Repeat Objects Along A Path In Affinity Designer
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 июн 2024
- In this tutorial I’ll be demonstrating how you can take a single object and repeat it along a path in Affinity Designer. This can be useful in creating fun patterns and decorative borders.
To accomplish this, we’ll need to create an object to repeat and then make it into a Textured Image Brush.
Once made into a brush, it can be applied to any shape as a stroke, and you can even draw with it using the Vector Brush Tool.
If you don't want to create the PNG image you can download a copy of it here:

Great stuff, as always. Thanks Nick! (BTW, I purchased your Master Class awhile back. HIGHLY recommended to all here!). Keep up the great work!
Thanks glad you like it!
You really made simple design by creating such types creative sessions.
Thank you. Enjoyed and learned much. Clear and easy to understand and follow. Once again…thank you!
Great tutorial, Nick. Thank you for teaching it!
Brilliant! Awesome tutorial.
This is very cool. But is it possible to do the same with a vector shape, not bitmap?
This was awesome. Thanks Nick! I created a really cool brush using this technique!
So easy to follow, thank you!
Really useful tip👌. Thank you!
Smashing video lesson.
Great Tutorial, thanks🎉
You can also make the spiral object using Spiral Tool ("Use Cusped Segment" setting), and adjust the turns accordingly.
The best part of it is, obviously, you can tweak the line's width as your heart's delight.
Dziękuje za Twoją pracę ,bardzo pomocna była dla mnie .pozdrawiam
Nice tutorial, but hopefully some day the Affinity team will offer vector equivalents of their vector persona brushes.
I thought they already did? Don't use a lot of brush effect.. But I thought they added a vector paint brush... Correct me if I'm wrong.. Haven't played with it much..
Some brushes like the basic brushes are vector. Most others that have an artistic look to them are usually png images mapped onto a path, just as in this video. One way to tell is to draw a path either with the pen, pencil or vector brush tool, assign a brush to it then zoom in on the path. Depending on the resolution of the png image you may or may not see pixels. Also if you try to outline the path by going to Layer > Expand Stroke, if it's true vector your path will expand into a filled in vector stroke path with actual nodes. If it's not vector Expand Stroke will have no effect. @@neodidi See also someone elses comment below.
@@kevinhouse7143 got it.. Got it..
I think I was mistaking the vector paint bucket or vector fill tool..
My workflow with affinity, mostly logo, mockups, websites and UI really haven't required me to use a vector brush..
But I find it interesting when creating patterns and backgrounds which I'd like to try..
So pls, what use is a vector brush for patterns?
The new enter key distribution action helps create some interesting designs and patterns... And you can make the design a symbol so a change would affect everything.
Kindly let me know what use case that might come in handy.. Thanks
This is one of the biggest missing features of Affinity Designer right now. I use Vectorstyler for things like this now because it does offer 100% vector brushes
Nice
That's not a vectors😢
Absolutely! We should be able to this non-destructively, with vectors.
Perfect timing.
I literally need to create a pattern almost identical to this for work tomorrow. I 've only been using Affinity for a week, and was about to search for a tutorial...
Great video. Clear, concise.
Will we ever be able to use vector shapes as opposed to PNGs for this?
It would be great to be able to do that
Do you have to use Shape builder to make the new brush? Can you show this method while using the shapes tools like the triangle, etc,?
Thanks for the tutorial. One question: is this vector brush?
Yes, you can see this because he is working in a designer persona and he also said vector brush. 😁
At your previous video regarding how to make custom brushes in Affinity, you said that in order to change the color of the stroke, we have to go to New Adjustments and Recolor, while in this one you just change the brush stroke color and the color changes. Could you explain why this happens?
I am the first one to like and commnet ❤🎉
Yay!😃
Commnet? haha 😂
Man I cant wait for image tracing in AD so I can stop paying for AI!
Question : You have two open canvases/windows docked together. One open and one hidden.
Can you copy 'by dragging' a vector element from one open window/canvas to the other docked canvas window... without copy-paste?
You can do this in illustrator... just drag the element up to the other docked canvases 'name-tab bar' and the window will switch over,
to the other canvas ... you can then drop the element into that now open window ( if there's an open layer free ) Can Affinity do this?
Just tried it. Unfortunately, no. It doesn't work like that on Mac at least.
@@DesignMadeSimple Thank you for replying - I'm very grateful!
Why do my brush becomes inverted in color when I import it?
mine too
don't know why!
@@luisoliveira.360 still no luck as of now. i followed the s
Instructions right.
So couldn’t this be done in affinity photo as well seeing as it’s a pixel based tutorial? Need this to be a vector option.
Can this be done on illustrator?
Yep, I have a tutorial for it on this channel
why am I missing the shape builder tool?
i believe it was introduced in designer v2
You sound very familiar
