Seeing Luke tossing his lightsaber over his shoulder in the first scene was really a big fcuk you to the audience. Then Leia survives in the vacuum of space, casually flying back to her ship. Wtf

Elmgren76 a Jedi grandmaster trying to kill ben solo while he was asleep because he sensed some darkness; enough said.

    • @jamesashcroft8170
      @jamesashcroft8170 6 лет назад +13

      No, not enough said.
The same Jedi grandmaster who looked at Vader, the man who cut off his hand, butchered hundreds (and presided over the deaths of thousands) and served as the right hand of tyranny for several decades, and said "I can fix this"
And all that is gone in TLJ
Now I think it's enough said.

I wasn't surprised he threw it tbh. That saber is responsible for many deaths, and almost brought down the Jedi order twice. To hell with it. And yeah while rediculous, I think the point to be conveyed by Leia in space is her strength in the force

    • @loneblindjedi
      @loneblindjedi 6 лет назад +39

Right? That’s a punk move that Luke wouldn’t make. If Luke felt the need to kill him, especially since that’s his nephew, he would make it a point to have a face-to-face stand off.

    • @mattyonline2
      @mattyonline2 6 лет назад +3

Jeff Block would be pretty awks to explain to Han and Leia that he may have killed their only child because of a hunch.
But I get the jist of it all. In hindsight it could have been explained that Snoke interfered heavily in that scene in an attempt to turn Luke to the dark side or Ben. In both cases Snoke wins so it makes sense.
But I’m assuming that they decided not to go that way because they wanted to humanise Luke by showing he made mistakes when given the mantle of Master. Probably would have worked as well if they showed the images of what Ben would do as Luke was reading his thoughts so that the audience actually connects to his decision.
I didn’t have many gripes with the film. Most of the criticisms are the same criticisms that were given to the originals when they were released. It has problems but it’s added an interesting Kylo-Rey dynamic that we haven’t had in the films before. I mean I can only remember Bastilla and Revan comparing. But at there’s a possibility that the dynamic will be dropped in 9.
All in all I liked it, think it will grow on most people. I’m more worried about where they’re going with 9 tbh.

PT, ....Controversial.....yes. Destroyed....no. Not by a long shot. One of the big differences for me is that a lot of problems ( depending on which adventure ) in the PT are very cosmetic problems and could be fixed with a nicely done recut ( Or Ultimate Cut or whatever you wanna call it ) TLJ is utter foundational rot laced with political and social agenda's.

I like most fans don't care much for the Prequels. Even with their drawn out Dialogue, Heavy.. Heavy CGI that looked bad even at Premier, and Shaky Acting at times the Prequels are still better than TLJ. TFA suffers from a lot of the same problems as TLJ BUT and this important.. it snakes by Fans Approval cause it basically got copied straight from a New Hope, so at least it felt kinda like Star Wars.

-what is the point of insulting people? maybe insulting people restores your manhood in front of your sick fantasy. Why should charakters with no backstories, with no personality, with poor written charakters and with behaviour that nobody understands be in any way manly or womanly? The anwer is because a brand like Disney, a certain typ of "journalists" and media, people who jump on trends trains and of course people with a ideology based on fear and virility problems who should improve their empathy ( one of most importants feelings in the human society) and stop acting like mindless zombies sponsored by multinational Companies.
Remember you have a certain thing named brain, use it!!!!

so now iam guilty of destroying a franchise thank you it my only purpose to do that iam happy to see that you are hurt by this iam so manly XDD
I will never shut up , nobody in this shit world willl ever again shut my mouth not my dad, not my mother, not the gouverment, not any kind of company and of course not any typ of antique ideolgy in a guy like you.
ANd you know what i think ?
well if i would think my view is the only view point to the situation i would be very surprised by your comments. Do i seem surprised by you ?
Well maybe iam but not by your view more by your anwsers. Why in hell do you contradict yourself in the second line after writing "whole little ideology blows and your pretentious blown out of proportion self importance" and i must say i laught loud out when i read that hahahahahahaha. hahhahahahhahahah
      hahahhahhahahahahhahhhahahhhahhahhahhhahaahhahhhahah
ahhhhh well my ideology didnt explode ahhahhaahhh but its time that your Big Ideology implodes like a star which exploded like a supernova, it times that your internet devise shut down for ever because of contradicting writing. And time will come when you should go around
thinking about other thinks than your "keep your mouth shut" policy, maybe this works with your family or who ever, but not with me fucking piece of fucking shit on a warm sommer day , do you really think that your comment feels in any way as a danger for me ? It only proves your own insolent behaviour
but iam ok with my insolent behaviour?
right maybe you understand the point and maybe you can grow as a person.

This movie was absolutely 100% effing TERRIBLE! The only thing, the ONLY FREAKING thing they would have had to do to make this movie decent was make Luke the total badass Jedi he deserved to be. He's the most powerful Jedi ever and we got NOTHING! We got stick fight in which he loses. Are you even kidding me?? This movie pissed me off in so many ways. In all honesty Disney should issue a retraction and proclaim this movie will no longer be part of the trilogy and try again. It's that bad. Like literally. Poor Mark Hamill. I feel for the guy

This movie destroyed everything meaningful about this franchise. How can anyone even go back to the original films and have any respect for Luke and his hero's journey knowing how things turn out in the end? I saw the original in 1977 and Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson ruined it. The second most offensive aspect of this movie, (after destroying Luke's entire back story, and character), was the in your face social social justice diatribe. We have General Gender Studies, a character nobody ever heard of or cares about, who comes off as a cringeworthy parody of social justice, dying in a manner that would have probably have been better suited for Ackbar, (who was simply blasted out of his ship in a battle). Under Kathleen "the force is female" Kennedy and Rian "tear it all down" Johnson's treatment, nobody has to be special or go through any personal journey and rigorous training to be a Jedi; heck everyone can do it. After two movies, it is obvious that Rey can do anything, so it is impossible for her to grow as a character. This movie was really bad, full of plot holes and contrivances, involving characters nobody cares about. This is a Disney reboot and retelling of the entire franchise that destroys the entire cannon and replaces it with SJWs that will rule the galaxy where white men are either evil or goofs. It is perfectly possible to have strong women characters without demeaning men. Laura Dern's character was an absolute joke. I am now rooting for the First Order to destroy these cringeworthy characters (not that I will see the next installment). The franchise, outside of marketing porgs, is dead. The Last Jedi? No. The First Mary Sue.

It was so poorly done that you couldn't try and screw it up any more than they did. It answered no questions, was lazily written, and made no attempt to even try and connect the stories. Shame on Rian Johnson and Kennedy in making such trash. They were given a Ferrari and only needed to not crash it. Instead they drove into the grand canyon.

Yes, it doesn't become canon unless we believe it is. The masses. Too many are convinced that the movies is all Star Wars is. There's a whole expanded universe of Books, Games, Comics, and Animated Series that's way more complete, and magnificent than the trash recent films. Start with the books by Timothy Zahn that carry off where the Return of the Jedi ended. Then theres the animated series like Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, screw Disney, we will override them in deciding what's canon.

Anyone who thinks Leia-freakin'-Superman is canon should have their head examined. THAT ONE SCENE was the "get-off-board" moment on my accepting the new direction. Plain and simple. NOTHING that retarded ever occurred in the Expanded Universe. And Snoke's stupid death scene was the final nail in the coffin for me, where I finally had to admit to myself that I am not enjoying this story at all. If it weren't for the fact that my ticket cost money, I would have waked out at that moment. Sitting through the rest of the movie was a painful endurance....

A corollary of this: most of the positive reviews have come from people who are not Star Wars fans, as in essence they delight in the subversive goading of those fans. So the movie is being applauded for the degree to which it sticks a middle finger up at the people who loved the IP.
It's baffling to me that such an action should be encouraged. It's like making a High School Musical movie that features no musical numbers whatsoever, announcing that this is bold and subversive, then laughing at upset HSM fans and calling them "salty" for being so stuck in the past.

His Ego was stronger than his caring of fans. With the decision of JJ Abe and tossing out the EU. They could go and have the high arrogance to think they could rewrite a whole new universe in one go, better than all the writers before who all collaborated for many years to get things right. Thank God we still have the EU and it's strong development. Maybe it will become so large it just totally overshadows the films and they will give up trying to do it their own way with each new Director and just follow what works.

Wow. Bravo. I agree with you 100%. You sound just as defeated as I feel.
In my circle of friends (read: nerd group), everyone in the group is an expert in some area of nerd/geekdom, but we all share an interest in Star Wars. While the interest is shared, I'm far and above the Star Wars expert, the fanatic. I spent 19 years engrossed in the expanded universe material. I read comics. I bought books. I played games. I sought out everything I could find. I could out-trivia anyone on the subject of Star Wars.
So when Disney bought Lucasfilm, I was incensed when the decision was made to nix the EU in favor of Disney's own forthcoming continuity...a decision no doubt made because of its greater monetization potential. We've had three Disney Star Wars movies, and each one has beaten the fan out of me. I was upset with _TFA_ from the first sentence of the initial text crawl and was angry when I left the theater. For being such a "super fan", I thought JJ had done a pretty poor job in the details. _Rogue One_ was a story I didn't think needed to be told. It was pretty, but the characters were wholly uninteresting, and if reports are to be believed, the initial write/cut of the movie would have been far better than what the rewrite/reshoots gave us. Ashamedly, I admit that the hype for _TLJ_ grabbed me up and carried me along through the premiere night. I was puzzled at some of Rian's choices as I watched the movie, but went to bed that night feeling decent about the experience. The next day, when I began to process the movie, I realized I'd been duped. And after much consideration, I realized that _TLJ_ removed any expectation I had for Episode IX. For the first time ever in my life, I didn't care where the next Star Wars movie went, and that has been _one of_ the most disappointing realizations I've ever had.
My nerd group has been pretty positive about the movie, and that, too, has been a supreme disappointment. Adding to the frustration of it all is that my opinion seems to carry no weight whatsoever in the time that Disney has been in ownership of Star Wars, so I've kept my dissatisfaction to myself. I came to RUclips to verify I wasn't just being a nitpicker, and you have plucked the words right out of my mind. Again, bravo. I could not have said it better myself. You apologize for making some of your points in a hyperbolic manner, but the manner only speaks to your passion for Star Wars and the massive defeat you feel thanks to TLJ.
To conclude: From my personal perspective, *Disney* ruined Star Wars, but TLJ was the last straw. I come to Star Wars for the adventure, the characters, the escapism. Hollywood seems to think that politics, SJW talking (read: shouting) points, and nihilism need to be an integral part of all "entertainment" these days, and nothing is further from the truth.

Thank you for sharing, Joshua Knight. I read every word. I, too, was in the minority opinion among my friends when The Force Awakens came out. Luckily, one of my best friends and I were on the same page for Rogue One and The Last Jedi. It is great to have someone with which you can relate your frustrations. If I could be that person for you, than editing this long video was worth it. I didn't make this review to upset people who enjoyed The Last Jedi. I'm glad they enjoyed it. I made this video for those who didn't enjoy it and feel alone. I hope you are well in the New Year!

I felt the same way. I left feeling decent but as the movie processed I got angry because this film felt like a slap in the face as someone who idolized Luke as a kid and been a fan for the better part of 19 years watching the movies, buying toys, playing games, and reading books and now watching the franchise I love be destroyed.

That's strange. Would have thought that nerds hate it even more. I don't consider myself a nerd, neither my family nor my friends. Still from all these people only one person really liked the movie. Namely my brother, whose favourite movie franchise is Transformers...
Everyone else complained about the many plotholes, stupid character decisions and out of place humour.

You summed up exactly how I felt. I was alright when I came out and thought it was "good" or at least "alright".

      Sad, sad feeling.

This movie is a mess... The only way to fix it would be episode 9 starts with Rey waking up after a long sleep on the millennium falcon at the end of TFA... and the whole of episode 8 being a bad dream she had....
    Totally erasing it from Canon...
And while I’m on that subject, why not sign up on the petition currently running to get Disney erase it from SW canon!

Why not have Luke/Leia/Han waking up the morning after Endor, both having the same dream/force vision (Disney Star Wars where all heroes faill) and deciding to never give up and de-canonize all of Disney with it (and go back to the old Expanded Universe ;) )
Honestly, this is the only way for me to interpret this trash without running mad about how LucasFil could have made TLJ happen.

Kathleen Kennedy is in charge of this pile of shit. She is obsessed with women in roles in and off the film, that she has 6/8 writers women. I have no problem with women doing it but you can tell they got hired for their gender opposed to having good ideas(The story was complete shit with no imagination and poor writing ) . She is wearing shirts that say '' force is female '' and just about every interview she is in talks about women in roles. Then attacks the male audience as not having to cater to them, who actually the ones who built this brand mainly.
She promised George she would take care of the Characters. THAT WAS A LIE !
Rey is a Mary Sue ! Stronger then all before her, with no training needed, Just knows everything with ease.
No doubt a creation of Cuntleen kennedy to gather in more female fans but iit just ruins the story.
Teased the fans in episode 7 of just having Luke in the film for 10 seconds.
Episode 8, now Luke is a attempted child Killer just because he sensed some dark side from Ben, by the way is not Luke. Luke would never do that. This is Cuntleen Kennedy degraded the character Luke and killed off the real hero, to make way for the new SJW sw.
This fucking dumb cunt is getting nearly none of the responsibility for this train wreck when she is the one in charge. Ruin Johnson is just a Yes man.

Nobody is really disputing that, but the story telling mechanisms in episode 7 were better. It at least had good story continuity, and the characters were set up well and interesting. Luke: “Is the dark side stronger?”
Yoda: “No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.”
In this new trilogy, Rey takes the path of the dark side in that she gets Force powers too easily, while Kylo Ren, the underwhelming heir of the Skywalker lineage, has trained his whole life, which is more of the original concept for the light side. The light and dark side’s have literally been inverted in the new trilogy, where the light path is actually the dark side, and the dark path is actually the light side.

I really thought it would be an interesting twist that Rey had been using the dark side all along, thus explaining her rapid growth with the Force, and it would've added some interesting conflict and would partially justify how rapidly she learned. Sadly, it seems there just is no explanation for Rey's power.

As Clint Eastwood said in Unforgiven, " 'Deserves' got nothing to do with it." It would've been nice if the films had been well-made, but not because of anything to do with any fandom. Good films are simply preferable to lousy ones. After all the bad-mouthing, some of it very personal in nature, that Lucas got from fans after the prequels, I can't say I feel sorry for them.

The biggest problems with The Last Jedi are:
    1. Disrepecting Luke's char (rejecting Hope & The Force, pussying out to show up personally, still dying anyway)
    2. Pointless B Stories - Rose & Finn's pointless story sucked as well as serving no purpose.
    3. No payoffs - All the hype and questions surrounding Ep 7 are ruined and made pointless (Snoke's identity, Rey's parents, Luke's Return)

Trumping all of these is the sheer lack of any internal logic or consistency, even within the scope of a single scene. How did the First Order become so powerful? Where are the rest of the Republic forces? Why are people using space bombers against capital ships? How does that even work?
Why is Hux now an incompetent fool? How can BB-8 hijack a scout walker and use it to kill dozens of troopers? Why on earth are Finn and Rose flying speeders in a combat situation, when neither of them know how to fly? (They are, respectively, a sanitation worker and a maintenance engineer.)
How the hell does hyperspace become a lethal weapon without this destroying the logic of all previous space battles? How does Rose's reason for saving Finn make any sense at all thematically? Why does the damage to the Supremacy kill or wound almost everyone in the hangar bay aside from Rose and Finn? Why does Phasma reappear at the other side of the hangar, untouched? Why is there suddenly a turret emplacement in the middle of a hangar?
The script reads like it was written by a teenager. The basic craft of writing is almost entirely missing. The film is a disaster.

So much hype when Rey showed up to give Luke his Lightsaber only to have him throw it over his shoulder...are effing kidding me...WTF!!! He is a Jedi Master, the storyline could been so much better and it wasn't, we should of gotten to see his raw power and we didn't, we should have seen Luke do so,so much more and we didn't...... In these clips Mark tells it like it is and he is pissed and he should be about the whole thing, his role should of been so much bigger. So he hit the nail right on the head.....

This is important. Mark Hamill doesn't hate the movie or agree with me. He disagreed with the direction his character was taken in but acted professionally and did his job. The quotes I use at the beginning of my review were initial thoughts directed toward a single character and not the finished product. I do, however, stand by my comments that he was "warning" fans in these interviews about Luke's character being very different than before. Even though Mr. Hamill ultimately was convinced his character's changes were for the best, he was clearly communicating that audiences should adjust their expectations. As this is only my third review, this neglect for full context is a rookie mistake, which I feel a bit guilty about. I wasn't expecting this video to receive this much attention, and I thank those of you who can overlook my nasally voice and anger to appreciate the criticisms made above.

Saw Ep IV 5 times in theater in 77. SW is Luke’s story - A hero’s journey - We’ve waited too long to see him bitter and alone pulling a mind trick from a distance - Every Jedi Master has died or stood up to their foe in person - Yoda passed from old age but even he fought face to face when needed - he should have raised the XWing and fought face to face to a glorious end or martyrdom to allow the rebels escape - we would have cheered. SW should be watched in order released. We all knew it was Luke’s story. Watched in order of episode #’s it’s Darth’s story and Luke is a minor character. Except we’ve all gone on Luke’s ride since 1977. To treat him this way and not acknowledge the journey that created the fan base Disney enjoys is short sighted. Fans will not be making fan fic, radio dramas, videos, or watching this film repeatedly for decades. Yet EpIV will still be viewed when we are long gone.
The journey is over I was less pissed off when I watched the Holiday Special on broadcast tv. At least that gave us Bobba Fett.

Some one made a comment that this is an intentional, two step process
Think about it. (food for thought)
1)Kill off the OG character and make them look bad for the new generation.
Replace them with the new characters, and kids will buy em.
New characters then make more than the old, so the old products/character merch is stopped. ( no royalites to the old actors)
With no old characters, Dee$ney can truly do what ever they want the star wars name and rake in the cash in.
      2) Have Rian Johnson be the fall guy.
He makes a movie that does away with the old cast.
And when his trilogy (that was never going to happen) gets "cancelled"
it makes Da MAUS look good and makes them appear they are siding with the fans.
That was someone else's idea not mine.

I agree, I wanted to see Luke going on adventures guiding the new characters and doing epic Jedi stuff seeing how powerful he's become in the Force. I thought it would have been cool if the Luke was aboard the Resistance cruiser and one of the characters say something like "Commander Skywalker's X-wing has landed" and everyone salutes him he walks across the bridge and sees Leia and they hug and later have a heartfelt talk or reminisce about their memories of Han. Also, why was there no memorial service for Han? Captain Solo, war hero. 😭

You captured it perfectly. My friend is saying "at least it was new". New is not always better. Also to be honest I felt throughout the film "does this director have any original ideas?". Certain turning points are not seen in star wars before but the story is just an incohesive cut of previous star wars movies with some nonsense scenes between them. Start with the non hyperspeed chase from EP5, new rey training with a goofy jedi master who doesnt want to train her yet still does, trainee leaving master before ready, then cut to EP6 elevator scene with LITERAL LINES TAKEN and the whole sequence taken from EP6. Only the finish differs a bit. Also lets find an old gambler friend who can help us but will betray us in the most key moment. Then we get the start of EP5 with the walkers, then Ep4 with Luke's obi wan moment. Then in a totally new and surprising fashion a spit in the face. Good job. Just used old elements to lead to nonsensical scenes just for the sake of surprise. And then the galaxy can get a sliver of hope. Even though they just deastroyed a megasuper death star a week ago and lost one of the heroes of the rebellion. But NOW that Luke...does the galaxy even know what happened to him? I dont think so. Yet it brings hope to the galaxy. Brings hope to all SEVEN HEARTS WHO SURVIVED FROM AT LEAST 6000 PEOPLE WHO ARE CHEERING AFTER LOOSING ALL THEIR FORCES. And the whole movie done in that stupid tone. I feel like they made it for 6 year olds.

The movie is an empty vessel, has no substance and is unimaginative. It did not expand the UNIVERSE, but shrunk it so far as to become insignificant. Go see it if you have never seen a SW Movie, otherwise stay well away...in another galaxy far, far, away....

Every single word & emotional outburst of this review is 100% spot on! Sadly to say, unfortunately. When the majority of fan films out there can do so much better, with no budget at all, then the shit is truly hitting the fan! I wish we were in some horrible nightmare we could wake up from eventually, that we could escape from this Twilight Zone if we only find the way out or that this is just a projection from Pennywise that sends us our greatest fears of what SW one day could turn out to be. But this is no joke or bad dream or alien influence that messes with our brains to make us believe in a lie. This is reality. No wonder we wanna escape reality into fantasy when reality is this shitty. Except that Sw always used to be one of the best escapes from reality there ever was. Apparently, Disney/Lucasfilm doesn't want us to escape & feel better about it. There is a lot they don't care about as it has turned out.
You also mentioned the very word I myself summon up TLJ. The word is meaningless. Thanks to TLJ, the history of SW has become meaningless, both in the saga itself but also in reality of us fans. Why has SW actually survived as long as 40 years? Remember, it was gone for a long time after 1983 until 1997! If not for the wonderful & literally lifesaving Expanded Universe we would maybe not even have SW anymore. But besides the EU, what kept SW alive all this time, & especially after the Internet came to our lives & the Prequels didn't deliver? The fact that the SW fanbase loves to talk about SW, speculate, theorize, have wishful thinking & desires of what might happen next back & forth in the time line. Endless debates & discussions. the fans became like the Force itself! SW fandom penetrates us & binds us together & we are everywhere on this planet! TFA was too much of a love letter to a lot of people, myself included. But I far more prefer getting predictable clichés that I know, love & recognize than something that is bold, takes risk & gives us all the middle finger just because we love the very product they are producing! TLJ is telling us that what has kept SW alive as a franchise, the biggest we've ever had so far in movie history, has no meaning anymore because Disney now owns the shit & we are getting NEW SW now that cares not for the past or our feelings. 40 years of movie history & millions of people's love for it is literary told by a single installment in it that all that no longer matters, that we MUST accept this change. Change is one thing, change is good, when it happens slowly & naturally 6 for the right reasons. But a total replacement of everything & neglect of all old that is not the same as change.
A lot of characters die in this movie, big characters as well as mere foot soldiers, on both sides. All those deaths, including Luke's & Snoke's deaths, end up meaning, yep, nothing. Everything that was being built up, in previous films & even in TLJ itself, was meaningless, including Han Solo's death. Was meaningless, guys. That Luke once did the impossible & redeemed his father, that was in the long run meaningless. Finn's story & himself as a character, meaningless. Especially since he never evolved himself & his mission didn't change anything at all, besides that even more got killed. Sure, they gave those slave kids some hope, but why do we care when we never learn who these kids are? Luke left a map behind so the right people could find him when they truly needed him. That was meaningless, even if that was THE big plot point of TFA! Snoke is already dead, a full episode too early, which is the result of amateur writing & complete lack of knowledge of story structure. Fully agree in what you said about Snoke, who is the very reason why EVERYTHING is happening. That was the very reason why we for 2 years wondered & theorized who & what he was, how he got command of the First Order, just how did he corrupt Ben Solo to the Dark Side & most importantly, what the hell does he want! What is Snoke's end game? Domination of the galaxy? Or something else entirely? But, thanks to complete lack of professionalism & common sense, even if we afterwards should by any chance learn anything about Snoke in any novel or game or TV show or even in Ep 9, it no longer matters! Unless they have trolled us & Snoke is in fact not dead & that it was all a trick. But even that is retarded story telling. Personally, I liked the way Snoke got killed, it rhymes with how Palpatine got whacked. But it happened WAY TOO SOON for this to be satisfactory! You said it, what the hell can Ep 9 now be about? Kylo or anyone else can never fill Snoke's shoes as a master villain. And your story is never better than your villain. Which means that Ep 9 now has no story. Snoke, who had the clear potential to become our next Palpatine/Sauron/Voldemort ended up being meaningless. Everything in TLJ is just destruction & death & disappointments. It is meaningless. And all the stuff it adds, new planets, new creatures, new Force abilities, who the fuck cares about all the new stuff that in all honesty is actually cool when it still has no meaning what so ever!?
Luke was so out of character. Seriously, how could they do this to us!? They made him a weak coward. he should have been in isolation to avoid capture while trying to find a way to stop Snoke & the First order, to seek new knowledge in the Force, having reached the insight that the Jedi need to change to what it originally was supposed to be. He should have been a broken man but never without determination. Luke Skywalker, sensing the Dark Side in his own nephew, the son of his twin sister & best friend, is tempted by the Dark Side, even for just a second, & decides to murder him in his sleep!? I keep asking, what freaking Twilight Zone is this!? Luke would turn that lightsaber on himself than his own flesh & blood or any student under his guidance! Not only is TLJ a symbol of what the term WTF means, it is also so much wasted potential. We never got any proper or meaningful Jedi training, Rey never really learned anything she didn't already know or could figure out herself eventually. Nor did Rey never help Luke to find himself again &/or help him find what he came to that island to learn or figure out either. Was this the first Jedi Temple? Why was this only a gave & some steps? As SW locations go that must be the biggest letdown ever. The Knights of Ren, led by Kylo, should have found the island & forced Luke into action. Talk about a magnificent action scene we never got! the perfect entrance of the Knights of Ren at last, giving Luke his reason to get back into the game AND ignote the green for a proper reason instead of a murder attempt on a child! We were also denied the confrontation between Luke & Snoke, between the two Masters. Snoke clearly feared Skywalker, it had been nice to see why! So much potential just wasted while we are at the same time being told to kill the past that is the reason why we pay for this crap. Disney/Lucasfilm is truly biting the hand that feeds them! When they make SW meaningless & the fans that love it along with it.
Many indeed say that we SW fans are never happy or content, we just bitch & complain. Indeed we do. But there's a reason why we do. Because a long time ago, in a galaxy very, very near, we were given three films, today known as the original SW trilogy, & those three films were QUALITY films! Not without flaws but they had quality nevertheless. The reason why we complain now is because we were given quality from the get go & why is it wrong that we still want that? Why is it wrong to ask for the same good that we once used to get? We are more than willing to pay for it, too! So many times over. But we are getting so tired of being screwed over, again & again, by people that wanna prosper on the SW brand but don't give a shit about the saga itself or the millions that follow it.

Imylover I am 100% with you. You give us enough reasons as to why Disney and Lucas art should be put on trial for killing the dream! When you wish upon a star... Seem to no longer mean a good thing! So much potential wasted on this stupid version of the reality that could have been SW TFJ! I saw SW ANH in one of the few Buenos Aires Argentinian theatres it was showing in 1977. I was 16 yrs old and my closest cousin literally forced me to come and see it even though it was subtitled into Spanish and we spoked no English! We did not understand all that was going on but to us Star Wars was an amazing movie! I was truly hoping the Last Jedi would be that again! Why could it not be? They had the fan base, the money, the actors, the technology, the music, the other movies, books, video games and the animated series to reference from, the robots, the market was already screaming to buy whatever they wished to sell us...Disney had everything!...everything but not the "soul" nor "the magic" of the original saga and I fear that there is a darker undertone to this "farce" for it went out of its way to make it all meaningless as you have mentioned. I took my children to see the other SW movies as they came out yet I am not a die hard fan. I really liked the clone wars animated series for the back stories it brought and though I still do not agree with everything George Lucas did to his original first movie I too own a mock lightsaber and too much SW Lego. But TLJ did not go the way I hoped and has made a mockery of everything the fans have enjoyed in the last 40 or so years! If the movie was not made for the fans and the new audience were not in aw as I was in 1977, who has then benefited from this fiasco? I guess we will never know!

Then why does he act out as though he has never learned this lesson by trying to kill Kylo? Makes no sense. I just saw several have already made this point below, but I hope Disney just stops here.

This movie, even when ignoring the other films or Star Wars in general, is simply a mess.
Bad writing, stupid humor and completely ignoring TFA.
I liked the TFA (although only after viewing it a second time) and Rogue 1. There was tension, there was humor (but not in a ridiculous way), but most importantly, after watching these movies I wanted more.
There is none of that in TLJ, each time I thought "Hey, this might get interesting" it amounted to nothing.
Each and every time the most illogical outcome is chosen for any plotpoint. This also applies to all the plot points carried over from TFA.
Characters are underdeveloped, dramatic or tense moments lose their impact because of the stupid (slapstick) jokes and the end result is that I did not care about anything that happened.
And you described exactly how I felt after watching this mess, I don't care about what comes next. What is left for J.J. Abrams to work with? This movie sort of already concluded the trilogy (dilogy?).

Will Nitschke I had hopes Luke was actually doing something important, and that Rian would flesh out what was going on in the republic. Don't get me wrong, I didn't care for TFA, but I did cling to hope for the franchise. TLJ to me was Disney saying 'oh, you care about this? Fuck you"

"Destroy my childhood hero". And that was the point. These movies are statement pieces, nothing more. They are meant to deconstruct cultural icons, trash them, and replace them with concepts of "diversity", and "feminism". They destroy Luke because he symbolizes classic heroism, and knighthood, embodied in a simple man. Cultural Marxists abhore tradition, traditional mythology, and traditional ideals. Destroy the world, and rebuild it into what you want it to be. They clearly state for you exactly what they want to do with this franchise; let the past die... kill it if you have to.
