Is that Mudahar's dad?
I love you, Prof, but Spice is two-way tied for my biggest internet crush- and the phrase, "If you've ever wondered what Spice8Rack would look like while defecating" has done so much psychic damage to me I'm gonna be starting every game at a negative life total for the next 50 years
Congratulations, you've broken me lol
I am unsubscribing. The pronoun thing has made me lose all respect for you.
@@midas9935 I’m sure you will be desperately missed
So did you asking a robots for unfinity mtg cards
God this actually was one of the best games I've ever played xxx
Come back soon. Love you, you hippie.
I fucking love Noyan dar, and have had a deck around him forever. Love it! So happy to see him played!
completely non magic related, what nail polish are you using?
*the "Rise from your grave." bit is from the video game Altered Beast, although an resemblance to Elmer Fudd is unique. Love you Spicy!
I give your plays a strong to decent 9
i watched the whole thing last night and smiled ear to ear through its entirety. i love you lads like all hell.
My favorite guest on Game Knights, and now my favorite guest on Shuffle Up and Play ❤
"I won... What else do you need from me?"
Giga Chad
No homo but you handsome af
Sam, I think I’m in love with u. Ahahaha
Fucking creep
The thing I like about this show is that it's actually a talk show disguised as an MtG playthrough. No MtG channel can bring out each guest's personalities like the Prof.
40:23 “Didn’t we discuss before that I don’t read cards?”
Shivam would make an excellent YuGiOh duelist
Honestly the chemistry of this group is off the charts. Would love to see these 4 play commander with a twist again in the future
yess!! I totally agree!
Yes please
YESSSSSSSSSSS

I know the commute is rough across the pond but I love seeing Spice playing Commander
absolute joy. that's what this weekend was. absolute joy.
All my love and joy to you, friend.
Man, I absolutely agree with you. I hate flipping cards, even when they aren't double sleeved. Instead of flipping I just buy 2 of the card and keep the other side in my deck box, and use it instead of flipping.
You made the absolute best counter in the game to Prof's late game Politics.
You : ''We are all teaming against each other.''
Prof - ***inaudible shenanigans politics***
You : ''Hey! I took out the Zombie, I took out the Zombiiie !!! ''
Z O M B I E : ''I HAVE A NAME!!! - Doofus! ''
Looking back, everbody was like ''Oh cool we have 50/50 investment seeing someone win with you deck!!''
Also everybody at the end '' HEY KILL MY DECK NOT ME !!! '' or this new catchphrase ''I TOOK OUT THE ZOMBIE !!''
Wow love this format and people!
Shivam, if you had done a shoryuken instead of a hadouken, you could have used the invulnerability frames to avoid most of that damage.
I have to ask, did you reference Teen Girl Squad at 41:21, when you said "wall of zombies"? You said it to the jingle of "wave of babies!" And I HAVE to know!
Shivam talking about his deck is wholesome and honestly who doesn't love zombies???
Plants, Plants hate Zombies
SO wholesome. Reminds me of my Animar deck, except that deck is degenerate.
Especially blue zombies😊
who DOES love zombies
Exactly, and Dimir Zombies to boot. Although, of all it's commanding faces, my heart belongs to Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver. Sure, Grimgrin is a lovable boy, but Wilhelt is like the all-size fits all. He runs you resources for combos, feeds big bunguses like Grimgrin himself, he just enables so many gameplans from infinite combos to just midranged beatdown. Though maybe I'm just biased. I always loved the way Exploit worked and sacrifice-zombies became my favorite way to play them ever since. It was jus that Wilhelt was the face of it all, because it was the first time I was able to make a combo through intuition alone. Like lightning, it struck me in my sleep, I rose from my drowzy slumber as I realized "Wait, Wilhelt and Poppet Factory make an infinite!" Might not have been the most big-brained play to some, but being able to figure that out on my own as a newbie was a delightful feeling and just the kind of positive feedback that makes you fall in love with cardboard.
8:48 Professor: "Sol Ring should be banned."
Shivam turns to rip Prof a new one. Remembers the camera is on. Turns back, counting backward from 10.
I've felt that anger before when someone says a card you like, think is balanced, or is a good staple should be banned, and you realize it's just a card game.
plays dockside extortionist and smothering tithe in his deck
I agree with the prof. Sol ring, mana crypt should be banned. Very unbalanced and badly designed cards.
"Half these cards are upside-down."
"Oh, he's one of those."
I've never felt more seen.
Same bro. I felt personally attacked
You can easily avoid the attack by correctly stacking your cards, you uncivilized animals. 😂
and remember, having half your cards upside down is an easy way to cheat!
The camera work on this show is so good, and good God I love spice's comedic timing. Also, I adore the fact that despite how brilliant and intelligent Rhystic Studies is, spice still got him with an "amongus".
47:29 amongus
Amongus
Everyone has weak spots.
1:01:23 Every video with Spice8Rack inevitably features the working classes desire to overthrow the ruling class :)
Look where are now
which is why Spice is based.
The fucking DEATH GLARE Shivam gave Prof when he said "sol ring should be banned" lmaoooo
Pleasant surprise to wake up to! What a pod featuring some of the best and most intelligent MtG content creators! Shivam, Spice and Sam are amazing for the community
I hope you enjoy this!
@@TolarianCommunityCollege love it already mate. Thank you especially for bringing such great guests to your show. And as you say, It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that fling!
@@TolarianCommunityCollege watched the whole thing. Just a brilliant game played in the best of spirit. Thanks for the great entertainment!
REALLY cool that you address rules mistakes in the video now, Prof! I'm not gonna lie, it IS a huge bummer to me when commander games go one way or another because a misplay wasn't caught in time, so this is a wonderful addition to the series!
We've decided to try and make this a fun part of the show: if we can catch our own misplays, we'll call ourselves on them in post.
@@TolarianCommunityCollege 36:58 I believe that because Dismantling Blow's two effects are resolving at the same time then Smothering Tithe will trigger from it.
@@yoav.kats6328 They happen in the order they're written on the card.
It’s helpful because miss reading a card is pretty easy in magic it’s nice to see that corrected
@@troacctid I learnt that recently with rankle
sam and connor's banter is so good. "yeah in 250 years you vampire"
Shivam looks so cool and friendly to hang around.
Spice and Sam look friendly too , but Shivam sounds enthusiastic about everything. Genuinely nice.
37:49 I didn't think, this was a controversal opinion, but I think Gitaxian Probe is insane in commander. I really did think that we have a consens here regarding Probe, but seemingly not. I find this very interesting. Here are some arguments, why Probe is good in EDH, in my opinion:
- First, it is just good, inherently, to play a 98 cards deck instead of 99 cards, similar to what Mishra's and Urza's Bauble do.
- Second, Gitaxian Probe is a sorcery, so it triggers aaaaall the good instant/sorcery pay-offs like Niv Mizzet Parun, Archmage Emeritus, Storm-Kiln Artist, Young Pyromancer, Talrand, Guttersnipe and so many more.
- Third, it is good to fill your graveyard, for Threshold, Search for Azcanta, and mostably for Delve. It is sooo good with Treasure Cruise, Trespass or Dig Through Time
- Fourth, it is also good with Storm or Storm-like cards like Burgi, Thousand Year Storm or Underworld Breach
- Additionally it is good with cards that trigger when you draw a card, e.g. Teferi's Ageless Insight, Locust God, Psychosis Crawler
- Maybe you just care for cheap (in this zero cost regarding your mana) spells to trigger Primal Amulet, Yori En, Ledger Shredder or Shark Typhoon
- And, obviously, even the information you gain can be quite important. In this video for example, Rhystic Studies did find out that the Prof has a counter in his hand for 3 mana.
I am really sorry for my long comment, I normally never do this. But Gitaxian Probe is one of my favorite cards, besides Noxious Revival, Standstill and some others. Great video though, love your attitude, likeability and content! Keep it up!
More specifically, playing it in Noyan Dar triggers the commander for 2 life.
Initially I didn't put much thought into it when they talked about gitaxian probe being silly in commander, after really thinking about it I came to same conclusions as you did. It triggers effects based on casting sorceries & drawing cards, it fills up your graveyard, and it thins your deck for 2 life. This is _without_ looking at a hand...
Seems like a great inclusion in any spellslinger deck already running opt, consider, brainstorm and the whole crew.
It’s not a good card because it’s sorcery speed. You can play far better cards at instant speed. Also in deck building that card for the most part is competing with brain storm.
@@sosukelele your last line is why it’s bad it’s competing against 1 mana instants. When you’re spell slinging you want to be able to cast whenever you want to surprise the opponent. Probe hinders that ability. You also don’t want to run too many 1 mana spell or you just run out of gas way too fast. The card is bad because of what it’s up against in the 1 mana slot, and it’s sorcery which kills it
@@TheUnderJaker See, I don't necessarily agree? I don't think Probe is amazing in commander - it's good in certain decks, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it in spell slinger lists, but I don't think it's insane. However, where I disagree is that it's not up against anything in the 1 mana slot, because it's not a 1 mana card. It's a 0 mana card that you cast by paying 2 life almost every time. And, when it's fulfilling that role in a spellslinger deck, and is triggering all of your payoffs for free, and replacing itself? It's absolutely insane. I don't think just being a cantrip is good enough for commander, but being a 0 cost sorcery that replaces itself absolutely is.
This is literally the best commander gameplay I have ever seen. EVERYONE went off.
(SPOILERS)
Spice had tons of early presence and was poised to win the game, but Shivan bolted into the lead and took him out. Than prof beating both players up, almost taking both of them out, until Sams slow growth paid off and took him out! Sam beating shivan from there was like poetry, he was the hero all along. Please do more games like this!
It was a great game.
spoiler alert!
Yes but I'm 11 mins in and can't stop seeing them play counter clockwise.
Why is this comment at the top. I will still watch it but man. Spoiler alert indeed
@@vincentleito822 yeah sorry about that I’ll put a spoiler warning
"Um...I won.... what else did you need from me?" is a top notch way to end the episode
"reading the card explains the card most of the time" hits extra funny given the collab you did today with Team APS. Sometimes in Yugioh, reading the card doesn't feel like it explains the card.
But yeah this was awesome.
Looking at you, inspector boarder
There's Yu-Gi-Oh! cards you can write whole Game Design doctorates on.
Spice always looks like a dashing villain that ends up being a friend. Great game everyone!
I love seeing Sam playing Magic. We need him on more shows.
Glad the editor caught Spice in the act of trying to sneak in that “among us” to the audience.
Gotta ping that algorithm somehow.
Anyone else entertained by Sam's attention to his land... for that matter all of his cards on the battlefield, perfectly arranged? ... it calms my inner OCD
My excitement level when I saw Rhystic and Spice8 back again was immeasurable. Supremely fun to watch and a great game.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again:
You are all way too charismatic. it's so much fun just listening to you, even though I don't get half the references and jokes or even cards.
100% this, the vibe created here is just so positive and giddy to either pop off or watch their favorite deck pop off.
This is an OUTSTANDING example of a Commander game for new players. Diverse deck types but nothing too complex when learning the game. Everyone popped off to some degree or another. And a table of entertaining personalities having a great time.
"I love the fact someone wearing THAT jacket is complaining about someone not seeing their 'magnificent, shining light.'"
That was so unexpected and so spot on that I did an actual spit take. Bravo, sir.
As someone whose favorite commander also shares their name just spelt a little different, I appreciate The Professor’s dedication to Brion Stoutarm.
Reading Lord of the Undead DOES explain Lord of the Undead though, since in both its printed form and current errata it isn't giving +1/+1 to itself.
Yup. He's a Lord in his old printing, not a Zombie, and grants Zombies +1/+1. In his current form, he's no longer a Lord, but a Zombie, and gives OTHER Zombies +1/+1.
@@KingLofiOne Ah, but you see, in the 9th edition printing he was a Zombie Lord. >.
@@sbushido5547 Yes, but in 9th edition he gives +1/+1 only to other zombies
I came here looking for this comment lol
@@lucatirelli545 Undead Warchief on the other hand is funny. Without the rules text, you seem to be getting a 1/1 for 2BB. Quite hefty. That is, until you notice that it gives Zombies +2/+1 and is a Zombie itself, making it a 3/2 in effect.
this has to be the greatest game of commander ever recorded and I feel so fortunate to be able to watch it. friendship is truly magic
Maybe the real friendship was the treasures we made along the way
I love how excited everyone was to hand over their favorite decks. Getting to hype up something that you’ve put so much time and thought into sounds like a cool thing to try on a Friday night.
Spice 8 holding Sams hand in order to participate in the attack was the absolute peak of what this format twist brings out
I'm only 10 minutes into this video and it just gives me so much life. The off-the-cuff approach, ambassadors for our community playing the purest form of Commander, just having a good time. It feels like watching friends playing at my kitchen table.
Usually I look forward to a new Shuffle up and play episode, but this one? With Spice? And commander switcheroo?
I've been waiting for this
my first shuffle up play show! It was a blast! Gonna now binge watch all of the ones I missed!
Spice + Sam is an actual legendary combo. Love to see it!
Having recently tricke- uhh convinced a group of friends to play magic, I have played a whole pod of my decks and honestly, it is such fun. It's honestly such fun to play against my own stuff!
i love spice so much, their humor is perfect
@:D it
What a game!! Everyone playing have a great chemistry together and really feel just like a bunch of old friends playing a game of commander just for the fun of it. I watched this with a huge grin on my face the entire time, what a great way to start the week.
Steady Progress has one of my all time favorite flavor texts, fun to see that get played!
"It's probably nothing." 🤣
24:18 oh my god the netti netti joke had me actually burst out laughing and I'm not seeing anyone talking about how good it was
This is so fun, big smile on my face the whole time ❤
I'm happy for Sam that he's out on youtube playing magic for a change.
Outstanding chemistry between these four. Really feels like you’re watching four friends playing some Magic over the dinner table and a few drinks.
It was great chemistry for sure, but could you imagine how much more amusing it would be if they were working down a pitcher or two?
I want to be on an episode! 😭
Ok!
Love when his real friends are on the channel and call him by name the entire time.
" I love playing commander with my friends...and Spice8Rack..."
the commentary on this episode is sublime. i was laughing all game long. this is REAL commander play!
All of these decks were so cool. That Crux of Fate was incredible, what an amazing game! This show is really getting to be my favorite thing about Mondays, and I'm always just a little disappointed when the off-week rolls around because there's no new episode!
This is by far my favorite commander show, the range of characters and the humor in these videos is the reason i keep coming back for more!
I really really really appreciate how readable the cards are from the top down view. Every edh gameplay video has that angle but I think this is the first that I could straight up read everything on the table.
I very much enjoyed the end interviews. They really help to hear each individuals style of describing what they were going through and gives it a more familiar feel of playing with friends
1:25:15 it was at this moment the professor threw away his morals as a man and did not stick to his word. Classic commander plays
So grateful for the content you and your team bring to the magic community. Thank you for all of your hard work. I always look forward to your gameplay videos.
This was -hands down- one of the BEST magic games I've ever seen in RUclips. The fun, joy and chemistry between all of you, paired with the twist of playing with each other's decks, made all the difference and brought out the joy I felt when I started playing Magic: meeting new cards and getting to know how they work while helping your friends. GREAT video, prof
This was one of the best Commander games I've watched. This series is absolutely fantastic and I simply love all of your guests.
Such an awesome episode. Shuffle up and Play is my favourite gameplay shows along with my friends. It feels honest, chill, and just fun. You feel like you're hanging out with pals. A lot of other shows are so OVER-produced, like it has to be this strange e-sports-esque American production and it just drains the joy out of it. Love this so much: 10/10 Brian, keep up the good times.
This game looked so fun, was a joy to watch and hope the group can come back again in the future….the chemistry was off the charts
What a phenomenal concept and brilliant commander gameplay episode! Love that these magicians had to pilot other friends builds to play the game. Rather than let's see how fast or monstrous my own build can be, this gameplay of playing a friends deck stressed the fundamentals of synergy and one's own understanding of Magic. Bravo! I would definitely watch more Commander episodes like this one in the future.
It's really hard to express just how much joy these episodes give to me. I have the greatest admiration for you and your community of pals for creating something so wholesome and enjoyable while also promoting and enjoying a hobby that you love.
Friendship is indeed magic, and if only in spirit I consider you a friend Prof.
This is the most genuine and enjoyable game of magic I have ever seen on RUclips, Rhystic and Spice8 are the dynamic duo that we need in our lives and Shivam and the Prof are from my age of MTG so they made me feel like I was watching friends play. A subscribe to all your channels!
Just got off of work and spent the last two hours watching this game WORTH IT!!!Best Magic content on RUclips, just friends playing janky commander together 😂. I love it, reminds me when I play with my group.
Truly an awesome experience.
Loved the decks, loved the twist, the interaction made me laugh out loud several times.
Truly, one of the best Commander experience there is out there, and I'm pretty happy we're starting to see more.
This is a talk show that disguises itself as a Magic game, and the host is GREAT at making the chemistry work between everyone else involved.
A+ work on the editing side too.
Really good chemistry, what a joy to watch you guys basically hang out.
“You can’t sell that!”
*Prof literally profiting off of y’all’s friendship*
Shivam has infectious laughter. I'm loving this match so far.
What an absolute joy of a game to watch. Thank you so much to the four of you for showing us what a great game of commander can look like
This is straight up one of my current favourite youtube series. Love each new ep, this one is no exception! Games are both engaging and casual/fun, an absolute pleasure to watch!
Prof complaining about Shivam’s deck being a bit too strong and fast when all Spice did was go turn one sol ring into expedition map is the exact reason why prof also said sol ring needs to be banned at the start of the game.
I desperately want a fan animation of 1:23:29 now, hilarious! Great show!
This was the best episode of any commander gameplay I've ever watched.
Love all 4 people involved, thanks for the content and for having such amazing people as friends Prof!
Loved this! What a great group! You guys had excellent chemistry.
Just out of curiosity, was the counter-clockwise turn rotation implemented intentionally?
I am confused too xD
Thank God someone said something
I dont like it make it stop.
It made me question if I knew what clockwise was.
Maybe because they're going in the order of handing the decks over? I also don't remember hearing them explicitly say going clockwise, did they?
Edit: I didn't see them say which order and I watched another SUaP and they went clockwise in that, so all I can guess is like I said earlier. They just kept going the way they handed decks over. I didn't notice/mind.
Been waiting for this video! Spice and Sam are absolutely brilliant on their own and even more so together!
This is great. Great chemistry between all involved and thoroughly fun.
I sincerely love the energy coming from this group of players. I wish I had a bunch of pals to play with who had this kind of attitude!
This was probably one of my favorite episodes because it felt that much more like just a handful of friends playing magic. The rotating decks really did seem to add another level of enjoyment that could be seen on everyone. Really fun. If I play magic again I might give this a try.
I went off on the episode with Spice and Sam because y'all were amazing together.
The addition of Shivam to the squad raised the bar even further
By far my favorite episode of shuffle up and play... Love watching again and again, and such a great idea for the format!
This was so much fun to watch. The energy between the four of you was definitely contagious because I laughed so much throughout the whole video.
Buy far the best shuffle up and play so far! I absolutely love this series!
Only at the 2 minute and 30 second mark and I can tell this is going to be an absolute blast to watch
49:16 - 49:20 Insomnia reference let's goooooo!!! I'm not old.. Sweet sweet nostalgia, I loved that song! 🧓🏼✨
This was by far the most wholesome gameplay video. I wanna watch these people play magic over and over. So fun!
That was awesome! 😃
And this way of playing is so great! 😃
And Connor took it like a champ that he was taken out so fast
Love all the Grimgrin appreciation in this episode! He’s my favorite commander of all time
Incredible lineup, also probably one of the only gameplay series where I know what the hell is going on thanks to the editing and the steps everyone takes to explain what's happening. I wish for more videos like these and for all these specific people to return as much as possible.
These four are so much fun together, great energy and on-screen chemistry. Hope to see more commander with everyone!
I love the show. And I love the 4k quality ! sound is also perfect. Awesome job prof !
Glad you like it!
It's been a long time since I've watched a game and suddenly wanted to go and build all four decks. Awesome job to everyone involved.
One of the best and most entertaining videos not just of this awesome channel, but also as a 'paragon' for entertainment, fun and friendship! Really nice to watch and interesting interactions to widness!
spice and sam are my new favorite guests by far omg
There are gonna be so many "oh crap, can I do that?"s and "oh, wow - I love this card!"s I can't wait! 😃
I loved this so much, it was so fun. :) id love to see this group together again and see yall play your decks just to see how different the decks play when theyre operated by the people who made them ^^
Truly the best pod to watch, I listen to Shivam's podcast weekly, am a patron to both Rhystic study & Spice8rack, Kickstarter for Prof's deck box. What an awesome game, well played all around, one of my favorite commander games I've watched in recent memory. 😀
1:40:52 That Joel Haver reference made my day
Hold?
@@lysander3262 Hold.
Haha yeah I knew it had to be a reference.
17:33 "Lord of the Undead" does have two versions. On the ones that say "All Zombies", Lord of the Undead is NOT a zombie itself. So this and other versions of the card are all correct... right?
yeah, I that would be right, its just a lord so it wouldn't buff itself anyway
You're right! It's not the Zombie type!
Lord of the Undead has been oracled with the zombie creature type with its recent secret lair release.
Edit- it's been a zombie on paper since it's ninth edition printing.
That's what an errata is, it does NOT have two versions, the old version is supposed to be played as the new version since the card is "changed"
Think of it as a update to a hearthstone card, it just changes what it says
@@Caio22011 Thank you for clarifying. Right, so now "Lord of the Undead" has gained the Zombie type itself, but my main point was that both versions were always a 2/2 when on the battlefield (never adding +1/+1 to itself).
My former playgroup used to have an event calendar for our weekly meetings.
One such event was "Opposite Day" where we would pick a deck and swap it with the friend across from us.
I miss those days.
This video feels almost nostalgic.
I love these videos. Reminds me of game nights at home when I was a kid, I didn't understand any of the rules so my parents spent the whole time explaining! Really brings me back :)
I am so in love with how Sam organizes his board and how he taps his cards properly
