Disney is like Darth Vader if he killed Luke Skywalker and went full Anakin Skywalker from Epsode 3 mixed with Anakin from Epsode 2 and has the voice of young Anakin.
This really echoed so many of my thoughts! Great content as always. Really solid editing. Also, thank you for putting the dismemberment and burning scenes together. I was arguing this point just this week.
To Stratowind = Yes, training in the Force is more metaphysical than physical. Robot Head was just highlighting how Rey zero-to-hero progress goes against the decades of lore that was established by the franchise. Maybe it is true that "darkness rises and light to meet it," but it was like Rey won a the space magic Powerball lottery without even purchasing a ticket. That blind guy in Rouge One needed years of training. Yoda studied and instructed the Force for centuries, and he still needed extra training by Qui-Gon Jinn. There's around three years between Episodes 5 and 6, in which Luke spent time privately training, so he could help save Han Solo and go toe-to-toe with Darth Vader. Typing of Vader, Anakin Skywalker, the immaculately conceived, off-the-scale midi-cholorean percentage, Chosen One of the Force, needed years of training in order to become a person that even Emperor Palpatine feared. Therefore, it becomes an incredible hard pill to swallow that Rey was able to do all that she could within the span of at best 96 hours? Yoda was a Master Jedi for hundreds of years, but he needed his full concentration to life Luke's X-wing out of the swamp. Rey lifted dozens of boulders on her first try, and she din't even have a frown on her face. And even if Rey basically "downloaded" Ben Solo's training during the mind probing, that still means that Ben Solo had years of training by Luke Skywaker (and presumably Snoke) to become badass enough to conduct a casual conversation while suspending blaster fire in mid-air. As I've often said about Episode 7... The Force doesn't just awaken in Rey. It got up, showered, shaved, put on its clothes, at breakfast, drove out of the garage, and is on its way to the office. LOL
"You don't like strong women." It's not the characters, it's how they're written. Look at Ahsoka. In the Clone Wars movie, she was just a cliche cartoon character. A lot of fans hated her. Then, over the course of the series, she became a legitimately strong character with her own moral compass and even developed her own views on the Jedi Order in general. Hell, she became one of the most important factors in Anakin's fall. Then came Rebels, where she became one of the most important people in building the Rebel Alliance. She went from being seen as a completely pointless (and kind of annoying) character to being a fan favorite because of good writing and storytelling.
EXACTLY! Add Cara Dune, Bo-Katan, Leia Bastila Shan and Mara Jade from Star Wars legends. All those I have listed are amazing female characters that are badass.
Luke gets handed his lightsaber in TLJ. The same lightsaber that once belonged to his "dead" father. The same father that cut his hand off in a sick father vs son duel. The same father that he watched die after finally turning against the Emperor in RoTJ and finally gets closure after enduring unimaginable pain. He then just tosses the weapon aside as if it held no meaning to him...are you fucking kidding me?
The idiots writers were looking for surface shock value of people watching, not for any meaningful reasons. The whole movie was based upon WTF moments, just to see the puzzlement on peoples' faces, which the evaluators recorded as positive enthusiasm.
Rian was just subverting our expectations. I walked into this movie expecting a competently written and directed film that would be at least somewhat entertaining. Boy, were my expectations subverted!
Wait, Rian said that he hated how Luke got beaten by Vader in Empire? wtf, how could Vader not wipe the floor with Luke in that movie? I guess that explains why Rey is so perfect.
@@somepriest9700 I think the poor bastard misunderstood the comment. There's no way in heaven or earth to actually think that the new movies are well written
I refuse to believe that he said that, its impossible that someone who lacks this much of basic understanding for storytelling was allowed to direct a multi billion dollar movie.
I'm 55 years old. At age 11, in 1977, I was Luke for Halloween. Since light sabers weren't even on store shelves, I made mine from a flashlight and plastic tube, like almost every other 11 year old I knew. I was such a fanboy that in 1999 I was able to find a few brain cells which could like Jar Jar. And THIS is the film that made me go "Star Wars? Meh."
@@snarflechopper2098I'm a prequel lover and if the popular (and wrong) opinion is any indication, my hating the sequels should say a whole lot about their quality LMAO
To be fair, a supporter of something might support it for different reasons than another supporter. Or better put, that multiple arguments for something which contradict eachother, because it is not a single individual that holds conflicting thoughts but multiple individuals with different views than eachother which lead to a similar conclusion.
@@Raptor302 How do we make this character likable? Giving her a compelling story, believable quirks and shortcomings? Making her grow as a character? NAH, Just hand her everything cool for no reason! Fans will LOVE that!
Disney: "let the past die" Also Disney: "we're gonna re-use everything from the originals and bank on the nostalgia fans have for the franchise because we've contributed nothing new of any substance"
As a star wars fan, i watched the sequels when they came out. I didn't like them, but that's besides the point. I remember before the last jedi came out, i was kinda exited to see how luke would be portrayed. Than, i overheard something my sister said. She said apparently, luke gets the lightsaber, and and just throws it behind him. I swear, i literally hoped so hard, that she was wrong. I actually didn't even believe her. I thought "no way luke would do such a thing". And.... well, you all probably saw the movie.
I agree there were certainly just dumb things that ruined the other movies like burning the Jedi tree, Luke throwing the lightsaber and the magical fairy flight in space
By now I have spend more minutes watching people telling me whats wrong with this film than I spend watching the actual movie. This is way more entertaining.
The fact that Mark Hamill tried to warn everyone made me like and respect him even more. You can tell he actually cares about the fans. After Force Awakens I only watched Last Jedi to see Mark Hamill's performance as Luke. He's a great actor too bad he wasn't allowed to actually play Luke.
I felt the most betrayed when they re-shot the first meeting between Rey and Luke probably more so than at any point ever during any entertainment. And I'm talking video games books movies etc. The fact that Johnson had to re shoot the end of TFA to coincide with his 'vision' or wtv the fuck you call it for star wars in a conscious effort to subvert fans should have been an eye opener for Kathleen. You can't take those moments back from people. Cinema doesn't work like that TFA. With that said hopefully JJ hss the balls to do to Johnson what Johnson did to him and reshoot the last scene from TLJ and maybe let Luke collapse on that rock instead. I can only imagine the thunderous applause that would get. Its only fair.
Hammill actually cares about Star Wars as did the prequels actors you know Harrison Carrie Alec couldn’t give a fuck about it and neither does Kathleen Kennedy as her feminist nonsense what happens to movies actually writing lead characters for females blacks any race for actual reasons and then being great characters like tarrantino films. Thurman in kill bill Jackson in django pulp fiction, waltz in django bastards, Laurent in bastards, actress from Jackie brown, lol the actress who played go go yuburi who was quality and it I hate rose from last Jedi I’m a bigot racist ok yeh maybe start writing good characters and then you won’t be runing the industry with this diversity feminine nonsense. Thank god for tarrantino
I would have preferred Hammill refused to do the movies, that it was such a bad joke what they were doing to his character that they could either find someone else or write him out (and explain to fans his decision)... The reunion of the original three, which was a main selling point of these movies, was so putridly handled that it would be fair to describe it as false advertising and ripping off the fans... Hammill should have said shove it or rewrite it...
I've heard "but rey is palpatine's grand daughter" but luke's grandfather is the force and his dad is the most powerful jedi of all time and he still trained alot and failed at times

You realize that Luke did only train a couple times sure he loses once and then a year later wins which is a much shorter time then it takes most Jedi to train according to Lucas also Rey was trained by Luke who understands everything yoda taught him and probably can train her better than yoda could also maybe Rey is just more talented that Luke?
Henry Dobozy what the fuck? Rey barely even trained, and Yoda taught countless Jedi, where Luke had never taught anyone. It took a build up for Luke to be considered strong, and his skills are explained through his background. Rey is basically given everything, no one knows how she got good at scavenging, and theres no explanation for her to be overpowered. You don’t understand a bit of how characters are supposed to develop
I am actually genuinely curious how Rian thought that Luke getting his ass handed to him by Vader was a valid criticism to why ESB was bad, like, who comes up with that conclusion? How can someone not understand how character development works while also being a director in Hollywood? Who hired this guy?? Better yet, who the fuck taught this guy!?
In the liberal world, I mean Kennedy Uber liberal world, success in life requires no effort or training. No sacrifice. That's why Rey could use the force like a master.
@@saulesalejos4483 I mean it would've been better than what he did in The Rise of Skywalker which was absolutely jack shit. Ep3 and all of the Disney Stars Wars are PG13 in the US, which means the Motion Pictures Association of American recommends to those watching this film: Parents strongly cautioned - Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Doesn't sound like it's "made for kids"
There’s also a deleted scene of Luke grieving over Han’s death and it wasn’t in the actual movie but they had time to have Luke drink blue milk from a creature. Wtf?! Don’t you people dare tell me that that Han scene had the right to be deleted and the creature scene was worth including because it fit the story.
*Movie receives tons of negative criticism Directors and writers: "you're all just toxic and we are perfect. If you don't like it don't watch it" *People actually stop watching Directors and writers: **surprised Pikachu face*
I hear you man. Disney is garbage. It feels like I'm watching a comedy film instead of a film that's about the very serious nature of human beings killing each other for power, resources, domination, etc.
I going to fight every cell in my body that wants to go see episode 9. I've seen every star wars movie opening weekend (of recent years) and I brought 3 tickets to TLJ over 3 months before it came out. I walked out of the premiere, but return the next day to see I walked out just before Yoda showed up.
Mark Hamill loves his character Luke Skywalker and always embraced the Star Wars fans.. looking at him horrified and disagreeing with everything they wrote for Luke makes me sad. His last role as Luke was spoiled by TLJ.
@@miskatonic6210 At some point in life, money starts to be less of a motivator. I don't think Mark Hamill is in a situation where he is desperate for money and at that point, other things become much more valuable, like quality, time etc. I think Star Wars is a very important part of his life and seeing it getting ruined must be a heartbreaker for him.
Padme at least died logically, following a set of "rules" in the star wars universe: a force user used Force Choke, to suffocate her, leading to eventual death. "Rules" so simple that someone who's never watched Star Wars before can understand. HOW THE FUCK DO YOU EXPLAIN LUKE'S DEATH?! He uses "force projection" to cast a fake version of himself while still on his hermit world, all the fucking way to NotHoth, and DIES because his force projection got stabbed????!!! The only explanation I can think of is he became a Force Ghost like Ben Kenobi did, even then that's a stretch!
@@Manglet762 From what I got is that Luke expended all of his life energy making the hologram. Hence why the final chat with Leia happened. They both knew that Luke would die in the confrontation with Kylo, so they were happy to have the final chat (even with Luke ribbing her on her hair). Remember that Leia and Han wanted Luke to turn Kylo back to the light side? Basically Luke ended the force projection when Kylo saw through his tactic and he dies.
@@ertymexx It is clearly stated that using the force to that extent is tiring and consumes energy of the user. Luke's death was indeed lame as fuck, but not unlogical. Twin suns were a fucking nice touch tough.
But the moment Luke stepped out on the battlefield, NO ONE ELSE DIES IN THE REST OF THE MOVIE. He solves the problem in the most peaceful and logical way he can, like a Jedi is suppose to. What did you want and old CGI doing flips while taking down AT-AT? No. We got that in the prequels with Yoda and it was stupid
It’s sad to see how in almost every interview about the sequel trilogy Mark Hamill almost always seems to be in pain. He loved the franchise and being Luke Skywalker and then Disney killed it.

@@jonahdza Mark Hamill disagreed with an unnatural and unlikable take on Luke Skywalker, which feels like all his character development from the OG trilogy was completely destroyed. And yet he still went along with rian johnson’s vision. Rian Johnson openly said that his movie was better than empire, the greatest star wars movie. He doesn’t understand the concept of character development, or having characters people are attached to. You can’t go around mindlessly complaining about something you clearly do not understand. It’s ok if you like the last jedi, it’s not ok to disrespect Mark Hamill, who is one of the main reasons star wars is where it is today
I don't agree with Mark Hamill about a fair few things. But he absolutely cared about Luke Skywalker and Star Wars and they should have listened to him more.
Yoda come back from grave to slap Kylo in the nuts is more save, story ended, there will be no 10 ended with 9, or just added some clips in the mandalorian, it is enough no need to waste money just to fuk up excellent artpiece.
@@def3ndr887 yeah mostly well written imperial officers, didn't ruin old characters but added to their stories and rebels also had some masterpieces like ashokas fights, mauls fights/motives, sith involvement, kanan vs grand inq. And some of the aerial action like B-wing beating imperial blockade
You realize that Kylo is actually wrong in saying that right? You don't let the past die; you reflect on it, improve on it, and cherish the good moments without dwelling too much on it. Sure, you might argue that Yoda's burning of the Jedi Tree is a sign that he also believe this, but remember that the Ancient Jedi Texts were still intact (somehow) on the Falcon. I felt like Yoda was testing Luke, testing him and his beliefs, whether he actually wanted to burn the tree. This aside, I highly doubt that Rey is a nobody. It should be clear that she was serarching for answers in a clearly dark side-infested sinkhole, as well as her conversations with Kylo. I feel like the dark side is attempting to influence her, and because the dark side has been known to be more powerful in combat than the light side (the light side has been taught to use their powers to defend, not attack) and has possessed more abilities (force lightning), this would explain why Rey is so powerful, but she doesn't have a clue what the Force really is. But that's just my theory.
‘Han was frozen without a fight’ did they skip the scene at the dinner table where Han doesn’t hesitate to pull out a blaster on Vader? He just blocked it with the force and pulled the blaster out of his hand. Then they’re surrounded by troopers and boba. If you tried shooting the strongest man in the galaxy, then he just stopped the bullets with his hand and yanked your gun from hand, then you’re swarmed by troopers and the fiercest bounty hunter in the galaxy. What do you do at that point?
The lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker, the most powerful Jedi in all of history. Wielded by Anakin throughout the entirety of the Clone Wars. Lost when he turned to the dark side, and given to his son decades later. Used in a fight against its previous owner 3 years after it was handed down, lost once again after falling down a seemingly endless tunnel And then, 30 years later, 29 after its very first owner redeemed himself and passed on into the force afterlife, it’s handed back to that man’s son... And he fucking chucks it across his shoulder.
That moment was Rian being so arch in chucking away everything JJ set-up. Now, if he had written something decent that both subverted expectations and delivered an amazing adventure, he might have got away with that conceit but he didn't...
Stop being a manbaby!! it's just a stupid laser sword..u should be more concerned with the female empowerment in this amazing film! ..if Rian Johnson wasn't white and wasn't a male, I'd marry him in a ceremony led by a lesbian priest and attended only by members of the LGBT community. You should all just go watch something else if you don't like it!!
Andrew McDermott - Filmmaker They could’ve had Luke shake his head solemnly and hand it back to Rey instead of chucking away like trash for cheap comedy.
@@gplgs4640 I do agree with that. Although I love Luke's arc and story in the film, the whole cliff-top sequence is problematic (even in TFA - It looks like he's taking a piss over the cliff-edge). I think the problem Johnson had was trying to make it a 'moment' instead of being anti-climatic. It had to look as if Luke resoundingly rejected it, instead of seeming to just not particularly care. The moment had to contain some feeling of 'shock' at his response, instead of disinterest, and simply handing it back may have been a slightly confusing response. Although the throw seems clumsy, his feelings are made very clear, so it does work on that level.

@@brooklynboiprod I half agree. I think 7 was a great movie, and Solo was an enjoyable ride too but not as good as 7 imo. Meanwhile 8 was the real dumpster fire, and I think Solo paid the price for that fire after people felt burned from 8. Solo deserved a better box office showing than 8, that's for sure.
"Just stop watching" Well if Solo's box office numbers being the lowest in franchise history for a live action film wasn't a good enough indicator, done.
Those were made for TV/VHS films and were not theater releases. Solo probably crushed the ewok film vhs sales totals in theaters and dvd/blu-ray sales but idk for sure on that, I'd be shocked if it didn't.
Fr the bad outcome had nothing to do with solo itself it's because they destroyed out expectations with the last 2 and made us not want to sit through another shut show

in relation to "you dont like female empowerment": Its also worth noting the original trilogy had a bunch of female empowerment. Leia was a bad ass in all the movies, rivaling han, threatening suicide bombing jaba, killing folks. In return of the jedi, the rebel mission to destroy the shield generators and take down the second deathstar was led by a woman. Its an insane argument to make.
I know I'm a year late, but I want to add on: People love to jerk off Thrawn, but the real core (and best, although that's subjective) plot of the EU was Jaina vs. Jacen/Caedus, at least until the dust of the Yuuzon Vong war cleared. For anyone unfamiliar, Jania and Jacen were Han and Leia's twins - specifically, Jania was their daughter. Not only was she beloved by fans, she was an objectively well-written character. AND her enemy being Jacen - who was her brother - added a unique, emotional layer that the Rey v. Kylo "enemies to lovers rehash # 9 million" could simply never possess. Apparently, Star Wars fans hate female characters so much that a lot of us are cross they replaced a female character with a worse-written female character.
The fact that he thinks Luke losing his first fight against Vader and Han surrendering to an entire army of Stormtroopers and the galaxy’s best bounty hunter is a *bad* thing tells you all you need to know about his understanding of storytelling.

Finn had about 10 different ways he could’ve gone and they all would’ve been great given his potential as character and the uniqueness of his circumstances and they literally did nothing with him and baited us for 3 films AND did John Boyega MAD DIRTY because he’s a great actor and deserved better.
"It's made for children." Even ignoring all of the violence and politics in this franchise and accepting that these are kids' movies, how is that an excuse? Why should kids' movies be held to a different standard? Is this argument to imply that it's impossible to write a good kids' movie and so we shouldn't expect Hollywood to try even though it's been done before?
Dr Shaym just because Star Wars isn't for children. I loved it when i was a kid. But i saw the decapitation, mutilation, anger, politics, explosions and death scenes. First fifteen minutes of episode one? You got two people obliterated by turbo lasers. And last fifteen minutes were Darth Maul killing Qui Gon Jinn and being decapitated at the waist. @@maxisdead2153 No. It's pretty terrible by any standard. The protagonist is completely undeveloped and exhibits skills that make no sense for her to have. None of the characters are fully flashed out. The only one that comes close is Ben and his development only works if you understand Vader's legacy.
Luke getting his ass handed to him by Vader was an important step in showing just how fearsome of an opponent Vader was and that Luke wasn't ready yet. This also meant that Luke could grow into the character we saw in Return of the Jedi... you know? Character growth? But it would require the most basic understanding of writing to recognize that, which Rian certainly doesn't have. No wonder he writes Rey as a Mary Sue when he thinks that the audience would consider it a bad thing if the heroes of the story fail.
Exactly right! If Rey got her ass kicked and lost an arm or a leg I would’ve had sooooo much more respect for this movie even though the other plot points were still trash.

I saw the documentary "The Director & The Jedi" about the making of THE LAST JEDI, it clearly demonstrates that Rian was WAAAY over his head and had no idea what he was doing. They spent an enormous amount of money and time to create scenes that had no meaning, purpose or reason for being in the movie. The millions they spent on making creatures that were never used, the props that were never used, the costumes for literally hundreds of actors and extras in the casino scenes that had no relevance, the locations that could have been done on a sound stage instead of exotic locations that didn't exactly amaze anybody, the fish cow that gave green milk was used only for one shot, and on and on and on.... Doomed from the start.
The worst part is that, if they didnt throw away the canon of the comics and books. Leia was supposed to be a very powerful and successful jedi but they never alluded to her training. Old canon would dictate not only could she pull herself back in from space but also use battle meditation to improve their odds and never would be in that situation to begin with

"maybe he's right," you think, "he is right, how do i fix it" The only higher authority on the character is George Lukas and you know even he'd be thinking the latter not the former.
It's not as simple as "just listen to the fans," as an example, look at the Call of Duty series. Whenever fans want something, they get it, but they usually hate it. Because the community is so divided that pleasing 50 percent of your audience makes the other 50 percent fucking hate it.
I'll never forget the moment I realized that the entire movie was going to be a slow chase scene where the bad guys were waiting for the good guys to run out of gas.
If Rian had accepted the criticism, I think we would all have been a lot more forgiving of him. But because he doubled down and started making up lies about Empire, and denying every valid criticism of his work, it's hard to treat him with respect.
@@jamesedleymusic the problem is rian obviously doesnt like star wars but he couldnt turn down the giant paycheck. His hatred for luke skywalker is just strange...
He also talks about Vader easily beating Luke in Empire Strikes Back. How is that bad? Does he think the good guys are meant to always win? Oh wait... I forgot... Rey beats Kylo Ren the first time she ever wields a light saber. So yes, he clearly does.
He kinda forgot the scene where Han immediately tried to blast Vader and had his blaster yoinked from his hands, also going down without a fight is not the same as accepting the fact that taking action in that instance would have caused more harm then good (I'm talking about the scene where he gets frozen in carbonite).
No no, I have rarely seen anyone “defend” TLJ, I usually only see excuses, attacks on fans and comparisons to other movies. When you DEFEND a movie you explain why it’s good, they never do that, because they can’t.
I don't care who disagrees with me, the Sequels are overall much better than the Prequels, in my opinion. Even as Trilogies, the Sequel Trilogy is overall better than the Prequel Trilogy, in my opinion. I've sat and watched the Prequels and getting through The Phantom Menace and Attack Of The Clones is absolute hell. Even Revenge Of The Sith (it's supposed to be the "good" Prequel) is boring and cringy at times but just not nearly as much as The Phantom Menace and Attack Of The Clones are. I love the Sequels/Sequel Trilogy. I also enjoy Rogue One and Solo as well. The Original Trilogy is still the best Star Wars Trilogy even though I find Return Of The Jedi to be overrated as well.
@@eisteepfirsich3358 Well you have bad taste then. The prequels have world building, give us some background and context, a storyarc, coherent individual stories, some original new ideas (aliens, worlds, technology) cool lightsaber duels, interesting characters, emotions... The sequels have none of that. They are just incoherent, messy, unoriginal ripoffs of the OT with some boring, pointless new characters. The two first prequels are watchable, and ROTS is the third best SW movie in my book. The Disney “Star Wars”... Only Rogue One is good, TFA is watchable because it is New Hope 2.0, the rest is trash, none are more trashy than TLJ.
@@Imlaor25 Have u even seen the whole trilogy? Every main characters backstory is detailed and makes sense. In the prequels, almost every character has no backstory or a backstory that can only be found in books. There's not a single information about Anakin's father in the whole trilogy, except of course, "He has no father".
@@eisteepfirsich3358 What are you talking about? Only Kylo have some sort of story. Rey- they obviously just make some new shit up in each movie, they didn’t really know what to do with her, except making her the strong savior of the Galaxy. The rest of them- absolutely not. And they are all pretty boring characters. I have recently heard Anakin was created by Palpatine. But the explanation we get in Phantom Menace is ok with me. He was created by the force, he is the chosen one, like Jesus. And we get his whole story from when he’s 9 years old and onwards, remember? But this was not what I was adressing in my first post here. Why do you think TLJ is good, let me hear?
@Imlaor25 I know you asked I_love_Carrots but since he didn’t answer I’ll try to explain a few things that makes TLJ good (sorry if my English is bad). First of all the cinematography in TLJ is probably the best of any SW movie so far and even if you say that things like the hyperspace ram doesn’t make sense it still looks cool and it does not ruin the movie. Second the thing about Rey being a marry sue doesn’t make sense either, if I’ve understood the term marry sue correctly its a character who lacks flaws or weaknesses, I personally like the fact that the force can grow strong within anyone even if that makes them very powerful and in this case it doesn’t make her unrealistically powerful. If it would be that case then she should have been able to kill snoke by herself, which she couldn’t. Also just the fact that she and her parents were nobody’s automatically gives her a flaw. If she was a marry sue then why would she need to get training from Luke and when she gets training she can’t use the force on command which is a flaw. She and her friends fails to save the resistance which serves the movie’s theme of failure, it’s only when Luke shows up that nobody else dies, does that mean he’s a marry sue? NO of course not! Because it serves the plot in a natural way, his return as a force hologram is built up after he realized his flaws and mistakes and took care of it. But back to Rey again, I can understand that people gets frustrated over the fact that Rey becomes a skilled Jedi without the movie showing us the training she did, the reason they didn’t show that training was because it wasn’t needed, we had already seen that she was good at fighting with a staff which is similar to a lightsaber, we also se her doing some training which isn’t really the sort of training you’d expect but it’s still training (she could also have trained of screen but that’s not really a good answer). It almost feels like I have to explain why the movie isn’t as bad as everyone say it is before I can even explain why it’s pretty good in my opinion. You shouldn’t have to explain why a movie isn’t bad before you give it a compliment. Anyways I do acknowledge that the movie has flaws like the cantobike scene or the humor but that doesn’t ruin the movie. It’s getting pretty late where I live so I’ll end my argument here but I’ll try to give more examples If you response and want to discuss anything about TLJ. Again sorry if I misspelled anything or made my arguments messy, English is my second language. I’d be happy to hear your opinion. May the force be with you always :)
So Rian Johnson said that Empire Strikes Back isnt good because Luke got stomped on by Vader? THATS THE POINT. Luke was an amateur, he had the lightsaber, trained here and there since Obi-Wan gave it to him, then trained under the former Jedi Grand Master, got cocky, ran off to fight Vader feeling invincible with newfound power and strength. But failed, he realized how outclassed he was and for the next year trained and became stronger and wiser. ESB Luke and ROTJ Luke are two different states of mind. Luke grows up throughout the OT movies. ESB is the turnaround. I cant believe that we have someone who is making Star Wars movies, that really doesnt care about the movies as a whole. George Lucas shouldnt have sold the franchise to Disney. Disney has made to much money out of pure greed, and not love of the series. Since George Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney, and Disney gave the license to EA. All we have seen is mediocre products by both. The few good things that have come out of this whole ordeal is The Clone Wars resurgence, Rebels, Rogue One, and the pure love of Star Wars from true fans of the series.
This man does not understand character arc. He believes every protagonist should be an expert at everything, no questions asked. No lesson, no struggle, no journey, no *arc.* All he wants to show is how the good guy beats the bad guy, again and again.
Can you blame Lucas for that? He wanted to retire after the backlash of many that drove the actor of Jar Jar nearly into suicide and ruined the childhood of Jake Lloyd who became a outburned outlaw. We don't make it better when we attack all the time. We should be reasonable and civilized like our God Obi-Wan"The Highground" Kenobi.
I wasn't a huge fan of Rebels, but it did get really good in the last season. I am a fan of how Disney has been handling Star Wars these last few months, the reveal of the Obi-Wan show is borderline historic, the Mandalorian looks fantastic, the return of the Clone Wars has me extremely excited and Jedi Fallen Order already has my pre-order.
The direction Star Wars is going hurts me. Genuinely. As a little kid, I used to get into fights with my brother over who got to be Luke when we played around in the yard with our toy lightsabers. I couldn't wait for it to snow because it meant that I could pretend I was on Hoth. I had every Star Wars Lego set. I worshipped those Movies, even the prequels. I watched Episode II probably 100 times. And to see a company just shit on their fans, too see the man who brought my childhood hero to life so dissapointed in the current franchise... it just hurts man.
I was the same. I had maybe ten lightsabers in my basement and me and my brother would play with them. We also had toy blasters that we would also play with. A New Hope was my favorite movie of all time as a kid, followed closely behind by Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (I thought the prequels were good as well, but I was like six at the time). And now Star Wars has been handed over to people that have converted to the EA religion of just trying to put a shitty product out there, just to make money and nothing more, even at the expense of angering fans of the franchise.
The last airbender movie made over $300 million and movies like Birdemic have huge profitmargins. Marketing is the most important factor in the box-offise, not quality.
i thought the most "not-anticipated" was Solo... i mean, after Ep 8 i walked out the theater thinking how NOT excited i am about the continuation of the overall story... but still i only went to Solo because i got a free ticket from a friend lol
Some ppl are looking forward to EP9 cuz it's the one who has the possibility to make sense of all of the mess. If you ask me movie 7 and forward are the true non canon versions. I'd rather kick back and read the Star Wars novel Heir to the Empire etc.
Pretty much. Can't wait to see how the heroes who've managed to humiliate and beat the villains for 2 movies easily will struggle to do so for a third time.
you don't see the Russo brothers or any MCU actor complaining about toxic fandom why???? because they are making great movies the Lucasfilm people should worry on making good Star Wars movies instead of making excuses
they make movies that, yes, subvert expectations there's not one single theory about where the Soul Stone could be that was better than what was shown on Infinity War it is a movie adapting a very well known comic book, that still manages to be fresh
Oh no, I don't trust the MCU after they hired Brie Larson. And all those fucking comments she made ever since she was hired confirmed me not going to see Captain Marvel. And if I see her as the leader of the new Avengers, I'm checking out. I know for sure in this new era, people don't accept or like these SJW Actors and I truly know for sure Captain Marvel will fail to break even. And truth be told, I legitimately hope when it does, Marvel Studio's actors and workers attack the fans like LucasFilm did with The Last Jedi, forcing a massive boycott from the fanbase making Avengers Annihilation not break even.
My heart goes out to the original cast that reprised roles for these new films. The horror of having to witness a beloved franchise that you helped create and bring to life being turned into this deformed and grotesque figure that bares no resemblance to what came before it must have been unbearable as witnessed by the look on Mark Hamill's face...
I've been watching alot of SW reviews of the latest movies cause I refused to watch them, and I might cry from the sheer debauchery of it all. They didnt watch the originals to know why it worked. Kathleen Kennedy didnt know about (or lied) the books. Mind blowingly incompetent. Actually speechless. Your a million dollar company head in charge of one of the largest franchises in history and you didnt know they made books? No one told you? Is this a jedi mind trick?
audiogarden21 yes Disney care about money. If they could kill people that criticized them without anyone knowing it was them they would. They just care about money. This is beyond heartbreaking
It's even more apparent when you learn that the reason Han got killed was because Harrison Ford literally asked them to do it because he was so done with the franchise.
I took my 74 year old mother to watch Empire during the reopening of the theaters. Her idea and it was amazing watching it on the silver screen again. We spent the rest of the day talking about it. Timeless.
“Hyperspace is too expensive as a weapon” ...Didn’t they win a freakin’ hyperdrive from a winged aardvark thing on a sandtrap of a planet for winning one race in Phantom Menace... hyperdrives don’t seem that valuable.
Counterpoint: the empire and later the first order could’ve put heavy restrictions on space travel that the rebellion and republic could’ve had a difficult time dealing with. Counter-counterpoint: the first order was only in control of half of the galaxy, encouraging smuggling and the progress of technology would’ve made ships far less expensive as a whole. (This assumes the “rebellion” was fairly laissez faire, which given the producers of the new films seems iffy at best. At the least however, technology would have progressed far beyond what was seen in the other movies) Counter-counter-counterpoint: given the destruction in the wake of the “hyperspace bomb” that presumably would’ve spanned for millions if not billions of miles, this might be a “war crime,” disincentivizing it by risk of court-martialing. This could by why the plan was never explained by the (forgot her name and rank); to protect everyone else from legal liability. Counter-counter-counter-counterpoint: the first order destroyed an entire solar system in a *show of power,* they obviously don’t care about intergalactic treaties. Yeah I think I’m done here.
"If you don't like it, don't watch it." You know, that's actually a fair point; and it's why I haven't watched a single Disney Star Wars property (either film or television) since The Last Jedi was released. Nothing is sadder than someone who professes to hate what Disney has turned Star Wars into but still consumes every bit of Disney Star Wars media that gets released. Disney doesn't care what you think as long as you're watching. The opposite of love isn't hate. It's apathy. Disney has made me very apathetic towards Star Wars.
@@bluboyd3637 Rogue One was before the last Jedi so mute point, and no. Rogue One was mid with like 2 cool scenes. People only think it’s great cuz it’s not the sequels, but that’s the Star Wars fandom for ya. Lowering the bar year by year.
You know, at this point, I wish they'd just scrap the new films declare them non-canon, and start over. Maybe after looking at some of the better expanded universe stuff.
The truly sad thing is, this was legitimately our last chance to get the band back together. Mark Hamill would probably sign on to another GOOD trilogy if he had it in writing that if they fucked with him again he could walk away. But Harrison Ford is never gonna do more Star Wars (getting him on for TFA was probably like pulling teeth), and both Carrie Fisher and Peter Mayhew are no longer with us. THAT is the true tragedy. And while I'm onboard for scraping this junk, without the core group it's gonna be shit.
Yeah, people that say that Crap are Why producers are getting money in their pockets because "we" arent asking for a great movie. We just want to see the name and theme that somewhat resembles a star wars film. Go see spaceballs if you are that desperate.
That's not the craziest thing i've heard. I saw i guy who said he hated TLJ (and TFA too) like we all do, but he will keep watching next SW movies from disnep no matter what. Guess some people would literally buy a piece of dog turd, if it was branded as official star wars wookie turd.
Ill just say it here. TLJ was a HUGE travesty bec no chsracter as big as Luke Skywalker had been part of public consciousness as much and as long and they totally dropped the ball on developing continuity and story that would maybe never be surpassed!!! I would of thought that value would be paramount! If I was the worlds only trillionaire I would have outbid Disney to do The Last Jedi justice! That ship has sailed and will never come around again. When movies are totally CGI without actors they will have an underground pirate radio version of The Last Jedi and If I live long enough to see it, it will be the ndxt movie I see for I have not gone to cinema ir rented/ bought dvd since my single viewung of TLJ and do not plan to. This is the one that ruined all movies for me for no one could top the drop and failure/ disappointment of TLJ enough to compell me to ever give movies a chance again
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember Han Solo ever giving the Falcon to Rey. Rather Rey taking it and everyone being fine with that since she's a great pilot. Still though, I think we could all agree no one deserved that ship as much as Chewbacca.
Friend: "Dude, why are you reading that? Those books aren't canon anymore." Me: "From my point if view, Disney's trilogy isn't canon... but seriously, I don't really care because the SWEU is objectively better."
Absolutely!! I don't GIVE A F*"K what Disney declares as Canon or not. To me and millions of other fans Disney's bulshit they put out is not Canon at all because it isn't Star Wars and they don't even understand HOW the STARWARS Universe works and just put together a mishmash of bullshit where nothing makes any sense with anything else that's come before or after it. Several of the EU books were considered equal or better than even then the originals and if Disney had just gone with the Zahn trilogy for example we would have had a phenomenal ending to The Incredible saga that is Star Wars. As far as I and many other people are concerned Star Wars ended in 2014 when Lucas sold it and whether or not the EU was ever Canon it's Cannon to me as far as I'm concerned and that's the way it will stay! Lucas DID SAY that they had hundreds of books, cartoons, comics and videos games to Kathleen Kennedy and Disney when he sold it which certainly seemed to indicate he considered the EU part of Star Wars and that's good enough for me!
I can't tell you how many articles I saw coming out after TLJ where it was titled: "Rian Johnson explains..." And I thought it as, and have told my friends, the following: "If he made *such* a good movie, why does he need to keep explaining all these scenes? If they were good, wouldn't they just sit on their own merits instead of having to be re-told by the director in an interview?"
Empire no but one can make an arguement for Return of the Jedi. 1:The plan for Hans rescue made no sense. 2: The teddies were nothing more then a cash grab. Not to mention it made the storm troopers looked even more comically inempt. 3. Luke throwing away his light sabre and exclaiming "I'm a Jedi like my father before me" was incredibly retarded. But you know he risked the whole war on the fact that he sensed the good in him. 4: And of course yet another sink the bismark plot (blow up the deathstar).
random loser At least it can stand it’s feet with amazing characters, instead of trying to copy and paste. At least their plans made more more sense than anyone in the last Jedi could come up with. At least Luke wasn’t a Mary Sue. At least the Empire strikes back didn’t try to subvert every expectation and fail at that.
@@nykerianash1590 What exactly was Hans rescue plan in return? I'm going walk through the chain of events. Tell me how much sense it makes. Step 1: Have Lando infiltrate and gather intelligence to report back. Step 2: Send droids with my terms and smuggled light sabre. Step 3: Princess Leia gives them yet another prisoner to infiltrate and fail her rescue attempt. Thus giving them 3 more prisoners in play. Step 4: Luke goes in unarmed and gives Jabba his terms face to face partly hoping to mind trick him. He very nearly dies and lucks out on them not straight up shooting him after the Reigncore dies. Step 5: All are in prisoned and Luke saves the day, lucking out on the fact that none of the extra bodies were harmed. From any military stand point what lick of sense did any of that make? Now I'm not going to defend the new movies because they suck. However I'm sick of people turning a blind eye to how much Return of The Jedi sucked and acting like the whole original series was a magnum opus. New Hope was good. Empire was good. Return sucked. Everyone gave it a pass because the first two were that good and it tied up loose ends.
And on top of that it had no Jedis in it and still was a good and interesting Star Wars movie. Yeah I know the Vader scene and boy did I love that one but the movie would still be good without it.
Erick Robles The funny thing is that Rogue One wasn’t that great in terms of characters. It’s most interesting and deep character was an ex imperial droid for gods sake. What made it a great Star Wars film was that it was true to the universe. It had the feel, the excitement, and it really was an ode to star wars and its fandom, even if it didn’t have the best characters. The people who made rogue one love Star Wars, that much is obvious. The last Jedi and Solo however?? Not even close.
Dude, this video was a lot of fun to watch, especially when the mire of RUclips is filled with such crappy defences of the movie, nice to get a bit of sanity in my recommended lol.
The sad fact is all of you negative fans keep showing hate towards the new movies instead of just enjoying them. How about you go back and watch the original trilogy and see all the flaws that it had to. I mean, this hate is getting out of control and is making the Star Wars fan base look immature and ungrateful about what we get. I mean, would you rather have no Star Wars movies ever be made again?
+TheRealCoolness "immature and ungrateful about what we get." that's the stockholm syndrome talking. i really love the Original Trilogy had flaws therefore TLJ is not as bad.
The original trilogy does have flaws. They are not perfect films, but all three of them combined don't even come close to the number of flaws in The Last Jedi.
rogue one, a movie that was literally a prequel to explain a 5 minute scene of the original movies made 3 times the money that Solo, a back story of one of the most iconic star wars characters, made. This should show you how much fans hated the sequel trilogy especially the last Jedi.
Rogue one was a genuine good movie imo, but solo was just...lackluster. also, at that time I hadn't seen the clone wars show, so as far as I knew or cared, Maul was dead. Solo could have been great, but it was marred by the same issues as the sequel trilogy
@@molodezhnaja The poor writing isn't the only shite thing about TLJ. It's not even SW anymore. I've read hundreds of comics and a couple dozen of the novels. And I can say with confidence that even the fanfic had better writing and felt more Star Wars than TLJ. This new story destroyed all the characters that we loved from both the movies and the literature that the real star wars fans like myself have learned to love. These are characters that have been built up for 40 years. And now suddenly Han Solo is this incompetent idiot who loses his own ship and his wife, Chewie is suddenly this puppet who just blindly follows this random girl he met a day ago, Luke is suddenly some coward who runs away from his responsibilities because reasons, the first order is for some stupid reason the single most powerful institution in the galaxy just because they destroyed the capital world of the alliance, .... The writing is so bad that they don't even understand that the Rebel alliance aren't actually rebels. They were the damn rulers of the galaxy. You're not a rebel if you are part of the government that rules the damn galaxy. In the new trilogy, the First Order are actually the rebels. Sorry, I'm just pissed because Disney destroyed my favourite sci fi fantasy. A thousand comics, hundreds of novels, all the games, ... ruined by a single movie that reads like a piss-poor fanfic written by an anime fangirl. Seriously, were the writers of that shit even aware of the Expanded Universe? Did they actually know about characters like Revan, Bastilla, The Exile, Nomi Sunrider, Exar Kun, Naga Sadow, Darth Bane, Skere Kaan, the Solo Twins, Kyle Katarn, Darth Lumiya, Cade Skywalker, Vestara Khai, Mara Jade, .... Notice the amount of women I listed right here. If they wanted a strong female lead, they could've picked any one of them and copied their story. That movie would've been fucking amazing. TLJ was so bad even a cheap copy of the EU would've been a thousandfold better.
@@STR33TSofJUST1C3 You obviously haven't been paying attention to anything in the movies. I mean, what movies were you watching? Han Solo is the same guy who once stepped on a twig and got backhanded by the guy he was trying to jump. His character is one who constantly goes from one frying pan to another. Chewie follows literally anyone, presumably to avoid all that random wackiness at home. Luke is on the verge of a profound realization that the Jedi and the Sith both have to end. I thought the evolution of his character was the most refreshing twist since Jar Jar Binks created the Empire. I particularly like the fact that the Force continues to create progressively more powerful people as the generations go on. It keeps infusing these people with more and more raw talent. Anakin, Luke, and now Kylo and Rey. Each of these people had less training than the one before them, yet each of them was stronger.
@@boredom2go _You obviously haven't been paying attention to anything in the movies. I mean, what movies were you watching?_ All of them. His character is one who constantly goes from one frying pan to another._ That's a far cry from being a deadbeat husband and father than continues to lose his own ship. Why is it that the comics and novels managed to capture a far more believable Han Solo than Disney could? _Chewie follows literally anyone, presumably to avoid all that random wackiness at home._ No he does not. If he did, why didn't he just give in to Jabba and work as a bounty hunter for him? Or why didn't he leave Han when he got betrayed on Bespin? That's because Chewie is loyal. And loyalty doesn't shift in one damn second. It took Chewie an entire movie to trust Luke, yet Rey just magically connects with him? _Luke is on the verge of a profound realization that the Jedi and the Sith both have to end._ Nothing of what you just said it true. That never happened in the original trilogy. Luke Skywalker is the guy that never gave up, not even the Jedi. _I particularly like the fact that the Force continues to create progressively more powerful people as the generations go on._ Yeah, with zero explanation. Because you this is sth you have to assume. The writing is so bad you have to assume that's how the Force works. Good job. _Anakin, Luke, and now Kylo and Rey. Each of these people had less training than the one before them, yet each of them was stronger._ Assuming if that's what Disney was tring to pull off with the story, it's still shit. If this is your explanation as to why Rey is this random girl that never fails and is unexplicably powerful, then that is still shit. The general audience does not want a protagonist that is stupidly powerful for no good reason. Such a character is completely unrelatable and boring. The most boring characters in any world of fiction are the one that are inexplicably powerful.
Luke as a character was destroyed. Luke, who was rdy to die by the Emperor rather than killing his father and turning to the dark side, is ruined. Rey is the 'hero' of the story, not Luke, and thus should undergo the breakdown and resulting change (see the hero's journey). Luke fulfills the guardian/guide/mentor role. Rian obviously fucked this up and thought Luke needed development rather than Rey. Someone please tell me what transformative trials/hardships Rey undergoes in TLJ. The cave scene is a cop out as there is no resulting hardship or lesson learned. She has had no struggle with mastering the force, so what is her character arc/development?
In times of toxic feminism, where there is only interest in showing of that every woman can do everything better than any man could ever, there is no desire for a protagonist other than the freaking MOTHER of Mary Sue....
There should be a trilogy made to replace it which should take place after rotj and contain Han and Leias actual kids as well as Luke and Mara jade with their kids
Luke as a character was destroyed? I thought that was kind of the point. Luke was seen as a legend within the star wars galaxy and when rey meets him it turns out that he isnt the legend that everyone thinks he is. He has lost faith in the jedi and wants to live out the rest of his life as a farmer. He tries to kill his own student in ben solo because he saw that he will go on the be a sith lord in kylo ren. I personally like him as a character as he feels like a real human being with flaws and does fail sometimes. His arc in the film is also really hood as he is at first disillusioned with the jedi but as he trains rey he sees the good that jedi can do through rey and eventually leading up to his conversation with yoda saying that failure is the greatest teacher which hives luke a chance to redeem himself by using force projection, taking on the first order allowing the resistance to survive and sement himself as a hero and a legend within the star wars galaxy. But oh yeah luke is completely ruined isnt he?
Luke in A New Hope: Strange old man - Hey kid, wanna go to an aventure? Luke - HELL YEAH. Luke in The Las Jedi: Strange girl - Han is dead, your sister is in danger, the empire is back, there is this evil sith lord... dude... we need your help! Luke - .... "drinks green milk".... whatever.
@@Armann_ worse off, it is his very dearest apprentice doing those killing, with very skill he taught him himself, and he ain't gonna do anything to stop him and redeem himself. What on Earth did they turn Luke into?
@Obi-Wan Kenobi as I know there were quite big numbers of siths that were able to kill tens of men by the age of 3+ in the old republic. What you described i find nothing wrong with that, everything what was shown is pretty reasonable including being extinguished from using the force.
I found The Mandalorian to be kinda shallow. Good but not great, that being said though I'm sure Favreau could make a better Star Wars Ep 8. And yes, there are a couple of episodes that have nothing to add.
I remember walking out of the theater and thinking to myself “was that it” it felt like nothing happened or nothing good, and I thought it felt like an hour for how little actually happened
Exactly, that was my whole reaction after watching the movie too. It didn't make me go "Woa,that was such a fun and cool movie",it only made me go "So,that was it I guess". The worst part is,I first watched it with my cousins family and they gave me the choice to either watch this trash or the cinematic masterpiece that was,Into the Spider-Verse... I made the wrong choice
Disney made me despise Star Wars. I used to have a great big love for it. Episode 4 is the first movie I ever remember seeing. The only thing that kinda revived my love for Star Wars is Star Wars Theory's Vader Fan Films. They are perfect examples of what Star Wars should be.
And Episode 1 is for free here on youtube and if he can raise enough cash he can fund episode 2, which tbh is the hardest any fan has ever tried in service to Star Wars. +Res
Ryan really said "we don't like that someone who has decades of experience over a newbie and who is much more powerful than them was able to kick the newbie's ass, we think that everyone should be equally powerful regardless of how much experience, knowledge or strength they have because I got a participation trophy when I was little."
That was a truly absurd moment. Do you think he really believes that? Or was he just super awkwardly getting defensive? I mean, it's just objectively untrue.
Luke "got his ass handed to him" because it made sense. Vader is a powerful sith lord and Luke is a jedi who only trained for a very short amount of time. IT MAKES SENSE. Not like 7 and 8 where Rey is so powerful without even training. I don't see a plot in 9 because I know that Rey is better then everybody in everything. (Fires her first shot from aa guns on the falcon = gets a triple kill, holds a lightsaber for the first time = defeats a well trained sith, .....)
I think everyone is misunderstanding those comments because this video maker took them out of context and twisted their meaning to match his own agenda. Rian was saying that people criticized things in tlj that they liked about empire. He wasn’t saying that empire was bad. Also Rey isn’t that strong. She didn’t beat Ren on her own. She had Fin who was actually a trained soldier to slow him down, he was shot by a fucking supercharged wookie bowcaster which has previously basically blown people to bits... Ren was at a disadvantage in tfa. Rey sucked ass in tlj too. She got lucky when Ren decided to spare and help her. Literally all of these elements are being misrepresented here to fit a narrative.
Xeng Lee in tlj the good guys lose BIG TIME. Their greatest hero makes an epic last stand and then dies, their army is entirely wiped out. All their leadership is killed. Rey, Finn and Poe are the only actual named characters still left at the end. (Granted Leia is alive at the end, but she’s gone because the movie was her farewell after she died). People complained about a lot of things in this movie and Rian was responding to the dumbest complaints in that clip, namely everyone dying. Basically he was saying that people complained about basic story elements that are paralleled in a lot of literature, such as classic hero stories. The heroes have to fail before they succeed. He was saying things like that make Empire great, while people criticized Last Jedi for similar elements.
Empire and the Last Jedi are not even remotely similar quality or story telling-wise to be able to make a statement comparing the similarities of the two and how odd the fans different reactions to the two movies are... The Last Jedi was shit from start to finish as a stand alone movie, even when it did try to monotonously copy/"pay tribute" to elements of Empire (Just like TFA was a shallow attempt to basically copy A New Hope) Even if Rian thought he used a similar traditional story/character arc it was done so ham-fistedly in so many ways which have been raised and are patently obvious that fuck knows what rubbish they will cobble together for the final movie from a Millennium Falcon now containing the whole Rebel Alliance unless suddenly some whole new force/alliance is going to pop out of no where or Rey will simply beat the whole lot...
”They would have hated seeing luke grt whiped by vader” Luke who has just begun his training vs vader… that’s the logic that made Rey beat kylo without any training I guess

This really echoed so many of my thoughts! Great content as always. Really solid editing. Also, thank you for putting the dismemberment and burning scenes together. I was arguing this point just this week.
There's a lot of dumb shit in this video, you've had 9 months to make a video like this. I expect better.
LOL
"You don't like strong women."
It's not the characters, it's how they're written.

It is literally a part of the “Hero’s journeys” that the “hero” isn’t yet strong enough to overcome the biggest threats.
Exactly right! If Rey got her ass kicked and lost an arm or a leg I would’ve had sooooo much more respect for this movie even though the other plot points were still trash.
Exactly, Vader is a powerhouse with decades of experience, Luke had a crash course for a couple of months, he is absolutely not ready to face him and it is correctly shown in the movie. Meanwhile, Rey whoops Kylo's ass after holding a lightsaber for the first time in her life.

So Dave Filoni helped George out with the show even more and the other Seasons did really well. After the Disney buyout, Disney cancelled The Clone Wars in favour of Rebels. This pissed a lot of people off in TCW community. And before you say that they're bringing it back, they're only bringing it back because of the failures that TLJ and Solo were (note: Solo was not a failure because I know people in the community who thought it was okay, however it was a financial failure in the eyes of Disney). And, by that being salt, it implies that the first order's "snow troopers" are in fact, "salt troopers"
It's so annoying knowing how Mark Hamill, someone who really cares about the story, the characters, the fans, the lore in everything he does, disagreed with so much going on in the film and was forced to portray his character against how he knew him.
When someone who had played the character for years, had continued to talk and learn about him for years to come showing true devotion to the role, disagrees with how YOU (Rian Johnson, someone who's done fuck all to do with Star Wars) want to portray him, just listen to the man. He knows more than you. Listen to the fans as well. They are the ones who make or break you and you didn't listen, now look where that got you.
It really makes you wonder what would happen if Mark Hamil was allowed to direct a film. You never know.
When it comes to luke skywalker Mark Hamill is the definitive expert on the subject. Not saying you don't give him a script and direct him. But if he says that XYZ is out of lukes character, then you take that on board, period.
If he says luke wouldn't do XYZ, you don't think... "maybe he's right," you think, "he is right, how do i fix it" The only higher authority on the character is George Lukas and you know even he'd be thinking the latter not the former.
Mark Hamill wanted to play Luke Skywalker's Evil twin. I don't know if that would've been a better idea.
It's not as simple as "just listen to the fans," as an example, look at the Call of Duty series. Whenever fans want something, they get it, but they usually hate it. Because the community is so divided that pleasing 50 percent of your audience makes the other 50 percent fucking hate it.
Even Finns actor is starting to realise the flaws of the movies
I'll never forget the moment I realized that the entire movie was going to be a slow chase scene where the bad guys were waiting for the good guys to run out of gas.

If Rian had accepted the criticism, I think we would all have been a lot more forgiving of him. But because he doubled down and started making up lies about Empire, and denying every valid criticism of his work, it's hard to treat him with respect.

He kinda forgot the scene where Han immediately tried to blast Vader and had his blaster yoinked from his hands, also going down without a fight is not the same as accepting the fact that taking action in that instance would have caused more harm then good (I'm talking about the scene where he gets frozen in carbonite).

The two first prequels are watchable, and ROTS is the third best SW movie in my book. The Disney “Star Wars”... Only Rogue One is good, TFA is watchable because it is New Hope 2.0, the rest is trash, none are more trashy than TLJ.

Rebels is a fucking joke

A very fine criticism of ROS. But what to do you have to say about TLJ?
@@lt-yx1hx LOL Harrison wanted Han dead in the OT. That's a fact.
I took my 74 year old mother to watch Empire during the reopening of the theaters. Her idea and it was amazing watching it on the silver screen again. We spent the rest of the day talking about it. Timeless.

At the least however, technology would have progressed far beyond what was seen in the other movies)
Counter-counter-counterpoint: given the destruction in the wake of the “hyperspace bomb” that presumably would’ve spanned for millions if not billions of miles, this might be a “war crime,” disincentivizing it by risk of court-martialing. This could by why the plan was never explained by the (forgot her name and rank); to protect everyone else from legal liability.
Counter-counter-counter-counterpoint: the first order destroyed an entire solar system in a *show of power,* they obviously don’t care about intergalactic treaties.

How does a star destroyer catch up with a blockade runner in the first scene of the first movie...BUT A DAMN CRUISER CANT CATCH ANOTHER DAMN CRUISER
The power of imagination
That would require someone to think about the plot , they don't. KK and Rian nobody couldn't write a joke in a bathroom stall.
Because George’s Empire was smart enough to consult Kuat Drive Yards before constructing their Star Destroyers
C3PO "Did you hear that? They've shut down the main reactor."
The blockade runner stopped moving because they damaged it’s reactor.
Not a fair point.

Rogue One was great tho,but that's it
@@bluboyd3637 Rogue One was before the last Jedi so mute point, and no.
Let's just purge all new cannon can go back to EU and stop making movies! I fucking HATE everything Disney has put out star wars wise.
Get George to make them LOL!

Rayanne Florence unfortunately we got bad Star Wars movies
Yeah, people that say that Crap are Why producers are getting money in their pockets because "we" arent asking for a great movie. We just want to see the name and theme that somewhat resembles a star wars film.

That's not the craziest thing i've heard. I saw i guy who said he hated TLJ (and TFA too) like we all do, but he will keep watching next SW movies from disnep no matter what. Guess some people would literally buy a piece of dog turd, if it was branded as official star wars wookie turd.
Probably the same people that while keep buying shittier and shittier iPhones for higher prices rather than not having an iPhone

Friend: don't try it I have the High Ground!
Friend: Panzer, the books you're reading aren't Canon.
Me: From my point of view the Sequels aren't canon.
Friend: Well then maybe you're right.
I can't tell you how many articles I saw coming out after TLJ where it was titled: "Rian Johnson explains..." And I thought it as, and have told my friends, the following:
"If he made *such* a good movie, why does he need to keep explaining all these scenes? If they were good, wouldn't they just sit on their own merits instead of having to be re-told by the director in an interview?"
to be fair, would they dedicate time to explaining the artificial gravity in the ship when the bombs were released in TLJ
"all these scenes"? Not sure if there is a large number. Good movies certain people needing explaining to does not make for a bad movie.
@@CyberScifi I recall seeing at least 8-12 separate articles breaking down multiple scenes in the wake of Last Jedi's release.
That scene of Princess Leia floating through space can be used as a form of torture.
The audacity of Rian to even imply that Empire would have been criticized as a bad film today. And in front of Mark Hamill himself.
Jerome Ley you can tell it in Mark’s face like “The fuck chuck”
The origina trilogy were not perfect, the prequels have issues but the sequels are... Sigh
I had hope for the new Starwars after Rogue One showed potential. but I was heavily dissapointed after TLJ.
Yeah, Rogue one had the benefit of a good director and the time period it was in.
Rogue One was absolutely fantastic, and then TLJ came out..... I was shocked, had to go watch it again and decide that I absolutely FUCKING HATED IT.

The sad fact is all of you negative fans keep showing hate towards the new movies instead of just enjoying them. How about you go back and watch the original trilogy and see all the flaws that it had to. i really love the Original Trilogy had flaws therefore TLJ is not as bad.

That moment when comics have better writing than a 300 million dollar movie.

I thought the evolution of his character was the most refreshing twist since Jar Jar Binks created the Empire. _You obviously haven't been paying attention to anything in the movies. I mean, what movies were you watching?_
All of them. And even though the storytelling in TPM and AOTC was a bit weak, I still enjoyed it far better than TLJ.
_Han Solo is the same guy who once stepped on a twig and got backhanded by the guy he was trying to jump. His character is one who constantly goes from one frying pan to another._
That's a far cry from being a deadbeat husband and father than continues to lose his own ship. Why is it that the comics and novels managed to capture a far more believable Han Solo than Disney could?
_Chewie follows literally anyone, presumably to avoid all that random wackiness at home._
No he does not.
_Luke is on the verge of a profound realization that the Jedi and the Sith both have to end._
Nothing of what you just said it true. That never happened in the original trilogy. Luke Skywalker is the guy that never gave up, not even the Jedi.
_I particularly like the fact that the Force continues to create progressively more powerful people as the generations go on._
Yeah, with zero explanation. Because you this is sth you have to assume. The writing is so bad you have to assume that's how the Force works. Good job.
_Anakin, Luke, and now Kylo and Rey. Each of these people had less training than the one before them, yet each of them was stronger._
Assuming if that's what Disney was tring to pull off with the story, it's still shit.
I wish George Lucas made these it sucks
Here we go another toxic kid who thinks his opinion is above all others
There is one good thing about the sequel trilogy. Because of it’s existence, the prequel trilogy is no longer considered the worst Star Wars films.
Luke in A New Hope:

@Obi-Wan Kenobi as I know there were quite big numbers of siths that were able to kill tens of men by the age of 3+ in the old republic. What you described i find nothing wrong with that, everything what was shown is pretty reasonable including being extinguished from using the force.

This is the second time I’ve heard him try to trash Empire. I hate him more every day.
Yep. Its ridiculous. Rey would defeat Sidious only using a fucking dildo
@@csguy3223 please explain the criticism part since i actually didnt research and would like to know, thank you!
”They would have hated seeing luke grt whiped by vader”
Luke who has just begun his training vs vader… that’s the logic that made Rey beat kylo without any training I guess
