    The turbine wheel is on the exhaust hot side, the compressor wheel is on the cold intake side

    I do a lot of heavy towing and I have a superduty 7.3 zf6 speed and i went through a few different turbo configurations before i believe i got it right. Engine has ebpv delete.I bought a kc300x 63/73 and decided after 3 months it just wasn't working. Way to laggy so i bought a Gtp38r with a 1.0ar turbine housing and it was definitely better but still laggy on the bottom. So i did more research and bought a kc38r cartridge replacement and that was more laggy. So after brainstorming i decided to do what no one seems to do. I put the stock .84ar housing on the gtp38r and wow i don't care what anyone says but this thing pulls like a v8 mack with loads of bottom end. I recommend to anyone with a 7.3 to stick with the Garrett gtp38r but go with the .84ar you won't be disappointed. Had this configuration running for 200,000mile now and waste gate delete as well. I drive it like a truck and it never sees more than 2200rpm when going through gears and i sit on 1850rpm all day no problem.

      You would've saved a lot of money by just swapping in a billet 5+5 from Swag. If it were an auto then the 1.0 hot side would've been good but since it's manual I'd keep the smaller housing. I have a similar setup as you and am running the billet wheel I mentioned. Custom tunes and CNC 20* HPOP and I've never had mine hot enough to where I had to lift. If I were you and just had to have a drop-in turbo, I would've went with a 63/68. That would've been a great match.

    K&N air Filters usually cause the Turbo wheel to get worn plus the debris gets in the combustion chamber and scars the cylinders walls. If you use a K&N Filter, I’d check that new Turbo Wheel again.

    So that stock turbo will break and chip like that from lack of maintenance aka not changing air filters some of these trucks don't have the monitor for the air filter

    Your 7.3 seems a lot faster than mine. Is there that much of a difference in OBS and super duty 7.3’s?

    • @juststartadventures8057
      @juststartadventures8057  3 года назад +1

      The OBS 7.3 power stoke made 210 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque in 1994. Then in 1999-2003 it made roughly 275 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque.
      Just a hair more power, also mine has a 4” exhaust all the way through and a k&n air filter helps it breath in and out a bit better.

      obs fords didnt have an intercooler and have the e40d (sloppy shift) transmission while the 10th gen super duty's have the 4r100's which are substantially better, but i also have an obs, and there are a couple easy mods you can do can make it even better than a super duty, first upgrade your trans cooler because heat is what kills e40d's, next install a t6 tuner and a banks transcommand transmission control module. then upgrade your downpipe and exhaust to the diamondeye 3inch down to 4 inch pipe or an equivalent, honestly most aftermarket exhaust kits are better than the stock obs exhaust, the down pipe is super restrictive and causes high egt's, it looks like a cobra head because they squished it down to fit past the firewall. once you have done all of that install an intercooler kit and get some gauges, specifically a pyrometer, boost gauge, and a trans temp gauge, gloshift makes a diesel gauge kit for 200 bucks. your truck will then be pretty fast but if you still want some more juice install a wicked wheel turbo impeller or the banks turbo power package. and the last step to some pretty decent power and also the most expensive step is to upgrade your hpop and injectors, i recommend babyswampers. but the upgraded adrenaline hpop is 800 bucks and injectors are around 2k

    • @psd28
      @psd28 2 года назад +3

      i have a manual so completely forget about the sloppy shifting issue. I also already have the tuner 👍👍. Basically i already have all of that i just havent installed the downpipe, truck came with gauges too. I dont think i will install an intercooler though, i like the simpler non intercooled style. The turbo wheel isnt a wicked wheel, but i can confirm it is an upgraded one that builds better boost at lower RPM’s.
      I will probably go with stage 1.5 injectors one day when i can afford that upgrade, i hear they dont require an hpop upgrade to run them.

    One thing you should never do is use a impact on a turbo wheel thats a good way to stress the turbine shaft and cause it to crack you must have gotten lucky if you haven't had any issues from it yet
