The HP doesn't have a port to accommodate the LAN cable that has the cable endings like those shown on the video, whilst the ASUS does. Is there a cable that can accommodate the link up between these two laptops?
It worked just fine. I got a 10g card for my seedbox, and my mobo has one 1g and one 10g port, so instead of getting an expensive switch/router, I tried to use an ethernet cable directly. From PC1 (seedbox with regular ssd and hdd) to PC2 (with NVMe) it's fast, but still limited to read speed and write from PC1. Still, less traffic to the router and won't get hangouts from transferring now. Only thing I would add, is to wait a little bit, and deactivate/activate the controller once, sometimes it takes a little bit to figure it all out.
I carefully copied the ip address and dedault gateway for both pc s. Did the sharing settings, restarted both. Now pc 1 has an ethernet connection named network and pc 2 has an ethernet connection named network 2. Also when going back into internet protocol version 4 properties and trying to hit ok the following message pops up : warning multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a single network (such as intranet or the internet) . Both pc s have windows 11 pro
This was very promising, until I got to the penultimate step setting up the PC-1 at around 4:17. That screen is NOT what comes up when choosing 'Advanced sharing settings. It just goes to the previous menu at 3:28... Is there an explanation??? I have a Samsung, Windows-11 Home, version 23H2.
I'm sorry.. The only explanation for the discrepancy between the image on the screen and your Samsung is that the video was made almost a year ago and it was the previous version of Windows 11. And you have the latest Windows 11 update installed.
If you're connected to a modem with built in router do all these settings need to be changed or just the names and micromush account info? I don't want to lose my Internet to share movies around the house and will I only need to set shared folders instead of public folders? I've been messing with settings for years and just can't get things to work correctly after the first connection.
I'm sorry, but to use a local network with a cable connection, you need to disconnect the Internet cable from the PC. And to restore the Internet connection, you need to disconnect the local network cable and change the Internet connection settings.
@ipMalik I have a very important question: would this still work if we “turn off public sharing”? I ask because I worry about if I am doing this tutorial while connected to public WiFi.
@@MathCuriousity If you run a LAN cable from the donut shop to another PC, it will be the same. In this case, it is not the Wi-Fi that provides access, but the network settings and the LAN cable
@@ipMalik yes I understand this but I’m asking you a VERY SPECIFIC QUESTION: if I am on public wifi, performing this experiment with another computer using lan line between both - but I am ALSO on public wifi (say I’m doing your experiment but ALSO on public WiFi), is it safe to “share public folder” and “make network discoverable” ?
Both my Windows 11 Laptops do not have LAN port. But both the PCs have C Type USB port. How to use the C Type USB ports on both the laptops to connect with each other without using internet for file transfer?
This is not a simple question.. Most likely in this case you can transfer data using a special cable and software For example: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D79Q4PDL?language=en_US&linkCode=sl1&linkId=9cb9aa9d644453ed94df3da843e0789c&ref_=as_li_ss_tl&tag=tech-takes-04-20
I am following the same setup as this video, a windows 10 computer connected to a windows 11. Trying to move as much data as possible to the 11 computer. I followed the directions and the 2 computers see each other, but only through the shortcuts, nothing appears under "network" in explorer. Also the only user that appears is "public", which means everything needs to be moved to the public folder before I can move it to the other computer, adding an extra step. Is there a way to avoid this?
You can only move files through the public folder, and if you are currently connecting only through shortcuts, and nothing is displayed in Explorer, then this problem can constantly appear in Windows. PCs can appear in Explorer, they can disappear again.
I followed a similar method and it worked, but when I took lan cable out of router and plugged into laptop for downloading a file, the laptop showed 'No internet' inspite of internet being available. I had to reset the adapter to use wired connection from my router.
With the settings shown in my video, only two computers by mutual agreement can access each other's data, and only those folders that are configured to allow file sharing, PC 1 cannot access data in other folders of PC 2 that are not configured to share, and vice versa. Other PCs by mutual agreement can also connect to the network cable, using the same settings and a splitter, and access and share data from folders configured for shared access. But I don't understand how unknown and third-party computers can access data from these computers without permission, using only public Wi-Fi, without exchanging special settings.
@@ipMalik I’m asking you (as a beginner), is it safe for me to be ON PUBLIC WIFI and “share public folder” while performing your experiment with my two computers ?!
@@MathCuriousity I have already told you everything about this. These settings for data exchange are only for a LAN cable connection, for exchange in a local network using Wi-Fi, other settings are needed. If you are afraid of intruders getting into your shared folders, then do not put secret data in these folders, the publication of which can harm you.
If your burned-out laptop won't turn on, then there's no way... You may be able to open the bottom cover of the laptop using the video tutorial on RUclips, then disconnect the SATA and power cables from the drive and remove it from the laptop. After that, you can connect this drive to your desktop computer and transfer files to your computer, and this will not be difficult. Or you can use a USB drive adapter to connect this drive to another computer, and so on..
I am trying to connect my old Win10 computer to my new Win11 computer and be able move most files and folders from OLD to NEW. Will this setup work or is it possible?

Usually problems arise if one of the steps to do something wrong.. Try step by step to return all the changes on two computers to the original settings, restart the PC and go all the way again from the very beginning, and it is most convenient to do this step by step following the video, that is, pause the video at each step, enter new settings on the PC and then run the next step in the video - so you can achieve the result.
I've added the ip numbers in the small window, but after restarting i couldn't connect to the web. Yet up till now it was connected. After reverting to no numbers, it worked again. Before i could connect two PCs, but after changing the internet provider (and using their modem) i don't have connection between the two computers. I've to properly check it out... 😢
In my video, I said that when using a LAN cable for a local network, there will be no Internet, and in order to resume connecting to the Internet, you need to return all the settings to their original state and connect the Internet cable to the computer.
If you connect two computers with a cable and at that moment there is no Internet connection, what kind of security breach are you talking about? After all, you will not connect the attacker's PC 2 computer to your PC 1 computer with a cable.
Without a router, neither host can even communicate with that DNS address. More simply, you don't even need a DNS address (or even a default gateway) in this scenario.
@@ipMalik Thanks for the reply. So, one has to be wireless, right? Then, for the best security, I'm guessing the internet should be hardwired and the network could be wireless. What do you think? OR, could I get a couple of USB>Ethernet adapters and "create" an extra LAN port on each computer? If so, I'd leave the LAN cables for the internet alone, and be back to networking the computers with a cable the way you show. Hmm.
@@timberwolf7341 Yes, in my opinion this scheme is quite real, but I have not tried to do this and therefore I do not have an exact answer. Perhaps you will find such a solution on the Internet...
Every computer or laptop has a port for connecting a LAN cable to a LAN connector for Internet access. A cable is inserted into the same place to create a local network.
Perhaps with a crossed LAN cable you will have more speed, also the speed depends on the power of the CPU and memory drives on two PCs. My PC-1 and PC-2 have SSDs connected.

Any address is fine. Usually you should choose from a private address range, but in this case it really doesn't matter because there are only two hosts. Ultimately, the connection will use layer 2 MAC addresses to communicate. However, networks in general also need to be routed to external networks, which is why things start with IP addresses. Once these two hosts determine that they are on the same network, they send out an ARP to determine each other's MAC address to directly communicate with each other.

Also when going back into internet protocol version 4 properties and trying to hit ok the following message pops up : warning multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a single network (such as intranet or the internet) . Both pc s have windows 11 pro
It worked perfectly!
Some will require a crossover cable others will switch in the nic.
True enough. But most things are Auto MDI-X for 10+ years. The chances of finding such an old interface is quite low nowadays.
Thank you ❤️
This was very promising, until I got to the penultimate step setting up the PC-1 at around 4:17.
And you have the latest Windows 11 update installed.
it ended up working after all. Thank you @@ipMalik

The settings for this type of connection will only allow access to data for two PCs.
@@ipMalik so if I am on a public WiFi at donut shop and I do this, and do what you said to share public folder, I am safe?
Hello?
@@MathCuriousity If you run a LAN cable from the donut shop to another PC, it will be the same.
In this case, it is not the Wi-Fi that provides access, but the network settings and the LAN cable
@@ipMalik yes I understand this but I’m asking you a VERY SPECIFIC QUESTION: if I am on public wifi, performing this experiment with another computer using lan line between both - but I am ALSO on public wifi (say I’m doing your experiment but ALSO on public WiFi), is it safe to “share public folder” and “make network discoverable” ?
Exactly 🙂🔥👍💯

do you restart both computers?
Both my Windows 11 Laptops do not have LAN port. But both the PCs have C Type USB port. How to use the C Type USB ports on both the laptops to connect with each other without using internet for file transfer?
This is not a simple question..
Most likely in this case you can transfer data using a special cable and software
For example:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D79Q4PDL?language=en_US&linkCode=sl1&linkId=9cb9aa9d644453ed94df3da843e0789c&ref_=as_li_ss_tl&tag=tech-takes-04-20
PCs can appear in Explorer, they can disappear again.
are the IP addresses from each computer? ty
Do you not need a RJ45 crossover LAN cable to use it this way? not the standered Lan cable
Modern computers no longer require a crossover network cable; a regular LAN cable is sufficient😊
@@ipMalik Thank You great to know
@@NeilHodgsonDARKHOURS Ok!
I cant use static ip whats the other option?
I followed a similar method and it worked, but when I took lan cable out of router and plugged into laptop for downloading a file, the laptop showed 'No internet' inspite of internet being available. I had to reset the adapter to use wired connection from my router.
This is fine.
I was told if i am on public wifi, it is dangeorus to do what you suggest “share public folder”…..can you explain why its safe?
If you are afraid of intruders getting into your shared folders, then do not put secret data in these folders, the publication of which can harm you.
how to open or asscess a burned laptop if i want to move the whole hard drive
If your burned-out laptop won't turn on, then there's no way...
You may be able to open the bottom cover of the laptop using the video tutorial on RUclips, then disconnect the SATA and power cables from the drive and remove it from the laptop.
After that, you can connect this drive to your desktop computer and transfer files to your computer, and this will not be difficult.
Or you can use a USB drive adapter to connect this drive to another computer, and so on..
Can i do in multiple computers?
Because i teach 8 students and i want share my screen to thier comouters?
Can i doit???
Yes, sure!
Type in search of the Internet "How to divide the Internet into several devices" and find a suitable option for yourself.

Yes, of course it will work!
@@ipMalik I'm not sure what is going wrong, but I have gone through your full video 3 times, and entered everything as shown. When I try to click on "C" under network on computer #1 (Win 11), I get the error message "Windows cannot access \\COMPUTER NAME\C where I put my actual computer name in. When looking at the network listings on Computer #1, my computer #2 only shows 3 folders. When I go into file explorer on computer #2, the "network" listing only shows computer #2, and only the same 3 folders. I can't see computer #1 from #2 file explorer network. Hope that makes sense.
@@brucejohnson5568 What can I say about your comment:
I made this video on 2 computers, Windows 11 Pro is installed on the new PC, Windows 10 Pro is installed on the old PC, I tested this method several times, always without problems, and only after that I posted the video tutorial on RUclips.
@@ipMalik Thank you for your reply. I will continue trying.

question and all you need is a simple ethernet cable? i ask couse i knew that the cable suppose up to know it have to be reversed on the one side
Yes, a regular network cable is suitable for modern PCs.
When I entered network credentials, that is, the desktop name and the microsoft account name as well my password, it just wont work
Hello!
Most likely there is an error in one of the settings, try to carefully check all settings on both PCs.
Its a pain to setup but it works😅
Ok😊
This is a security concern, your DNS does not need to be set to that IP address. Please explain.
Life daver 😊
With these ports being used to network, how do you connect both computers to the internet router?
At the moment when you connect two PCs with an Internet cable, it is impossible to connect these computers to the Internet.
Perhaps you will find such a solution on the Internet...
what if my pc does not have a part where to put the lan cable
Every computer or laptop has a port for connecting a LAN cable to a LAN connector for Internet access.
A cable is inserted into the same place to create a local network.
Is this connection created using a lan cable or a cross cable?
Usé un cable de red, hoy en día en la mayoría de los casos no es necesario un cable cruzado para tal conexión.
@@ipMalik could be helpful to address that in future videos when appropriate. And maybe a very short explanation of why.
@@ipMalik English please?

Perhaps with a crossed LAN cable you will have more speed, also the speed depends on the power of the CPU and memory drives on two PCs.
My PC-1 and PC-2 have SSDs connected.

Apparently one of the PCs has a Microsoft account and that’s why the problem arose.
Log into Windows with a local account and there will be no problem.
Does Straight through vs. Cross over cabling matters?
For fairly modern computers, this does not matter.
I connected a regular straight cable to a 2014 computer and everything worked without problems.
I don't have microsoft account
So what should I do?
I can't use it?
Open Settings, then open the "Accounts" tab, and look at the top in the middle which account you have, local or Microsoft.
If you have Microsoft, then a little lower open the “Your data” tab and click “Sign in with a local account instead.”
There will be no problems with a local account.

I don't know why this problem appeared..
What determine the ip address used? And why use ip address?
Any address is fine. Usually you should choose from a private address range, but in this case it really doesn't matter because there are only two hosts.
Ultimately, the connection will use layer 2 MAC addresses to communicate. However, networks in general also need to be routed to external networks, which is why things start with IP addresses. Once these two hosts determine that they are on the same network, they send out an ARP to determine each other's MAC address to directly communicate with each other.
And that’s what he showed here or. No?
I am not getting the transfer speed you got there
The data transfer rate depends on:
1. CPU speed on PC 1 and PC 2.
2. Storage media on PC 1 and PC 2.
On my PC 1 and PC 2, the storage media is SSD.
