I dont have a great life but I realized what I was doing and stopped being rude. I hope the guy can get help and realize he is just using his pain to give others pain for no reason.
I don't know if it's just trolls. Trolls are people who don't necessarily believe what they say, but just like to cause trouble. While i would never do the things he says people emailed him about, i can at least understand people being upset. As a reseller who specializes in video games, his employee had to know that those games had some value.
Even if the sealed games were only worth $30 each, giving the seller only $50 for EVERYTHING was way too low, and i think, dishonest. I know, some will say that that was what the seller asked for, so it's morally right. My morality is different, i guess. I would have made a guess at the true value (maybe look a couple games up on ebay for reference), then offered him 50% of that number.
So, no, of course he should not have gotten death threats and hate. But i think criticism is fair. Would he have decided to give the original seller a cut of the larger profits, had he not gotten all the hate? I have no idea. Probably not, since he edited and posted the original video, thinking the behavior in it was ok. In other videos, i've seen him being honest though, so maybe. The point is, his employee really did screw that seller.

As a small business owner for over 25 years, I always thought you paid too much for items. Non business people don't truly understand the costs associated with running any business. You seem to go out of your way to help sellers get something for their items. Your honest dealings are beyond reproach. God Bless You!

Hey Pete, it sucks you have to deal with that stuff. I haven't been watching you all that long but ever since I have I always felt you were honest and upfront with people, that's what made me continue to watch. You seem like a really honest and upfront guy, hope things get better.
Pete, we know pawn shops typically only offer 10-30% of retail value, you typically offer 40-50%. We also know you are a business, not a charity. You also take risk, electronics can fail, items could be counterfeit, etc. Any hate is usually coming from young, ignorant people who don't know business. 99% of your viewers, like me, got your back 🙂

The problem with internet hate is that the small bits of hate will always overshadow the large amounts of love poured in. I would hope most people feel you are a genuine & caring person because you've proven it over and over again.

I just started watching in the last week or so and I have been “catching up” as much as I can. I keep watching because it is the most authentic, genuine channel I have seen. It breaks my heart that you had such an awful experience and I completely understand your shock and concern after this type of personal attack. I am so sorry this happened to you and I pray that you are able to put this behind you and continue with the great videos that I’ve been watching. I so completely and thoroughly enjoy watching because it’s so real. Your channel is the most REAL I have seen. (I mean even the Iranian Nomads are putting fake drama in their videos) when people, me at least, want to see authenticity and genuine real life. Some people just have too much anger. How do you figure that this person is “hateful” and “only wants to cause pain to others” when his primary concern was the guy getting ripped off? He went about it in a terrible way, but clearly he was upset by what he perceived as someone being taken advantage of. That is antithetical to the type of person you’re describing.

A lot of SJWs just look for that little tiny pathetic spark to suddenly barrage someone with a bunch of hatred while masquerading as some moral paragon of society. @@dwsweettea63 -- Why is criticism passed off as simply trolls? And "professional trolls?" That would mean they get paid, and who would pay a guy to harass a reseller shop? Nonsense. Those people were vociferous about their opinions, and many took it waaaay too far, but they are not trolls. They were genuinely pissed.
And while i think much of their behavior is wrong. i can understand people being upset. We all operate on different moralities. For some, "You paid what the guy asked for," is perfectly moral. It's not for me. I would always want to pay a decent portion of the value, or at least give them a fair assessment of the value, and how much of it i am offering. Whether it's 25% or 50%, i would still want to be upfront about it all.
His employee may not have known a game would sell for 1K, but he definitely knew those sealed ones had some decent value. Games are their specialty. And if it's morally justified to you because "that's what they asked for," then good for you. I just wouldn't feel like a good person doing that, without the guy knowing that there is potentially a lot of money in the games.

What a lot of people who aren’t in this business don’t understand are the additional costs of running as reselling business, such as storage space, shipping supplies, returns, taxes, advertising, scams, broken items, etc, etc, etc.
Great video. More power to you for running a RUclips channel highlighting the business - I would never do it, for this reason.

I was thrilled to learn this store is only 45 mins north of me. I love the honesty, the demeanor, the calm & fair way he makes a deal and anyone who doesnt understand how these stores have to work to stay in business, i implore them to read, watch, and understand before saying anything. If someone is just pushing dollars, they're out of business. This place is very very VERY fair and honest. I can imagine the hours and hours it takes to make it work and im a fan. Glad i found this channel, this store and cant wait to visit.

I've followed your channel for a few years now and I'm a reseller myself. I've always felt that watching your videos that you're putting yourself out there. Personally I couldn't do it, it's just not my cup of tea. I've always felt you're more than fair with customers. Keep up what you're doing and try not to let hate get you down. That's only giving the hater more power over you.

I’ll admit, when the customer asked for $50, I was like “I want that deal!” I’m a picker and I need a home run every once in a while. It’s a grind and those kinds of deals are what keep me going. Kinda like playing the lottery?
Anyway, there are endless channels on this platform glorifying buying low and selling high…retail, garage sales, real estate, cars, stock…It’s called business. It’s not like your guy lowballed the customer. The seller set the price. Yes, maybe ethically he could’ve said something, but he also sees the many times where the company loses out on what he buys. Is the “angry mob” upset when he OVERPAYS for an item(s)? When it sits on the shelf for over a year and never sells?

I saw a hate video by some clown talking about how in his opinion you got the best of a customer but every comment on his page had 100% full support for you and everyone that commented about him trashed him and told him he was pathetic..So don't sweat these trolls Pete..These trolls forget that the sellers come to you because they don't want to do the work selling stuff on Ebay..they want the easy sell and they always have the last say anyway and could easily say no thanks and walk out the door..Your not in the business to make friends..its to make money..With the cost of electricity..maintenance..employees..insurance and everything else it takes to even run a business it's not that easy..it all boils down to jealousy and envy and these trolls carry a heavy load ..We support you sir..i have not seen you force anyone to sell you anything..good luck to you and your family and those selling always have that option to say No thank you ...

I have been a picker for 20 years now, you are an inspiration to those of us who do what we do. You are more than fair to people, and a gentlemen. I was just telling my fiancé that when we go to Chicago we are going to visit. It is not your job to negotiate against yourself. You are more transparent than most of us... you go right on the computer and show people what their stuff is worth, and give them a breakdown. Trolls on the internet live for baiting people into arguments... just don't engage.. Judge by the number people who send you gifts, post cards and love... Don't doubt yourself. Finally, I happen to be a practicing attorney... to sellers.... you have ever right to do your own research before you sell something to a picker.

I found your channel a couple weeks ago and love watching. I don’t understand hate- in every transaction you set your price and customer has a choice. It sounds like you have trolls. They show up in many groups including spiritual groups. Haters. I never once felt you scammed. You research, offer price or say your not interested. I love your personality, I admire your experience/wisdom and can catch a scam pretty quick. I love your pets who seem very content and loved. Your co workers seem to be awesome as well. Don’t let haters hurt you. Unfortunately, they are everywhere and make it their mission to hurt others because they are unhappy within. Don’t ever feel you need to defend yourself. As a fellow RUclipsr, we have had several events like this. Our rule is as follows… if the comment is not constructive, it is removed. If it evil, it is reported. Haters will always be present. When you give up on one video, they win.

It’s the seller’s responsibility to make sure they do research on items before selling them. If they are satisfied with the amount they are getting, it’s a fair deal. You’re a business who has more expenses than just buying inventory for your shop, and you need to make profit to cover all those expenses. Don’t let people bring you down for earning money for you and your family.
This would be true for a regular pawn shop, but it’s somewhat less true for one with a large RUclips following and an eBay store.
No it's still true. There's a reason that guy only asked for $50. If he paid for the games he knows how much he paid for them.

The legal definition of fair market value is what an able buyer is willing to pay an an accepting seller - when Pete offers (and has the cash in hand) he’s an able buyer expressing what he’s willing to pay, when the seller accepts = fair market value. Everything else is just speculation. Pete is able to maximize value due to how he setup his business. Whether or not that process is recorded makes no difference.

I wonder if these people would complain if you made a loss on your sale. Would they insist the person you bought it from give you some money back? No! You'd be expected to bear that loss as it was at your own risk. Just like a seller bears the same risk when selling to you.

Guy could have put his stuff on eBay himself. With you he does no work, no research, no photos and descriptions, gets instant cash, no wrapping and posting, no lost parcel issues and no hassles from the buyers. In addition he came to you, you didn't knock on his door. You've done the work to put yourself in the position to buy and sell and to make a profit. People are just jealous.

If I buy a $1 item at a yard sale and sell it for $100, I don't go back to the sale and pay them more! Sometimes you lose money and sometimes you hit the jackpot. No shame in that, reselling is always a gamble.
Terrible analogy. The garage sale has a listed price. People come into Petes shop to get a fair price. Not to be given less than 5% of what’s worth. Even Pete claims 50% is fair. The poor guy got $50 and they made $2,400 & counting and that’s not even including the console. He rightly got called out by many and now is trying to do damage control and deleted the video. Playing the victim card and you guys are iust eating it all up. Just because Pete has some cute pets doesn’t make it right.

A week ago, I bought a vintage Singer Sewing Machine model 66 redeye meant condition including the booklet for 300 bucks I was so happy this is for my dad he is a tailor and had worked so hard for his whole life to feed the family. This machine's age is as the same as my dad's if he still alive today. I couldn't believe how people keep these items so perfect for so many years. Agreed. I also see a lot of similar deals made with large profit margins on other reseller channels here on You Tube but you won't find the same negativity in the comments that you find here. As a buyer, I'm looking to pay as little as possible for an item. As a seller, I'm looking to get as much as I can reasonably expect for an item. On either end of that transaction, it's up to each party to do his or her research prior to completing the deal. It may sound harsh but that's the truth. The fact that Steve is reaching out to the buyer to give him more money at this point is nothing but a nice gesture on his part.

Pete, I rarely comment on videos here, but I have been following your channel for a long time, and have always found you to be a very decent man. I have seen you offer people more than they were asking when the item was worth more. In this instance the seller got his asking price so that should really have been the end of it - as he walked away with what he wanted. There will always be haters, people who hide behind the anonymity of the internet and badmouth others - sometimes just for the heck of it, but occasionally with justification - but I have always found you to be fair and decent, and, at the end of the day, you do have to make a living - and, as they saying goes, "some you win, some you lose"! If the hate mail gets personal you should report it to the authorities, but please keep doing what you are doing, and your loyal followers will continue to enjoy your content. Be strong!

what those people don't understand is that the ENTIRE POINT is to make money. You always start off every negotiation with "what do you want to get out of this?" I've always thought that was way too generous of a way to open negotiations, but figured if that's your style, go for it.
the way I see it, if you happen to make a deal that's particularly to your advantage, then that's a win for you, and not some kind of "theft." EVERY... LAST... ONE of us knows that if we go to a garage sale and find.. I don't know, a Rolex for $1, every last one of us is going to hold our breath and go buy it, hope no one notices, and then go sell it. NONE of us are going to go up to the person running the garage sale and say, "actually, I want to give you way more than what you're asking for it."

UK reseller here, I found your videos a year ago when I was bed bound for a month after surgery. I caught up with everything from the start over the next few months while I was off work recovering and always look forward to new content. I can honestly say that you are a fair businessman. I am a part time reseller, I started 20 years ago when I returned to education and needed an income to keep my family while i studied and I understand that there must be a profit if you want to survive but you can always be fair, which you are and many people are not. Ignore the idiots, they are jealous of a successful man with a happy life and a happy family. Keep doing what you are doing!

@@bertadelaudebri7179 Unfortunately, I think it's much harder to do that when your channel involves a physical and readily-available public location. He was right about the snowball effect of one person commenting a bunch of potentially criminal messages. One person becomes a hundred overnight. Removing the videos and addressing the issue was absolutely the best call here.
For his own safety and that of his family, keeping an eye on the comments and messages is an unfortunate necessity.

Negative comments weigh so much more than positive comments for some reason, they're very hard to shake off.
You do what you gotta do for your mental health, but remember that there are far, FAR more positive people that love, LOVE your content and you! Pete , first and foremost , it's YOUR business , not ours , not anyone elses . You pay the rent and you pay the wages . One really good profit makes-up for all the stuff that sits for months without selling or the stuff that doesn't sell at all .
