I reckon I would of made the same decision. A workable double din unit couldn't go anywhere else. And it looks great and works well. Great execution Liam
This really looks sick. I would not change a single thing honestly. I’ve got a 98 Triton and this video has given me some ideas to work with my Ute and get it fitted out. Cheers guys 👍🏼
Got a link for the sub you put in, I recently put one of the teyes android(practically the same as yours) touch screen units in my old 2003 courier, they're pretty cool hey having a bit of tech in an old car.
The only change I can really see, is to make it slightly lower, but I don't think you could go much less. Otherwise, to make it more of a factory look, & it would be a massive effort, would be to rip out the whole centre dash/console, & start from scratch. Your design is much more cost-effective & still gives you everything you need
I love how you guys just make it work with what you have and not just go out a spend ridiculous amounts on mods. Keeping it real and relatable. One of the best 4x4 channels out there in my opinion. Thanks guys
Was going to comment the same! What a bloody lovely video to watch. And a great result too. I get your reluctance to drill or fasten to your dash Liam but please consider it. Reckon I’ll be doing something similar in my GQ one day and will be posed with the same problem. I won’t be removing it, it’s a great permanent addition so it will likely be fastened permanently. And securely. Bloody well done, love your resourceful sheet metal folding work too
Brilliant stuff. You boys have these DIY episodes down path. You always know how to make them engaging and entertaining to watch. Excellent work from both of you. 👍
I had a shot at you boys about your choice of snorkel, I stand by my opinion on stainless snorkels but I must say - good on you young fellas, my 6 boys (!) love you guys and I think you lot are a great example to other young guys out there and keep up the good work. Just remember that good looks should not over ride function!!
Love the design and very well done. You could fill the space of the old head unit with a single din storage pocket for your wallet etc. Jaycar would have something. Adds to the factory finish and closes up the space.
another DIY vid from the lads. thats wat we luv bout this channel. no BS, just getting it done the best way n sharing the process. awesome. all u Pat lads should be putting in orders for ur own.
8:32 Now you have the perfect place for a single din UHF radio. The box "fits" really well in that spot on top of the dash, with a very good heads up display position. Great work fellas 10:48 Why do you have a Cummins sticker on your dash? Is this an easter egg? Is a 6BT upgrade in your sights? Don't forget to smash that like button & comment, to feed the algorithm, as reward for these fellas efforts to entertain us
Well done awesome work. I have also added a front camera on a switch for when I rock crawl. It helps if you want to place your wheels when you get to a technical stage.
Got the same atoto unit as Patrick based on the video in his 80. For the price they are a brilliant unit, got the reverse camera and front dash cam too. The install came up a treat! Neat as hell and looks like it was meant to be 👌
Only thing I would do is mount it a little stronger. I know the velcro works well but if you are in a accident. That becomes a brick missile at head hight. But, looks awesome and has given me heaps of ideas for my build.
I love wheeling but know very little about cars mechanics and electrics and learning heaps from just watching you guys DIY all these things. So cool and 100% jealous of that shed and all the tools you’ve got there! Keep it coming 🙌🏽
Looks pretty good. I prefer to use a layer of 3mm foam and then cover it with vinyl to give it a more factory look. It's all just down to personal preference though. Great job.
Just sat down with a morning coffee and saw your video come up perfect timing ✔️✔️your workmanship excellent 👌👍 faultless couldn't do better myself glad you guys have a Go at everything you want💪👍
Every Sunday I’m just waiting for you guys to post a video and every time they are so interesting and I always watch all of them keep up the good work mate
This came out amazing, thanks for all the detail, love that you didn't drop a bunch of $ on specialty tools and just did a great job anyway! I've been wanting to do a custom DC control box to mount in a specific location but struggling to find the right thing (medicine cabinet notwithstanding) and will probably go the aly bend and carpet route.
These head units are really good! I’ve had mine for over a year. Best radio ever! I’ve hooked my vhf/uhf radio fed into the unit for better clarity of sound to listen people talking on the road or out bush. Also the apps and the accessories for it work flawlessly! Great job guys👏
Would you still recommend this headunit mate ? I had a Sony and the sound quality was great but wanted other features. Went to a android unit and now it sounds bad so debating this
the atoto units are very nice, i have a a6pf wich for the price destroys most stock touch hu, but something that could be a pain point is that by default instead of turning off when ignition is off they go for ~12h in standby before shutting down, wich lets it boot quickly(not that the default boot is slow) within the standby period as you have shown in the video, but it means that they'll still drain battery, the only way to disable this "sleep" mode is by accessing the secret menu, which contains some further customizations(be careful in here) and can be accessed by going into settings, then click the “system” button 4 times in rapid succession and when prompted put in code 3368
My first video I've watched from you and it's awesome! So Aussie and it's great! Have a can that's been on the shelf for a year but still full, let's use it and see how it goes, so awesome! Thanks for the video!
Ahhh that's mint! Definitely legit factory fit! Love the carpet! Very OCD perfect finish maaaan! I can see missing signs! I have got one STOP sign found on the road but I wont be making one as my truck has single din connection.
Grey beard 4WD here you have gone a long way in restoring my faith in the youth of 2day with your channel and ingenuity, have you considered maybe making these units up there would be a place on eBay for them I would think.
Awesome work bloody keen to see someone just go for it obviously a good amount of planning involved but looks great looking to do something similar myself except 3d print the housing was thinking light bondo & paint but that carpet solution at least seems a lot less stressful than all that milarky so cheers
I like the idea of building an extension to your dash to install stuff and obviously, you have the tools and know how and you've done a great job. However, if i were you, i'd upgrade the dash completely, to have a better layout behind the shifting lever and of course, to be able to install any other gadgets. however, this might require to take the dash off completely. or it might not, i don't know. good job!
I've been using Android Tablets in my 4WDs with my favourite Android Apps, including iGO Street Navigation and OziExplorer Maps for over 7 years now. I love the ability the tablets offer to test and try out the different Street Navigation and Off-road Topo Maps on Android Apps Store these days and for the life of me, I can't see the point of spending $600 on a main brand headunit that only offers Android Auto Play when you can have a fully functioning Android Head Unit like like the ATOTO, I had a serious look at the ATOTO S8 earlier this this year, and came very close to buying either the S8 or A6 Advance, but as I was about to undergo surgery and off work for a couple months, I opted to stay with my Single Din Kenwood and up-grade to a Newer Tablet for my Patrol and have another look at the ATOTO later in the year or early in 2024. With most of the ATOTO Headunits, you can also connect a 2nd front camera and record and store both the Front and Rear camera views, and the front facing camera can also assist in that dreeded front Black Spot due to the bonnet while 4WDing.
looks very good I was a trimmer for years and yea nice job if you do it again have a go with timber you can round off the edges and play with the shape and its a bit more forgiving and leather fits nice to and shapes. please I am not knocking you you did a great job and it looks great
verry nice job, i just bought a single din 10" android unit for 200 dollars and installed it and it connects to my obd2 scanner and gives me real time data on my jeep.
Not sure if anyone else has suggested it but you can hook up multiple cameras up to a switch and use them when rock crawling/ doing more technical driving
What a great combo. Having the S8 up top is so much better than hidden down low and it does look great and will be very useful. I’ve been looking at the ATOTO units but either the pro isn’t available here or just not seen it yet. It does look very sleek. Also impressed with the JustRaceParts gauges. I was in touch with them for a tricky setup and need to complete the order with them. Very good to have the audio and gauge set there. Also the additional switches. I’ve a few blanks but if I was making a pod then I’d follow your CAD. The dash mat and the pod do look very factory. My dash has reasonable space for a double-DIN but I’m impressed with the aluminium box, rivets and carpet. You’ve done in a couple of week, what I’ve failed to do in a couple of months. Would I do anything different? Well no. My application is a bit different but I need to think now! Thanks for making and sharing.
CAD.... Carboard Aided Design..... I like it and its a time honoured process. In shop we would score the fold lines a lot deeper to help them fold easier and get a square edge bend. You could also use Vinyl or leather for wrapping, carpet is more difficult but cheaper. May have put the Head unit on an small angle pointing toward you. May be a pull out glare hood over the head unit so as you can see it in the sun or pushed a littel back in the shell so as it has shade over the screen. Nice job but!
yes... yes the cheaper ones do last been running them for years. cant complain for a $300 10.1" unit with all the same stuff. actually thats at the top end with the 8core procesor and 16/128gb internal storage. even the wifi antenna is built in. love the endless customizations that come with these units. even changing the home app to something with more info like carwebguru if thats what your into. great addition to the rig. box looks good.
Good to see the plasma getting some use. Amazing build guys. And thanks for the awesome Tshirt at the 4wd show. It was nice meeting you there Liam. Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet Patrick at another event.
Hey Liam, i might suggeswt that you cut the back of the folds with a 1mm cutting disc but only like a third through the material, i reckon that will give you a good sharp straight fold.
I have considered such a method but the location on top of the dashboard obscures the view essentially with a high clearance rig and even difficult for off-roading. So I brought it down just under the ac vent and a second tab facing me from the passenger side dash top/shelf.
What's your guys thoughts on the box? would you do anything differently?
I reckon I would of made the same decision. A workable double din unit couldn't go anywhere else. And it looks great and works well. Great execution Liam

Ive done the same but i used a gq radio fascia flipped upside down and cut in half to match the rest of the interior!
I love how you guys just make it work with what you have and not just go out a spend ridiculous amounts on mods. Keeping it real and relatable. One of the best 4x4 channels out there in my opinion. Thanks guys
Thanks Adam! That really means alot mate!! cheers :)
@@AussieArvoscould you ad the plan of the ''box'' ?
Happy Fathers Day all! Thanks for not making this a 5 part series like some other channels would 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks mate!
Next time you do something similar score the internal fold points with a grinder cut off wheel. Will give you a perfect fold 👌🏼
Joy on Liam's face is priceless. Shows the pride he takes in doing things himself. Good onya kiddo.
Was going to comment the same! What a bloody lovely video to watch. And a great result too. I get your reluctance to drill or fasten to your dash Liam but please consider it.

So legends, at the start of every great project you need to go flog a street sign.
I used a speed sign to make a speaker console in my boat 👍
Yesss good work young fella need more kids like you around these days
“do your best, carpet the rest” is a great motto!
I am surprised that more people don't build something like this. Awesome work!
Brilliant stuff. You boys have these DIY episodes down path. You always know how to make them engaging and entertaining to watch. Excellent work from both of you. 👍
Thanks Fatman! we love doing the DIY stuff! Cheers mate!
Just love the "simple" way u are running this, no matter what u are showing. Keep it up guys, u are my favourite channel😊
Thanks mate!
Excellent work Liam. Brings the GU into the 21st Century. Once again great editing. 👍
Thanks Hammer!!
22:50 Excellent work Liam,
you young fellas are making us Old Blokes proud.
I reference your Vids all the time.
Keep em coming.
Great idea and has given me some ideas for my old clunker ute. Love the use of the totally obtained legally street sign.
Awesome job.
Love the design and very well done. You could fill the space of the old head unit with a single din storage pocket for your wallet etc. Jaycar would have something. Adds to the factory finish and closes up the space.
Very tuned in young fellas. I love the way you present yourselves, both of you.
HOLY SHIT!!! Just the episode i needed because ive been trying to work out how i would do JUST THIS!! Thanks boys.
The dashboard looks so cool and I like how happy you are with your work. Good work mate!

Thanks mate! Yeah perfect spot for a UHF. And no I don't think the patrol will be receiving a Cummins, just silly P plater things haha
Copy that, Liam @@AussieArvos But maybe in the future......... giggles
Awesome watch guys. Love watching you guys make stuff like this, makes me itch to get out and make something similar for myself

thanks for reusing the amazon box. The backup camera alone is worth making this whole system work. Looks great too
Looks beautiful and it doesn't look out of place too! Great job
the unit honestly looks really good, great job the this custom dashboard.
Just sat down with a morning coffee and saw your video come up perfect timing ✔️✔️your workmanship excellent 👌👍 faultless couldn't do better myself glad you guys have a Go at everything you want💪👍

This is grass roots 4wd and I love it! That is one awesome head unit, I will put it on my wish list of "nice to haves"
Great video guys...as alway 💯
Soon as he pulled that street sign out knew it was gonna be a great episode bloody legends
Nice work and I enjoy your passion for working on your 4wd.
Absolute..Bloody..Legend.. love the set up !!! You guys have an awesome YT channel. Thankyou for your time and effort 👍👍👍😃

Hot tip for folding. Score the back 1/3 of the thickness of material with a grinder, bends like butter.
Great video i picked up that same sub today for my 4WD after your comments. Cheers
Loven the work love the td gq
Bunch of street signs about to start going missing 😂.
Love the Ingenuity on folding the angles 👌🏻

I've just installed an eonon headunit in my car. Basically the same functionality, $260!! For the price it can't be beat
This is so bloody good!!! Next minute a fab shop will be selling these for $800

Perfect timing for this video. Need ideas for my D40 Navara.
Gunna put one in my d40 aswell
this is my second time watching your videos and I learn a lot from you guys.
wow. I honestly think that its a brilliant idea. if I have any room on my car I reckon id give it a shot too. looks good too by the way!
Bloody nice job young fella. Well done. Given me a few ideas for my ute.
That's dope af brother - got me brainstorming to make one myself for a 3rd gen 4runner now
That box is so awesome i wouldnt change a thing maybe a circle gage would look cool but thats sick

That’s actually brilliant
Great job it looks fantastic better than factory 😉
Definitely going to use something similar on my next build very clean setup
Good job mate. That looks really clean!
Hey Liam, thanks for the tip about the Wipertech blades a while back. I got some for my car - much better than the originals. Thanks!
No worries! Been loving mine as well!
Me looks at old road sign I have in the shed well its cutting time good job on the console
yes... yes the cheaper ones do last been running them for years. cant complain for a $300 10.1" unit with all the same stuff. actually thats at the top end with the 8core procesor and 16/128gb internal storage. even the wifi antenna is built in. love the endless customizations that come with these units. even changing the home app to something with more info like carwebguru if thats what your into. great addition to the rig. box looks good.
Should Add a override switch for the rear camera so you can see when you have a canopy on the back
Liem is over the moon about his new stereo couldn’t wipe the smile off his dial lol.
Nice work lads I might invest in one of these as well 👍🏽
That's sick, im definitely buying the switches as well
Great job, think it’s great you guys give everything a crack on your own, and don’t just go out and buy the latest and greatest or send it to a shop
Had a quick look at the head unit, supports Australian 4G bands.
Good to see the plasma getting some use. Amazing build guys. And thanks for the awesome Tshirt at the 4wd show. It was nice meeting you there Liam. Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet Patrick at another event.
Thanks Curtis! It's been awesome!! No worries , great meeting you too! Definitly cheers :)
great video Liam. hope you had a great weekend
a tip for when your extending looms use trailer loom wire its cheaper and its pre sheathed, alos you can get it in 5,7,and 12 wire
Great video there guys.
From William.
Mount Gambier-South Australia.
Hey Liam, i might suggeswt that you cut the back of the folds with a 1mm cutting disc but only like a third through the material, i reckon that will give you a good sharp straight fold.
Great work lads highly rate the Alpha Blokes plug on the head unit
Congrats on the 100k lads.
The back of the box would also be a really good spot to mount a dash am out of sight
Great project. We might need some kind of cover to keep it from getting stolen.
I’ve been blessed with a good double din location, but this would’ve been a life saver in my old lux!
Yeah they have worked it out for modern cars!
I have considered such a method but the location on top of the dashboard obscures the view essentially with a high clearance rig and even difficult for off-roading. So I brought it down just under the ac vent and a second tab facing me from the passenger side dash top/shelf.
