You’re right about things being mass-produced. They don’t have as much value because they’re not rare. I have learned that from years of watching the antique roadshow. I grew up in the era of KISS. I cannot name a single one of their songs and the only member I know is Gene Simmons. But I can tell you the name of several Beatles or Rolling Stones songs and not even a fan.
I actually truly believed that guy knew what he was talking about and he seemed very trustworthy.. usually you can tell pretty fast when someone is trying to screw you over or someone that is just fake and i know some ppl are good at hiding it and can seem way more real then they r but i did not get that with this guy.. i mean going from 7k to 5k is a big difference, its not like he came down just a little but hey ending up getting it done at 3500.. love this channel tho, ur a good guy
if your barometer for determining if someone is honest and trustworthy is derived from whether or not a stranger trying to sell you something sounds knowledgeable..you are the perfect mark. "believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see." the best con artists will make you believe they're honest and trustworthy while they rob you completely blind. i'm not saying this guy is a scammer, but just because he talked a good game and put on a good show (which is debatable, since pretty much everything he had pete lookup came back selling for a fraction of what he claimed) doesn't mean he can be trusted. at the end of the day, he has a vested interest (and financial gain) in unloading his wares for as much money as possible. clearly he is a solid salesman. but both he and pete knew damn well that stuff wasn't worth 15k. hence why the guy shook hands on $3500 and pete walked away with the whole lot
3500 is what he caved for. lol i know that guy was trying to just get rid of his shit to pete. KISS collectible are not even selling at all on 2nd markets. I wish pete would of said no to this deal something doesnt seem right about it

I never knew that KISS stuff was so collectable. I grew up in that time and KISS just wasn't my thing, but it was very interesting to see that those KISS people are still around and collecting! Thank you for a very informative video!
@thetruepatriot7733 Yeah, but for kiss, the people that collect are getting less and less by the day. Either getting toi old for it or not around anymore.
@@davidrinehart5924 You could say that about any genre of collectibles at some point, that it's aging fan base is dying. I am personally not a huge Kiss fan, but I am old enough to remember them being HUGE growing up and I am not even 50 years old yet. There will be Kiss fans around for a long time. That said, I don't doubt it's collectible, but I don't think it's anywhere near what the value the seller is claiming.
It`s mostly the 70s and early 80s merch that sells for a lot of money. The period between 1981 and 1983 is also pretty collectable. Vinnie Vincent stuff is the new thing.
So like alot of 'collectibles' this guy spends his whole life buying this stuff and colleting and in the end he 'loses' $10,500 of the value that he thought they wore worth, because he needed cash that minute instead of selling them over a month or so on Ebay? I know its why people sell things at pawn shops to begin with, but still a little strange.

I don't like it because it turns into who has the most money not who actually won it. Like sneaker raffles and concert tickets. You now have to buy your place on line....it's just so sketchy. The stuff just sold at shows I like ❤
Not a red flag, its a guy who needs cash quickly else he would not be selling his collection he spent decades building, eBay takes a lot of work and time but over that time you will make a lot more money, however if you are in need of some quick cash you go to shops like these, else this type of business wouldn't exist. Pete him self always states he aims to double his money, with that knowledge customers would go home and sell it on eBay for twice as much, but they don't because it requires time and effort at a time when they need cash right now for bills or what ever.
@@seriousorganizer This guy needed $$ quick. He is a serious collector. I sell on e-bay and things can sit for months if not years for specific niche items.
As a pawnbroker for 8 years, and a 30 year KISS fan, this one had me rolling. I mean I don't know if I would've been able to pay out $3500 for those belt buckles. While they were probably worth it, its hard to know if its original 70s first time runs or reprints/reproductions. That would be my major issue with it. Yes collectors will pay big money for this stuff. I personally collect some KISS memorabilia, but am not hard core about it. I collect a lot of different things, most of my KISS stuff is low key like books and posters and photos. So belt buckles, not my area of specialty. KISS put out so much stuff and the original 70s merch can pull some really good money. But the whole interaction to a T was just exactly what I could see happening at my shop. Not having comps for the stuff and having to take the guys word is a hard sell. He really should have done you a favor and just started with one and brought them in one or two at a time over a few months rather than all at once. I mean maybe he needed it all ASAP I guess, but that is something I would have sold out online myself rather than bring them to a resale shop. But yeah as a KISS fan and pawn broker that would have been a very difficult negotiation for sure.
Ha, he doesnt want to knock 20 percent off and flog em to collectors; he's just gonna do you a big favour and sell em for half price. Maybe he wants to get out of dodge before the senile relative or whoever he borrowed them from twigs and calls the cops.
"that one is the rarest out of all of them" "that one is the rarest out of all of them" lol if you say that two times, they negate themselves. huge red flags
I'm only half-way through the video, but can't help but notice that....according to the SELLER.....all the same/similar items listed on Ebay/etc. are standard ones worth $35 and all his items are "special/rare" ones worth $800. Call me skeptical, but I'd be leery.
I got excited that you might have an FFL as well but then saw the orange muzzles and realized that was all airsoft and BB stuff. Still an awesome shop I would definitely check out if I lived there.
Consignment is perfect for mitigating risk, and most importantly it protects you (the business owner) from taking a bit hit. And 50/50 on consignment is also a really great deal for the seller... it's the business owner spending the money on employees taking pictures and setting it up to sell online (among other expenses); Pretty generous indeed.
if you pay someone to take pictures of stuff, you're doing it wrong. I surprised you didn't throw time into the equation. as it is I'm typing up this rebuttal while I'm sitting on the toilet. boomer ways of thinking are dead. technology makes things EASYER. @@NutzBdragon It does take time and money to do research and to take good pictures, sure some items are an easy few pictures and you post it, others not so much, some items just don't photograph well...
The Baseball Card and Comic speculator markets of the 90s taught me anything made with the specific intent to be collectible and appreciate in value is worthless inside 10 years.
@@ptshyu2 Yeah those were some bad years but it's even worse now because all the products are severely overpriced and what these collectors call "hits" are guaranteed 2 or 3 per box. So it's not a "hit" if it's guaranteed. Back in the day it was a hit because it was 1 in 100 packs for an insert and even more rare to find an auto. The hobby is just for the rich people now.
When he said 14k meaning he wanted 7k, I would've ran a mile. Spending that sort of money there can be no doubts. The bloke was one of those sorts that pulls price/s right out of his arse.
Kiss items still sell around here but they sell very slowly now. 10 years ago we could get 100 times what we get now. ⚠️🤔 The prices have dropped drastically and the interest just isn't there anymore.

I never new that that type of Kiss item is worth that kind of money. I have had Kiss items I sold and did ok. I will be on the look out for these belt buckles for sure. Nice score Pete!
I would have never bought it. Just way too specific of a market to spend money on. Literally just me thinking about anyone wearing a fucking Kiss belt buckle makes me laugh.
In 72 Gene Simmons was influenced by this remarkable UK band Slade. They listened to Slade Alive and were impressed by Dave Hills futuristic clothes but especially his platform boots. In 73 Kiss were formed. Kiss were also influenced by Alice Cooper. In a way certainly of their amazing stage outfit's, Kiss were the end product.
I just found your channel and enjoy your content. You seem like a nice guy who runs an honest business. I sure hope you recoup your $3500 on this transaction! If they were worth what he was claiming, it was in his best interest to list and sell them individually, which makes me skeptical. Good luck!

Good for Pete for not giving in on something he wasn’t sure about. It’s telling that the guy took $3,500 for them instead of just listing them on EBay himself and getting what he was saying Pete could get. Pete handled that guy masterfully.
Thats not really how it works lol if that was the case why would most ppl just not do that??? Lol if they did, then yea they can make more money but then you have to put all the extra work in… you have to wait around and a bunch of other things lol especially for ppl that need the money right away… so what u said makes no sense at all.. these type of businesses would not even be around, if everyone thought the way u did… idk i can sense ppl really well and see who is fake and untrustworthy and I actually believed this guy
Personally, I don't wonder- he probably tried to sell a couple and no one wanted to pay his price. He's probably on every social media forum dedicated to Kiss from FB to Reddit and no one wants to pay what he thinks they are worth.
The right thing to do here was to pay him 3500 + 100 or 200 for him giving you all the exact item details which are part of the future selling price and item description. The poor guy sold all his collection giving him a bit more for his knowledge I'm sure would have lifted him up a bit.
I think this is the only time I've ever seen Pete pay too much for anything! I think it is going to take years to recoup that kind of money for this stuff! If it was really worth what the guy was saying he would have sold it himself. He probably already had it listed on Ebay and saw that there just aren't any buyers who are willing to pay that much for this stuff!
I agree, it's going to take a while and I don't think he's going to make a killing. I can't speak for everyone, I just don't find a belt buckle all that exciting- unless maybe it was actually worn by someone in the band, etc. As some people mentioned in other comments here, I think he's already knows collectors and in been in collector forums and realized no one wants to pay what he thinks they should be going for.
I was so hoping Pete was going to walk away on this one cause he seemed like he was gonna be real butt hurt that he couldn’t sell his Kiss belt buckles 😂
LOL @ trying to justify KISS variants. This is Gene's "belt size after a bad Chinese meal" Kosovo buckle, but in blue! This one is Paul's "2pm Tea Break with the King of Norway" Austrian buckle.
In the antiques game they used to say, 'never buy porceline off a porceline dealer because they know what they've got'. Also, if you don't know much about what your buying, buy it cheap.. Both these things apply on this deal... I wouldn't have touched them..
22:47 they leave together notice how they all had their hands in their pockets. That’s a sign of nervousness. Nor did they make eye contact with you because you were distracted. To make matters worse none of your employees thanked them for stopping by and check on them. Easy robbery for the thieves.

I grew up in the era of KISS. I cannot name a single one of their songs and the only member I know is Gene Simmons. But I can tell you the name of several Beatles or Rolling Stones songs and not even a fan.
Your name has me dying 🤣

@@jamnbryan1 Lmao he didn't talk a good game, he's a pretty terrible salesman actually, which played to his advantage somehow.
If that was Prince memorabilia I would have been on Ebay instantly 😆 so interesting that, loved it 👌
He went from total value of $14,000 willing to accept $8,000 , now willing to accept $4,000, something's not right here😮😮😮😮😅😅😅😅😅 he tried so hard😊
3500 is what he caved for. lol i know that guy was trying to just get rid of his shit to pete. KISS collectible are not even selling at all on 2nd markets. I wish pete would of said no to this deal something doesnt seem right about it
Nothing shady here. He just needed some money fast. Yes, he over priced it by 15-20% but thats what you do. He knows Peter is a slick business man ;)

I don't like Kiss. I don't like belt buckles. I do not go into pawn shops. Yet I watched and enjoyed the video and will continue to watch and enjoy many more.
I would imagine the group of KISS collectors is dwindling over time
Exactly my man...KISS have a very loyal following of middle aged men....but their music wont be listened to with future gens,,,Led Zeplin ect yes..because their music transends
It has nothing to do with the band being active. It can actually grow now they are gone. Like when painters die.
100%. The market will be flooded when the middle aged fans need to move it on.
I never knew that KISS stuff was so collectable. I grew up in that time and KISS just wasn't my thing, but it was very interesting to see that those KISS people are still around and collecting! Thank you for a very informative video!
Its extremely collectable...probably the top 3 most collectable music memorabilia from that era. Kiss is up there with the Beatles.
That said, I don't doubt it's collectible, but I don't think it's anywhere near what the value the seller is claiming.
probably because he releases new stuff to sell everyday hahaha@@davidrinehart5924
Another FUN great little video. Ways To Improve: Show items right away, and show entire groups of items. You need a camera above to shoot the counter so we can see what yall are doing. I am grateful to see a tough biz ran by good people. your true good guy reasonable , your asst is cool and calm and …. THAT FLUFFYASS CAT !!! Seriously tho think about it. Ceiling cam to counter, and show the goods immediately. You’re welcome. 😂.
Great channel !!!! I can go garage hunting from my home AND not spend money, plus I learn cool stuff. Again great attitude and kindness.
I don't even like kiss but this is interesting. As far as collectibles, I think other artists should do stuff like this now. Limited runs of stuff
I don't like it because it turns into who has the most money not who actually won it. Like sneaker raffles and concert tickets. You now have to buy your place on line....it's just so sketchy. The stuff just sold at shows I like ❤
They were sold at concerts... So I'm thinking a couple of thousand for sale at each concert. That's a LOT of buckles!!!
He might get close to what he paid, for the Ki$$ stuff. Just way too much $$$ for mass produced memorabilia!
Pete got his money back after only selling 10 of them ($4900).
I will give you ten bucks apiece...long live Rock and Roll. God Bless.
Yeah id pass if it was so easy to list on ebay why would he discount 50% when he could sell it himself for 14000.?
Probably need cash money. I seen some weird kiss memorabilia like signed concert photos. Sell on pawn stars for litterally 55k.
This was way too risky. I’d imagine Pete lost big on this.
Wrong. I think he will double it if not triple. He read the seller very quickly as someone who needed cash fast.
@@haraldsletterod based on what? I looked up eBay comps and they weren't good.
Pete needs to let the cat decide next time….😂
Yep honey was watching--she's security cat.
Probably just ended up with Peter Criss stuff only
"you can get $14K" but continued to take $3500. Hmmmmm...🤔
Big red flag for me was when Pete offered to list them on ebay and split them 50/50 the guy was like NOOOO gimme the cash!
@@Masher8559 ...he said he had all day.....

I've been a pawn shop owner for 26 years and you're wrong. There was 12k worth of product there
@@maccusmc What am I "wrong" about?
@@Imajica69 exactly
@@maccusmc There is a reason he is bringing to this shop instead of selling them himself?
Ha, he doesnt want to knock 20 percent off and flog em to collectors; he's just gonna do you a big favour and sell em for half price. Maybe he wants to get out of dodge before the senile relative or whoever he borrowed them from twigs and calls the cops.
"that one is the rarest out of all of them"
"that one is the rarest out of all of them"
lol if you say that two times, they negate themselves. huge red flags
Haha the cat laying there so close is so funny and cool.
Why doesn't he sell them himself?
You're still thinking as you take a pic on a camera then you need to take the sd card out and upload it to the computer and edit them. those times have gone. when someone tells me "it takes time and money" I know they are old school bsers.

You might want to look up some of the cards if you still have them..some 90s inserts are pretty valuable.
@@jakestoe late 80s to early/mid 90s are the junk years for baseball over produced to make it worth anything

Kiss collectibles = Beanie Babies
Not really Beanie babies was a passing fad aimed towards kids and moms. Kiss is action figures and music related.

Kiss merch is so tricky. The collectors have to be dying off no...??
I agree most hard core KISS fans are now 60+
The majority of them just grew out of their teens. Clown makeup and "rebel rock". Most 70 year old people are kinda over their rebellious stage.
I never new that that type of Kiss item is worth that kind of money. I have had Kiss items I sold and did ok. I will be on the look out for these belt buckles for sure. Nice score Pete!
Today I learned KISS fans unlike today’s Rap fans wore belts.
I hope you did alright on those belt buckles. I would be too scared to make that deal on such a niche item.
I would have never bought it. Just way too specific of a market to spend money on. Literally just me thinking about anyone wearing a fucking Kiss belt buckle makes me laugh.
These buckles are not that rare! What is rare is anyone that would get caught wearing one!!! LOL
LMFAO!
he knew his stuff, i think Pete will do well! I love these collector experts.
No Straight Jacket, though I bet
You should list them for him and take 25% and no money invested
Well in looking at the Ebay store, I guess you figured it all out. Amazing collection and again a great video.
The guy said he'll help him....

He still got screwed pal. He'll never make that kind of money back.😅😅😅😂😂😂😢😢

Thats not really how it works lol if that was the case why would most ppl just not do that??? Always go with you gut feeling . Makes you wonder why he wouldn’t sell them himself on eBay ???
Great negotiation- both parties were reluctantly happy in the end
The dude probably has them on eBay and he's not selling any. Probably why he came to Pete to get rid of his eBay merchandise
Funny if the prices they were seeing online were actually the customers eBay account..😂
Watching honeys reaction to the negotiations reminds me of Monty pythons cat confusers.
I was so hoping Pete was going to walk away on this one cause he seemed like he was gonna be real butt hurt that he couldn’t sell his Kiss belt buckles 😂

Pete got his money back after only selling 10 of them ($4900).
In the antiques game they used to say, 'never buy porceline off a porceline dealer because they know what they've got'. Also, if you don't know much about what your buying, buy it cheap.. Both these things apply on this deal... I wouldn't have touched them..

Maybe Peter's store wasn't the best option for him? Peter should do really well with the buckles plus he got the guy's expertise on the items for free. Thats prob worth more than anyone realizes.
