  • Alright so the big move has happened, I've unpacked a bunch of stuff and now suddenly there's a huge amount of DIY to do.... Only, I've not really done a lot of DIY before. I have a good idea of what's involved, after all I've seen various fathers build stuff throughout my life. I've seen changing rooms. I've seen a million videos on Pinterest of people making beautiful things in a flash, how hard can it be?
Thing is, life isn't perfect and those things that look easy in a video are actually not that easy irl. Or if they are easy they aren't fast. Or they're both hard and slow and no one says...
Anyway, I suddenly have a lot of projects to complete and this is the first one.
The window in my office / dressing room / cozy corner is a bit grim. It's got mould on it, a manky blind, the paint is old and it doesn't have any sealant between the window and the surrounding wood. I wanted to fix it.
Now in most videos you'd see someone just speeded up doing it all and it would all look wonderful, but that's not how this played out in the real world!!!
Sure I speeded it up because there were HOURS of footage and the whole idea of the channel is that my videos are 10 minutes long! Basically it took weeks to do! That's why I've had to split it into 4 videos! Because it took. that. long. I spose it didn't help that I made constant mistakes along the way!
So in this video, the first video of the window project, I'm preparing the window for painting. Here's what I did:
*Removed all the stuff from the window sill
    *Treated the mould
    *Took the blind down
*Cleaned the window with just warm water and washing up liquid (pvc is sensitive to a lot of products so best to use mild stuff)
*Cleaned all the window sill and wooden surrounds with sugar soap which is generally used for cleaning surfaces for painting
    *Rinsed off the sugar soap
So all that was just in preparation. While I've managed to put this in a ten minute video it actually took a few hours to accomplish. However, so far so good. It's hard to go wrong when you're just cleaning and preparing so at this stage it felt like things were going well!
In the next video you'll see me painting and sealing the window:
