    Great video, Andrew! You're onto something with regards to the control throws... I too have waaay too much control authority in manual mode. I wasn't even aware I could limit them in iNav, still learning my way around it myself... lol I 100% agree with you, it needs some adjustment on the linkages to mechanically limit the throws to something more realistic. I believe that would allow the FC to work better. I had the same issue when I put an old Storm in the Nano Talon. I was unable to "tune" it to fly well in any stabilized modes until I adjusted the aileron linkages to get more resolution from the servos. Longer horns on the surfaces would help. I will likely check to see if there's room to move the linkages closer to the servos on that end first, if not I may raid my box of parts and find some longer horns to bolt on. By the way, I flew mine again today, nothing real exciting as it was still a bit too rough/windy to do any further tuning, but I did take it a couple miles out and flew around for 20 minutes or so. I may edit something and post that soon unless I get more exciting footage first. lol Anyway, thanks for the great content as usual!

    Great video Andrew, I feel lucky now, I noticed one of my control horns had a crack where the balljoint was screwed through, so I replaced them both with
    what I had on hand, and being one hole longer than stock I've now fixed another problem I was unaware of. Good news also, the stock horns are screwed only,
    no glue makes for easy replacement.
    Cheers from the south.

    Hi Andrew,
    If you get the sticks to where it is flying level in manual mode and do a servo auto trim for 2 seconds then land and disarm, it will have the servos in exactly the position they need to be for level flight.
    Now do your manual adjustment of the pushrods to get the surfaces in the same position and fly and do an auto trim again and it will be perfect.
    Auto trim is a great way to take the guess work out of where you think the pushrods should be and get it right the first time.

    Great videos Andrew, my GT Rebel is on the way (was $100 off on summer sale BG).
    Partly because of your reviews it convinced me.
    A question; I always had this “phobia” of magnets near flight controllers, and thus always avoided the use of strong magnets to keep hatches down. Did you ever find this to be problematic or interfere with sensors?
    I know the GT rebel uses the magnets as well so I’m very curious about your thoughts...
    Thanks in advance, Gert.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 лет назад

      Excellent Gert. It really is a well designed plane, fast and efficient, and packs down into a backpack in minutes. I have never worried too much about magnets, other than keeping components a few cm away from them. I did see an ESC go crazy once when a loose magnet stuck right onto it.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  4 месяца назад

      Thanks. That was 4 years ago, I have a more recent INAV setup for the Talon GT. Also slimmed down the nose for much better efficiency. No reflex, I just let INAV continuous servo trim take care of that. www.youtube.com/@AndrewNewton/search?query=Talon%20GT

    Andrew first I want to thank you for making this video! I wanted to ask about what you ended up doing in order to tame the Talon. I’m in the middle of setting mine up and I have already installed longer horns on all control surfaces and I’ve also moved the servo rods to the lowest hole on the servo horns. And still, this model has way too much travel. Currently I cannot go any lower than 10mm of travel for elev/rudder and 15mm for aileron. What else can I do to further tame this plane?

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  3 года назад

      Same, longer control horns and I reduced the rates as well.

    I think in the documentation, matek tells you what your current scale needs to be to get accurate current reading

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 лет назад

      Yes that's right Henry 317, but scaling is not the problem. The current reading drops from 0.8A to 0.2A as I throttle up. Fried current sensor or resistor I suspect

  • @WX4CB
    @WX4CB 5 лет назад

    doesn't sound like anyone else has mentioned it, @4:15 your min throttle should be around 1050 and the min command as 1000 just because your mototrs won't start generally below 1050 as the esc can't run them slow enough, you can also run into arming issues. your current sensor should be set to what is listed on the matek FC page (317 I beleive). nav_cruise is alt hold and heading hold

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 лет назад

      Excellent thanks. I started with current sensor at 317 and that was giving a reading of 1/10th expected current. Just trying different scaling to see if that's the issue. May be dodgy soldering or fried components

      @WX4CB 5 лет назад

      @@AndrewNewton checkt he matek website for the flight controller.. I don't have one of mine to hand to check what mine is. is it a reading of 1/10th of the current or it's a 1/10th off? i've got 5-6 F405 wings and they're all pretty much spot on within a few milliamps. not enough for me to worry about

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 лет назад

      I have another F405 Wing board that work as expected with 317 but this gives false current readings for some reason. With scaling of 317 it doesn't move from around 0.4 for the whole flight.

    Great overview of iNAV, Andrew. On my F405-WING I had to raise the current monitoring scale to 317 before I got an accurate reading. Btw, I heard CASA is proposing a $20 per-model registration fee - is that right because it sounds crazy

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 лет назад
