Such a great list for winter ❄️ I’ve read most of these…Crime and Punishment, Catcher, and The Road are in my top books of all time. Eileen is on my TBR and glad you enjoyed it. I don’t think I’m a Keegan fan after reading Small things and Foster. I’m re-reading Rebecca and My Cousin Rachel as Daphne is one of my all-time favorite authors for a slow burn, haunting, dark days, winter read. The Frozen River is an excellent winter read for those who like historical fiction and the audiobook is also a fantastic listen. Happy holidays and thanks as always for your excellent content!!
I was just thinking Eileen oddly fits the season. I still need to check out the movie, and the Small Things Like These film as well. I haven't read Our Wives Under the Sea or All the Lovers in the Night yet. My big winter read this month is Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin.
You are so right crime and punishment is soo well matched with winter. I feel like Russian literature in general just fits with the darker winter months. Something about Russians and the cold...
The more you talk about "The road", the sooner I want to read it, but no I have to finish the book I'm currently in the middle of and save "The Road" until the end of the month/beginning of next year in exam season. The tension keeps on rising for reading this book. Now I only hope I would like it as much as you did. Will let you know about it!
Such a good list ❤ Eileen is next on my TBR to read in the run up to Christmas . Also can't wait to read Small things like these. I read Crime & Punishment in September after wanting to read it for years and it was so bleak so I feel like it might be even more depressing in winter !!!! 😅
The onset of winter is certainly an ideal opportunity for reflection and undertaking a review of the past year. It’s a time for taking stock. Russian literature is made for winter! “Crime and Punishment” is one of my all time favourite books - it’s a compelling mix of plot and philosophy. By any chance, are you planing on reading “The Brothers Karamazov” soon? Great video! Thank you!
@@jackreillygillic thank you so much !! the brothers karamazov is actually the book i’d like to read in january! i’ll hopefully let you know my thoughts on it soon 🤠
Only 2-3 months ago i was on a draught ,and couldnt find any good books to read. Now i have 6 whole big series : ( game of thrones , Storm light archive , malazan the rise of the fallen , shogun , dune and the girl with the dragon tattoo (and its sequels )). + A fair few number of other books.
Another wintery book is Ice by Anna Kavan. It's a surrealist novel written in the Sixties about a post-nuclear apocalypse world buried in an eternal winter, similar to McCarthy's book!
Love this video!! You’re inspiring me to finally tackle Dostoyevsky hahaha, maybe this winter… Also gotta say The Road is probably my least favourite book of all time 😂 it’s always interesting to hear how it worked for other ppl
Geez, queen of darkness. I thought you'd mention at least one uplifting escapist read, like Bridget Jones' Diary. Very well then, The Distant Lover by Christoph Hein will freeze your heart some more.
read Small Things Like These last year and got Foster immediately but I’d been saving it for December. also, try Brothers Karamazov if you haven’t read it yet, it’s veryyy introspective 🫶🏽
I appreciate that the thumbnails of all 4 seasonal reccs line up perfectly. Right left right left. The devil's (read:excellence) is in the details.
