Dude you are so good at this. I really appreciate you talking through exactly what you are doing, like saying the specific values because it means I can follow along with RUclips minimized and gimp opened for maximum time use. Thank you!!
I've had a vinyl cutter for over 20 years... I'm thinking of buying a new Roland print-cut unit now... Your Gimp/Inkscape videos are incredible for showing me what's possible to create, and how to do it! Thank you so much for posting!
Awesome tutorial! It was a bit difficult equating the instructions to the new version of Gimp, but it helped me get more familiar with the tools and such, but regardless thanks for making this video
In GIMP 2.10 it seems that the gaussian blur plugin is different from the version you're using (150 produces a very larger blur). Actually, also the "HSV Noise" is different in result...
Yeah, don't just get spoon fed, make adjustements you will still get the result he portrays. For me just a value of 30 works fine for the blur I want but you may seek to deviate. It's up to you.
Just had the same issue. Plus the 2.10 blurs and gradients don't seem to fade very well. I just went back to 2.8 and it seems to be working much better. Plus scripts work again.
in the newer gimp version its much easier to adjust the most effects, except the Noise.. it was pain in the ass until i had a result i was fine with and that it looked like in the video.
The stars and lens flare weren't too customizable, so I used some stock photos with blending mode set to "screen" instead. Maybe you mentioned that already, but if not, then that is a useful trick that might help some of ya'll out. Thank you for making this awesome video. I learned so much.
Is there a way to make an updated version of this or tell me what version of GIMP you used in this tutorial? Your instructions are spot on and easy to follow, but since Gimp has updated the instructions don't exactly work in the same way. Some things have been changed. Your tutorials have helped me greatly in the past.
I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make such a brilliant video. Im a real novice at Gimp and I was able to navigate it easily and ended up making g a fantastic reproduction, using my own text. Thanks again, and keep up the great work on all your views!
This is awesome mate. I'am useless when it comes to graphics design, but this has allowed me to create an absolutely EPIC 80's styled text logo for my Twitch channel. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this tutorial, it has helped me out considerably! Cheers!
This style would make a great album cover. Great tutorial! I'm sooo happy you finally aligned the text; maybe I'm a bit OCD, but that kinda annoyed me. xD
Nick, as always, thank you for sharing. I will try this in GIMP and Inkscape, I did a version of the reflective text on water in both software packages so my Saturday "Research" gets busy :-) West
sorry to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot my account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Damon Luis Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
i always like to think outside the box, and when it comes to gimp, everyone has there own way of doing things, but this simple trick right here just knocked down my process by 10 layers.
Thank you for uploading content! I've used Gimp for my whole life, and I don't have the time to explain how to do these effects, from now on I will be simply giving them links to your videos and telling them to subscribe
lol im watching this für the 20th time now. first i didnt understand, then i went rage because i couldnt make it work. now in just here for the colorcodes. i can reproduce that in about 10 minutes now. thx man
Hey Nick. Been Watching you all the time. Thanks so much. You are very talented And thanks for sharing your knowledge. 1. Does this technical work well for Apparel? For example what exactly does 'new from visible' do? 2 Does it work well for Apparel designs? Which techniques would you stay away from? Thanks Nick
Despite me using Gimp 2, you're tutorial was phenomenal. My only issue is the desaturation of the lens flare - still had notes of grey after adjusting the color curves.
OOOoh This is perfect for my NV Mod! thank you so much NICK! I can now use it for the commercials I have been wanting to make for it! so this frelling helps so much!!! This rocks so much ***BIG HUGS*** !!!
Hi. I don’t know if you look these comments anymore, but I love this and it would fit with my vision for my RUclips channel logo. Would I be aloud to use this as my RUclips logo, with the words changed to my channel name? Thanks
I'm using a newer version of GIMP I didn't now how to get the gradient to be so subtle at 4:48 so I duplicated the 2nd layer and made a pink to white custom gradient, deleted the lower third on the new layer and made it go from white to pink.
As someone who is more familiar with Inkscape vs. GIMP, is there any kind of criteria you use to decide to use GIMP over Inkscape (or vice versa) for a project?
If you're wanting a similar gaussian blur effect in GIMP 2.0, where the blur has a better fade such as in the video, just duplicate layer 1, add the blur to it and NOT layer 1, then lower the opacity of the new layer.
Hey Nick i love your videos but i was having problems with this tutorial it seems that you are using a older version of gimp can you do a tutorial of this with the newer version because it seem like the setting on your version is different then mine i'm using version 2.10 this will be alot of help for me thank you and keep up the good work my friend
Ok in GIMP 2.10.18 when I try to change the textbox to dynamic it keeps forcing it back to fixed. Any help for that? Cant seem to find anything about it online.

Even though this is for an older version of GIMP, it's still an awesome tutorial!!
This is awesome! I wrote "space cowboy" and tried to give it the feeling of country music videos from the mid 80s.

Oh that's probably because it is
Thanks for this very detailed tutorial bro. God bless you!
Bro it doesn't work when i click "select none" The color take over all the rectangle of the word
before that you need to press enter
Awesome Q&A! :)
You can lock alpha channel before deselect it
Instead of "select none", click on the "Move Tool" and that will do the trick.
Same.
Wow, just stumbled upon your channel. Gonna be learning a lot here.
Awesome as always!
