@@clowderrrnot offended, but some people in indonesia generally want to be seen as modest or able to take care of themselves when visiting others. Leaving a bit of food or not finishing your drink entirely kinda means "I'm good, I don't really need this food/drink". For me, it's a stupid tradition and I actually see more and more people, even one generation above me, admit that they don't like that too.
That tradition still somewhat exists in less urbanized places (ie. poor people in village), other than that you don't really have to worry about it. Even so, you have to know your place.
- Leaving food as someone who's from poorer background when visiting a rich person house means "I'm good, this food doesn't amaze me".
- Leaving food as someone who's rich when visiting a poor person house means "This food doesn't taste as good as what I usually eat".

In the ancient culture of Indonesia, especially Java and Bali, we believe in the goddess of rice, and to honor the goddess of rice, we are taught to always finish the rice until the last grain.
Indonesians are very appreciative of guests, especially foreign guests.
If there is a specific culture rule we don't expect guests to follow that rule (if you make a mistake we know you didn't mean it), we will only be offended if the guest is from the same culture (because we will think you did it on purpose to insult).
The most important thing to us is that you are friendly and accept being reprimanded (If you are reprimanded it means you have made a fatal mistake, usually religious).

As an Irish person, I never knew it was disrespectful to sit in the back
I just asked my Irish friend and she said it depends on the driver and if they look like a creep or not😂
That's because it's not true
I’d always go to sit in the back myself unless I’m with a group too big to fit in the back
me neither 😂
Same lol
