@Steven Daly A lot will also come down to how much spannering you can do on it yourself and finding bits second hand or cheap.
Interesting to do a total cost of ownership as well as a lot of the older rigs need constant maintenance or get to the point of not being worth the effort.
My plan was to buy near new, do the mods I wanted and then do nothing more than routine servicing etc. See if it works. Lol

Im just echoing some posts before me when I say I love seeing these budget builds. Not only are they diy inspiring, they're reassuring. We all get a bit caught up in the latest ideas on the market and can end up disheartened when we realise it will take years to buy up and have stuff fitted. But vids like this remind us we don't need flash and fancy to get out and be in the bush to the fullest.
Save your money for good tyres, good suspension and regular maintenance by using your noggin to make your own stuff out of bits and pieces. The Satisfaction of making your own is worth even more than the savings. Plus, rough n ready home made or modified to suit looks cooler than the polished and precise bought stuff. 🤟

This is a much more realistic build... most people out there don't have $10k to drop on a storage system and a $20k suspension.. great stuff !

@@k2svpete It doesn't look like an ARB bar to be honest. The ARB upright posts start at the top of the bumper and not the bottom like the one on this GQ. If it was ARB he would be able to replace the indicators and wouldn't have to hunt around. Plus there is a part number plate welded and then stamped on the inside of the bullbar, passenger side wing.

There's a really clean Safari (JDM Patrol +/-) for sale here in the US through a broker. It's an '86 with about 50k miles (80k km). They're asking $16,900 USD ($24,336 AUD). Crazy price for an old car for which we can't hardly get parts. It's still tempting though.

I haven't seen water bags since I was a kid. Late 70s my parents took me (then about 4 years old) around Aus in a little land rover that was stinking hot and noisy and gutless with two water bags on the front refilled from jerry cans. Always cool water and i remember the canvas taste still haha. We kept them into my early teens when we replaced them with cooler jugs. Haven't used one of them for a while either.

Hey Ronny? How you going? Big fan! Got a Gq patrol for a future episode that you'll be interested in!
This video, the chap with the unknown bullbar. Well I'm pretty sure I have the same bull bar and in the same boat! Apparently it was an arb bullbar that was a factory option when they sold the Gq from the dealership and apparently with the lights, they're the stock front bumper lights, they just take them out and put them in the bullbar. But catch 22, the light has no serial or part number what so ever and they don't make the parts anymore!
Been searching for a couple years now to find it! TJM has blinker lights from one of they're bullbars. With some slight modifications, they'll fit right in!
    Hope it's helpful

Funny, I've had no probs going where bigger, more powerful rigs on muddies go for the last 80,000km & on sand I can always go further. No issues on road in the wet but I've set my suspension up properly. Most likely if you have grip issues in the wet, your suspension is set up poorly.

@@gqwarrior6694 I've had KO2s for the last year, stock suspension and carrying essentially no extra weight that would require suspension work. They're shit on wet roads, I have to crawl through roundabouts. Pretty decent off road, but I won't be sticking with them when I have to change

    • @gqwarrior6694
      @gqwarrior6694 4 года назад

@@penguinchampion Stock suspension is your problem. Vehicles come from factory with suspension & tyres designed for road use. The moment you go to a tyre designed more for offroad use, the suspension can't deal with it properly. Some tyres will show up the issue worse than others but putting an offroad touring suspension set up in your rig would solve 60% of the issue & changing to a thicker front sway bar would solve the rest but you may not be willing to do that so a more road oriented tyre may be a better choice for you. Personally, even in my 29yr old rig with a heavy old diesel up front, I have to brake really late to load up the front end & push it hard into a corner to get it to let go. Straight line braking is limited by my rigs brakes rather than the tyres & I need a lot of right boot to get the rear end to let go. For me, they are a great tyre. So good in fact I'm putting a new set on tommorow with about 20,000km tread left on the old ones.

You can spend $1000 a light and the first roo that goes through the bar will destroy them 🦘💥💰. Or you can buy second hand IPF hids for $100 on gumtree. Don't get fooled by the expensive light hype

Favorite episode and first comment on your channel. I dig the guy, I dig his rig and his attitude. Most of my parts are Facebook found and I’m able to purchase more within my budget.

That bullbar looks identical to the ARB one i had on my fj62, including the indicator cuts and mounting tabs. It accepted the factory indicators from a 60 series. Maybe those will fit yours?
