    Star Wars: The Last Jedi is not the film we were expecting. Sit down for an expert review of the film-okay that was sarcasm I'm no expert but still... From the forced humor to the numerous plot holes there was a lot to pick apart from this film. Sure, it wasn't perfect but it was by no means close to anything Star Wars we had seen before. Let me know what you thought of it yourself.
    THANKS FOR WATCHING!!

    Well crap... I dropped all my thoughts down here, Look at this mess. Looks a lot like this movie. Needs to be cleaned up.
    A Great Evaluation Michael, you called it like a Boss!
    I have been very vocal about my feelings on the Last Jedi and it really jaded me for any future Star Wars projects. What they did to Luke and so many things you pointed out. Ack! RJ subverted us but good, and it is a bad thing.
    I grew up with Star Wars, I was there in 1977 as a 5 year old kid watching A New Hope at our local Drive in Theater. I sat on top of my dads Bonneville and watched in awe of something special. The Luke I remember would not try to murder his damn nephew! What the hell was that all about? Luke was the guy who saved Darth Freaking Vader, and he wants to murder Ben in his sleep for a little darkness he sensed.. Yeah, total bullshit. No thanks.
    I am with a large growing group of folks who will no longer support Star Wars in the future.
    However we have no plans on taking the piss out on smaller channels who enjoy talking and plan on seeing the future movies.
    Movies are to be enjoyed and if some folks like it, great! But we won't stand by while the characters we loved and grew up with are so blatantly disrespected, and written so far out of character that it is worse than some bad fan fictions.
    Sure it looked pretty, but that is all I can say for TLJ. It honestly depressed me for a couple weeks. Thanks RJ! And your perfectly round head!

      Wow hahaha your first bit made me laugh and I would have given _ANYTHING_ to have watched a new hope in a drive in theatre when I was five, that sounds like the truth and sometimes I wish I was born 50yrs ago lol but what you said I completely stand behind. It's appalling to watch such an inexperienced director get hired and completely desecrate the films and heroes we grew up watching and looking upto. When I saw how many things he just blatantly threw out the window that were set up in ep 7 it made me so sad. All these plot holes were brought about so carelessly and you can tell he cared more about making a movie that looked cool rather than one true to the films. Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it

      Thanks Michael! You made my morning here. I can tell you it is something I have cherished all my life and created a deep connection with my father via Star Wars. When he passed away in 2004 I had "May the Force be with you" on his grave stone. Star Wars has always meant a lot in more ways than just a simple movie. It was about connections, family and heroes bringing out the best in all of us.
      I guess they don't understand that part and wanted to kill the past and bring in a whole new generation of fans. Which is fine, I am over it now and won't let it get the best of me. I have my memories and RJ can not take those away from me! Thanks again bud, you rock!

      I half disagree with this. The line would have been fine in a completely different context. The problem with the line is that it directly contradicted everything that was happening on screen but it seemed like the writers didn't realize that. She's saying that they'll win by protecting what they love right after sacrificing the resistance to stop Finn from sacrificing himself to save it. Rose is either a complete idiot, or a traitor. All the had to do to fix this though was change the scene with the fight between Phasma and Finn so that rather than Phasma pointlessly dying against when she falls through the floor she instead escapes, Finn tries to chase after her because he hates her, and then Rose stops him with that line to get him to escape with her. Would have fit perfectly, and it would have even made Phasma a slightly less stupid character.
      Of course if they had done that they would have had to change later scenes as well but those scenes were what caused the whole problem in the first place so that's a good thing.

    Another HUGE plot hole is that besides the fact that Rose is a pilot as well as a Mechanic you know from the previous movie that Fin is NOT a PILOT!!! he stated as much when escaping the base with Poe. so look at the timeline, he went from there to fighting Kylo to being knocked unconscious then waking up and now he can fly a ship. WWWWTTTTFFFFF!!!! he must have some Matrix thing going on because those ships are supposed to be old and barley operational but NO Finn needs to be able to fly for RJ's story to work!! And second if he had any flight training even in a simulator it would make sense that it would be on a first order vessel, but even when running from the FO with his his life on the line in TFA he again made it perfectly clear to Poe that he could not fly!! DejaVoodooDoll The bridge was destroyed, those shields would be gone. When Poe finally learned the plan, he was ok with it. Holdo is not a politician she is a military officer, basically the exact opposite. We blame her, because there is no reason not to tell Poe, the most valuable person in the resistance, the plan. I would like you to explain how Finn suddenly knows how to fly, how weaponizing lightspeed doesn't break the universe and how Yoda can manipulate the physical world and why doesn't he just shoot lightning at Snoke, Kylo, Hux or any bad guy? Also how did Leia not only survive in space, but survive the explosion? If an amateur force user like her can do something as incredible as that, then Jedi masters and sith should be invincible.

    The fans are not fearful of the future, they want the past to be respected. Since Disney took over the franchise, they have been pissing all over it. They cancelled projects like Battlefront 3, and The Clone Wars cartoons, took away the comic book rights from Dark Horse, who were telling some really good stories. Then they erased the EU from canon and took Lucas's story ideas for episodes 7-9 and threw them in the trash. "KILL IT IF YOU HAVE TOO, INDEED." But yeah, the fans are just fearful. And now Star Wars has been infested with Twilight fan girls who want a sexual relationship between Rey and Kylo.....Reylo. He murdered his father in cold blood. ruclips.net/video/i9nOEAFClJE/видео.html . And Disney is pandering to these sick puppies. Disney destroyed Luke's legacy to make Kylo a more sympathetic character because fangirls want Reylo.....while Star Wars fans who have supported the franchise for decades are just whiney fanboys. Another plot hole that you missed. At the beginning of the film, Poe lead the attack on the First Order's Dreadnought. He had words with Leia about destroying it. Leia wanted him to retreat and call off the attack. Leia was the general, so why didn't she radio the bombers and tell them to abort? Anyway, Poe said that the Dreadnought was a "fleet killer"(remember this line). So they lost all of their bombers in the attack, but did destroy the ship. Poe was admonished by Leia, and later Holdo, about the recklessness of the attack. But just a few minutes later, the First Order fleet found them and attacked their fleet again. The only way they all didn't get destroyed was the Rebel fleet was fast enough to stay out of range of Snoke's ship, but the First Order's Dreadnoughts had longer range and were "fleet killers"(there it is again). So Leia and Holdo should have thanked Poe for destroying it because if he hadn't, they all would die very quickly! But no, Leia demotes him and Holdo disrespects him.
    Don't even get me started on the issue of why didn't the First Order just send ships ahead of the Rebel fleet, since they outnumbered them and could track them....

      Well If I'd read it as a fan-fiction I would probably have said that it has good ideas and solid scenes to it, but fails to be consistent along with painting itself into an inescapable corner. Also the writer utterly doesn't understand Luke's character and utterly failed to justify his 'development'. Not to mention missing some great opportunities for good moves.
      Edit: Hell, if this and Force Awakens had both been fan-fics, I would have said that people should read the first one and take that as an ending because the sequel feels like it was written by both someone else and someone who has no talent for it which utterly hates the original author out of envy.

    List of Last Jedi fails:
    1. The Hero’s Journey
    2. Character development ( one dimensional characters )
    3. Pacing
    4. Too many plot points
    5. SJW stuff
    6. Continuity to Force Awakens and any other Star Wars film.
    7. The Force theme: No temptation to turn to the Dark side and no Fear when facing the Dark Side. “He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster . . . when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you” ― Friedrich Nietzsche
    8. Stakes - at no point we fear for the heros lives
    9. Out of place humor
    10. Force learning contradictions. Both Luke and Kylo teach the same thing... let go of the past, be in the present. It could be an interesting point but it doesn´t go deep. Too short and too out of context. Seams like the lesson is directed for the audience and not so much for the character of Rey. A real slap on the face on the fan base.
    11. No trainning required to become a Jedi and to get powers you just have to download an app. Basically trainning and knowledge was replace by belief.

    Luke and Rey´s cave comparison. Luke saw a darker version of himself. A metaphor for "you are your greatest enemy" "beware of the dark side in yourself". Rey´s vision of herself: It doesn´t matter who were your parents. Your are enough. You have everything you need. Quote from Rian Johnson, "facing her greatest fear that, you (Rey) have nothing but yourself to relly on".
    She doesn´t need help
    She doesn´t need parenting
    She doesn´t need the antiant Jedi books
    She doens´t need a master
    She doesn´t need training
    She doesn´t need a pilot
    She doens´t need a mechanic
    She doesn´t need help to run
    She doesn´t need a translator
    Catch my drift?

    You forgot that Finn went from the lowest rank Storm Trooper in TFA who needed a pilot to help him escape the First Order, to piloting a ship to casino land and then flying those strange speeder/attack things on not Hoth salt world, and gained this skill in a few galactic days. It's as if Riann Johnson never watched TFA, much less the original trilogy. This movie took the themes of the fringe extreme left SJW political agenda and slapped a Star Wars label on it. And to go beyond simple politics, the movie was about and force-fed the audience a nihilistic world view.

    • @MichaelJaeYT

      Wow, good catch, I totally forgot about Finn not being able to fly a simple TIE fighter. This literally takes place right after TFA so he still shouldn't know how to fly.

    That whole Leia flying through space thing and surviving was like wtf is wrong with these people #NoLogic, though it was nice to see that Kylo didn't kill his mom. After seeing the trailer we were led to believe that was what would happen. Also that hyperspace kamikazee was like WTF. Also I hated purple hair lady for so long till she sacrificed herself.

    • @MichaelJaeYT
      @MichaelJaeYT  6 лет назад +7

      Yeah I'm glad Kylo didn't fire at Leia, and yeah weaponizing hyperspace is so out there it's hard to fathom even though it kind of makes sense. They producers mentioned in an interview that it only worked because it was such a big ship, but then why not manufacture a small fleet of massive ships super cheap that without putting much inside them to just rip through a fleet of star destroyers next time they show up. And I don't like the purple-haired lady. i'm glad she died and save the rest of the rebels. Good, swift, heroic end to her character lol

    • @CreativeIkiguy
      @CreativeIkiguy 6 лет назад +1

      Yea it makes sense because of physics and proximity I guess, because I think they jump is not instantaneous so the distance in front of the ship would not be enough for the jump to complete. Not completely sure how hyperspace works since its all hypothetical.

    Reasons why Luke died like a coward:
    1. He gave up on the Jedis and the resistance. Depressive much?
    2. He could easily force pulled his ship and just go there himself.
    3. He went to that island to die and got his wish? Wow, what a hero!
    4. Obi Wan gave his life so that Luke and friends could escape but he was in a NO OTHER OPTION situation. Obi wan had Vader, 5 storm troopers and a precipice between him and the ship. Luke was never going to leave him behind... he had to do it... big difference.
    5. Yoda was 900 years old and still did not give up on the Jedi (on the contrary, he praised the Jedi as serious warriors with the deepest commitment). He trained Luke and died only when Luke was about to become a Jedi ( "face him you will" )

      Kind of a nitpick, and doesn't take away from what you said at all. You're right.
      But yoda didn't really praise the jedi as warriors.
      Remember;
      Luke "I want to be a great warrior!"
      Yoda "like wars make one great, hmm?"
      Basically he preached that seeking fights and being a warrior wasn't good. More that the jedi were a defence

    Some kind of Star Wars consistency with the old ones would be nice. I understand having new characters from the old ones, but keeping the rules of the force would be nice. If they stuck with the rules, Kylo would be a Jedi and Rey would be a Sith lord. I mean, she's all about hate and anger and except the times they force him to throw an emo fit, he usually seems to be calmer than her. And he had to work to get to where he is, while her there is no effort whatsoever!
    Character consistency would be nice too. Hux was atleast a serious character in the first movie, while the last Jedi turned him into a joke. Is it so hard to ask for the characters to stick to who they are??

      isn’t that abram’s fault though? he introduced the characters in a basic movie that had no originality. but to your point, maybe don’t freak over rules so much? i mean you’re talking about consistency in STAR WARS lol. that’s like trying to find meaning in an episode of spongebob. this trilogy was a mess tbh. but i like last jedi anyways cuz it’s the only one in the trilogy that (standing alone) has any value to me. but that’s just me i guess

  • @luizpalombini3425
    @luizpalombini3425 6 лет назад +12

    Why should Luke be so hopeless? Why is it that the master-apprentice motif is upside down? Did Merlin gave up on his goal to unify the Land over Uther’s betrayal?
    Why is Rey the one pushing Luke to do the right thing? Do you not agree with Joseph Campbell’ Hero’s Journey?
    Luke changed from hero to anti-hero for dumb reasons.
    Yoda was 900 years old and still believed in the Jedi. He died only after Luke’s trainning was complete.
    Obi wan gave his life because he was in a no other option situation. He had Vader, 5 storm troopers and a precipice between him and the ship. Luke was never going to leave him behind.
    “The Jedi must end" Who said the Jedis were perfect? Perfection is a fake notion. It is actually a Sith quality rather than a Jedi quality. Look at the Empire and what it represents. Perfect order, perfect system, perfect technology. A New Hope is Nazis in space.
    If the Jedi must end, then what about the Sith?
    Why did you double down on Rey’s Mary Sue criticism? Chuck Norris would shit on his pants. Rey is ridiculous over powered with no reason.

      honestly, i liked this luke way more than the cartoonish kid from the originals. i love him in the first trilogy but tlj kinda made him more interesting. like he now has flaws and second thoughts but in the end he chooses to help. it makes the audience question the jedi and their past of shady business lol. and also the jedi preached perfection (no emotion, trained since being a baby) while the sith (which is different than the empire btw) weren’t so pretentious. the star wars fandom HAS held the jedi as being perfect good guys. it’s interesting how rain johnson flipped that perspective. also- if u want to be angry, be angry at lucasfilm cuz this trilogy was handled so poorly and had no planning beforehand. rian made an interesting movie that i cared about watching. jj abrams is kinda lame when it comes to writing new stories. rian tried to introduce some new ideas to star wars but honestly the fandom couldn’t handle it :/ the sequels shouldn’t have happened but i’ll rewatch last jedi before any the other two for sure

    I don't think this Star Wars trilogy (7-9) is salvageable anymore. If they want to win back the fans, they will have to start over with a different trilogy. But Disney may completely destroy Star Wars before that happens. I already know I'm not watching Solo or any other Star Wars movie as long as Kennedy and Johnson are still there.

    • @MichaelJaeYT
      @MichaelJaeYT  6 лет назад +7

      I do think that they've destroyed it a lot already but I think having JJ Abrams make the ninth one gives it a better probability of not being completely trash rather then if Ryan Johnson was directing this one as well. And I'm curious to see how Ron Howard treats solo now that he's the director and reshot the whole movie that the last directors messed up

      Yeah I get that. But for a fight to have any gravitas, a cinematographer should at least try to make the opponents or threat to the protagonist seem potent, or ominous, or any of the other aspects that would add tension to a fight.
      These nameless, faceless, random weapon wielding Praetorian guards are the furthest from intimidating. The entire scene is poorly set up, poorly executed and poorly shot.

    “The heroes are he ones that are still changing, while the villains are locked and petrified into what they are.” - Akira Kurosawa. In The Last Jedi, the heroes are petrified and the villains are the ones who change. This is not bold nor visionary. It is a childish amateur mistake.
    Kylo went from childish emo to ruler of the first order.
    Snoke went from unbeatable ruler to deceived ruler.
    Rey is and always have been a Mary Sue.
    Luke is a sociopath and dies like a sociopath. Utterly alone. (even Yoda´s presence is like no big deal).
    Holdo is arrogant to the very end.
    Leia is super in every way from beginning to end.

    I had a lot of issues with TLJ, like just about everyone else, but I think Holdo not telling Poe the plan is one of the few things I can understand. The Resistance wasn’t fully aware of the First Order’s hyperspace tracking. The only way they could be tracked otherwise would be if there was a mole on the ship telling the First Order their location. The plan was likely not shared with many people on board, and Poe having just been demoted, and shown to be a bit of a loose cannon only makes his demands to know the plan more sus in Holdo’s eyes. Let’s not forget that Poe not trusting Holdo and sending Finn and Rose of their wild mission is the only reason that Holdo’s plan failed. If Poe had just accepted the fact that Holdo was in charge, had a plan, and he just sat down and listened to his superior officer, the plan would have worked just fine, the Resistance would have secretly escaped to Crait, and Holdo would have jumped out of the system, leading the First Order away, and all of the ships that were shot down and the people who died on Crait would have survived. Poe literally only made things worse because he thought he knew better.

      Even then, the dude just blew up Starkiller Base, initiated the attack on a dreadnought that surely would have killed them, has been captured and tortured by the First Order, and is second-in-command, yes? You've gotta trust somebody at this point. And if she's worried about someone eavesdropping, take him somewhere for a private conversation officer-to-officer. How can you expect your subordinates to follow you when everyone's living on borrowed time, and you're not sharing any plan on how you're going to actually make it out of this situation?

  • @Feuerex
    @Feuerex 6 лет назад

    By the end of TLJ, the Resistance consisted of about 8 dudes aboard a single ship, which was a 'hunk of junk' 30 years ago, so it's pretty miraculous it's even able to fly, and the First Order had most of its forces blown away by that hyperspace attack, because obviously, they keep ALL of their armies on those ships (as well as Phasma and ALL troopers being present to an execution of a single traitor and a random girl). Not to mention that the First Order crumbles in EVERY fight - their fleet got utterly annihilated by a single ship, Starkiller base was blown up by a couple people, and the feared Dreadnaught couldn't fire more than like 5 shots, + had no defences outside some shitty static cannons unable to hit a thing.
    I really hope the resistance will stay this way, some 10 people who somehow make it out of every bad situation with ease, somehow eliminating a massive military organization and getting hold of the entire galaxy. That would be so fucking stupid, like a B movie that's so bad it's actually hillarious.

    Not to mention how for a Star Wars movie, barely anything happened. Every other Star Wars film to date had so many sub plots and things to look out for that made it CONSTANTLY interesting. For example, Episode 3 showed the fall of the Jedi, the conflict between Anakin and Obi Wan, several large scale and personal battles and how Anakin turned to the Dark Side, showing every piece of information throughout. Episode 7 (although it’s basically a remastered episode 4) shows that the galaxy is endangered by the first order, we are introduced with several new characters, there are several exciting scenes where Rey escapes captivity from Kylo Ren as well as several battles throughout, we saw the saddening death of Han Solo establishing the true dark side of Kylo, how the rebels got onto the the Starkiller base and managed to disable the shields and then blow it up. It had so much content and so many things happening in a way where it wasn’t cluttered but it was hugely interesting. This film literally had the rebels pathetically trying to escape the first order, Rey trying to get training, Snoke getting killed which was a huge missed opportunity, rebels going into that red and white planet and having a pathetic standoff only to run away with most of the rebels dead and the first order as powerful as they ever were. What?
    What I don’t understand is that the Spark to start the flame that is the first order should’ve been when they blew up starkiller base. Starkiller base is such a massive powerful weapon of destruction that has caused so much pain and distress throughout the galaxy, yet once the rebels blow that up, the next film we get... nothing? Nobody comes forward to intervene or contribute to the rebellion? How are they supposed to set that metaphoric spark again? And how did the first order manage to sustain their expansive fleet and army while having their base completely eradicated?
    This film made no sense, completely messes up Star Wars and leaves a very difficult and complicated path for the next film.

      You hit the nail on the head, it didnt _feel_ like a star wars movie and i didnt realize that until just now. Everything took place within a few days tops from the beginning of TFA, there were just too many plot holes over all and i didnt even begin to cover them all but you made some really good points here, thank you

      It also killed any sense of mystery that Force Awakens created.
      The more I've thought about Force Awakens, the less I liked it. I think it's basically a big-budgeted fan film that makes the main character a Mary Sue and insists we like and respect her more than the original beloved characters, without her needing to earn it. It plays at being Star Wars. Sometimes successfully, but not always as well as it thinks it does. But it still feels too often like it's play-acting at being Star Wars, not actually just being Star Wars.
      But all that said, Abrams did succeed in creating a sense of mystery and left things open to progress that could potentially add great context, texture and reveals down the line.
      Then Rian Johnson threw out what gains Force Awakens actually made and left us with nothing to care about. Everybody is either dead, bitter and given up (and dead), or the solution to the mystery was there wasn't any actual mystery (Rey's parents) so blah.
      Abrams is kind of a slightly above average writer/director who did exhibit some care towards the existing universe of Star Wars. Johnson is a hack with no sense of how bad of a writer he actually is and no real care or mindfulness for the lore and story he was given to work with. Neither seem to be able to resist having injected their real-world and transitory social ideologies into it, which is, YES, a bad thing for this kind of mythical storytelling.

    For Luke to be living as a hermit like Obiwan on Tatoonie in ep4 and Yoda on Dagobah in ep5 (that's what they were going for) they had to make it that Luke had gone into retirement because he didn't need to hide from the First Order like Obiwan and Yoda had to hide from the Empire, because unlike the Empire the First Order is not as strong and not in control of the galaxy. Not many people seem to mention this. However, all in all I feel that George Lucas made a big mistake selling SW to Disney. I think a new trilogy should been his story, even though I wouldn't want him to actually make it.

    Don't blame Disney. The people to blame were all a part of Lucasfilm before Disney took over. I'm talking about Kathleen Kennedy and Pablo Hidalgo. Kennedy was George Lucas' hand picked choice to lead Lucasfilm for Disney. And Hidalgo is head of the Lucasfilm Story Group. In interviews the story group folks are so proud of all the little details, the minutia, that connects the films and expanded universe - stuff like the compass from Battlefront 2 being in Luke's possessions in TLJ. But the story group doesn't seem to actually care about the STORY or characters. They can't seem to see the forest for the trees. What good is continuity in the tiny details when there is no continuity in the storylines, characters, or even the universe itself? Hidalgo signed off on the hyperspace battering ram and hyperspace tracking, both of which open huge cans of worms for the entire franchise (did you notice that when Jyn is reading through the names of all the secret Empire projects in Rogue One trying to find the Death Star data tapes, "Hyperspace Tracking" is the only one that doesn't have a code name? It was added in as a clue to what was coming in TLJ. This is the kind of thing the story group focuses on - little insignificant easter eggs!) Lucasfilm/Disney needs to fire these two clowns and put Dave Filoni in charge. He has headed the excellent Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. I'd love to see him start working on the film side.

      Supposedly, JJ Abrams wrote a script for TLJ and then Rian Johnson completely rewrote it...if true, he's a big part of what ruined this...plot holes everywhere, and a completely new person with the name Luke Skywalker...not the same man/character as other movies! And all the new, universe-breaking tech and strategies, what?

    • @MrBomasBalloons
      @MrBomasBalloons 6 лет назад +6

      Andrea B - I had read that JJ gave Rian an outline for Ep VIII AND Johnson discarded it. So yeah, Johnson is ultimately responsible for the garbage we got. But Kennedy and Hidalgo allowed it all to happen. They should have told him No.

      What I mean is that it looks pretty and it has lovely sound design. But, when you get into the plot, character actions, etc it just falls apart. A nice pretty spectacle with no substance. The hyperspace attack is a near perfect microcosm for the whole film. Which, for someone like myself, that stop being impressed by visuals and nice sound design in the early 2000s, when computers got to the point where they proved they could put basically anything on screen if they were willing to spend the money, this sort of thing is practically insultingly bad even without it destroying 40 years of history.

    LAST JEDI - HERO´S JOURNEY ANALYSIS ( FAILS )
    - COMMON WORLD -
    Its a fail because the film started in a totally different enviorement; she was never there before.
    Example: in Empire we spent a lot of time at the snow base getting to know the current situation and the characters who had clearly grown more mature.
    - CALLING FOR ADVENTURE -
    This was set in the force awakens but in this movie they forgot to repeat it, the heros journey is fractionated so some steps are repeated.
    Example: in Empire Strikes Back Obi Wan apears to Luke as a ghost to tell him to find Yoda.
    - SUPERNATURAL AID -
    Rey is the one pushing Luke and forcing him to do things, so the master-aprentice motif is lost and this is a major fail because from now on every step of the hero’s journey is flawed beyond repair.
    - REFUSAL OF THE CALL -
    Rey is always ready to do the right thing.
    Example: in Empire Luke breaks his promisse to stay and finish his training in order to go and save his friends even though Yoda and Ben warned him that it was a trap and that it would be better to stay and finish his trainning.
    - THRESHOLD GUARDIANS -
    Her first challenge is to be trainned but aparently she doesn´t need training, 2 lessons is enough.
    - CHALLENGES AND TEMPTATIONS -
    She excells at everything and always knows what to do. Examples:
    1. The cave challenge she finds out that it doesn´t matter who her parents were, that she is enough and she has everything she needs. In Rian own words "the cave represents Rey facing her greatest fear ... "she doesn´t have anybody and she can only count on herself". Narcisistic much? She suceeds again.
    2. The force skype conversation with Kylo she is clearly in control and is not afraid nor tempted to go to the Dark Side.
    - ABBYS; DEATH AND RETURN -
    Rey is brought to Snoke Return of the Jedi style and gets help from Kylo. This is a fail because the Hero has help in all stages of the hero´s cicle EXCEPT THIS ONE... were he has to face his greatest threat and go through it alone and with no help.
    Example 1: in Return of the Jedi Luke beats vader and throws his lightsaber away... he has accepted his death... he has accepted his fate... Luke´s closure is that he is not his father... he is a Jedi and will follow his own path.... death was no longer an issue for him...vader helping and killing the emperor was part of Anakins closure and not Luke´s.
    Example 2: Empire strikes back: Luke lost his hand and is beaten phisicaly, mentaly and emotionaly... he will never be the same person again. In a way the old Luke arrogant and impulsive died and was reborn more mature and in touch with reality. Also he receives no help from Obi Wan. Leia helps him escape but only after his fight with vader was over.
    - TRANSFORMATION -
    What transformation? She doesn´t need the Antiant Jedi books ( that she just found out about it ) nor further training.
    The only transformation we see is that Rey´s character reaches Chuck Norris level of Mary Sue stereotype.
    - ATONEMENT (abandoning of the Ego ) -
    What Ego? She is perfect. She is even more perfect. She is all she needs.
    - RETURN (gift of the Goddess ) -
    They all return to the same place they were. She always saves everyone so no news here. Resistance on the run... again!
    Booooooooooooooring

    In regards to the rotten tomato's popcorn (that is those who watched the movie) review rating. They throw out anything below a one star rating, if you go through their reviews you will find at least 10% (probably closer to 15%) are below a one star rating. The actual popcorn review rating is closer to 40% (or even lower). One other thing, nothing in the other six movies or the animated series suggested fuel shortages was a problem. My theory? They were running on fan support as fuel and it ran out in the last jedi.

    Luke has always been my favorite character and they completely changed who he was. What you said about him was 100% correct. Think about all the evil things Vader DID and the lengths Luke went to because he sensed good in him. At the point that Luke decided to kill Kylo, he hadn't DONE anything, Luke just sensed evil in him. I'm not buying it at all. The dynamic between Kylo and Rey and that wicked fight scene were the only good things about the movie. And at this point, Kylo is the only interesting character, so if he is just ultimately a villain that ends up defeated, it will be such a waste. I'm sincerely hoping for something redeeming in the next movie.

      Yeah that sums up my opinion on the current Star Wars franchise. It’s really a damn shame to see a really cool universe being reduced to mediocrity. Sad part is that there is no excuse for the bad writing. They literally had 100s of stories to make movies from. They could have gone back to the old republic and do a Darth Revan story as well as following the events from that story. Or even go back further to see movies to the origins of the Jedi or hell even a Sith origin story. Imagine a rated R Sith origin story? Or they could even follow the story of what Darth Vader did after he got his suit and follow his story still. So much wasted potential for sub par stories that barely anyone likes.

    “Let the past die, kill it if you have to” is not the theme of TLJ or the sequel trilogy. That is just Kylo Ren, the antagonists, philosophy. Looking at Han, Leia, Luke, Finn, and Rey’s character arcs they all are about accepting the past and learning from it. Not forgetting it. Yoda’s scene in TLJ sums up the theme of the sequels pretty nicely I think. Also, the theme of Star Wars as a saga.

  • @davfree9732
    @davfree9732 6 лет назад +3

    SWTLJ was only subversive for those who haven't seen RJ's previous movies. Go back and watch them and what he did in TLJ are echo's of his past work.
    Add to that, he only directed 3 movies before TLJ and in two of those, his heroes are on the path to self destruction... Hello Luke, put aside your character and his history... Here's RJ to twist you in his image of heroes who are better off with a shotgun to the chest.

    • @MichaelJaeYT
      @MichaelJaeYT  6 лет назад

      Yeah I can definitely see him not being the best screenwriter if he is only directed three movies so far, I'll have to go read a summary or check them out, I just think it was a completely different vision then what JJ had planned for the trilogy

    • @davfree9732
      @davfree9732 6 лет назад

      I think JJ had more of a love letter planned. JJ is a director who milks what he has, even if he doesn't understand that a lighter touch can be as effective as high drama, energy and fast pacing.
      RJ certainly didn't milk anything, he left that to Luke. And really RJ has the problem that is similar to JJ's. JJ get's caught up in the moment and forget's to pull back. Hence we don't get to see the New Republic. He didn't see Leia and Chewie as being people who would hug when his focus was on Rey...
      RJ's problem is that he is incredibly character focused. He doesn't think about world building beyond what world his character's interact with. Hence, once again, this sequel trilogies scope and vision is very small compared to the world building GL did. And when your character's are the focus of the drama, the drama come's from the character's and not say, a surprise asteroid field that throws the heroes off balance and are left scrambling to react. If the drama come's from the character's then you need Joss Whedon level's of character understanding in knowing what character's know, want, how they react etc... And RJ, for all his flaw's, is a directer who tends to focus on visual's over everything else.
      So when he has to conform to another person's idea's in terms of story, I don't think he's interested if the beats of the plot are high octane. He's not a director who compliment's JJ's 'Action! Action! Action!' style. He can do the fast paced action but he can't control the narrative of long drawn out action. His bread and butter seems to be people arguing and stand off's, whereupon the stand off is the conflict he wants to build and examine before effecting a quick resolution of the conflict

    TFA was only so highly rated because it was the first SW movie in forever, not because it was actually good, as it just ripped off older movies, something JJ is really good at. It was a bad hackjob with a Mary Sue, Emo Ren, and a wandering plot and poorly paced action and scenes. All of his last several movies have been "reboot" "rehash" movies that simply reuse old material in HD. How original, Kirk died instead of Spock. OMG, lense flares! He's done nothing original, so I don't expect much from 9.

      Yup, agreed, I liked its trueness to the OT even thought there was some questionable choices but TLJ just took it too far

    The pilot thing I feel like in the star wars universe should be like having a normal car license in our universe. Almost everyone has one.

    Spoiled Millennials psychological problems (not all of them are): Just like the Joker and Harley Quin, making Rey and Kylo a relationship role model is sick.
    - Narcissism: You are perfect and you do not need to grow or improve yourself. False notion of perfection.
    - Abandonment issues: Your parents have abandoned you and you are all alone in this world and you canno´t count on anyone except yourself.
    - Wishful thinking: you know better and things should be done your way.
    - Nihilism: is a philosophical doctrine that suggests the lack of belief in one or more reputedly meaningful aspects of life
    - The new generation is better
    - Disregard for the old generation

      I have compared this movie to a play written by a college kid, pissing on his parents generation. He has written it , drawing in the stories and realities of his parents life, while living in his parent's house, going to school on his parent's dime, and writing it on his parent's computer. He trashes everything his parents believed in and enjoyed, then can't understand why they don't like his awesome play. And complains about that( and them) while they drive him home.

    "Let go of the past" immediately following A New Hope v2.0 (Episode 7). That movie was nothing but nostalgic fan service from start to finish. And then in Episode 8, they do Hoth...again. They need to take their own advice. I was hoping we would get the Dark Forces Saga (4 PC games - Dark Forces, Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy)...but we can't because Luke Skywalker is a predominant figure in it.

    There is one major point, that I'd like to add:
    YODA LIGHTING THE ANCIENCT JEDI TEXTS ON FIRE.
    That alone is an inexcusable insanity. But the problem goes even deeper. Because the reasoning behind that scene is the sad fact, that episode 9 robbed the force entirely of its mysterious and mystical aspects. The force is supposed to be something full of secrets, hard to comprehend and even harder to use. Jedi spent thousands of years studying it, devoting their lives to it.
    But now it's something, that you can easily master within two days, making the jedi of the past look like fucking idiots, because they couldn't figure out, how ridiculously simple everything is. I think, Yoda even said, that those books were boring and that Rey already knew everything, that's in them.
