thanks for the comment.
Lovely vid. Hope you make a lot more! Exactly the type of content I love to watch. I have a GU and love it to bits. Got lots of bit and pieces as well. Just a bloody mess to organise the back eh? Definitely need drawers of some kind and a roof rack. I was wondering what make etc you have on yours? Is it steel or alloy? Cheers. Paul
Thanks mate, I appreciate that! Keep an eye on the channel - I’ve just got myself a GU so some of the content coming may interest you. Draws change everything, all of a sudden you just have somewhere for everything, can rate draws highly enough for any camping setup! I have a steel roof rack, it’s an older Overlander model. Does the job just fine. Good bang for buck ones are just the steel item from Supercenter even.
@@westralianoffroad Got yourself a GU as well! Great. Is it diesel? Mine runs nicely now (2004 with ZD30 motor). Had inlet manifold professionally cleaned - very clogged up. Also have a catch can and Dawes valve installed. I suppose I have been hanging out to buy the "best quality" rack and was aiming for an alloy job like Tracklander or Tradesman but there's always another big bill to pay! I totally agree with you about the drawers. I've had my GU for a couple of years now and been up to Exmouth and down south a few times. Rummaging around the mess in the back of the car is a nightmare after a couple of days. Was eyeing up the Drifta drawers. But recently been thinking about just putting in a false floor made out of Bunnings plywood and just getting a fridge slide for the Engel screwed onto it.Might have a rethink about the racks after what you say. I'll most definitely keep watching your channel as we have similar interests to you. Just exploring and being out in the bush, enjoying the environment and wildlife.Cheers and thanks for the reply. Paul.
Hey mat just wanna ask is that just the stock 4.2L petrol? I just picked up a patrol GQ with the same engine and everyone reckons there not that good? But mine is great I think
Richo Man dead stock mate! Apart from an exhaust it’s stock as they come. A lot of people do talk down at them unfortunately, but they are a good strong engine! Like anything, you treat them well, keep them maintained and they will look after you.
@@westralianoffroad I can understand that. I love my 80, but I look at newer vehicles all the time thinking about how much I would feel more secure on longer trips. If I'm 3 hours from the house and I need to do some bush mechanic work, no big deal. But if I'm 2 days from home and I have something break on me, that's a different story.
coverts 44 a good start is to try and avoid one that has/is been on LPG mate. They don’t really like LPG, even though so many had it installed. And try if possible to grab an EFI model. I know you mention base model, but the EFI models are quite cheap these days, with power windows, electric mirrors ect. The EFI is far better for reliability, economy and drivability. Other than that, just your usual things you would want to keep an eye out for purchasing any secondhand vehicle.
@@westralianoffroad well unfortunately i couldn't any efi models here(i live in indonesia btw), only carby models were available here. So the question is, are tb42s with carburetor reliable?? (sorry for bothering you with my questions)
Loved my trusty reliable GQ had it 14 years & I still miss it now I have a GU TD42TI 2003 model I love it to but I hated my 80 series unreliable piece of shit fuck Toyota

Been rocking an RD28TD from 1996 - So far its been a rather capable beast. Granted i'm in the sand most of the time. This rig looks sweet!
Sick rig!! Defiantly taking some inspo from this for my GQ
Kit Walker fantastic man that’s what it’s all about! Thanks for the comment 🤙🏻
That was a good walk through Matt. Cheap, reliable & DIY. Pretty much my mantra. Thanks for the closer look at your rig.
Maverick Offroad thanks mate. Hopefully some will get something out of it. Thanks for watching and the comment! 🤙🏻
Good words matt! Simplicity is key and not alot of people see that.
Great car man nothing wrong with the petrols!
Perry Harrison very true mate! Thanks!
Great walk through Matt, lov seeing other people’s rigs, mainly the rear cargo set up, cheers 👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺
Awesome patrol mate. Nice to see plenty still getting out there
Going Overland bloody oath man. They are a national treasure these days. Couldn’t have anything else!
Nice video mate
Great to see the the old rig!
Love your patrol. Great video and presentation. Better than any Toyota. Keep producing more videos.
Great video man. Cheers
Rob Howe thanks mate!
Good video bro ,, ATM I'm looking at the exact same thing ,, and I was wondering about the petrol ,, but yeah ,, think ya talked me into it ,,👊

It’s a beautiful part of the country that’s for sure! See ya when you get here 😁
Westralian Offroad mate throw those beers on ice see ya soon haha 👍
I have a TB 42 auto GQ just what I was after good video
Sveno Mick that’s awesome man, glad you got something out of it. Stay tuned. At a later date I’ll be doing a camp set up run through, 12v system and what not!
Nice GQ! Nothing wrong with the petty. What you can save on purchase price puts a lot of fuel in
Nice setup
Why would you get a td if you can get a tb for half the price with more power that does the same stuff and is cheaper to fix
I’ve had the TD now for a year and the money I’m saving in maintenance and peace of mind for reliability is priceless. I do understand your sentiment though mate.
Thanks for the comment.
Nothing wrong with a tb42 hard to kill I got an old carby and I’m pretty rough on the old girl and she hasn’t let me down yet
Bullbar looks the same as mine on my 1990 GQ, an ARB
i had a tb42 really neat one as well and it outshowed alot of built rigs for a 5 grand car , but i was averaging 23 L per 100 >.

They deliver more power then td 4.2 and are under half the price and cheaper to fix, can’t go wrong with em
Nice Rig dude...got a link to that guy in WA on those ACCESSORIES?
Tony Alba you can find him by searching Grab Me Gear on all social platforms mate. Won’t be disappointed.
Nice video! hat happened to this rig?
I moved it on mate. Bit over a year ago now. I was having maintenance issues and rust. So I bought the Patrol I have now!

Looks like a ARB bar
Beev Green could very well be mate.
👍👍
Callum Davies 🤙🏻
Mate i drive a 96 1hz 80s cruiser what ever gets you out bush mate
James bushy man you’re telling me. Way too much emphasis on what the truck is rather than where ya going these days! Up the old NA diesel 😁
I'm looking for a 1992 gq y60 (base model) with 4.2 petrol. What should i look out for?

mic andrew absolutely mate! Commonly over looked fact by many.
So FuckinG Incredible
Got mine to 155 kmh
Rb30 patrol is faster than tb42 but tb42 tows better
