Been really enjoying your channel. Really love the flex your getting. Watching you drive through lines and the coils doing their job, and body staying nice and flat. Would be really interested to know what shocks and spring rates you settled on in the end. Great content on your channel anyway keep it up 👌💯
Thanks so much mate! Appreciate the kind words. The setup to date is 3” coils and 7” shocks (about 13” travel) with hyperflex front arms, superior rear long arms, front hydros, rear rubber bumps all set to suit shock lengths, coil retention all round and extended brake lines 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Best channel going around atm. Just watched all episodes of the chop. Keep up the great work 💯👍👌. Got me wanting to chop the GU. Great knowledge out of it
When i catch up on your videos definitely makes me want to get the shorty back on the road and do some more tracks around Tassie than just the north west
It was starting to give be the shits with the double cardan joint stuffing up in it shorty patrol with 7 inch lift drives awesome just the angle stuffs the joint needs a land Rover 6x6 one in it or all new suspension and dropping to 2 or 3 with the 36s

If you want a bit more efficiency and don’t mind spending a bit extra, I’d look at a 16g or GTurbo Green Wheel with a HT18 rear housing, so that factory exhausts still fit. Love it mate!👍🏼👏🏼 Anyone can go out and blow $100k and get it done in a shop in one bang, but you did it step by step and truly evolved this thing into a beast. A true work of art mate, made by you! Thanks for sharing! One question I’ve always had - why do these GQ’s blow so much coal? I love it…and the sound. 👏🏼 I wish my diesel could do that. Is it a high output fuel pump that does that?
Thanks so much mate, I mean I don’t think it’s horrible to go blow $100k and do it all at once if you have the money and it’s what you want to do, it’s more so feeling like you HAVE to, to be able to get out there, it’s just not true, this car did everything it ever needed to 100 mods ago haha, everything since then is just cause I wanted to. 😂 Mine blew coal while I had the fuel cranked up, yeah. It doesn’t now though I’ve tuned it right right back in order to look after the new engine 🙏🏻

YES timmy! I am currently going through a similar build path on my 93gq wagon. Fairly unmodified right now and just driving it. Diff clearance is a big thing on these cars ive found, its the only issue ive had so far. Looking at 33s, but if you got 35s under with some cutting i would love to know your recipe. Dont think i would cut it half though, but my roof is 3 corners bog so it may happen.
Haha yeah I just hacked away at the guards, I was pretty noob back then, but there is a lot to be said for changing control arms so that your wheel can be pushed back away from guards and therefore less cutting required but if you’ve got bog in it from rust then get cutting I say 😇
trying to get the wife her licence, at which point we might be getting a little echo from her grandmother. if that happens, what 12 inch grinder do you recommend?
Would love to know the story behind the e lockers mate, i have one in my gu zd30 and cant fault it or havent broken it yet. curious you went back to air.
Yeah look a lot of people say the same thing about TD42’s or even the ZD30.. I know people that walk around and say the same thing about both, “my ZD has been great for me” while others have blown up 4 and call them grenades. Some things work for some people, some things don’t.. all I know is when I had ELockers, they nearly never worked, despite troubleshooting, having 12v at the diff, rewiring, rebuilding several times, and airlockers work every time. I can’t keep just uploading videos of me sitting in front of my car telling stories haha, but maybe in the future at some point I’ll dive into them. The lockers is a long winded story though, and went on for over a year of me taking the diff out multiple times. Cheers for the comment mate 🙏🏻
Haha I dunno how many more times I can just upload videos of me talking random crap though, might have to leave it a few weeks and do some proper videos, although this took me longer to put together than most other videos cause it’s such a long story and length of time haha.
Haha maybe, I do work full time though this one took ages, but I’ll see how much random footage I have in my phone of the whole locker ordeal. Lucky I take a lot of snap chats and videos while I’m doing random jobs. I just should have sacked up and filmed it but I had a lot going on and 2 patrols with 4 diffs pulled out at once swapping stuff around 😂
Sick build bro, been loving the vids. I’m looking to buy a gq td42 to build up as my first proper 4wd. Do u have any advice/what u would’ve done differently from the beginning? Cheers man keep up the vids
Honestly I made a lot of mistakes and did a lot of things wrong additionally to what ended up in this video that I’ve left out, if it’s stayed in the story I think it’s important, a big regret would probably be the E Lockers for one, and another big one is trying to chase power and getting greedy with power. Keep it reliable and enjoy it.
Cheers bro for letting us know how stuff all started I am trying to get my own channel started any tips I'm around the hervey bay area so my content will be all of that to start with . Keep it up I love your channel it's mad and keeps me wanting to do more every week .cheers Shaun
Honestly all you can really do is upload consistent & content people will enjoy & as long as you enjoy it it’ll become a routine. I’d be lying if I said I built this channel myself, I had a big advantage from being mates with Tyler, not only by being lucky to be featured by him on socials but also being able to seek his advice etc. But yeah best advice I have is that instagram and RUclips seem to be the most valuable to grow so put equal effort into them. 🙏🏻
@@timmyhasheart thanks heaps I will do my best . It would be great to go for a drive somewhere with you one day I'm keen anytime cheers I will put my whole heart in an see what happens is all I can do ? Thanks for getting back to me. Mad bro
I dunno whether that’s the case at all tbh, no one talked me into doing them or anything, I made the call cause the last ones I tried were air lockers and I liked the idea of only having to run 12v to the diffs, I still love the idea of them, the front one was flawless but yeah without going right into it the rear one let me down a lot, but it’s not because of the typical stuff people whine about, like them disengaging supposedly on direction change and all that BS. Totally different issues. 🤙🏻 cheers for the comment
Timmy, how much lift did you eventually end up with you mentioned 2" but then messed around with it a bit more. Like you I don't want to go crazy but do want to optimise flex. I plan to run 50mm taller front towers and get 125mm travel shocks in and run 100mm travel rears. Its currently at just under 2" and think 3" would be about right. I daily it so it's on 33's atm but will get 35": for trail use at some point.
Hey mate I run 12” travel fronts and 13” travel rears which are superior 7” lift remote res shocks and run 3” coils. All bump stopped to never bottom out shocks. 👍🏻
Timmy. Love the videos brother, I’m just about to whack a new pump and turbo on my old girl aswel. I’m tossing up wether to do the turbo head also, what are you thoughts? Cheers mate
I wouldn’t worry about touching the head much less “upgrade to turbo head” they’re not different enough to worry mate, turbo head is a tad less compression, I only did it because my head gasket was gone and I didn’t want to have downtime. For example if I took the head off and it was actually the head that was cracked rather than the head gasket being blown I didn’t want to have to wait for a machine shop to redo the/a head. So I just bought a head and replaced the head and gasket at the same time. Cheers for the kind words mate 🙏🏻
@@timmyhasheart legend mate, thanks for the info. I will be buying the same pump you did, did you do injectors? I’m thinking a fresh set of the zexel injectors won’t hurt! Also will probably just go a 16g over the 18. Thoughts? Lol no rush on the reply mate. Thanks
Yeah right, well mine was a UFI200 which was an 11mm at the time, but now I’m pretty sure even their UFI230 pumps are 11mm. They only start 12mm at about 250 I think.. but like that’s just evidence that you don’t need a “12mm pump” just cause it’s the word every one knows.. dead set a UFI230 would be enough to break all the cranks your heart desires. And yeah I did do new injectors mate, just Zexel ones from Patrolapart which are genuine. Zexel is the manufacturer of genuine fuel components for Nissan. 🤙🏻
Hey mate, na just factory GU front and rear. Tbh they’re ridiculous after breaking 6 GQ ones, went up a tyre size and still drive as hard and still yet to break one.
@@timmyhasheart that’s awesome man it goes to show how much stronger they are compared to the old ones, my 75 breaks axles everytime I leave my driveway😂
nice man! here in europe the most popular engine swap we do is the BMW m57. Sounds so good and have plenty of power and its bulletproof. Check some videos of m57 swapped patrols. channel TOP OFFROAD ROMANIA has some awesome videos
Yeah mate know all about them, there is a few done here, same with OM606. I don’t really rate the idea of RPM diesels hey, the goal with mine has always been to make as much torque as early as possible, those 3L euros are designed to rev, if I wanted to rev I’d chuck a petrol in haha. I do understand the appeal, power + fuel eco is never a bad thing, but I’d rather torque all day personally 🤙🏻

Gives me abit of motivation to keep chipping away at mine. The places they can take ya are so worth all the times swearing in ya shed haha
Haha nice mate, that’s the thing I wanted to show - they don’t just get done overnight it’s taken years to get it to where it is 👊🏻
Would love to know the story behind the e lockers mate, i have one in my gu zd30 and cant fault it or havent broken it yet. curious you went back to air.
Looking forward to the locker story
Haha I dunno how many more times I can just upload videos of me talking random crap though, might have to leave it a few weeks and do some proper videos, although this took me longer to put together than most other videos cause it’s such a long story and length of time haha.
Make it a sneaky mid week episode 👌
Haha maybe, I do work full time though this one took ages, but I’ll see how much random footage I have in my phone of the whole locker ordeal. Lucky I take a lot of snap chats and videos while I’m doing random jobs.
I just should have sacked up and filmed it but I had a lot going on and 2 patrols with 4 diffs pulled out at once swapping stuff around 😂
G'day mate, next time you are in Swansea look me up dude, I'd love one of those Kinctome sets, pop in, projects plus here, rock the fuck on
Sick build bro, been loving the vids.
Keep it reliable and enjoy it.
as always mate mint video
Awesome mate thank you 🙏🏻
What a story 👍🏻🤙🏼👏🏻💪🏻
Haha she’s come a long way! Feels like I’ve had her forever!
Mad bro
Awesome rig mate you have taken your time and done it right and that’s all that matters 🥵👌 I’ve got I10WP as my rego number almost the same as yours 😂
Thanks heaps mate, much appreciated 🙏🏻🙏🏻 oh really haha that’s awesome 🤙🏻
Everyone gets sucked into the elocker hype gets burnt and learns the hard way.
I find if you have a spare motor the one in it gets scared and stays good
Hahaha let’s hope so, going strong so far 😂
Great video! I’m looking to get my patrol engineered and wondering who you used and how much it cost? Cheers
Hey mate any details about engineering feel free to reach out on Insta rather than public and cheers mate appreciate it 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Can’t believe gq’s used to go for 8k???
Yeah times have changed :( this certainly wasn’t perfect but it was bloooooody clean on the outside for $8k
Timmy. Love the videos brother, I’m just about to whack a new pump and turbo on my old girl aswel. I’m tossing up wether to do the turbo head also, what are you thoughts?
Cheers mate
And also thinking injectors too!
@@timmyhasheart ripper, thanks heaps for your info mate, really appreciate it. Will chat to you soon
Hey what wheels do you have please?
Ahh now I have Dirty Life Roadkills, before that they were just dynamic steel rims 👍🏻👍🏻
have you got cromolly axles?
Cracker vid mate 👌
Cheers mate 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Fucking awesome 👌

Cheers mate 🤙🏻
