Bind is useful for the frequent or lazy cheater! I have a few of the basic commands bound to numpad keys so I can get into "creative mode" without having to type it all out.
Honestly, I lost all my flametal gear one night when I disconnected. (that I achieved legitimately) and a friend told me about console commands. Needless to say I received "A gift from Odin" shortly after.
If I'm building a project I'll generally always keep on fly, nocost, tod 0.5, and env clear, for a nice relaxing experience. One small note is that if you spawn gear and items with spawn command, they will not have any character name attached to it. If you craft (and upgrade) them with nocost enabled it will include character name. One VERY IMPORTANT NOTE is that if you are spawning mass amounts of objects, using the p modifier at the end of the command will automatically put all of those items directly into your inventory instead of loading them into the world, which can help prevent lag/freeze/crashes.
Cheating helps me get rid of some of the annoying parts of the game. I love grinding and leveling up in games, but sometimes i aint got time for that. I dont fly around the map and 1 shot bosses, that defeats the purpose. But i do I tend to spawn bulk wood/finewood later in the game. Ive chopped enough wood, i get it. I use flying when i build, just because its a better building experience. Ladders are goofy. I like to pretend there are blueberry/raspberry seeds and " plant"my own bushes at my base, but only after ive farmed plenty of them already. There are probably 50 other little things I do that just make it more fun for me. Playing on the hardest combat difficulty while cheating a bit is most fun for me 😊 I wouldnt recommend "cheating" in your first 200 hours, but after that its kind of like modding. You can just do stuff to make your exprience better
absolutely. Thats why I don't like to shame anyone who uses them. You only have so much time in your day. Why waste it being unhappy when there are tools at our disposal to improve our experience
Great video and very timely. I don't typically use dev commands for normal play but I have used them for getting nice screen shots, or checking out new seed worlds for potential base locations (I plan to use a new solo seed world once 1.0 comes out as the one I currently have dates back to when the game first released). I don't use dev commands to gather resources though, as that is part of the game.
I'm guilty of the occasional cheating. I play Valheim for its atmosphere and building mechanics more than anything so I've cheated my way through some bosses that I hate, like The Elder. I also remember flying to my tombstone when I died at sea back in the day. These days I'm a much better player, though, so I stopped using commands for the most part. I've gotten up to the Mountains cheat free in my current world.
Just speaking for myself, play anyway you like. Whenever I have used cheats, the game becomes dead for me. Yes there fun and useful for learning sometimes. I have stated playing again on HC only. And it is a whole other, rewarding experience.
I didn't start chesting until the mistlands. I made it 200 hours before generating a equipment set. Now i generate iron (been there done that) and black marble (because who has time for that). I am at 275 hours and i am hesitating spawning the misands boss.
When you spawn items remember about right count of them :P I have like 10-15s lag when want to spawn 3k of any material but I feel like missclick with 0 and it could make some damage I never tried to spawn more than 500 mobs at once 500 skeletons vs any kind chain lightning is so much fun :P
Only Dev command you can use in normal gameplay is fly and ghoust if your body gets stuck in a un-reacheable place. Had a falling gravestone that i wasnt able to reach and was forced to use the cheat.
Had a situation in which friends gravestone disappeared into nothingness in crypts, depending on a situation all commands have a "legitimate" use. Needless to say that we brought back the gear that he remembered he had with commands
you can use an existing. The only thing I would add is they don't work in multiplayer. it has to be singleplayer. But apart from that, new character, existing, it doesn't matter.
For any reason, my ENV command stopped working once. Dont know why, but wrote the command, ENV thunder for example, and nothing changed on the weather. Is there a possible explanation for that?

Yeah, cheats! I use devcommands every time when game treat me really unfair xD First visit in new biom and on it's border meet bunch of strongest mobs, 2 stars included and die faster than you realize what happened? Cheat! Die far from home after mobs destroy teleport? Cheat! Missclick and kill last tamed 2 stars wolf? Cheat! Mistake and craft unwanted gear spending most of materials that gather cost many hours? Cheat! I mean, game should give fun, and in contrast to real life, you can use cheats to repair mistakes and save many hours of gameplay :)
The phrase "I am a cheater" as the previous password for the console was certainly a joke by the developers. Same with Fallout 4 in Nuka World. The young barbarian in the gorilla enclosure. Who was raised by the gorillas. In Tarzan, a small chimpanzee is called a “Cheetah”. Which is probably pronounced the same as "cheater". And Tarzan is raised by chimpanzees.
What devcommands did I miss that you like to use?
