Generally the things Prof is critical of aren't the things Gavin controls at WotC. I would guess Gavin agrees with Prof on a lot of his points, he's just powerless to change anything but card design.

I can't believe the 9th Doctor and the 10th Doctor showed up to play Battlebond on Shuffle up & Play, the Professor has some seriously good connections.
I think he has more of a history with Magic. He's accomplished a lot there, including his tragic loss in a championship to nasty topdecking. I was happy to see Brian back on MTG a while ago, but now he and Olivia and a few other MTG RUclipsrs are so omnipresent that it's almost annoying. Nothing against Brian, but he and Olivia are sometimes too narcissistic and arrogant.
I really never thought of it that way. I'm really not a fan of the progression of magic the last few years, but even being the subject of criticism Gavin does seem to genuinely enjoy using the products and playstyles he pushes.
The sonic screwdriver joke was amazing! And the follow-up of "he reversed rhe polarity and i reversed it back!" Was so lore accurate i couldnt help but smile.
Prof is rocking the leather jacket! We NEED to see this edgy, bad boy side of him more. The one that’s cool with the kids and probably owns a skateboard.
Well, he did just post that video where he sits backwards on the chair. His cool bona fides are verified. I assume at this point he spends most of his time gleaming the cube and swinging on the flippity flop

Congrats to Kyle Hill for managing to make it into Magic's Hall of Fame while taking breaks from being a mad scientist. Truly an inspiration to us all.

Prof and Gavin really like two nerdy dads in this and I love it to bits, especially the reversing the polarity gag. You absolute lovable dorks. Also Olivia, I love the dedication to the bit, and the fact you managed to shuffle the deck with the pjama claws pulled up at all needs more attention. And ofc, finally hearing the Kyle Hill story was wonderous, having him on is always a treat
if the next commander precons have battlebond lands we can all thank the professor. if they do not, we can thank the professor for something else instead.
@@ProphecyPhrase the first thing i do with precons is remove taplands and replace them with basics. i wish they again put in precons basics from one artist like they did with guay some time ago... but i guess now we are supposed to buy sl with just 5 of them instead of getting the whole precon and lands as a bonus. :(
@@ariannadravis3934 not really. every land that comes in tapped and does not provide any significant impact means you are playing part of your turn one turn later. eg akoum refuge will only gain you 1 life which is irrelevant unless you rely on lifegain triggers. temple of deceit will give you scry 1 but if you already have topdeck manipulation this is probably not worth it. etc. some cards opponents will play will exploit the fact that those are non-basics (think blood moon) or you will not get the benefit of the "downside" of opponents card (like path to exile) or you diminish effects of your own cards (like glacial fortress). it's of course case by case scenario but as a rule of thumb starting with as many lands that come into play untapped (which in most cases will be basics due to $$$) and then adding taplands will get you better play experience and make it easier to arrive at tapped/untapped ratio you are happy with.
Olivia and Brian are always great guests, and its such a treat to see Gavin come on. Battlebond is such a neat set. Also props to Olivia for sticking to the costume usage.

OMG I saw this teased on several videos and have been VERY impatiently waiting! And then they play Daggerback Basilisk with one of my favorite flavor texts ever on it! Well worth the wait.
My buddy and I went into a battlebond event together. He's a certified magic judge, he'd been playing for like 8 years, I had been playing for probably 3 months, with no card game experience before magic. I had always considered going wide and combat tricks very funny. He is a combo player at heart but can rock any playstyle. He HEAVILY advised not playing combat tricks, but we built our decks just on suggested colors as to not clue the table in on what we were building. All I said was "I like black, and I guess I have a lot of red". I built SO MANY combat tricks just cus I had a handful of good cards but not really anything that screamed a strong line of play. I was looking at my cards and eventually realized I had opened and immediately disregarded Sentinel Tower, and I looked across the table with this huge grin. He immediately knew I had funny combat tricks, but had definitely found a funny line, and as long as he built decent we'd be in good shape. He ended up building an izzet creature aggro and combo deck that didn't do either one super well, but with me pumping his creatures and pinging down opponents creatures so he could swing for face, we ended up DOMINATING. I forget if we placed first or second but it was such a memorable experience, exploring the game and different mechanics, polishing my very rough deck building skills, and expanding my style out of goofy and into goofy but strategic, absolutely bullying other teams that had judges, players with 5-10 years of experience each, etc who always looked down on me and plays I found interesting or exciting USING THOSE PLAYS. Extremely satisfying. Godzilla/Kaiju/Ikorea got me into magic, but I think Battlebond really had a big impact on how I build and play, and why I still play

I am so sick of nearly everyone I know only wanting to do 4 player free for all. I hope you do a video on the arch enemy format. Same goes for a 5 player pentagon style. It would be nice if 3 color pre cons had a combination of 1 battle bond land, 1 fetch land and 1 shock land. This helps new players see/obtain 3 different styles of dual lands. Then they can decide if they want to get the same style for the other color combinations. Let's see# battle bond 2 !!

Almost every board game shop has a night dedicated to games like this. You could easily grab a precon and check on that.
