  • Welcome to the window project number 3! In the previous two project videos you saw me preparing the window to paint:
    • Window Project 1 - In ...
    And then painting the window:
    • Window Project 2 - Tim...
In this video I’m finishing off the window.... or am I?!
So I decided the window needed to be sealed because it wasn’t previously sealed and I thought that potentially water may be ingressing into the window and of course if there is any condensation it would be more easily absorbed by the wood if there was a gap between the window frame and the wood. I used silicone sealant, there is specific window sealant, but I used bathroom sealant because I also wanted to seal my bath (video coming) and one tube would do both.
So first things first, I sealed the window. I used a tool to smooth out the sealant because I’d read that using your finger was bad for various reasons, however, the tool was pants, so I used my finger. I suppose the old methods are the best! I then left it to dry for about 48 hours before I started messing around again.
I realised there were two holes in the top of the window where I’d taken the old blind down and so I filled them with filler. In hindsight I should have done this before painting...
Then I put some of the filler in the bottom corners of the window because cracks had shown up there between the bottom and the sides. Then I left that to dry.
Then to finish off I thought I’d hang my new blind. I thought it would just add a nice finishing touch - only it didn’t go to plan. Basically it was my first time using a drill and I was too scared to drill a big hole for the brackets, this was partly because the drill wasn’t well charged so it wasn’t really doing a great job at making a hole! So naturally because there wasn’t a good hole and because of that I didn’t use rawl plugs - or wall plugs - what even is the difference?! I couldn’t screw the brackets in because the wood was too tough to take a direct screw - hold the naughty jokes.
Anyway - I messed around with it for a long time and then I gave up because I know when to walk away. I knew I’d come back to it once I’d had a break but I took a few days to do something else because sometimes a bit of a rest helps you approach a situation with a fresh mindset.
So that’s it - how not to put up a blind! Don’t half ass it and take a break if you need to! Join me in the next video where you’ll find out if I actually did it in the end!
