My absolute favorite book ever! I became obsessed with it and it had nothing to do with the hype since I read it YEARS ago for the first time. I am also really happy to see The count of Monte Christo mentioned in the comments. This book made me fall in love with literature years ago 😊
hahahah thank you !! I've seen some people online not like the book that much so I feel the need to really go overboard on my reasoning why I love it lololol and yes so many people have mentioned the the count of monte cristo which is definitely a sign I need to read it asap!

I finished The Secret History a few days ago and it’s put me into a reading slump because I can’t stop thinking about it! I felt empty when i finished it, and i immediately wanted to reread it. Amazing book. I’m going to read the Goldfinch next - hope I love it just as much 🤞 I used to have a fear of big books but i read War & Peace last year so no big book can phase me now haha 😅 Thanks for the recs ❤ just sub’ed ☺️
Crime and Punishment can be quite challenging to read and requires a certain level of patience. It definitely feels dragging on in some parts and vague in others. But after all, it’s worthy because the story just has so many layers of meanings. I would add The Fountainhead and Gone With The Wind. The former literally shaped me into who I am today, while the later is so dramatic it doesn’t feel that long.
definitely agree - it is more of a challenging book but one I think is definitely worth it! and ah my mum LOVES gone with the wind too, this must be my sign to finally read it, thanks so much for recommending!
The Daniel Craig Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie is worth a watch. I liked Babel but the magic system was just sort of there. The longest chunker I think I read that I liked was Wise Man's Fear, in one day, from 4 am to 9 pm. There lots of pee breaks. This past year I read Perdido Street Station at over 800 pages and it was both smart and easy to read. That web dress is cool.
@@Montie-Adkins i loved the movie too! thought it was a great adaption (: and thanks for the other recs, i’ll check them out! (and hehe glad you like the fit)
I totally agree with what you said about counting the books you read in a year. I wanted to read 52 books this year and I feel a bit stressed out by my goal and a lot of big books are accumulating on my shelf and I don't read them, because they stand it the way of my goal. So next year my only reading goals are to read daily and read all the big book that are collecting dust now like "The Secret History", "The God of the Woods", "The Night Circus" or "Circe". Big books I enjoyed this year: Where the Crawdads Sing" (I read it in German and it is almost 500 pages in German), "Hidden Valley Road" by Robert Koler and "Paula" by Isabel Allende.
I agree completely!! I never worry about reading goals and I think doing that takes the stress out of reading as you end up just reading you enjoy (: exciting for you to read the secret history ahhh
The Night Circus is one of the best books ever! I recommend checking out the audiobook from your local library as it’s read by Jim Dale who is an amazing narrator I highly recommend
Books shouldnt be long , just for the sake of it . However if the books/ series are interactive and gripping , i would literally pray for it to be a long read
My issue is I’m either dyslexic or something similar. I have to read slowly, or I start swapping words. I love longer books, but I have to mix in shorter books, or I get stuck. My recommendation would be The Brothers Karamazov. It appears intimidating, and there are some deep philosophical ideas, but at its core, there is just a great story.
i admire that you're still determined to read regardless - love that! the brothers karamozov is one i want to read this winter and i can't wait (: thank you!

I like a long book, even more so if it has a smaller font. Stephen King's 'It' and 'The Stand' are both excellent, as is '11.22.63'. Then there is of course 'The Count of Monte Cristo', also very good, and Robert Galbraith's series, most of which would be considered 'long' books. John Grisham's 'A Time to Kill' is another fab long novel. And I agree with you - there shouldn't be this competition to read as many books as you can. You should read for the enjoyment of it, not simply to hit a target.

Took me sooo long to finish it, but I really liked it. The plot is basically about 4 women working in a lunch box factory becoming involved with crime and disposing of bodies for the yakuza. The characters are insanely fascinating, all of them with their own motivations for actions. Never thought I'd like such a brutal story about women dismembering corpses lol

I profusely implore everyone to check out all of dostoevskys works, its truely a life changing experience that will make you reflect on all your philosophical and moral convictions. The Brothers Karamazov and The Idiot are two absolutely fasicnating novels. The works of Tolstoy are also exceptional especially Anna Karenina and War and Peace. These are all bigger books but they are so worth the time and will put you on a pathway in which your passion for literature will expand to new heights.
@julianfisher8190 The beginning of the novel is a bit of a slug to get through but it picks up throughout. One of the best classics that resonates with us now more than ever with the radical political and social changes that are occurring in western society.
I have both the brothers Karamazov and the idiot and I'm very excited to read them!! think I'm going to wait around winter time to pick these up as it feels like the right time of year to read dostoevsky's work (: anna karenina and war & peace are def ones I'd like to read in future too!
Very interesting and informative video, thank you! I'm currently reading a very long book called The Enchanted Mountain by Thomas Mann. Reading allows you to keep your sanity. Every day, the Russian army attacks civilians in our city with drones, missiles and guided air bombs. Occupiers kill civilians. But we hold on and do not give up. Reading really helps to save the soul. Greetings from Ukraine!
thank you so much for being here! i also have family in ukraine so i understand the struggles you are currently going through - sending you lots of love
in some aspects - it does have a lot of commentary about grief and loss BUT I feel like it's all part of the main character's development in becoming a better person so it feels kinda hopeful too? in the sense there is light at the end of the tunnel even when experiencing grief
So great to hear because I've heard such mixed reviews on the secret history and I just purchased it and now am not excited to read it. But after her review maybe my mind has changed? 😅

Don Quixote 9. Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass 10. Blood Meridian : The Evening Redness in the West
You have an upspeak accent. I notice a lot of younger British people have this, which is probably the result of growing up with American dominant social media applications and content.
Flexing about the length of the books you read is every bit as infantile as the number of books you read. Once you get past, say, 12, other things should motivate you besides such nonsense.
I dont understand how you can call 476 pages long, and page count is not a very good way to compare book length as every format of the same book has a different amount of pages.

_Ducks, Newburyport_ by Lucy Ellmann (2019), 1020 pages.
now that is a BIG book - thanks for the rec, i'll check it out!
@@katerinareem it will make you chuckle if you get the physical book in your hands and browse through it 🤣
I profusely implore everyone to check out all of dostoevskys works, its truely a life changing experience that will make you reflect on all your philosophical and moral convictions.
'Devils' is hard work!
Outlander as well
Very interesting and informative video, thank you!

Thanks for explaining that Dostoyevsky book, now it’s on my list
yay !! happy to hear it (:
Is Goldfinch sad???
in some aspects - it does have a lot of commentary about grief and loss BUT I feel like it's all part of the main character's development in becoming a better person so it feels kinda hopeful too? in the sense there is light at the end of the tunnel even when experiencing grief
@@katerinareem oh ! Thank you 😍
Well what if the guy on the tube was reading so he would meet fellow bookworms? You could have made his day :)
Let us know when you're ready for Gravity's Rainbow.

The Big Books _actually_ worth reading:
0. The Count of Monte Cristo
1. Ulysses
2. The Iliad
3. The Brothers Karamazov
4. House of Leaves
5. Gravity's Rainbow
6. Infinite Jest
7. Mahabharata
8. Don Quixote
9. Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass
10. Blood Meridian : The Evening Redness in the West
You have an upspeak accent. I notice a lot of younger British people have this, which is probably the result of growing up with American dominant social media applications and content.
Okay, so where's 'Ulysees'?
I have the book, just haven't got round to reading it yet
@@katerinareem It's both challenging and wonderful. Work at it and it'll pay you back a thousand fold!
@@julianfisher8190 thank you for the encouragement! def one I will be picking up in the future (:
Please don't say that
Flexing about the length of the books you read is every bit as infantile as the number of books you read. Once you get past, say, 12, other things should motivate you besides such nonsense.
i'm not flexing about the length i read either lol i'm literally just recommending long books i like
I dont understand how you can call 476 pages long, and page count is not a very good way to compare book length as every format of the same book has a different amount of pages.
wait 400-500 pages are considered big????
Big books? Idk these are more intermediate imo
