Man I've been reselling for a long time and watching so many different RUclips resellers, and I've learned more in 2 of your videos than most of the others combined. Keep it up, love your stuff!
I use calculated and if it’s wacky off I send some money back ( my customers love this ). I even mention this in my listings when higher shipping cost type items. Get many rave reviews from this. I do not pass the discount as helps offset the fees and shipping materials costs and labor costs. I grew 41% this year in profit, sales, number of sales etc. I sell vintage housewares and collectibles exclusively. I also do not accept returns which is the norm in the antiques world. These things all work very well for me. Customer gets to MAKE A DECISION prior to purchase.
I am grumpy about the shipping change is because there is more to shipping then just shipping there is tape and boxes and bubble wrap thank you cards ect. I never considered it as a profit just away to off set packaging.
I’m grumpy about it also because I feel like this is the fourth major change to shipping since I started 9 months ago. I should be feeling confident about shipping at this point but I feel like my head is spinning around. 🙄
The shipping discount we get doesn't even fully cover the FVF fees eBay charges us on the shipping. Not like the shipping discount (which is just the USPS commercial rate and not something unique to eBay) is some kind of altruistic gesture on eBay's part.
The shipping discount setting has been active on eBay Canada for a while now. I've kept it active and it gave me a lot more US sales. (calculated shipping is really necessary in Canada because the prices fluctuate a lot... it's cheaper so ship to USA than to ship to my neighbor) Only smaller things (less than 0.75'' thick) are ''cheap'' to ship, but even then, there is no tracking.
I live in Michigan so a heavy item like stereo receiver is sometimes over $100 to ship to the west coast.I always use calculated shiiping for big heavy items. This also weeds out the riff raff buyers.
I also did not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or US Territories until recently. A buyer from Hawaii messaged me about an item she wanted and was willing to pay up on the shipping. I agreed and accidentally discovered Ground Advantage covers those locations. It cost me about $5 to ship a 4 x 6 x 8 box weighing 8 oz. from Texas to Honolulu. I was pleasantly shocked and happy to partial refund my buyer who paid $15 in shipping for a very small and light item. I went back and changed my settings to allow shipping to those places. This policy also includes APOs BTW.
Yes, I think there's a misconception that you can't ship Ground Advantage to Hawaii but I live in Hawaii and ship Ground Advantage on almost everything I sell. Around $4.50 from 1-4 oz to anywhere from the West Coast to the East Coast. Sometimes my packages get to their destination just as fast as if I shipped using Priority Mail.
If you are shipping relatively small items through the post office, there is absolutely no reason to not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories or PO boxes. It makes no sense. Ground Advantage is available everywhere, and even still goes by air to Hawaii, Guam, PR etc. (but not Media Mail, which is always sent on a boat).
I ship to Hawaii and Alaska...not reason for them to be left out. I haven't found shipping to be any higher in those states. I ship quite a bit to Hawaii, and I have never had an issue with the price or items arriving on time. In fact, I just shipped something last week and it arrived in two days on Ground Advantage.
@OwO-NateHiggers-OwO that's what people do when they are honest, provide great customer service, and want repeat customers. That alone should make someone follow your store and consider you for future purchases
As for the new shipping policy, I have had much success with doing exactly what eBay plans to do. In settings, you can select to pass on the savings of shipping to the buyer and, for at least a year now, the buyer pays what I pay for shipping. I ship a lot of golf clubs and the shipping costs was astronomical for the buyer but about $12 for me. My sales have definitely increased due to this. I think it is a good idea but maybe not for every item. You have to consider that you might be paying for boxes and packaging as well as fees on shipping. So factor that into your price.
I also consider anything that is at least 2 decades old to be Vintage. It sounds funny to find Y2k stuff and say "vintage" but I bet people in the 80s felt that way about 60s items and so on. Great content broski 🤙🏽
We split duties similar to you. My wife and I thrift together. Items she finds, she lists and packs. Items I find I list and ship. I almost always use calculated shipping. My fear is if I opt out, the eBay algorithm will punish me. So I am opting in. Also if you opt out, your competition (other sellers) who opt in will have better pricing, so I think I will lose sales. Whenever I get a really strange request from a buyer, I'll cancel the sale using buyer requested and then block them. Buyers like this are trouble.
You're selling from fear, keep items rare, prices high and they will keep selling. If you're battling race to the bottom arbitragers then yes you may need calculated.
20 years for vintage is my go-to guideline, too. 🙂 I have had "actual shipping cost" turned on for a long time - stumbled across the setting somewhere around the business policy setup, I think. (Passes the discount along to the customer - like the default will be soon.) Old appliances new in the box are almost always good money - I sold a NIB bagel cutter a couple weeks ago for $75. It was electric and very well-made. My favorite is finding a scrap of gift wrap still taped to the box. 🙂
Today, I figured my ‘watcher’, to be the seller I did a ‘sell similar’ from. I put my item up for $5 less bc it had a flaw. She then took her price down by $10. My question is… are we viewed as watchers on sell similars bc I’m always receiving offers from eBay for simply viewing + doing a ‘sell similar’.
If you view something more than once it acts like you’ve watched the item even when you have not and allows the seller to send you offers. It strange, happens to me all the time. If I’m snooping on someone’s listing and look at it twice or more I always receive an offer from that seller.
Yeah that happens to me alot too. I mean its cool for when ur trying to sell something to someone else. But, the down side is my phone getting blown up with offers from other sellers I was using as price checks.
I always create my listing from a sold listing not an active one. I feel like I'm not coping someone currently selling and I know the listing I am copying has sold. Idk, but doing this I never get offers from sellers.
I had hoped April would pick up for me , but i have had 2 sales this month. I know i'v only had my store for 2 months, but i was hoping that it would pick up faster. I am listing every day, 5 items a day, I make sure the pictures are good and there are a number of pictures for each item and I am trying to price fairly and measuring weighing, (I don't have the room to have a bunch of packaged items sitting around, but I had thought about that) I don't offer free shipping, I am not that comfortable yet.
I know the feeling. I started mine back up 3 weeks ago, after cleaning out my storage building, and was only able to load up on the weekends. Now, I am trying to split it up over MWF to give me time to list other stuff or dig more stuff out. Certain items I am getting plenty of views and a couple of watchers but no sales. I finally found I can link my printify to my eBay, so once I get things listed, I hope that will help.🙏🏻 being out of work sucks not having a consistent paycheck.
the reason those 4xl as well as dymo 450 are so high is because newer dymos like the 5xl and 550 use a drm chip inside labels that make it impossible to use third party labels without majorly moding the printer, its one of the reason when my current 2 450s finally bite the dust ill go back to using zebras, i still use dymo 450 to make my consignment booth labels but all shipping is done with a zebra so that could be why the 4xl you link is so high cause even the 450s got a price bump after they became discontinued for the newer drm lines of printers
I opted out of ebay giving discounted shipping because i accept low offers to help with shipping and the couple bucks i get from the shipping discount is used for materials to ship.
Every mechanic gets a discount on parts. Every customer pays retail. Part of doing business. Sellers need cooperative effort where possible, friendly rivalry when necessary. The Algo seems to be trying to gameify itself, trying to lock us into an addictive treadmill; feeding a seller's treasure hunting fix, gambling fix and screentime fix. Dunno if I'm up for all that.🤔
@@nebulousvoid interesting. I quit gambling about 2 years ago. I stopped buying on auctions because it was to similar to gambling. On ebay I try to source for no more than 2$ and sell cheaper hoping to help people get merchandise for cheap because I buy it cheap and have minimal risk.
Glad to hear it was a bad week on Ebay, I'm just getting started and it was a brutal week. There was also a lot of errors with promotions, so that may explain some of it
Yeah there were a ton of buggy things on eBay this week. Terapeak was down for a while, drafts disappeared temporarily. Not sure what is going on. Thanks for watching :)
Hi Justin, love your vids. I use the calculated shipping and always check what the costs would be for the seller and then pad it a dollar or so just to ensure my shipping costs are covered since I don't pre-box. It's normally much cheaper than the quoted prices the buyer would have received.
Justin, more often than not I lose money on shipping because when I ship to the west coast it will cost more than my estimate. If ebay wants to calculate the correct shipping cost, I'm good with it.
I'm fairly new to selling on eBay (less than a year). Several months ago eBay gave me the suggestion to pass along the shipping discount to buyers and I already made this switch. Yeah I liked that extra little bit of profit on shipping, but I justify it to myself that I'm in business to make money selling things, not to make money shipping things. I think the lower advertised shipping cost definitely makes my listings more attractive to buyers.
Did you notice an increase in sales when you made the change? I’m going back and forth on the change but I allot the extra dollar or two I make on shipping to my packing materials (boxes, bubble wrap, etc)
@@ForevertheYoungs Hmm that's hard for me to say. My sales definitely increased, but part of that is just because my store was getting more established at that time as well. But just thinking about the optics -- looking at a $25 item and one seller has $8 shipping vs another with $5 shipping, a buyer might be more likely to go with the cheaper option.
I have only been seriously selling on ebay since January and have ways used calculated shipping. Primarily because I do my weighing and measurements as part of my listing process. I didn’t know there was a special setting, but I feel like I’d need to study ebay for hours daily to understand all the different policies and options 🤣 Also, thanks for the vindication, Justin. I convinced my husband to pick up that exact saltines tin a couple of weeks ago at a garage sale. He was dubious and as we were watching the video, his jaw was agape 😂
Thank you for the link. I always use ground advantage but never put the actual weight of my items. I know what which weights cost which amount and list competitively. This would cause so much loss to me. Thanks again for the link.
That person wanting the partial refund was probably shown the same item for less after buying yours, usually when this happens the buyer cancels, in this case they decided to just ask for some money back. Not cool, but I blame eBay.
You mentioned getting away from your 'Free Shipping' model - why the change and what is your new strategy to streamline shipping costs? Thanks for posting these videos every week!
I tend not to use free shipping because I've had to eat shipping costs when a buyer has buyer's remorse and decides they want to return it. You can't get that money back if you offer free shipping.
If ebay wanted to be fair then calculated shipping (where actual shipping cost is charge) there would be no ebay fees charged for shipping. But then, we are dealing with ebay.
I talked about this in last week's video actually. The reason eBay charges fees on shipping, too, is because back when they did not, sellers would list the price of a $100 item as $1 with $99 in shipping to get around having to pay fees on it.
I think most sellers aren't looking at the big picture with regards to this shipping discount. I agree that you will have to eat those fees which sucks. I agree with you about not opting out because your sales are probably going to go up. I am a flat rate shipper also and I have started looking to see how I can lower my shipping because of this change. I think if you haven't opted into this new change I think your items are going to be pushed deep down in search by ebay.
I activated this feature myself a long time ago. Most of my items are slow moving and I want them to have every advantage over the 10 other listings on the site that aren't selling either. I do think that ebay should drop the fees for calculated shipping like mercari has though. I know back in the day they started shipping fees because of the work arounds, but it's not 1999 anymore. There's a way they could only allow it on calculated shipping bought through them, they just don't want to lose all that extra money they've been getting for so long.
I agree that passing on the discount in shipping to the buyer may be a good thing. I get lots of potential buyers who think (or pretend to think) that I have some control over shipping costs; many of them never buy from me. The attitude seems to be 'give me a discount or I move on to the next seller' or 'I need to rant and you are my target.'
I think passing on the actual cost of shipping item is fine, the buyer gets the exact shipping cost…we the seller have to pay eBay fees on that actual shipping cost…so sellers are losing money on shipping under the new policy.
thanks for answering the question about the watcher/view I've always wondered how it was possible. A question I have is: what helped you choose the price point for flipwise?
Justin, can you please show exactly how you add those standard shipping policies/rates to items? I can't seem to figure out how to do that, but it sounds like a fast, efficient way to set up shipping. Thanks!
Many good tips! Issue w/ thermal paper is the toxic BPA and/or BPS content, that's readily absorbed thru the skin and blood and accumulates in tissues.
I was interested to hear someone else's thoughts on the calculated shipping change. I do use it and the buyer is almost always paying more than the actual charge (thanks to ebay's discount) so I would usually upgrade their shipping service if they paid enough to allow it but I always thought, as a consumer, I'd much rather pay less and wait another day or 2 than pay more without knowing. Thanks for your insight!
Yup, you need to be careful of those buyers who wants a discount. He or she will try to find a flaw on the item or show you a picture of the item that they are replacing and try to scam you.
Could you have canceled that external hard drive sale as buyer requested if you hadn't asked if the wanted a refund or do they have to specifically say "I want a refund"?
Do you allow offers when you sell items on EBay? Sometimes I feel like not offering offers cause of low ballers and now I am setting a minimum offer. For example, something under 15 dollars with free shipping not allow offers or set a minimum of 14.00 if the item cost me 1.25 which I can make a few bucks. Thanks.
The guy who bought the hard drive is going to return it, guaranteed (and he might even intentionally break it and claim it came broken). Anyone who would ask a seller for a partial refund before the item shipped for no reason is someone who feels extremely entitled and is therefore guaranteed trouble.
@@stevelethal2910 that way when he returns it, the seller is out the item and the money AND shipping both ways, basically a temper tantrum because he didn't get his way, it's very common. That's why I research my buyers and my block list is over 3,000 people now.
@@positivepsycho2932 I like to mark things that are often switched with a code in black light ink that shows me that it's my sale. I photograph it under black light and record the code and location in my personal notes, but do not publish that photo or information on my listing or in email. That is saved for any fraud complaint I may need to file with eBay or Law Enforcement. I also write down serial numbers and photograph them. Then when an item is returned, I check for my black light markings. If there, I complete the refund. If missing, I file a wrong item returned complaint. I will negotiate with people, but anyone who asks for a partial refund after paying gets completely refunded and the sale canceled unless I've already shipped. If I've already shipped, I instruct them that when the package arrives, do not open the package, mark the package REFUSED and hand it back to the postal carrier. As soon as it arrives back in my hands and is verified to be the item I shipped out, the buyer gets refunded minus shipping. This type refund is not immediate, it depends on the speed of the USPS handling. If damage is claimed, I ask for pics of the packaging, the item in its entirety including damage and a close up of the damage. This is handled as fast as I receive the photos. Usually taking a few days, but I once had someone drag it our for a week.
Tomorrow is day 30 of selling on Ebay. Really enjoy your channel so when I found out Flipwise was available I gave it a try. Just the inventory piece has been worth it. The rest is the cherry on top. Going to spend some more time this weekend getting into the other features. Thanks.
How has it been for you? I've been selling for about a month a day half. I've sold 14 items but only 2 of them wedding things I bought to flip. I bought a bunch of inventory from thrift stores that hasn't sold and have over 50 active listings.
@@BlueWater-zk2qc Sold over 50 items so far. Have 85 listed. We stockpiled for about 6 weeks before we started. Just taking the advice from Justin and a couple other RUclipsrs. Listing daily. Run some sales. Be active with it. Taking advantage of garage sale season right now. We have probably 400 or so items to list. It's part time for us but doing pretty good.
@@BlueWater-zk2qc Sorry. Missed this notification. Selling toys, old holsters, pocket knives, some glassware. Scored a box full of Betty Boop collectables that are moving pretty good. Started listing clothes this week to see how it goes. We list 5-6 per day. I try to get a few days ahead on the weekend so we don't have to deal with creating listings daily. Just post 5 and ship for the day. I need to get more in the store for sure but still listing more than selling right now. 71 sold 147 listed. 12 drafts ready to go.
@@0909Patch Wow that's impressive. Makes sense as you seem to be spending a bit more time then me on this. Meanwhile I'm at 78 active 28 sold. Sales starting to pick up but I'm still in the red. Might sell some more personal items to allow time for the stuff I bought to flip to sell.
Let's just say ebay is very complicated to sell on now. I started selling in 1997 and sold over 100 auctions every week. None of this promotion stuff, craziness with shipping and very low buyer fraud because back then the seller wasn't forced to give a refund.
FYI, you can use any delivery service ie UPS, FED EX, DHL to deliver to a po box. You just need to add the street address of the post office where the po box is located. Size of the item does not have to fit in the box. The post office will leave a pickup slip in the box if it's to big. Please check your information before telling sellers it can't be done.
found a new-in-box Black and Decker Spacemaker can opener the other day at a thrift store for $10. it was a newer model than yours and it sold in less than 48 hours for over $100. Love selling those things!
I have been doing calculated shipping for years, and the price that the buyer pays is the same as the discounted rate I get from Ebay, unless I miscalculated the weight and am able to ship it at a lower weight.
I sell almost exclusively vintage. 20 years or older is the commonly accepted definition, likely because that's Etsy's policy on vintage items haha. Vintage is usually long tail so wait one-two years for something to sell isn't uncommon for me. I love when that's not the case but vintage is what I love and that's part of it haha.
Asking for a partial refund or discount is actually against eBays terms for buyers, its part of the first thing on the list of reasons you can report a buyer for, option 1"Buyer demanded something that was not offered in my listing", sub option 3 "Requested that I give them a partial refund or discount" the best way to combat this is to report it instead of just saying "oh that's eBay" or thinking eBay is not going to do anything about it and just not report it as it seems like Justin did in this video. Report this type of stuff if you are a reseller!
Always report and block sketchy buyers. Ask a question that's answered in the listing already? Blocked Make an offer on an item without best offer? Blocked Ask to end an auction early with a 20% value offer? Blocked Buyer's remorse so you try to say item is broken to get a refund? Oh wow! It just so happens my Brother lives in your city and can stop by to give a cash refund after he verifies it's broken. **Crickets** 22 years making a living on ebay and only been successfully scammed once
Vintage on Etsy is 20 years so that's a great tip for people. I have been reselling for over 20 years on Etsy and Ebay. I enjoy your channel very much, and have learned a lot. My husband is going to join in with me Aug 1 when he retires. Thanks of an intelligent channel.
For about the last two years I opted in to pass the shipping savings onto my customers. Customers factor shipping as part of price so that’s why I get off offers like $26.47 because they are coming up with a rounded price. That savings is nice but it costs me nothing to get an item sold $30 or $40 and it costs me $2-4 that I didn’t really have to use for promotion or reduced price.
WOW! Thank you for this. I had no idea. And sometimes the calculated shipping has actually come back and bit me - eBay sends a message that USPS had to amend its charges and I'm being debited for extra. I do my best to keep shipping costs down, but damn.
I actually hadn’t heard about that shipping change but it doesn’t apply to me. I somehow already had that activated. The buyer pays the same amount it costs for calculated shipping. Never been an issue but I haven’t done it any other way so I have nothing to compare.
I started selling in Feb 2024. Discounted shipping has always been offered to my buyers, as a new seller I have never known what it is like to sell without a shipping discount! I did need to start adding in 1.50 shipping and handling fee to offset eBay fees on shipping. Shipping men’s jeans across the country is $9-10, eBay fees on shipping we’re just killing me.
I don't do calculated shipping but I really wish eBay would list it as "Shipping & Handling". Many buyers don't appreciate that it takes time and effort, sometimes even an hour or more to properly pack delicate/heavy/awkward items. For even the most routine things like a dvd it's still at least a couple of minutes to retrieve it, weigh it, pack it, tape it, measure it, buy a label and print it, not to mention the time it takes to drop off at the post office.
I have done better this month than last, but its still down from where I would like to be. I'm still plowing through items. Hoping to add almost double the quantity to make up for the low sales numbers this coming month. That will also clear my "pile" sitting around.
I do calculated shipping, and I opted out of the new policy. My personal policy is that if someone ends up paying more than $1.50 over what shipping costs me, I refund that overage. (I once had a gentleman pay $35 for shipping on something that cost me $10 to mail!) I use that $1.50 or so to pay for my shipping supplies.
I’m somewhat new to eBay. I don’t see where I can opt out of just this new policy. I only see the option to completely opt out discount rates. I’d appreciate any help. Thanks
I had a guy ask me to reduce an $8 item by another dollar (I already took best offer) and he can pay today or he can pay in a few days. I’m thinking, dude, if you don’t have $1, you probably don’t need to be buying on eBay. I ignored the message and he paid the next day.
Are you saying do standard rates without discount is what you recommend? Also confused on flat rate shipping boxes not being a good deal...I see them free on USPS?
I would like to opt out of the new calculated shipping change, because by the time I buy shipping insurance and signature required on the package, that shipping discount ebay was giving you, is no longer there. So if I don't opt out, I will be paying out of my pocket for the buyers shipping insurance and signature required.
I’m interested in the flip wise. When it comes to vintage, I might consider something vintage if the item or brand came out with a new version I will say it’s vintage. It might not technically be 20 yr plus but if it’s the original version so I use the word.
I use the 20 year rule for vintage. I had someone message me yesterday and give me a long drawn out message about a piece of fiesta-ware I had listed as vintage. They were so rude. I enjoy it when people message me with info on an item I have listed that I didn’t know. But this lady was rude.
@@ForevertheYoungs I can appreciate someone telling me about something on my listing if I have made an error . We are human and make mistakes. I would also be annoyed by that person.
??? HI - great videos! If I am already enrolled in eBay International Shipping; but I need to list something like a knife and I just want that particular listing to not be listed internationally how do I do that?
I opt out because for years I have always put T shirts in as 4oz and 8oz as the calculated weight on large shirts To help mitigate the inflated shipping charges by eBay Now I wish I had never started doing that but I have 2k items that I would need to update or I will Lose money on the shipping So I’m going to opt out
Same brother! Same logic. I live on the east coast and when I sell jeans it’s cheaper to use ground advantage most of the time when they buyer is also east coast. I list them as ground advantage 13 oz so it’s roughly the same cost as a flat rate mailer. Then when the order comes in I upgrade or ship ground advantage. Set my whole business up like this. Would totally screw me. Ugh eBay sometimes!
Can you please give an update on when flipwise will be available in the UK. Got all the way to linking ebay account only to find it wasn't open outside the US
Do you know how international shipping works on flat rate shipping polices? The ones I've set say it sells through the international eBay shipping program, but I've wondered how shipping is calculated for them if size/weight is not included in my listing.
When selling through the international shipping program, you are only responsible for the cost to ship from your location to the eBay warehouse. All other shipping costs are paid for by the buyer and set by eBay without your involvement.
I am in Canada. The discount shipping has been offered to my customers since last year, so I wonder if it's different in USA. I use calculated shipping. Maybe I am missing something here ?
Do you use the promoted option? If so, what percent? I've been doing 2 percent and no best offer. I'm on the fence if I want to make a change to this decision.
depends on your inventory, type of items, if your current lot sells with good turnover; most are if greater than 90 days do price adjustment, other every six months and yet others yearly; just depends; also if you have space to store the items and not paying for external storage
I offer free shipping, and I have to ask, when I list an item, if I dont add the weight and size info, I get an error and have to go back and add it. If I am paying why does Ebay need the wt/dimensions for the listing?
If I can test them and they work, I sell them. If I can't test them, I donate. (You need all of the pieces to turn them on for safety reasons so they can't always be tested.)
As a Canadian, I bought a lot from eBay until their huge shipping costs kicked in. With our pathetic dollar and eBays new shipping charges what I pay is three times your selling price.
I consider same... 20 years or older is vintage. 100 years or older is antique. Drives me nuts when people write antique in their listing for something that's from the 1950's or 60's. LOL!
I did a sell similar and edited the shipping data and listed it. When the shipping label was printed it had reverted to the unedited data. Results were that a 6 pound 11 ounce parcel was printed as a weight of only 8 ounces. MUY NO BUENO. Had to cancel the order, refund the money and realist the item. Not the first time. Decorum prevents me from saying how much this SUCKS!
Your partial refund AFTER the sale buyer just reminded me of my AFTER sale buyer that also left me a questionable message. Buyer's note:" I certainly hope this is what it appears to be - A NEW IN THE BOX, FULLY CONTAINED, ORIGINAL as you are advertising. I was just scammed by a seller that was also scammed at an estate sale. I think you are asking an exorbitant amount, but I love the product and is totally unavailable on the open market." Product was discontinued decades ago and I inherited a new, unused one still sealed in mint condition that was so fresh it looked like it was just purchased. When I went to comp it, only one had come up for sale in the last 3 years so I used that price. I had a mess of watchers immediately and it was sold fast. Then I got her darling note :) I gave her the history and assured her it had been in our family since the 80's. Shipped it with my fingers crossed. She never replied to my response to her and she still hasn't left feedback. Fun times, I feel your exasperation!
I find that the majority of my buyers don’t leave feedback. I don’t leave feedback for buyers until I get feedback or it’s been 30 days since the item was delivered.
I haven't sold on there for a couple of years but now it says ebay pymt takes all these diff ways to pay where i only take paypal and no way to turn it off so I'm assuming ebay takes those ways and they pay me through paypal?
I would be willing to "pass my shipping discounts to the buyers" if eBay was willing to "pass their shipping fees" to me. But for me to get true shipping cost from the buyer means I'm actually losing money every time I ship because eBay takes a fee from the shipping cost. I could add a handling fee, but I do wonder if seeing an additional fee might turn some buyers off.
Thanks for the recommendation of sending offers as soon as someone watches an item. I have been waiting until and item has only a few days left until it's relisted for me to send offers, to give that person as much time as possible to pay full price, but it totally makes more sense to send them an offer when they are actively shopping. I realize they could watch that same item on several other other seller listings, and if that's the case, the person that sends them the best offer ASAP will get their business. I just sent 30+ offers that I have been holding back on. Thanks again!
This confused me, been selling for 2 years. I use eBay shipping but I don't get the difference ever? If someone sells international it costs me X amount to send it to eBay, whatever astronomical price eBay charged the buyer I'm not seeing a penny of that so what are you even talking about?
Ebay is only switching the calculated rates for the people who were sent an email. Those who didn't receive the email don't have to opt out because theirs won't change.
Man I've been reselling for a long time and watching so many different RUclips resellers, and I've learned more in 2 of your videos than most of the others combined. Keep it up, love your stuff!

Officially according to the auction industry vintage is 20 yrs or more up to 99 yrs. Over 100 yrs old is antique. Great video!

I’m grumpy about it also because I feel like this is the fourth major change to shipping since I started 9 months ago. I should be feeling confident about shipping at this point but I feel like my head is spinning around. 🙄
Along with the final value fees I pay eBay on shipping (and sales tax). Label stock isn't free either.
The shipping discount we get doesn't even fully cover the FVF fees eBay charges us on the shipping. Not like the shipping discount (which is just the USPS commercial rate and not something unique to eBay) is some kind of altruistic gesture on eBay's part.
Vintage 20+ years, Antique 50+ years, is my rule of thumb
You're naïve to refund the difference, nobody on Earth but ebay sellers do this.
I do the same.
Great insight.
You're selling from fear, keep items rare, prices high and they will keep selling. If you're battling race to the bottom arbitragers then yes you may need calculated.
20 years for vintage is my go-to guideline, too. 🙂
I have had "actual shipping cost" turned on for a long time - stumbled across the setting somewhere around the business policy setup, I think. (Passes the discount along to the customer - like the default will be soon.)
Old appliances new in the box are almost always good money - I sold a NIB bagel cutter a couple weeks ago for $75.
@@kieferzenkome too. I do it from solds.
That's s great idea, using "sell similar" from sold items.
The Zebras can be tricky to set up, but the prices can't be beat.
I have one of those Saltine tins from when I was a kid! Think I'm going to list it after seeing what you got for yours.
I opted out of ebay giving discounted shipping because i accept low offers to help with shipping and the couple bucks i get from the shipping discount is used for materials to ship.
Makes sense. You could also consider charging a small handling fee for each order.
Totally agree.Insurance, signature required on items above $500 and packing materials all cost money.

With calculated shipping, you can specify a handling fee, to help keep that profit margin in place
I use the extra for supplies, but I source for supplies also
Did you notice an increase in sales when you made the change?
That might be true but they have a limit on gaming postage so it stops you,so they are lying as they can stop it but they want to rip us off
I think most sellers aren't looking at the big picture with regards to this shipping discount. I agree that you will have to eat those fees which sucks. I agree with you about not opting out because your sales are probably going to go up. I am a flat rate shipper also and I have started looking to see how I can lower my shipping because of this change. I think if you haven't opted into this new change I think your items are going to be pushed deep down in search by ebay.
rare items always trump ebay hiding listings shenanigans
Don't interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake
thanks for answering the question about the watcher/view I've always wondered how it was possible. A question I have is: what helped you choose the price point for flipwise?
Thanks for the update. Just signed up and populated our Flipwise inventory. What a livesaver this is going to be. Love it!!
“She’s weird like that” 😆😆 Shipping is my favorite part too.
Justin, can you please show exactly how you add those standard shipping policies/rates to items? I can't seem to figure out how to do that, but it sounds like a fast, efficient way to set up shipping.
Thanks!

laser jet is all you need
Thanks.
Ooh thank you. Just opted out!
The guy who bought the hard drive is going to return it, guaranteed (and he might even intentionally break it and claim it came broken). Anyone who would ask a seller for a partial refund before the item shipped for no reason is someone who feels extremely entitled and is therefore guaranteed trouble.
What would be the point of intentionally breaking it? Just to get his money back? What would he get out of doing that?
Usually taking a few days, but I once had someone drag it our for a week.

can you create a video on how you do a flat rate shipping set up like you do that sounds like a great way to make more sales.

Good to know! Thanks for the info.
If you use EBay shipping labels, though, the address info is automatically populated I think, so how would you edit the street?

Blocked
Make an offer on an item without best offer? Blocked
Ask to end an auction early with a 20% value offer? Blocked
Buyer's remorse so you try to say item is broken to get a refund? Oh wow! It just so happens my Brother lives in your city and can stop by to give a cash refund after he verifies it's broken. **Crickets**

I guess one can call you a vintage seller 😉
That jersey is awesome, I’ve been keeping an eye out for one of them. My favorite Blue’s jersey hands down
I actually hadn’t heard about that shipping change but it doesn’t apply to me.
For even the most routine things like a dvd it's still at least a couple of minutes to retrieve it, weigh it, pack it, tape it, measure it, buy a label and print it, not to mention the time it takes to drop off at the post office.
you can charge an additional handling fee
I have done better this month than last, but its still down from where I would like to be. I'm still plowing through items. Hoping to add almost double the quantity to make up for the low sales numbers this coming month. That will also clear my "pile" sitting around.
I Get A Lot Of Send Offer On A No Watchers. What's That About.
With the changes to calculated shipping, a solution to address the cost of shipping materials is to include handling fees in your shipping policy.
Where is your software available?

Are you saying do standard rates without discount is what you recommend? Also confused on flat rate shipping boxes not being a good deal...I see them free on USPS?
Boxes are free, yes, but you have to use Priority service, which is more expensive, and negates any savings you made by using "free" boxes.
Vintage is hard to determine since some things become obsolete quicker than others but 30 years is about my number on vintage.
Thank you very much for talking about the changes to eBay shipping! :)
I would like to opt out of the new calculated shipping change, because by the time I buy shipping insurance and signature required on the package, that shipping discount ebay was giving you, is no longer there. So if I don't opt out, I will be paying out of my pocket for the buyers shipping insurance and signature required.
?

Same brother! Same logic. I live on the east coast and when I sell jeans it’s cheaper to use ground advantage most of the time when they buyer is also east coast.

How long do you have something listed before you adjust the price?
depends on your inventory, type of items, if your current lot sells with good turnover; most are if greater than 90 days do price adjustment, other every six months and yet others yearly; just depends; also if you have space to store the items and not paying for external storage
I offer free shipping, and I have to ask, when I list an item, if I dont add the weight and size info, I get an error and have to go back and add it. If I am paying why does Ebay need the wt/dimensions for the listing?

I have also started to part out Cuisinart food processors and other small appliance, what do you do with the bases or motors, donate them?
If I can test them and they work, I sell them. If I can't test them, I donate. (You need all of the pieces to turn them on for safety reasons so they can't always be tested.)
As a Canadian, I bought a lot from eBay until their huge shipping costs kicked in. With our pathetic dollar and eBays new shipping charges what I pay is three times your selling price.
I consider same... 20 years or older is vintage. 100 years or older is antique. Drives me nuts when people write antique in their listing for something that's from the 1950's or 60's. LOL!
Is flip wise ready to use in the uk?
Not yet, but we will be testing in the UK soon!
Someone from Alaska bought an old computer magazine off me for $50 and they paid an extra $20 for shipping. I was surprised, but it worked out ok.
So the discounted shipping will automatically go to the buyer instead of the seller starting May 15th unless we opt out?
If we opt out does it stay the way it is now or is the discounted shipping just lost to either the buyer or seller?

Your partial refund AFTER the sale buyer just reminded me of my AFTER sale buyer that also left me a questionable message.
Buyer's note:" I certainly hope this is what it appears to be - A NEW IN THE BOX, FULLY CONTAINED, ORIGINAL as you are advertising. I was just scammed by a seller that was also scammed at an estate sale. I think you are asking an exorbitant amount, but I love the product and is totally unavailable on the open market."
Product was discontinued decades ago and I inherited a new, unused one still sealed in mint condition that was so fresh it looked like it was just purchased.
Question...Is it worth Shipping Overseas? I have some batteries going to another continent and have been in delivery for over 2 months now. Thanks
I usually do better after tax refunds come in. February is my slowest month and summer is usually tough.
You siad in an earlier video that you promote all your listings. What % do you do? Do you leave it at 11.5%? Thanks :D
I have a whole other video on that topic! ruclips.net/video/Kef1xouVphA/видео.html
Why would eBay only select some people and not others?
Do a video on how eBay’s promotion works!
done! Doing this will literally double your eBay sales (for real)
