  • Welcome to the last - and yes the final - instalment of the window project! Today the project concludes and I finally finish the window and it feels AWESOME!
If you missed the first three instalments find them here:

    • Window project 3 - How...
So in the last video I started to put up a blind and then gave up. It just wasn’t happening for me. And about half way through the filming of this video I actually nearly gave up for good, but in the end I persisted and I did it!
So last time I had the issue that I didn’t drill holes deep enough to use wall plugs or rawl plugs (still don’t know the difference) this time I had charged the drill! The drill did a great job and made plenty of holes! Now to the next issue - two of the holes weren’t deep enough - because I had drilled into the depth of the wood and what’s behind the wood is just solid granite and I just don’t have the tools to drill into solid granite. So because I just wanted to stick to drilling the wood I ended up with one side having deeper holes than the other - so that meant that on one side I was able to use the plugs I was given with the screws, but on the other side I couldn’t. I’ve previously seen my father cutting down plugs that are too long so that’s the method I went with in the end!
Once I’d finally gotten the plugs in place I was able to screw the screws in like a dream! So clearly that is what had been wrong all along!! Once the screws were in I was able to just slip the brackets on - I make it sound easier than it was! the holes weren’t totally in the right place and it was hard to get the brackets on. And there was a lot of screwing in and out of screws just to get the damn things to sit properly. But in the end I got there.
After all that nonsense the end was quite anticlimactic. I just popped the blind onto the brackets and boom done!
In the end though. All things considered. I was really proud of myself for conceptualising the project and then seeing it through from start to finish. This really was my first serious DIY project with no help from anyone and while it was hard, the satisfaction was very real. I stood back when I’d finished and I felt really good about it! - I think there will be definitely more DIY projects to come.
