hi everyone!! happy new year's eve :) just coming in bc i realized that in the chaos of filming this, i forgot a book! Time Shelter by Georgi Gospodinov (trans. by Angela Rodel) was one of my most enjoyable reads of this year as well-it's about a world where 'time shelters' are built for dementia patients to look exactly like past decades, but they start to take over all of society... it was SO inventive & scarily relevant in its discussion of our collective obsession with the past and nostalgia for it (particularly in western countries at the moment). anyways, hope u enjoyed!! xx
I sometimes get bored of book videos because I want informations and knowledge about the books. Dear Kate, thanks to you I got what I’ve always wanted. Thank you for all the descriptions and recommendations. This video and other desriptive videos of yours made me take notes and add books to my new year’s list with knowing the reasons and needs.
oh yay i'm so glad!! i see no point in talking about books if you don't know what they're about HAHA so i'm glad you found some new reads here 😊thank you for watching!!
ahh thank you sm that makes me so incredibly happy!! i really enjoyed your top 10 reads of 2024 vid so i'm excited to get my hands on some of those for 2025 too :) happy new year!!
I really like the fact that you mentioned in the first half of the year you weren’t able to read because sometimes when we see social media, we see like readers they are reading a lot of books like some people have read like 80 or hundred books this year and sometimes like maybe it discourage a person a little Continuing to read I was in a similar situation this year because I also have started a new job and the first half of the year. I had hard time adjusting so just like you I didn’t read a lot at the beginning of the year, but by the end, I also have read more books, basically what I’m saying it’s OK to only read like 10 books a year or something. I think it’s important to enjoy what we are reading and read books in our interest and not to focus on the number.
I took so many screenshots haha can’t wait to read some of your recommendations in 2025! I just discovered your channel but I’m definitely gonna watch your other videos, you give such a kind and peaceful mood to viewers so thank you :)
just found your channel and love this video! inspired to structure my yearly wrap-up like this next year 💕and i have to add go tell it on the mountain to my tbr for this year!!
i already started towards eternity thanks for your recommendation, and i took at least 5 screenshots during this video! thank you for such great summaries 히히
amazing! the same happened with me. read much less than what i usually do because it's my last semester of college and i've been working tirelessly on my thesis. also really glad you liked crooked plow, i'd recommend reading the dark side of skin by jeferson tenório
Thank you for the list / recs! The cover for Indeterminate Inflorescence makes that an buy for me lol You had interesting thoughts on Brandon Taylor's Real Life. I thought that one was really good, but I haven't really enjoyed his following books. Real Life was good enough to me to make me keep coming back though just to see what he does.
a stacked list of so many interesting picks! loved this so much! was touched by your words on Anthony's book. i must get to him!!! wishing you a wonderful reading year in 2025! :))) and get well soon!
AHHH nathan thank you for being such a big part of my reading year in 2024!! can't wait to get to your recs next year hehe & YES i'd love to hear your thoughts on anthony's work :')
sula was a reread for me this year too! & wow the second time around i rlly appreciated it so much more than the first! i also really gotta get around to virginia woolf, i’ve just been so intimidated to start one of her books
i totally feel you about 'sula'!! i definitely need to reread all of morrison's stuff hehe (and finish the ones i haven't read yet!) & i hope you can get to woolf! i think her writing seems a lot scarier than it actually is LOL especially if you accept that some parts of it will just be too wacky/convoluted to understand, the rest really shines!
I saw Claudia Piñeiro in the thumbnail and had to click. I actually loved A Little Luck, so I was disappointed you weren't as into it, but now I have to read Time of the Flies. Also love all of the international reads on the list. A 2025 goal of mine is to decenter US and European writers in my reading.
I’m so glad I found your channel! I love the way you talk about books and read across so many genres (and translated works!)! I revisited Virginia Woolf this year after being overwhelmed by her writing in high school and I’m so glad I did. I loved Mrs. Dalloway but I think The Waves has been my favorite of hers.
i'm so glad you're here!! & i think that's the classic experience with woolf haha i was the same! i think she's so much better read outside of class (it makes her stuff come alive :)) and i still need to read 'the waves'!! hopefully this year :D
yes! what is the deal with brandon taylor! i read his most recent book and I was like ??? all of the characters are the same! it's like a really negative, cynical version of gilmore girls.
omg i had no idea he had a substack!! but yeah i really didn't get the hype 😭😭 so sick of novels that read beautifully but don't make me feel anything !!
so grateful to have found your channel before the year ended 🤍 i’m rekindling my love of books this 2025 and your book reviews sound so intriguing in a way that i’m inclined to read them all

Omg if you liked Calvino you HAVE to read If on a winter’s night a traveler. It’s brilliant!!
i read Toward Eternity too in 2024 and i like it so much too!
I have got many recommendations from this video and would love to read them in 2025
I totally agree with you about Real Life. It was painful to read. I have Butter on my TBR this year. Really enjoyed your video. New subscriber here.
i love mrs dalloway sooooo much too!
idk why i got your video in my algorithm but as a taiwanese person, i love your shirt!!! lol
Mrs dalloway is also my fav book of all time :-))))

Agree on Lorrie Moore
yeah... i might try her work again someday but was just really disappointed with this one!
yes! what is the deal with brandon taylor! i read his most recent book and I was like ??? all of the characters are the same! it's like a really negative, cynical version of gilmore girls.
What is the intro song?
it's 'one for the books' by kevin dailey!
nice video! Do you have a goodreads account? happy new year (:
2:34 OMG THANK YOU!!! I enjoy his substack and SOMETIMES his literary criticism but his novels disappoint every time.
omg i had no idea he had a substack!! but yeah i really didn't get the hype 😭😭 so sick of novels that read beautifully but don't make me feel anything !!
Excellent. I think the translation of "Butter" probably lost some nuance. Happy New Year!
you're definitely right!! i wish i could read the original :') thank you for watching!! happy 2025 ☺
