I kinda want to play a Half-life 1 version where nothing really happens. Just a week of work at Black Mesa doing tasks and running around the huge plant.

I love how Gordon and Shepard went on to become an heroes and try to stop the alien invasion, and then here's Barney who just went "nop, nana, not doin dis" and quietly fucked off with a bunch of scientists on a truck.
I mean to be fair, he was the only one of the three who didn't have some kind of weird power armor. He literally just had a kevlar vest and a helmet.
Barney was pretty hardcore to have survived the invasion AND directly saved scientists while he was at it with no power suit, he kinda deserves it more than Adrian or Gordon for that.
actually there were 5 characters, 3 serious (Yes 3, and they are Gina, Gordon, Adrian) the other 2 who are sarcastic and jumpy and dont give a shit are Green, Barney)
I like how the cascade happens while Barney is in the elevator. It just emphasizes how unimportant he is in all this. He's a sideshow, the background of the main event, yet he still has a story to tell.

My favorite expansion. Barney is one hell of a dude--survived Xen invading and the Combine without Gman needing to take him in his dimension to keep him safe. Gordon may be cool and all but Barney is the unsung badass of the series
he is my favorite character already.
He lived through the Resonance Cascade, the 7 Hour War and the Combine Occupation all on his own
He's literally so cool, him not having any power armor or special weapons and STILL being able to make it out of black mesa and xen proves it.
That grenade jump near the end was legendary.

Half-Life Decay has had a PC port created that allows for online play. It's well made and includes all the original content from the PS2 port in the mod itself. It works through Steam and is a high recommendation from me.

How could Gman not be looking over Barney in someway? Barney is the reason Gordon ever survived to carry out half-life 2, Gordon would've been turned into a stalker 10 minutes into the game
I'm sure Barney has always been in Gman's peripherals, as well as many others. Freeman is just his main pawn that he gives the most attention to, with Alyx presumably being a close second. Gman probably had something to do with Barney's continued luck (Not only escaping Black Mesa, but surviving the seven hour war and joining civil protection, and remaining incognito for so long) he just never made barney aware, or made his presence known to him, because he's not AS important.

The Gman only cared about Gordon and Shepherd, I always thought that Barney survived Black Mesa through dumb luck and he joined civil protection because he was hand picked by Cliener. I felt that Barney surviving and joining civil protection shaped Gman's plan (at least where he put Gordon)
That could very well be true, and for all we know Barney may have been an essential part of Kleiner and Vance's escape, and helped them stay hidden after the war, it'd explain why they're all together, instead of implying they found each other by chance.

FunFact: Blue Shift was a part of the canceled Half-Life Dreamcast port and was intended to be released as a second disk.

I actually have a Dreamcast copy of half-life and it came with Blue Shift, hell it even said that it was EXCLUSIVE to it.

Joel I feel like you hate hate having high health in Half Life because you never get 100 health when you're able to and you always carelessly take unnecessary damage.
It's a way of playing the game, I guess. I played hls an hour ago and I did the same. My explanation to it would be that I don't care, I know what I am capable of and aren't really bothered by not having full hp or hp being low.

The reason why SEGA is mentioned in the credits as Blue Shift was meant to be a Dreamcast exclusive. But then Half Life for Dreamcast got cancelled.
At the time Joel streamed this, the world record for holding breath was actually 24 minutes and 3.45 seconds.

Half Life: Decay would have been better if you controlled Eli and Kleiner and it would have showed how they escaped Black Mesa. Does anyone know if a mod like that exists?

Kandriod Portal 1 is definitely better.
I prefer Portal 2 tbh, since I can't really think of anything better in the first game. The puzzles are easier, the challenges are much less fair, the aesthetic is less original, the music is less memorable, etc. Not saying P1 is bad, but P2 is way better.

Half-Life: Echoes is basically what Joel described as a fourth expansion pack, you play as a scientist trying to leave Black Mesa, I'd heavily recommend it.

The HD pack makes some guns sound ridiculous. Both the shotgun and assault rifle sound like...explosions. I prefer the original weapons. Also the recoil on the pistol is insane, especially in rapid-fire mode.
Yeah, the shotgun in particular sounds fucking insane. The shotgun cocking sound is loud as all hell. Personally, I like the HD pack, but the sound design is kinda poor.

Can someone explain to me what the marines are doing with Gordon at the end, because I thought after he talked to gman at the end he was put into stasis?
In the Half-Life chapter Apprehension, Gordon gets knocked out by the HECU and gets dragged into a trash compactor. You witness that cutscene in Blue Shift.
Blue Shift happens around the time Gordon is going through Blast Pit, On A Rail and Apprehension in Half-Life, not while he's in Xen. The scene you see as Barney happens at the end of Apprehension, when 2 HECU marines knock Gordon out and throw him in a trash compactor, leading him to the Biodome Complex.

When moving away from the observer, the apparent frequency of the sound / light is lower. This makes the sound lower-pitched or redshifts the light.
Fun fact: In Dec 2016 Joel's band Scythelord released Toxic Minds, which includes a song titled Red Shift.
