    As an owner of a 2006 WRX I can say that it’s more than a blast to drive . DO YOUR RESEARCH before you buy. A lot of the older models such as mine are coming up on being 20+ years old. With the age of the vehicle comes natural problems so I’d say maintenance over anything else to begin with. Your first 3 mods should be oil pickup and baffle, Air/Oil separator (AOS), and finally a good tune.

    You guys could've totally worded this to shed a better light. headgasket issues are not prevalent on the 2008+ WRX and STI. That primarily relates to the older cars as the gaskets have a specific coating that causes it to fail. Also yes, under a modded application you can lift a gasket but you can do the same in a honda, nissan, etc. this isn't an issue specific to subaru. These cars require smart owners and not people who look at these cars as just cars. did you know that in the 15+ STI specifically there is a cam phaser issue? throws P0018-P0019. $4000 fix. It's fairly common in this gen STI. From factory the magnet that helps engage the cam is the wrong size and allows carbon to build up causing a failure. ECU pulls timing to save the engine but it's such a radical change that the ECU sticks and needs to be replaced as well. Should also let people know that in 2015 the WRX and STI split into two different platforms. The STI with the EJ257 and that THICCC transmission, and the WRX with the FA20 and the infamous "glass" transmission. Also the STI has a much better suspension, brakes, other than the body the WRX and STI after 2014 were two completely different cars. I'm the proud owner of a 2017 STI. Original owner. It blows my mind all these new people getting into subarus thinking they can mod it like a honda, then i see videos like this that dedicate a 3rd of their video to talking about just mods and not really saying anything....useful..to new owners. DO PROPER RESEARCH people. get away from videos like this. if you want a WRX or an STi. you need to watch every video from the subaru community and test drive multiple versions of both cars. Be smart. Don't do engine mods without a tune. DO NOT DO LARGE MODS LIKE TURBO SWAPS WITHOUT SUPPORTING MODS LIKE INJECTORS AND DO NOT DO ALL THAT WITHOUT A TUNE. Be smart, Be ready to pay alot of money to shops that SPECIALIZE in WRXs and STIs. But take into consideration there's a large, helpful community, and shops with 20+ years experience that know these cars inside and out and are more than willing to help you understand. All this said, my STI is the best daily i've ever owned. Lightly modded at about 308 to the wheels. i eat 98% of cars on the road, i handle Ohio potholes at 120, i love ripping up backroads

    2L engines in GC8s Bug and Blob eyes don't have many issues with head gaskets. It's 2.5s which came in around 2006 onwards. This is because it's just the same block bored out but with no added reinforcement, so they're just weaker and more prone to issues (especially N/As)

  • @Nimoodles

    I'd like to point out that one of the causes of a warped headgasket can also come from cylinder 4 overheating, which is due to only one line of coolant on the driver side of the engine, while the passenger side of the engine has two. You can easily add that coolant line for cylinder 4 and that'll save you from the overheating. Won't save you from the previous owner beating the absolute shit out of their car though.

I've essentially had to become a mechanic to understand whats happening under the hood so i can make informed choices. I live in a small town where ford and gm reign- I took it to a shop here to get my starter changed. The guy opened the hood, looked at me and said, "I'll sell you one but you're gonna take it out right?".

      My trans was 25k miles old when I bought the car and about 2 weeks into me owning it, it went out. So I spent 7k to get it replaced, well 36 miles later my rear diff seized and caused both rear axles and the driveshaft to break. Found out it was because shops don't replace your transmission mounts when you get them replaced. "It's not common for those to fail, so no shop replaces them unless specifically told to by the customer" After I did research I found that this statement I was told by the shop manager is true. They don't replace a $15 part even though I spent 7k. I wish you the best of luck with yours! hopefully you don't have as bad of an experience as I've been having.

    Personally speaking ....loving my 2023 WRX top-spec 6 speed manual. It's fun, fast, tossable, useful, very playful, with lots of flat linear power, poor fuel economy and stiff suspension. Far better tuned than the last generation 2.0 DIT, the engine is quite smooth, very flat and very responsive. It's not my daily driver but more of a weekend runabout and toy so the "issues" of it's poor fuel economy and unforgiving firm suspension on poor roads is really not an issue. It's not the car I would be going on a 9hr road trip to the Maritimes with, but its really fun on the country roads with tonnes of grip and tonnes of low and mid range punch.

    They fixed their head gasket issue My switching to a multi-layer head gasket years ago so I kind of feel like that's an outdated issue at this point it kind of comes down to driver or just sheer bad luck. Also the VAWRX does not have a linear power curve. But really the issue is throwing mods on the car and beating on it without a tune or an improper tune The engine just don't respond to poor care very well

  • @Mt-ze3xe
    @Mt-ze3xe 8 месяцев назад

    Actually, serious head gasket issues only existed in the ej251 and early ej253 engines, not the turbo models’ engines. People believe that theyll buy a subaru and immediately blow a head gasket. It wont. Its not a built rally car, its a production car. Just don’t drive it like a 22b and your head gaskets will be fine.

    I am looking for some advice if anyone can provide. I found a good deal on a 2002 WRX. It is auto which I know sucks to a lot but I don't mind it too much. It has about 110k miles. Car looks good. Needs a bit of love but looks good.

      One of my many dream machines. I hate Ford cars but the old Escort rally cars are gangster as well as the 90's Toyota Celica All-Trac....would love to have one. I own a 2021 WRX base. I agree with how the suspension sucks...feels like a Marine Corps 5-ton...I want some Bilsteins...I just hope the FA 20 lasts longer than my 2012 WRX hatch did...That ej255 was puking oil all over the place...90,000 miles and she died. Never ever beat on it and changed the oil every 3000 miles. Ashame....cheaper to sign up for payments on a new one than to fix it...

      It could be if you're willing to invest in the necessary modifications. The fifth generation has more towards comfort and street driving.

    Any subie before 2015 has a "head gasket "issue"", but like everyone says; Subarus want to be wined and dined, not treated like a piece of garbage, take car of it and it will take care of you.

  • @MrTrapper5
    @MrTrapper5 8 месяцев назад

    As an owner of a 2018 WRX and now a 2020 sti, Subarus stock suspension SUCKS on any dirt or uneven roads.
    Super firm, no forgiveness, bumpy and loud. Great on a pavement mountain road though.
    With that being said, do your research before buying, and plan to upgrade suspension wise as needed if you plan to daily it. Do yourself a favor and keep the engine stock if you don’t have the money to an aftermarket engine set up.

    I had a 2003 bugeye. For 15 years. It was awesome. I had always wanted an STI. So when I was looking for an STI I drove a 2018 wrx. It sucked. Didn’t feel like my ej20 wrx. I drove a 2018 STI. Didn’t like that either. I drove an evo x. It felt more like my 2003 wrx than any of the newer Subarus. So after 15 years of being a Subaru guy. I’m now an EVO guy. I have 2015 evo x. It’s awesome. Subaru lost its way after the 2002-2007 wrx/STI. They got soft and boring.

    Cheap WRX? Maybe a wrx rebuilt car with 200k miles, that isn’t a STI. Or one that’s half dead from a previous owner. A one owner 04-06 STI with under 100k miles, zero crash reports, and in good condition is nearly unobtainable now, and will command the price of 2 used last generation sti cars now. That’s a rare thing to find now for sure. And the same year 04-06 STI, multi owner, beat up with high mileage commands it’s new price nearlynow. But hey, that generation is a great investment car, as it’s probably the next GTO Judge or Copo Camaro to todays generation in their 30s/40s. So hold onto this model if you got one, you can only make good money at this point if you hold onto it.

    Just set aside $5k for a new motor and it’s a great car. And maybe $2k for the trans as it’s made out of glass. Wouldn’t recommend buying one unless it’s a 1 owner. I left the platform thankfully before any of these issues arose.
