I just subscribed a few days ago and I’ve binge watched all your videos. I’m so excited you made a new post. Your channel has single-handedly revived my interest in reading that college absolutely demolished and now I’ve been reading my entire break. I’m currently reading pride and prejudice and the accord of wings and ruins book and I hope to read the de profundis the book you recommended in one of your videos.
This is quite literally my purpose, that makes me so so happy. This even motivates me to read more, especially now that I’ve found myself in a bit of a slump. Thank you for your unintentional encouragement 🥺💌
I really enjoyed how you actually gave quotes from the book! It shows that you plan these videos out and it gives the audience an opportunity to assess whether they want to read said book.
PLEASE you are an angel wow 🥲 I feel so blessed that I am able to offer you some sort of comfort, amidst what you're going through. And trust that you've done the same for me with this comment. Love you!! Please take care of yourself
Now that's A BOOK REVIEW I love how u articulate words to describe a story and tell ur opinion about a literature work ( I'll definitely read whatever u gonna write in future wishing best of luck❤)
This is such a great collection of books. This year I set the goal of reading al of Toni Morrison's novels and I read all 11 of them. It has been such a transformative experience. I plan to reread them month by month in 2025 because they feel like a warm hug.
i love the way you articulate your thoughts and how you talk abt books! also your voice is so soothing, it helped me calm my anxiety down?? 😭 all these books have been on my tbr list for some time now, i hope that 2025 will be the year i finally read them!!
Omg yes let me be your book therapist 😌 thank you for your kind words! Please share your thoughts once you've read any of them, I always love a good chat
I am so glad I found your channel! I hope you don't mind that I feel like leaving a longer comment. First, the atmosphere, your soothing voice, and the soft piano music make this video so calming. It's like balm for the soul. Second, I'm always looking for recommendations that are thought-out and well put - I already checked my local library for a few of them. Third, I find you, as a reader, writer, and literature student, so relatable. 30 books a year is such an attainable reading goal, for me at least. A lot of book tubers read 100+ book per year and I struggle to relate. Some talk about being in a reading slump when they "merely" read 3 books in a month. That'd be a good month for me! And I've only in the recent couple of years become an avid reader, despite having a BA in English literature (English being my second language). But when I was a student in my twenties, one crisis followed the next and I didn't have the mental capacity to read everything that was required, let alone more. I still managed, and read when it mattered: like the entirety of Jackie Kay's canon for my thesis, but I wish I had been as excited about literature then as I am now. Life tends to get in the way. I am in my mid-thirties now and finally what I consider to be a "proper" reader. For the longest time I read as few as one or two books a year, if at all. Then in 2022 I read 13 graphic novels and one novel. I don't typically read graphic novels but they truly got me back into reading: I read 28 books in 2023, and 36 in 2024. To me, that is a great accomplishment, although I still feel like I'm behind, especially on classics. Someone in their mid-thirties with a degree in English lit should be more well-read than me, but all I can do about it is keep reading. I went off on a tangent there, but that's why it makes me so happy to see you, a literature student, an aspiring writer, so interested in reading, sharing her thoughts and feelings and criticism. I just subscribed and am looking forward to more recs and inspiration :)
The way you talk about these books is so articulate, the love you have for them really shows. Lovely video! I read Sula and The Bluest Eye earlier this year, immediate favorites that I think about *often*. I'm currently reading Beloved-- Morrison is truly one of a kind.
I just read and reviewed The Bluest Eye and based on your review, I need to instantly read Sula!! I’ll be ordering it today! I also read Stoner this year and LOVED it!! You’re right… it’s a slow road trip and beautiful. Great video and I just subscribed!
Omg such a beautiful collection of reading you had this year. Ever since I came across this Channel I've been hooked . I can't wait to get into these books and devour it ❤
It’s always so encouraging to see people rediscover their love and enjoyment of reading. I’ve also been feeling too burnt out by college reading to do it for myself. I really don’t want classic literature to feel like a chore. The best thing I’ve read this year was Goodbye to Berlin. At points I had to pause and process just how enjoyable Isherwood’s writing style was 😅. It definitely gave me motivation to dive into modernism, maybe I’ll even find the courage for Virginia Woolf, reading a full book from he’s has always been a daunting concept for me simply because of just how brilliantly intelligent she is in her essays.
I don't normally watch booktube videos fully, but your way of speaking on these books is sooo fun to watch. I felt my heart twang when you spoke about some of these books too. Great recs, will def be taking a look.
I’m directing a production of “for colored girls who considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuff.” My recommended reading list for my actors: all about love (bell hooks), Your Blues Ain’t Like Mine (Bebe Moore Campbell), Coffee Makes You Black (April Sinclair), any poetry collection by Nikki Giovanni, and Collected Poems by Gabriela Mistral (translated by Ursula K Le Guin). Mostly poetry, but the work is a choreopoem. 😊
I took an English course: an author seminar all about James Baldwin, and I agree "The Fire Next Time" is just unreal. Literally that book is just full of quotes that just left me speechless. His writing is just once in a lifetime truly; I have such a love of his writing after that course. The humanity throughout all his works are just perfect.
I would LOVE to take a seminar like that. I completely agree with everything you've said. He often spoke about the apathy in this country, so yes, his humanity was a clear foundation of all his works. He was undoubtedly one of the greatest writers of all time.
I've just stumbled across your channel, and wow. You have wonderful taste, and everything here -- from your style of reviewing, to the ambience you've created -- is so incredibly soothing. Exactly what I needed tonight. Thank you.
i have added several of these recommendations to my TBR, and that is extremely rare for me to do while watching a booktube video. i just kept being like "taste. taste. TASTE" with every book you pulled out! you have this indescribable aura, very magnetic. thank you for this video
I always appreciate your reviews as I’m not usually a classic lit reader. But you’ve gained my interest in them! Great vibes, great annotations, never stop 😌✨
Thank you for the love ☺️ I absolutely love converting readers over to classic literature. I myself am also a recent convert and now it takes up the majority of my reading haha
I just finished reading “Sula” my first Toni Morrison read and I loved it! Wow her writing kinda just changed everything for me. It’s crazyyy how much depth she’s able to give her characters just within the first paragraph of introducing them. As soon as I finished it, I was ready to reread it. I gave it 5 starts too!
You perfectly encapsulated how I feel about Toni Morrison as a writer. The depth of her stories and her characters is super-human, godlike even. She is by far one of my favorite writers. I cannot wait to re-read Sula again, it is truly a masterpiece!
This video was perfect!! Your taste in books is immaculate! I have read or plan to read all of these. I read The Love Letters earlier this year after you recommended it, and now I'm reading De Profundis, also at your recommendation. I'm happy to say both will be in my best books of the year! Thank you!!
i don't know what it is but you bring me so much inspiration to further pursue the kind of life i want to live. i discovered you some weeks ago and I binged all your videos so I was so happy to see you have posted ! I love your taste in books they are so fasnicating and not recommending the same old repeated classics that everyone recommends, really boarding my view and helping me discover the books i have been some how seeking (if that makes sense loll). Can't wait for your next video !
You have made my night with this comment, thank you so much :) I am very happy to be of service to you, your creative endeavors, passions, and your seeking of good literature. I do this for you 🥺💌 Get that life you wanna live girl, it's waiting for you
I love how your books are well loved and annotated. I also just started taking books very seriously as well. I have been up and down with reading since 2015 and now I have officially found my love for it again and so 2025 will be the best reading year for me. That’s awesome that you are going to be a writer. Personally I prefer fast paced reads and not very much of slow reads. I also just subscribed to your channel. I will be binge watching your videos as well 😊Happy Holidays to you 🎄
I absolutely LOVED these book recommendations! This is my first video of yours and the way you express yourself and your opinions on these books makes me want to read them instantly:)) The only one I’ve read on this list was just kids and I found it incredibly heart wrenching and inspiring at the same time. I am from germany so I didn’t know most of the people she mentioned in the book but that didn’t make me love it any less! 😊
the moment i saw the flash of Sula @ 2:17 i knew this was gonna be a greaatttt video. So happy you got back into reading!!! I did the same in 2020 and nothing in the world has made my writing better :D 🥂 to a 2025 full of inspiration and books hehe
I could listen to you review books forever. My goal for 2025 is to finally read Sula and Beloved and your review of Sula is making me feel excited to pick it up even more. Also, I finished Stoner yesterday and that book made me fall in love with literature all over again!
Forever you say? 😌 Please let me know what you think of Sula and/or Beloved once you've finished! My goal is to also read Beloved in 2025, so maybe we can correspond about our thoughts. I'm glad you enjoyed Stoner! That and Sula completely reignited my love for literature as well
i love your book recommendations, i’m definitely going to read Sula and a couple others you mentioned in this video. also your voice is very calming & i love it lol
This is the first video of yours that I've found and omg you have immaculate taste. James Baldwin and Toni Morrison are such incredible writers and I would love to speak with them, too 😭 I bought Vita and Virginia's letters this year and I'm excited to get into them! Especially after you described them, like they hold a very special kind of beauty and tenderness. I hope your next reading year is as satisfying as this one :)
hii i really liked the way you described these books, and the list is amazing. i recently read giovanni's room and i LOVED it, i will definitely be reading the fire next time soon. also i think youre very beautiful
“i wish she were alive” re: toni morrison is so real. i first discovered her in tenth grade (actually through the bluest eye) and it was probably a year after she had died. i remember finishing it and being distraught at not having known about her before she died, despite the fact that i was probably too young to have read any of her works lol. i try to read one morrison per year, and i think 2025 will be the year for sula. not sure if you’ve read beloved yet, but if you haven’t i highly recommend listening to the audiobook that morrison narrates herself while you read on the page-her narration is absolutely incredible and really brings the characters to life. anyways, great video! this is the first i’ve seen from you but i’m def subscribing; your vibe is great!
im so so so happy to see that so many people have found your channel! in your previous video you recommended Sula (described it to me ever so beautifully) and it literally came in the post a couple of days ago! im excited to read it and I thank you again for helping me get back into reading. i hope 2025 treats you very well ma chere.
Hi! So many great books here! Loved Sula and Stoner. As someone that is also aspiring to be a writer of some kind (just shared some of my poetry on the channel) I think it’s so important to read authors that inspire you to write, which may sound silly because every book should be like that right? Well, it’s authors like Toni Morrison and Italo Calvino and Ottessa Moshfegh (just to name a few) that make me think anything ispossible in writing and they inspire me to “pick up the pen” and think outside the box. P.s. I just acquired a biography on Virginia Woolf written by her nephew so I’ll have to let you know what I think! She’s a challenging writer but deeply rewarding and an author I better understood as I dove deeper into poetry! Glad to have discovered your channel and look forward to your future videos!!
I had to read the book "Beloved" by Toni Morrison and do extensive research about it. This has been one of my favorite classics 🖤🖤 Her writing style, her wisdom.. it's so inspiring. God bless this woman 🫶🏽🫶🏽
You convinced me to pick up Love Letters of Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West! I had no idea that they had such an intimate relationship. I'm not much for romance, but this sounds beautiful.
What an exceptional list of books ! The only ones I have not read are the Virginia Woolf books. Sula and Stoner made it into my top 10 books of the year.
@@AnaisLaure gladly.. The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa. Last Day of a Condemned Man, by Victor Hugo. The Loneliness Files, by Athena Dixon and The Elegance of the Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbery. These are all favorites of mine, all translated fiction exception for Athena Dixon essays . I'm pretty much down with any fiction or nonfiction that makes me sad. :) It comforts me for some reason.
you exude such a pleasant, soft and warm vibes, it was a pleasure to listen to you talk !! and your voice was very smooth and silky, as if i was listening to an asmr instead of a book-related video. and of course speaking of books, you have an incredible taste in literature . if i may i'd like to recommend you a novel called transcendent kingdom by yaa gyasi. the author is ghanaian and she tells us of a story of a family that migrated to the us for a better life, how the society treated them, and dives deep into mother-daughter relationship as well as drug use. topics seem heavy but i finished it in less than 2 days because the writing style was so addictive! if u pick it up, i hope u end up enjoying it!:)
You're well-read and eloquent. You're gorgeous and your aesthetic is great! The algorithm was good for recommending this channel ❤😊 new sub. I've heard so many great things about Toni Morrison I can't believe I still haven't read anything by her.
I don’t know if you’ve ever read Orlando by Virginia Woolf, but I’d definitely recommend it. In the quote you mentioned from the letters between Vita and Virginia, Vita calls herself "your Orlando" because Virginia based the book on her. Orlando is such a strange book that is so heavy on character development and it’s cool to know that it’s an ode to her lover. I could say much more about this book, but honestly, it speaks for itself
Yes! I’m reading it rn actually 😌 just started but I’m very excited, knowing what I know about their relationship and all. I’m expecting amazing things. Will definitely be reviewing it once I’m done :)
I was so looking forward to a vlog from you so yay! There are some wonderful interviews with James Baldwin on youtube. One I love is a conversation between him and Nikki Giovanni, whom we sadly lost this past week. Truly heartbreaking. I appreciated The Fire Next Time so much and several others. I have nearly all of his books but haven't read them all yet. I loved Just Kids too and it inspired me to write also. I read it right before getting to see her in person in 2018. And I recently read De Profundis because of your recommendation and it changed the direction of my reading completely and sent me on a non-ficition fest. Thank you for your beautiful and thoughtful vlogs.
You, you are amazing. I have watched that conversation between Baldwin and Giovanni. So thought-provoking and I have to say that I agreed with Giovanni for the majority of it! She was truly a wise and headstrong woman who knew what she valued and what was important and true in life. Please feel free to recommend me some of Baldwin's books that you enjoy! I want to fill my collection with more of him, he is very much one of the greats. And I am so glad that you took the time to read De Profundis because of my review 🥺 my heart is so full, you don't even know. I appreciate you and all your amazing comments/conversation on my channel! Sending you much much love ❤️
Sula was my favorite book of the year for sure. Also one of my favorites of all time. Such incredible writing and storytelling! I don't know if you've read Jazz also by toni Morrison, but i really recommend it.
thank you so much for these recommendations- i am about to binge watch your videos. if you enjoyed a room of one's own, you may also appreciate bell hooks' books on writing: "remembered rapture" and "wounds of passion"
Loving your videos!!! They are so beautiful and relaxing and I love hearing you talk about what you've taken away from these books. I would love some of your WOC and/orBlack feminist literature must reads. ❤
@@txtyy You might have just inspired me to possibly make a video solely about my WOC and Black women literature recommendations! In the literary world, especially on RUclips, these authors are not talked about nearly as much as they should be, in comparison to other big authors. I’m happy to be the one that brings them to light to so many people, it’s truly a blessing. Thank you for this! 🩷
@@o.o2920 LOVE this question. It’s important to make a clear distinction between “people of color” and Black people. Yes, Black people fit into the classification of POC. However, it’s worth highlighting the oppression, the systems of racism, and the hundreds of years of slavery that African Americans have faced, and continue to, in a country that had its foundation built upon this ongoing oppression. So, this is why we make this distinction-because the systematic oppression of Black people in this country (and even globally regarding colonization in various African countries) is a very intricate and deep struggle that other POC have not experienced and cannot relate to. The Black experience is NOT the POC experience. I personally identify as a Black woman before I will ever identify as a WOC, though I fit into that classification. Failing to make this distinction between Black people and POC contributes to Black erasure and lumps the oppression of Black people in with other POC, consequently minimizing the Black experience, when ours is completely different and nuanced. I hope this helps!
@@AnaisLauretysm for replying! i appreciate the explanation :) i guess in my mind it just doesnt make sense to say black AND/OR poc since it implies that black people aren’t poc, but i understand making that distinction. ig thats why terms like bipoc exist, right? but i also think that the point of the term poc is to refer to the experiences that non white people share, so separating racial groups from it doesnt make much sense to me. each racial group deals with its own struggles, so i dont think theres such a thing as a "poc experience" in that sense anyways. but thank you again, i love your videos
i’ve been feeling like i’m in a severe book slump and slump in my life more broadly. seeing your joy for literature has really driven me to consume things that are more meaningful. i see myself in you. new subbie🫶🏾
You're gorgeous and thank you for this thorough and honest review. I will be looking for The Fire Next Time and the Bluest Eye next time I am shopping for books. I think the only book I've read of these five is A Room of Ones Own
I had never heard of De Profundus before, but as you were talking about the way Oscar Wilde gave all he was to someone who gave nothing in return, I was thinking about the way Jesus Christ loves and the fact that, as an eternal being, he did so knowing that some of us would never love him back, and that it would cost him not his life, and he would suffer separation for God the Father, who is literally part of his very being. Then you kept talking, and I knew I absolutely had to red this book. I will likely go buy buy it tomorrow, and I'm so excited to annotate it to the heavens.

Forever you say? 😌 Please let me know what you think of Sula and/or Beloved once you've finished! My goal is to also read Beloved in 2025, so maybe we can correspond about our thoughts. I'm glad you enjoyed Stoner! That and Sula completely reignited my love for literature as well
ur so pretty and i mean it mentally and physically !!>< i loved the video smmm that’s a real books review I’m so excited to read them all!!!
you & your channel are such a dream 🤍
My heart 🥺🫶🏽
i love your book recommendations, i’m definitely going to read Sula and a couple others you mentioned in this video. also your voice is very calming & i love it lol
You should totally do an all time best books vid like i love ur recs and the way u explain yourself
I hope your next reading year is as satisfying as this one :)
im always sooo happy when you post🤎
MY HEART
hii i really liked the way you described these books, and the list is amazing. i recently read giovanni's room and i LOVED it, i will definitely be reading the fire next time soon. also i think youre very beautiful
You have the most calming voice😍
Most of these books I have wanted to read for a long time but this video definitely gave me motivation to read them sooner
im so so so happy to see that so many people have found your channel! in your previous video you recommended Sula (described it to me ever so beautifully) and it literally came in the post a couple of days ago! im excited to read it and I thank you again for helping me get back into reading. i hope 2025 treats you very well ma chere.
I subscribed to you within the first few minutes of this video! Your energy and description of books is very intriguing and wonderful to watch!!
you would make an amazing audiobook reader
toni morrison is unmatched. if i could write 1% as beautifully as she did, i would be content. great video!
such a dreamy channel ✨✨💌
This has been one of my favorite classics 🖤🖤
Her writing style, her wisdom.. it's so inspiring.
You, ma'am, have impeccable taste. Please do share some recommendations if you feel up to it! I would love the insight
Really enjoyed your reviews. My tbr just grew bigger. I think you are going to be a great writer.
I can’t tell you how much this comment has touched me 🥺 thank you
you exude such a pleasant, soft and warm vibes, it was a pleasure to listen to you talk !! and your voice was very smooth and silky, as if i was listening to an asmr instead of a book-related video. and of course speaking of books, you have an incredible taste in literature . if i may i'd like to recommend you a novel called transcendent kingdom by yaa gyasi. the author is ghanaian and she tells us of a story of a family that migrated to the us for a better life, how the society treated them, and dives deep into mother-daughter relationship as well as drug use. topics seem heavy but i finished it in less than 2 days because the writing style was so addictive! if u pick it up, i hope u end up enjoying it!:)
You're well-read and eloquent. You're gorgeous and your aesthetic is great! The algorithm was good for recommending this channel ❤😊 new sub. I've heard so many great things about Toni Morrison I can't believe I still haven't read anything by her.
Such a gem of a video, love these recs!
You should definitely read Sister Outsider! I’m glad to see it on your goodreads tbr :)
Adored everything from your reviews, aesthetic to your articulation! Just subscribed
You’re the sweetest 🥹
vibes are immaculate
So happy to have found you. 💕
Your review of Sula and quotes from The Fire Next Time definitely made me want to check them out, thank you!
Yesss, please let me know your thoughts once you do!
I have read Sula after your review. It’s been on my shelf for at least a few years 😊. Great reviews.
Really good video ! Thank you so much
Love the content 😍😍😍 I too am an English Major and writer!
I’m only a few seconds in this video and I have to say I love the vibe 💅🏾😍🌹❤
Definitely adding some of these to my 2025 reading list 💓
Amazing video - ugh lost for words. Great explanations, helped me add a few TBRs to my list.
Very happy to help :)
thank you so much for these recommendations- i am about to binge watch your videos. if you enjoyed a room of one's own, you may also appreciate bell hooks' books on writing: "remembered rapture" and "wounds of passion"
Vita & Virginia poetry and letters are some of my favourite things to read
Your taste is really good. I read profundis on your recommendation
Ahh thank you! I’m so glad :) How did you like it?
You should definitely read Jane Eyre in conjunction with Wide Sargasso Sea
Ich liebe deine Stimmung 🩵
please make a sapphic book recommendations video if you have any
I love listening to english majors talk
Loving your videos!!! They are so beautiful and relaxing and I love hearing you talk about what you've taken away from these books. I would love some of your WOC and/orBlack feminist literature must reads. ❤
genuine question: why do people say "poc and/or black (or whatever other racial minority)" so frequently? every racial minority falls under poc 😭
@@AnaisLaure Beautifully said!!
@@AnaisLauretysm for replying! i appreciate the explanation :) i guess in my mind it just doesnt make sense to say black AND/OR poc since it implies that black people aren’t poc, but i understand making that distinction. ig thats why terms like bipoc exist, right? but i also think that the point of the term poc is to refer to the experiences that non white people share, so separating racial groups from it doesnt make much sense to me. each racial group deals with its own struggles, so i dont think theres such a thing as a "poc experience" in that sense anyways. but thank you again, i love your videos
i love it here
i’ve been feeling like i’m in a severe book slump and slump in my life more broadly. seeing your joy for literature has really driven me to consume things that are more meaningful. i see myself in you. new subbie🫶🏾
You're gorgeous and thank you for this thorough and honest review. I will be looking for The Fire Next Time and the Bluest Eye next time I am shopping for books. I think the only book I've read of these five is A Room of Ones Own
You are too kind 🤭 please do let me know what you think once you read them!
@AnaisLaure sure, okay!
The aesthetics! It took 2 seconds to hit subscribe. ❤️🔥
the vibes.. i subscribed the seocnd the video started LMAOOO
I love your videos (and your name), you‘re so pretty and i love your book taste💗love from Austria, Nina
Thank you so much ahh! Sending you even more love, Nina 💌
You should read Leon Forrest, William Melvin Kelley, and Wilson Harris
Or, “Here’s some more writers that might be interesting.”
@tananario23 not might be, they are amazing black authors!
I will likely go buy buy it tomorrow, and I'm so excited to annotate it to the heavens.
what a lovely video
Terrific video.
Thank you :)
YAY I SUBSCRIBED
