I’ve been a reseller for 6 years. This past year has been so bad I’m just clearing out my inventory for cash at a small loss and starting from scratch
The cable news outlets keep telling us were in a bad economy and people are believing it.
As soon as the election is over they'll start reporting to the economy accurately again and this crap should be behind us.
I've bought those multiple-disc CD players before and a couple times there were loose CDs inside. Nothing holds the CDs down in most of them so if for some reason you pick it up and move it around a lot, they slide off. It's like a birthday present...unscrewing the top and seeing what CDs are inside!
Yes, ive had it for a little over a week. Only had a fever for the first 2 days, then just head and chest cold since. I cant remember the last time ive been this sick.
January 2024 has been very strong with items I've discounted. People do want deals, so if you can offer deals, you'll move inventory.
Heath kits were sold at RadioShack back in the 1970s. I had one. It was great.
Pawn shops can be a reality check... I had a echo 16in chainsaw with a addtional case and all paper work which sell online new for $550. Knowing how pawn shops work i wanted $225 for it and we could work it down to a deal. Great thing for me it didnt take alot of back and forth bartering to get some money in my pocket and on my way. Now just trying to figure out what i want to do with this $40 dollars 😮😢....

Either you should have kept it and sold it on the internet (it does you no harm sitting in your basement untio it sells) OR you should have GIVEN it to a charity shop.

Glad you're starting to feel better. We had a lot of what you described here in New York as well with people getting sick twice within a short time. Hopefully when spring gets here the sickness will go away with winter.
Here in Canada a lot of people I know selling their toy collections etc because they need money, but no one is buying
simple answer inflation. ebay and collectibles are a luxury. people will come back once it better.

Exactly what you got. I had about 2 months ago. You get so sick start feeling better and then wham it hits you again.
Be careful because it will linger. For the most part you will feel run down no energy. No antibiotics are out there
from what the doctor told me. Rest a lot and drink plenty of water. Another thing one gets it the rest of you

Peter just to let you know that I and my husband have watching your videos for a little while. I agree with you thoughts about reselling this year. I just heard that UPS is cutting 12,000 jobs. And USPS takes so long anymore. I know we are planning on cutting back our spending because we just don't want to deal with all the shipping issues that are going to come down the pipe line. Of course as you said the high cost of living is a issue too.

1000% right Pete. People aren’t spending $ right now. I been selling sneakers for 4-5 years now, and sports cards for 3-4. No one is spending $ right now. Weird how the government is saying funds are good cuz I’m not seeing it
Most government statistics are lies. Don't listen to them. Use your own experiences to gauge how the economy is doing, i.e. keep an eye on the price of food, gasoline, and basic services

12:36 I love Morgan silver dollars too for their whole design aesthetic. I bought one dated 1883 (I think) during a coin sale at the 5-star Roxburghe Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland of all places back in 1996 for GBP 17 or about $35 Canadian ($26 U.S.) and it was in fantastic condition with very crisp images. I'm not sure where it was minted, but I should check it.
I also bought a few ancient Roman coins at that same coin sale including one featuring Claudius Caesar on one side for GBP 36 or $72 Canadian ($54 U.S.). :)

Well as I'm watching this I am recovering from an illness that sounded just like you.I got sick for about a week with a fever and coughing...felt better for about 4 days and now been down for about a week.
Ebay has gotten so slow and they are so 1 sided and have too many BS algorithms and being top seller bs. F them

Sorry to hear you were so sick but good to see you are well now. Don't write off sewing machines completely. People will buy broken ones to repair themselves or for parts, esp the more intricate stitching patterns it has. But also if ever come across industrial or leather working ones, def worth a look. And the obvious one, NIB. Just my 2 cents. Have a good one!
I'd like to add to that. I sold 5 professional machines the last 18 months from my Aunt's estate and it was a nightmare. Of course brand and model dictate a starting price, but I quickly learned the sewing community lives, dies, and fears "discontinuation of support" for machines. I'm a car guy in my 40s and it's parallel to the sad warranties provided nowadays. I know nothing about a stitch, but apparently there's a racket where machine companies purposely stop supporting machines that are barely late models, so if something goes wrong they won't help at all and you're stuck finding a rare local repair who is stupid expensive because who tf repairs sewing machines, they can name their price.
Several machines went for way less than speculated value simply because they were discontinued by the brand. Check any model's existing support before buying it, the word "discontinued" has the customers running away from it if it's not priced @ 30% of listed value.

We have similar economic conditions in Australia and I think you are correct selling across the board including new is slowing down. The upside is a lot of technology hardware is selling at reduced prices, big brand name equipment and components, 50 - 70% reduction. One can still find these reduced items being sold at their original high price, largely confirming the reductions are real, plus many include express shipping for free. I guess the online computer stores are wanting to reduce their stock holdings and improve their cash flow/balance. Maybe not just in anticipation of poor retail sales but to be cashed up to buy at possible low prices from distributors and manufacturers forced to drop their prices. The one good sector of the market is the baby boomers who have retired with substantial superannuation, savings and own their own home.
I can't even buy... so not a good time for resellers...everyone is holding onto stuff not being so quick to sell too in my area... if there's anything out there they sell full price themselves... pinching every penny!!! Not frugal with their belongings. Getting BAD... I love my antique booth etc too but a job is looking better. It's been dead except 1mo in Dec. For 6 months plus.....

Albany cases are going up & up if I get sick it would most likely be a death sentence cause I have diabetes high blood pressure & had a heart attack in 2021 2 stents put in so very bad heart I'm praying i don't get sick

There's something going around.... both my husband and myself have been sick and now we just have a cough but it's been over 30 days for each of us. Whatever this is, it hits really hard! It's not an average cold or flu. It's strange.

Just starting to feel a little better also after fighting the flu for about 2 weeks now, and just had to bury my grandfather in Davis Illinois yesterday, I have been super depressed with everything going on and haven't really been myself. Just stumbled on your channel by accident but it is definitely helping me get through this tough time, thank you. I will definitely have to come visit when I am feeling better and have some more free time. Hope you feel better soon also and keep making these videos as they are entertaining for sure.
I always keep "money in the bank" I don't mean literally, I only keep a small savings and checking account, just a few thousand dollars. I save gold, silver, coins, and i have been stacking those for 15+ years. Even if I ran out of money tomorrow, i have 100k in my safe so i always have money saved.
The guitar/musical instrument is tough right now too

Every disadvantage, has its advantage. Making good profit is: buy low, sell high. It's like the stockmarket: buy the shares at a low rate and sell them high.
Keep in mind Pete sells mostly high dollar value items, mostly expensive and new in box items (online). Maybe people aren’t buying expensive items or buying used rather than new. The market expended by 24% last year. My eBay business had sales increase by 30%, I sell items on average between $20 and $50, or “small peanuts” as Pete would say. Anytime is a good time to get into reselling, it won’t be rough or tough at all the year coming up, unless you sell like Pete does.

With all the pandemic savings used up, a large part of the population is really hurting, however the more affluent are still spending like crazy. I was just at a mall in Lynwood, Washington the other day and I could barely find a parking place this Saturday. People were dining and their hands filled with shopping bags. I thought the mall was dead but I guess not.
We live in WA, we are bulletproof from any economic struggle the rest of the country typically receives. Our billionaires here keep us full and fed. Ive lived here my whole life. Just about every county in W. WA and have never experiences any struggle. If your a hard worker and have good ethics you will never go hungry here.
COVID savings really? That was never even a thing for most people, and that was 3 years ago? It's all inflation from prices of everything starting from energy to food being driven up while wages stagnate, thanks to good ole Bidenomics and "stand with [insert your favorite proxy] country"

I think I have the bankroll for the downturn, but sadly, I do NOT have the storage space and probably shouldn't resort to storage lockers for myself. I'll have to be very conservative in my extra purchases for resell, but will do OK. Thank you CL for the video.
I know a Chinese seller from Hong Kong he told me people from Europe and the western countries are buying cheap goods for the motortrade knowing it Will fale and hope they can move on to another garage to get it done there, Chinese goods aren't bad it the garage owners trying to make a quick buck and ride through it,its just gready car shops blaming Chinese goods its not fair blaming one country for bad and gready manager's and corrupt mechanics to do job knowing it will fail 👍🏻.

That Machine is most likely off time... so the sewing gets rather all clumped up, it jams a lot, or it does hit and miss stitches. It would need to be taken to someone who professional does maintenance on those machines. That is around a $75 range... so yeah.. not worth the repair because if you did, you would need to ad the repair into the price. WHat you go do it put it up for sale as a repair needed piece... you could get around $25 to $40 for it.

Since the end of last year, the main reason I’m more hesitant to buy a “want” (verses a need) is preparing for my school loans to start back. I think school loans have slowed down a lot of people and the economy.
What's a school loan
ANY and ALL loans have slowed down the economy. When you can no longer afford to live ABOVE your income level, life gets tough.
Solution: Stop taking out loans and living off credit.
Everybody knows that but very few actually apply that logic.

My sales are abysmal now they're decline for some time now. I have over 11k items on ebay. Promoted listing and list constantly. Items just aren't flying off the shelves like they used to. I do understand the economy can be partially blamed but something else is going on as well...
No one ever has money after Christmas, it happens every year. Have you forgotten how much people spend? It takes months for them to pay their credit cards back. I, myself don't put gifts on credit cards, I pay with cash so I'm not crippled with debt AFTER the holidays.

I sell sergers on ebay, parts ownly all the time and make decent money. I bought a pallet of them from a vocational school that had upgraded and didn't bother testing them, just put them one by one for $100, parts only.
I have had a cough since just before xmas... and just when I think it is gone, it comes back. Not Covid because I have tested myself 6 times over the past 5 weeks.

The buying has already started. I have an awesome amount of inventory, and have stopped buying for now mainly because all my storage areas are full. Uncertain economy, election year, and looming wars always create this opportunity. I'm on the west coast, where inflation is way over the top compared to most states. At some point it has to break to even everything out. We're on the pinnacle of that now. It's all a big game, and I enjoy every moment of it.😁
