  • Why you need to experience a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Lancer Evo Vs STI, Evo 8, Evo 9, Evo x, THIS is why you NEED a Mitsubishi Evo
Today we celebrate the Mitsubishi Evo - and tell you exactly why you NEED one (before it's too late)
If Subaru with that instantly recognizable pink logo are the heroes,
Today’s son of a rally car is the villain…
A villain that's been highlighting the hero’s virtues and flaws for decades
    Even IF you’re team Subaru
You still respect this rally legend…
It emerged for the grueling new stages of Group A rally back in the early ‘90s.
And set its sights on a world title which it took from the clutches of Subaru.
It took over a decade to come to the US, but when it did, you know all four wheels were on fire!
It is of course, the Mitsubishi Evolution…
To truly appreciate the Evo, one must journey back to its inception. The 1990s-a golden era for automotive enthusiasts. And amidst this renaissance, Mitsubishi sought a hero for the World Rally Championship.
Because the WRC had tightened the level of difficulty of its races
and with narrower rally stages, Mitsubishi’s former rally mule, the Galant VR4, was simply too big to be anywhere near competitive in the new compact age of rally.
So, Mitsubishi put the fate of its rally aspirations in the hands of the smaller Lancer sedan. And with a complete swap of Galant VR4 parts, Mitsubishi had built a rally-ready version…
    The Lancer Evolution.
This passing of the Mitsubishi torch would not only lead to the incredibly capable and engaging road car we all know and love, but it would send Mitsubishi to the history books of the WRC.
More specifically, the Mitsubishi works EVO III- driven my Tommi Makinen, took the WRC title in 1996 and spread the true gospel of the EVO throughout the world,
Even though it wasn’t sold in most countries at the time.
Yet despite the EVO’s big win being nearly three decades ago, the spirit of its performance and versatility continued through its entire production life cycle. In fact, the final three generations, the 8, 9 and 10 - are some of the best ones of all. And today, we're going to do our best to convince you you NEED to experience one!

I bought a 2003 EVO VIII in 2005 with 20K miles on it, Apex Silver. I LOVED driving that car!!! I was living in Seattle at the time and there are some really great canyon roads to drive on. I had joing Northwest Evolutions car club and we went on some great rides (one was 35 EVOs going to Mount St. Helen). But, anyone who knew me back then knew it was just a matter of time before I wrecked it. And I did. At 5:30 AM on Jun 10, 2006 I was going (way) too fast for a sweeper (in the rain) and lost control. I crashed into the side of a mountain doing 70 MPH. Luckily, no one was one the road at that time. But, my car was beyond repair. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my EVO. If not for the wreck, I'd still have it today.

From my understanding when I spoke to a Mitsubishi rep, they cut the Evolution due to the fact that Mitsubishi's focus was the SUV and Crossover market. Sales were also low on the X's. Also, Mitsubishi's flagship vehicle is the Outlander, one the company's main focus. On top of that, the company itself is making their millions in warehouse, industrial, and factory equipment, and much, much, more. The company can also drop and leave the car industry all together as their sales volume is a small percent of Mitsubishi's overall gross earnings and revenue each year.
If anything, if the Evolution does come back, the name will come back, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Evolution name is attached to a Crossover or SUV.
At the end of the day, I love Mitsubishi and always will. My journey began with a 95 eclipse in highschool. From their, A 97 eclipse GS-T, then 1999 GSX. Then owned 4) 3g Eclipses, Had a 2001 Eclipse GT Spyder built to be the purple eclipse from 2 fast, but left it pearl white, 3) 2003 Eclipse GTS' 1) Daily, 1) racecar and 1) street car, built to 415 horse. Sold all 3 g's then bought 2) 4g eclipses, 1) 2007 Eclipse SE 5 SPD and 1) 07 Eclipse GT, kept the Eclipse SE for autocross and track use. Finally acquired a Lancer Evo 8 stock,Traded for Evo 9 450 horse, then Traded Evo 9 for Evo X w/600 horse, sold the X, bought another X w/ 480 horse, then traded that in for 2013 Lancer GT Sportback. Modified the Lancer GT currently 485 horse FBO, w/ entire Road Race Catalog, also w/ 200 shots of NOS and 100 Shot Hydrogen to aid the NOS and 4 nozzle purge. Got the Sportback due to space and because I have a family, 2 kids and all their gear fits in the boot. The Evo X, nothing fits in the trunk, due to Rockford Woofer, Washer fluid tanks and battery. Stroller and wagon don't fit in Evo :( it's all good though. I will have another Evo along with a Porsche Panamera 🤙

The prices for Evos can vary, but this video is showing you a sale price from 2018 and comparing it to a sub-1000 mile BaT auction result. I have an Evo IX MR and it is awesome. It is probably the best car anyone can get because not only is it fast with superb handling, it has a timeless style that never looks old. It's also very reliable. It just works.
For people considering to get one, I recommend the Evo IX because - let's be real - it was the last real Evo. The Evo X was a departure from "street legal rally car" into more of a "sporty sedan". The 4G63 is an excellent and proven engine, and in the Evo it delivers an amazing experience. Most Evo IX cars sold (private party) in 2023 for around $45K on average, with several going for $50K or more. These cars are low miles (30K to 50K miles), all original parts, mostly stock. If you are willing to get one with more than 100K miles or one that has a history of invasive mods and/or multiple owners, you can probably pick it up in the low $30s range.
The prices for these cars is probably going to be like the late 90s supra turbos...which steadily increase. And due to the current economic conditions with super-inflation killing the buying power of the dollar, prices are likely to keep climbing. A used Evo IX for $50K is going to be far more satisfying than anything you can buy new in this price range. 1000% facts.

This is a recent (Fall 2023) but uses online pricing from 2018..... That 2006 Evo IX with 103k miles from Florida in 2018 which was sold for $13,500 would today pull in over $20k easily. Do better contemporary research.
On 'idea trim' the one thing many people over look is what cars had the Active Center Differential (ACD). That is what made the Evo truly special. The 2005 Evo 8, 2006 Evo 9 and I believe all the Evo X's had it vs none of the 2003-2004 Evo 8's (possible the 2004 Evo 8 RS had it but not positive). Everything else should be preference but the ACD is required.
