I've read almost all of them and I loved them all for different reasons. I haven't read The Days of Abandonment, Eileen, I Who Have Never Known Men and Boy Parts yet, but I know that I'll end up loving them too. I've added these to my tbr list which I'll definitely have to read next. 💚
Funny you mentioned the misplaced correlations between American Psycho & Boy Parts. I also saw Boy Parts being advertised by BookTok as a 'female American Psycho' novel, which led to a rather disappointed reading experience for me, having read American Psycho. I do think I still enjoyed it, but it's truly a testament to how skewed expectations can lead to a lackluster reading experience, if you're constantly waiting for it to turn into the thing it was likened to.
same i wish people didn't compare books to others! i feel like 99% of books are different to others and shouldn't be compared because it sets you up for disappointment when a book doesn't live up to another. it's the same way i felt when people compared 'if we were villains' to 'the secret history' - like they don't even come close in comparison!! just an annoying marketing technique
@@katerinareem Yes! If we were villains & The Secret History was another example I was thinking of, iwwv was definitely fun imo, but leagues different from tsh in terms of tone/prose
Recently read I Who Have Never Known Men and cannot stop thinking about it.

Okay im here for this, brat summer simmering into fall vibes.

Didnt read my year of rest and relaxation but it also seems based on premise that it is a critique of capitalism?
i would definitely say so! it def talks about the superficiality of consumerism and how having wealth and success doesn't necessarily make one happy
