how to create a local network in Windows 11 and Windows 10, and how to share files, folders and drives between computers over a network.
These two PCs are connected to a WiFi router.

Gotta love Microsoft for making things so obscure and ridiculous.
Far too complex for average computer users. Doesn't Microsoft vet these features with non geeks? On top of the complexity, they change the names of items in menus so you have to figure out where to go by trial and error.
@@jimw.4812 I can't believe that after over 30 years, instead of making things easier they make things more complicated than ever. All of my Mac friends think I'm crazy for frustrating myself dealing with Microsoft's lack of attention toward it's users.

In twenty-five years of working on Windows computers it is maddening how inconsistent finding PCS on the network can be. Sometimes they show up, sometimes they never show up.
Finally, a thorough, thoughtful and complete tutorial on the subject! I opened this tutorial on both my Win10 and Win11 computers and literally stepped through each step in succession. The only difference I made is rather than create a share file on each computer, I made a single share folder which is now accessible on three shared computers. Any file dropped into the folder is immediately available on the other two. I love it when a plan (finally) comes together!
How you make single shared folder?
@@warpampee Once you create a shared folder on one computer which can be access on the other computer, that's all. You can use that folder to share files between the two computers just like using external drive or usb drive.
This presentation solved every network issue I had between Win 7, Win 10, and Win 11 machines on my network. More thanks I can express.

I have two Win 7 and two Win 10. Both Win 10 PCs cant see each other.

I disagree, My screens on the latest updates of Windows 10, look niothing like the ones in the video, has SOME of the same info, but no Domain or work group option, and its one window, no broken up like his is into panels inside the window.
You must have never visited a library :) Old schooler here....THAT is searching, and takes much longer :)

Thank you so much! I had problem with my laptop which could not see my computer even though the setup was fine. My computer could see my laptop but not the other way around. When you give the tip to create a shortcut at around 7-8 min, that did the job. I looked so many times to find a solution. Thank you for giving the troubleshooting after setting up the parameters. 😊

For a while my pc could not locate the other device. I recalled configuring one of my network guest addresses to not allow visitors to discover/see any of my network devices but access to internet only. Once I switched to a network address without that setting, this worked as planned. Thanks again...good stuff.

This video actually helped me do this. I've been trying to get the damn computers to show up in the network, and they never did, but the shortcuts and the hidden "All Networks" properties at the bottom helped tremendously. Microsoft really doesn't want you to own your own network.
I have just been doing this my 2 PCs and wished I found it earlier as it would have saved me hours. Top Job.😊

Great video. First time I have come across a solution for the 'missing' computers ...\\PC-1 ...no mention of mapping rather than shortcuts.
I remember this issue since 2004. And after 20 years later Windows still has a problem with visibility of a shared folder. 🤣🤣

Excellent. Before watching this video, I did all steps, but couldn't discover both pc's in Network folder in file explorer and I thought I did something wrong. Now I know its possible for PCs not to be connected and not showing on Network folder in file explorer.
We need to type PCs IP address or create shortcut to it.
But what could be the cause? Why won't they show up in Network folder in file explorer, even after a reboot?

Last step is what it is. I did everything, all settings, even as suggested by windows with troubleshooting and adding file sharing discovery, and all failed with PC not visible under networks and even troublshooting shared folder comes back that I do not have permission. Only last step by typing network location directly, is what worked out. Thanks a lot
Last, Windows will never get this right. Folder sharing have been a pain in the A** since windows 7 and yet. Windows is not able to figure it out.
