I've been banging my head against the desk for the past several hours trying to figure out how to repeat lightbulbs along a path. Yours is the first tutorial I've found that makes any sense. Thanks!
Agreed, I'm trying to also layout a set of shapes around a curve. Specifically 3 sets of dots in groups of 5 (Total of 15 dots) with a line in front of them. This would be for a cribbage board. The pattern would look like kind of like this but repeated and around a curve I:::::
what i like about your tutorial is you get the message across efficiently. e.g.: you didn't spend a lot of time on drawing a nice path (which is not necessary). You just need a path to show how we do the blend and replace spine function. Some tutorials, they would spend a long time doing a nice path which is not the point of the tutorial.
Firstly, thanks for posting...really useful. Quick question...how do I create a line of the same shape (like a circle) but going from small to bigger and then when blended (say 10 shapes in total, going from small to large), the space between each shape is exactly the same? I'm stumped!
Hey Uma! I'm not getting the reply option to your comment so in case you come back, hopefully you'll see this :) You'll want to use a pattern brush for closed paths - this technique is best used for open paths (like those drawn in the video). Here's a pattern brush tutorial that'll help with that rectangle: ruclips.net/video/12xTvfuXEHQ/видео.html
Hi thank you for the tutorial. It helped me a bit. But i have one question. I try to make a patter to use for Leather design. The leather are square, with punched hole in it. I can do this manually but to get accuracy i would like to make a pattern insted. With your tutorial I could make holes on top and the bottom. The holes who are on the sides hovever should be 22 but I only got 7 as the same amount of holes on top and bottom. Do you have a tip for solving this?

Woww! Watching you using Adobe Illustrator denotes how skilled you're. I learned lots of new tips and tricks while you were explaining the main topic. Thank you! :)
Hi Teela!! I'm Rocío. I have a doubt. I'm trying to create a brush sample with two flowers, coloured and with gradients. Illustrator tell me that gradients can not be used like this. How can i fix this? sorry for my english and thanks a lot!!
Hi thanks for the info. Repeating shapes is one thing but how would you align any set of shapes along a path. That is shapes you didn't create with a blend? for instance exaggerated individual eyelashes along the curve of an eye lid rim
Hello thanks for this video! Referring to the first action of your tutorial, on my computer when I blend the shapes get smaller towards the middle then bigger again, I am not managing to keep the shape the same size betwen the first one and the last one.. why is that? :(
I've been trying to do this for days in Inkscape! (Sorry, can't afford Illustrator.) I've been Bending, Distributing Along Path (extension), Pattern Along Path (Live Path Effect), and my poking and the Inkscape forum (so far) has failed to yield the answer. Does anyone here know how to do this in Inkscape without distorting my objects? Thank you in advance!
Thanks Teela for your easy-to-follow tut. But my "Replace spine" is grey out even though I chose both objects. I tried to draw just a simple line (for a new spine) but it still doesnt work. Please help!
Isnt there a procedural way to do this? Would be nice to just make a shape, attach in to a stroke, and then use a slider to determine distance and quantity. I mean its a lot of trial and error doing it the blend way if your after a specific result. thanks anyway, if you come across a more procedural method id love to hear it!
:/ okay but use a rectangle and tell me how i can make a dotted path with rectangles where they rotate around and flow with the line rather than all facing horizontally
use the blend option to create your repeated objects as she did but change the "orientation" option to the 2nd box tha shows the lines rotating with the bend in the icon. Now when you use the replace spline option they will rotate and flow with your path
Hey! You can create a path using the pen or pencil tool, then grab your 'type on a path' tool (you can access it by holding down on the T icon in your toolbox) and then you can type on the path you made - good idea for a tutorial!
From one designer to another: I really enjoy your tutorials, thank you for taking the time to make them!

Repeating lightbulbs around a frame is what led me here as well!
Hello Teela,
OMG - thank you - so easy now. Just discovered your tutorial series today and they are fabulous. Easy to follow and saved so much time.
This is still an elegant solution 8 years later! Thank you!
How would you go about repeating an array of object of equal distribution along an oval? This particular problem has me really perplexed.

I said "YOU CAN DO THAT" so many times while watching this lol I need to see your other videos now!!
How can i make the distance to each object same? I tried it with circles along a form, but the circles keep overlapping.
Thanks! I found this really useful for printing alignment marks for the webbing on a backpack shoulder strap along a path.

I just discovered the power of the blend tool a few weeks ago. So many things you can do with it! Where has this been all my life! :p

Voice sounds familiar, i learned a ton from a skill share class i took of yours. Want to say thank you, love to learn quick tricks and tips.
Thanks so much for checking everything out! :)
So happy I found your channel! Already learned many different, easier ways to do many time-consuming tasks! Thank you so much!!
Thanks Teela! Very easy to understand even for a beginnner like me!
Thank you! I know i've done this before but it's been a while, thanks for the refresh! Very clear teaching style

Thanks for the super helpful + design-made-easy tips!
Thank you so much! I love that you make it easy for us to understand how to go about doing it (:
Thanks! You made my day :) I'm working on a project and I need this function!
good tutorial, but how can i get the same distance between every star/dot/etc.? I need to get 50 circles on a path but without any space between them.
But I'm curious how can I adjust the position of the shapes if they are specific in how they should be aligned along a path?
Hello thanks for this video! Referring to the first action of your tutorial, on my computer when I blend the shapes get smaller towards the middle then bigger again, I am not managing to keep the shape the same size betwen the first one and the last one.. why is that? :(
hello! do you know how to do this same thing but not all across the line but only on a certain part of the path? Thanks a lot for sharing ;)
Thanks so much for the tips. They are cool
You are a NINJA .. I love your videos.. thank you!
Great tut! Don't forget that you can add anchor points on the path to even out the shapes. ;)
Precisely what I needed. Thanks!
Thank you for your kind help !
i took information of illustrator with your lesson thankyou somuch and dhave nice day
So, how do we repeat any shape along any path in even intervals?
Agreeed, this is a good tutorial but not having control on the spacing seems to miss the mark.
I think you need the "specified distance" instead.
I tried that but it doesn't seem to work either.@@142vids

I just had this problem! I found out that it wont't work on a compound path. Hope that helps!
Thank you for your Awsme Tuts..And i subscribed ur channel while i saw ur first video.
How do you get them to be evenly spaced out?
This is pretty cool! Thank you for this tutorial :)
so helpful thank you
your videos are great. easy to follow.

HI, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR AMAZING TUTORIAL I WAS WONDER IF YOU PLEASE APPLY THIS LESSON ON PATTERN PAISLEY
how can we make copy, I am not getting this????
Another helpful tutorial. Thank you!!!
great tutorial, very helpful!
is there a way to rotate an object around an oval evenly?
It seems like it doesn't apply to zig-zag...How do I make even wave lines?
Great tutorial!
Amazing!!!!! It was a revealing tip Teela!
Thanks so much for this! Very cool!
Is there a way to do this with Text? So I can make text using stars?
Great tip thanks!
awesome tutorial! very handy, thanks alot :')
+TrizzyDzn yay :) Thanks for watching!
why when i blend the shape changes? i want it to be the same shape
Thank you!
Hey Cool. Thanks for this!
thank youuuuu

how do you evenly space shapes??
thanks but what about if i want to make every shape a different espicific color?
forget it i found out
With it selected, object > expand, then ungroup. You can then select each shape individually and recolor :)
yeah i found out, thanks but now the replace spine is greyed :( dunno what to do
Teela It's possible that the distance is my wish
Where is the blend tool in Photoshop 2023?
Thank you
Excellent!
Thanks!! You saved a live ;)
how do i make evenly spread?
Is this for illustrator?
Yes
Thanks girl!
thanks you
Love it!
stoked
thanks alot
🙏!!!!!
Can you do it on text.?
