- We've had this customers 4.2 V8 TDI Q7 in workshop for a while now for a turbo upgrade. Rather than starting with the small housings of the GTB1749VK, we have developed this kit that allows fitment of the Audi V12 TDI GTB2260VK turbochargers!
It's been in before for our custom remap taking it from 333bhp & 570ft/lbs to 400bhp & 710ft/lbs
But what power will it do with two V12 turbos strapped to it? 🤔😲

4.2v8 TDI R8 would be next best thing after v12since v12 stands no chance. R8 deserves a big diesel in it!
Darkside should build their own Audi R10, without a dpf so we can actually hear it lol
Don’t forget the v10 TDI too…
There already is a 4.2 V8 TDI R8 in Romania
@@ScottPC v10 is an older technology and cant realy make power we saw in this vid
@@zkljaja 500hp from a 5.0L diesel isn't hard, the manner in which it is delivered probably not as spectacular, but not outside the realm of possibility.
thats an incredible power increase, i wasn't sure i was expecting that much of a gain! even though its a big old bertha, id expect an A8 in this state of tune to be a sensational car to drive
I swear its a q7
@@ahyaan2552 the car in the video is yeah but I’m just saying an A8 with the same mods would be great also
Yes I wld prefer that
The honesty was brutal but respected!
As a vag mechanic here in the us it’s pretty cool to see some of the diesel engines we never get to see. I’ve built some crazy cars like a 850hp rs3 but but we rarely do any diesel work. Mainly just dpf delete and tune if any at all
What a dream it must be to live in a country where there is not almost every car a diesel. Europe is diesel sick and it needs to be cured. People here are usually mind blown when I tell them I have 2 liter petrol (2.0TFSI Gen3). Average European would love to put diesel even inside his lawn mower because you know MPG will be better.
Ive been saying forever i dont understand why with the popularity of the 3.0tdi tuning wouldn't the 4.2 tdi be absolutely awsome tuned up. But no one seems to do it. Its the first 4.2 video ive seen. Maybe because they're only found in the Q7 and A8 and older A6's. Definitely a engine to engine swapped into A4's and other smaller platforms to contend with the RS models!
Fantastic video. More of this please!
Cant wait for the v12 project to begin.
and touaregs and cayennes.
I want like an S5 with that
Swapping a 4.2tdi into a A6 C6 (4F) already is a absolut nightmare.
I would say swapping it into A4's won't happen.
@@FPVForLife yup, too wide
@Sam P And it would be impossible to do with fwd or quattro. The whole engine is in front of the axles.
You are magicians when it comes to diesels and I love it
Llllloooovveeee the project vids, lads! You guys are at your best when breaking new ground 🙌
Love it! V12 abs? What’s the benefit over what the car already had or was it to allow for swapping the calipers? Big job but big results. Keep up the great work - must seem like you’re filming “work” for your team but for those of us that don’t get to see the inside of a workshop- it’s an amazing insight that doesn’t get old. Thank you for sharing.
The ABS keeps the brakes warm better.
That V8 sounds phenominal
Awesome video, guys. Appreciate the update on the v12 manual swap! Any chance there will be a conversion kit once it's done?
Yes!
You mentioned 4.2TDI manual transmission I'm actually seriously looking into doing just that for a D2 S8.
That power gain is mega, must be a bit of fun to drive leaving most stuff for dead.
What a beast,bring on the V12 Content 😊👍💪
Been looking forward to this video. Very cool project!
Loved it! do more Q7 stuff I'm thinking of getting one as a family car. :D
Really enjoy every video you guys do. You work magic on everything I see and really have all the knowhow that fills customers with confidence. Attention to detail impeccable. Look forward to more work with you guys on my 1 series.
V8 tdi or v10 tdi Audi R8 has to be on the list
"It did go well before hand" OH YES .... Anyhow, thank you for this vid gentlemen. May James get the result he wants at "a good price".
If you would do this again I recommend sourcing ex manifolds from 250kW. They are stainless sheet construction allowing you to weld on them no problem, also they have bigger orifice towards the turbos, Audi obv made them better than those old cast ones. 500+HP is impressive even more so with those injectors, not very big. 250kW have them better but the best come from 283kW (A8 D4, Cayenne), runing those on 2000Bar.
the stainless manifolds break down inside like the V6's though!
Ont run from tax man 😂😂 his nervous laugh after this comment is priceless 😂😂😂😂
That’s just how they laugh from that neck of the woods😂
V12 amarok would be amazing way better than a v12 r8
Maybe throw on a torqamp turbo for some extra low end. The newer audi diesel are using electric turbo's anyway. Shouldn't be that difficult.
Shove one them v8s in my 2014 defender 90 what a machine that would be then 👏
Thats really cool, Here in the States i have a 15' Supercharged Q7. Im questioning to upgrade the puller and maybe a cold air intake. Not sure if its a good idea lol
Why not the GTB17 from the newer A8 D4 4.2 385hp? Much more simular, easier to fit maybe also....
Won't make much more power
Brother, if you want to be faster I suggest you try to replace the gears of the front and rear axle tail teeth, as far as I know the front and rear axle speed ratio of the q7 4.2tdi is 4.32, the front and rear axle speed ratio of the Porsche 958 4.2tdi is 2.92, the main reason why the speed of the diesel car is limited is that he also uses the gear ratio of the gasoline car ..... Looking forward to your replacement, my q7 4.2tdi also made it to 400hp after the stock hardware was brushed with the program ....
This is a cool concept
Finally a nice interesting video good job guys
I imagined I speak English but Jesus I did not understand a single word 😂
Fire on the boat 🛶🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The video I have been waiting for. Next mods on my Q7 4.2. After I make a valved exhaust. And fit the meth kit 😍
You sporting a shiner there Ryan ? Keep up the good work. Missed these videos.
Not that I remember!
Left eye beginning of the video. Looked a bit swollen
@@leegooch7545 when the torque is so great that it gives you a black eye....
prob told the missus I was the boss..
That does sound mint
500whp out of a small capacity diesel that's not a Cummins or an OM606 is bloody impressive. It'd be impressive to see what sort of time it rattles off. Is this a Q7 with an 8 speed ZF?
6 speed on these!
@@DarksideDevelopments Holy hell how has that not blown itself to pieces?
Aisin AL1000 can be easily tuned with right tools. Using PCMflash for it, no prob read/write and tune 🙂 no clutches slip
PCMFlash is advertised as a brilliant tool. It wouldn't read an 02E and the support was non-existent
They said drill the mechatronics but couldn't say where
Yeah but this is AL750 (09D), just the car is "facelifted", engine is older BTR lump. AL1000 got greater coverage, not many people do it but some do. Ive got into contact with a guy doing also AL750 so I am yet to test it on mine Q7.
Sounds a bit like Scania V8 which is cool
Belle vidéo 👌 😉. Super 👌. De superbes Audi. 👍Très beau travail ⚒ 😉. Respect 👍
"Waiting for the flange to come".......what channel am I watching ......😱🤣
The escort has got a smelly flange
And ribbed for her pleasure.......
This engine is similar to 4.2 v8 tdi bvn from A8 D3?
Yes
Out of curiosity do you normally offer such package?? What would be the price for that surgery??
We do indeed, got the turbo upgrade kit here - www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/audi-q7-4-2-v8-btr-500hp-turbo-upgrade-kit.html
For full price including labour, tuning etc drop us an email to sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk
So a TDI V8 R8 with a compound v12 turbo setup? 😎
And those 1749vk are hard to find here in Portugal. My pd115 would like one 😅
Guessing this turbo kit would go on an AUDI A8 D$ 4.2tdi aswell? Should be the same engine?
Drop us an email to sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk and we can see if part numbers match
Jesus Christ Paul !! 😂 so handsome
I would pay good money to have a 4.2 7 series AUDI sent here 🤣
I now start every day with "right then"
So you should
Is the 8-speed weaker than the 6-speed? The v12 never got it so I'd assume so. I wonder how the 8-speed would change the driving characteristics of the v12.
8 speed is stronger, it wasn't available when the V12 was
@@DarksideDevelopments Ah, well that’s a shame. This would also be an interesting experiment if you can find a paying customer for that
How much would it cost I've 4.2 v8 tdi twin turbo diesel Audi A8 cheers
Please send us an email with your VIN to sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk for a quote.
Thanks
Whats the difference between the V8D is the Q7 and the Cayenne? Can this upgrade be applied to the Cayenne? Thanks!
They are similar but the q7 is an earlier version so it's unlikely that this upgrade would fit
Great tow car in top gear
hurrah at last 😜
I want to get my q7 4.2tdi booked in with you mate, I did call last week but your voicemail said its all email now. Can I ask what have you done with exhaust there, just catless downpipes with back box still on? Ta mate
Yes, all enquiries are through email now. If you're anting to make a booking, drop us an email to sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk :) and yes, just decats and standard backbox
Sorted will do I'll get an email across to you ASAP ta mate 👍
Is the blip/drop in revs after it goes to 2nd gear then starts to build power & hesitates something that can be mapped out?
I've noticed similar on the V6 3.0 TDI so just wondering if that's the way Audi boxes are
Should be able to map it out yeah
W12!
Good video 👍
That Ryan's a nightmare......
Would it be possible to use the GTB1749VK or whatever the small turbos are called from this 4.2 V8 TDI on the single turbo 3.0TDI as a twinturbo upgrade 🤔
Would be laggier I'd say and not much more power potential
@@DarksideDevelopments yeah better to use gtb2260vk hybrid then much less work and easier.
Just curious. Are there any aftermarket turbos that could match or exceed the V12 units that are bolt in?
We offer this kit with GTD2872's also that are capable of over 700bhp with the right supporting mods
@Darkside Developments thanks for the response. I suspected as much; watching the video and seeing the work needed to get the V12 units installed I automatically thought "this is painful". Great video, though.
some motor this !! i really need to stop messing about and get a cooler on my 335D barge
do you guys have anything for the gearbox on at q7 4,2 tdi. upgrade or just a map
Drop us an email to sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk
all i need is v10 tdi headers for 2260 :D could you imagine
this is a hell of a quick barge. I assume v12 turbos are water cooled 2260 ryte?
Those vnt actuator carriers look awfully cumbersome
Yes and they are!
Would be fun to see this swaped in a a6/a4
Goodluck fitting it in an a4 it’d be a miracle shoehorn😂
@Vel-Éire who knows, they used to have 4.2 gas, and I've seen b8 with the 4.0 twinturbo swap
@@jerridehlinger9689I know it's 8 months down the line but wanted to chime in.
I have the RS4 B8 with the V8, the main difference is it's N/A. And there's no space to fit a turbo, the one modded RS4 I've seen with a turbo had it placed in the spare wheel well in the boot!! And that was single big turbo. It's a really packed in engine.
So, I think an A4 is a big ask to fit these monsters in.
Are these turbos compatible with the Cayenne S 4.1 V8. Would be interested in a new set from you guys, plus downpipe.
It will certainly fit the 4.2, Petrol and diesel are totally different!
@@DarksideDevelopments Thanks guys, I watched your previous video on the Cayenne S your videos got me hooked. I will be in touch with your office to explore options
Snorkels and lift etc should be fine
@@DarksideDevelopments I’m sure you are aware the Cayenne S is also diesel it’s just the Porsche variant of Audi’s 4.2. I will give you guys a call to talk through my options. I’m currently running approx 480 BHP on a 1.5 stage tune with delete. Interested in the Downpipe and maybe upgraded Turbos and injectors if possible.
It's a 4.2, it's the same engine if it's a diesel!
How much is the Cost of this Upgrade?
Here's the cost for the kit - www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/audi-q7-4-2-v8-btr-500hp-turbo-upgrade-kit.html

would those turbos work on a V10?
Possibly with some modifications
Why would you leave torque converter on flex plate?
Why not?
So how long before this is a Available kit 👌👌

We still have it!
@@DarksideDevelopments are you still working on the manual transmission project ?
It's such a rare car no one is creating content on it, you guys are the only ones!
Adapter was sorted already ;)
Did you turn it up a little?
Do you mean after this video?
@@DarksideDevelopments During or after.
This is the max power we could safely get from it safely, without blowing up gearbox or anything else
@@DarksideDevelopments Have you blown one up before? Not being condescending, just curious.
This was already slipping and people have damaged them after tuning and going for more power.
Did you guys get a remap for that hesitation issue?
Yes

Wheel size and bearings
Been looking for a big turbo conversion for my A8 V8 BVN for a long time now. Nobody seems to do them and then this comes along but don't think this conversion would work on my car either. Talk about dangling the carrot and then kicking you in the balls 🤬🤬
Bring the car and we will fit it
big and expensive job. but a Turbolamik TCU swap could work
That looks to be for the 8HP
@@DarksideDevelopments oh I thought these had the 8hp.
Even bigger job and more expensive then. A TCU and Transmission swap
@@FrmerK20 aisin these have
@apteka no 8hp swap is plug and play.
@apteka yes I understand that point but even then its not plug and play. With a controller then it would be plug and play maybe you meant it like that.
You should leave the whirl flaps...its dead on low end because of this
This is incorrect
@@DarksideDevelopments it was so on my a4 3.0 tdi (2006 asb engine)
Please send logs showing this is correct because we have not seen this ever.
@@DarksideDevelopments unfortunately I don't have any, I bought and old wrecked car, whirl flaps was disintegrated, in this period fuel consumption was very poor and all the fun was beyond 3 k, I did the official remap nothing has changed except there was more power, but after changing wrecked flaps on new oe one, I was managed to get fun from 1.5 k of revs, maybe I am wrong, but my friend from audi said that it is common issue...
Would this fit in a defender😂
Strip out that back and make it mid engined 😂
Do I sense a bit of transmission slip going on there ?
He said that himself. Try watching the video maybe
Yes
😍😍😍
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Fok thattt
Seem very tame :/
Restricted by the stock gear box. It would need to be swapped to get more power safely, otherwise it would blow up
I bet with meth injection, bigger injectors and decent fuel pumps it'd hit 600bhp and 1000+ lbft of torque.
Don’t no that much about cars engine but see if you had to run meth would that help with the temps
Ryan on a seperate note, question; I've got a 2013 A6 3.0 tdi quattro 245 with the S-Tronic 7spd. It's got a stage1 on it but has started to slip kind of like this. Do I need to have the box mapped or is there something hardware-wise that needs to be done to the box?
Cheers mate
You can get the box tuned sometimes that sorts it out but if it’s still slipping it’s time to put another clutch pack into it.
@@piovo5222 is that a big and expensive job?
@@CryMoar_ box tuned is about £300, clutch patch from Vw is around £500-1000 then another £400 to get it fitted.
Does anyone know someone around the east to map box? Just south of Cambridge I am.
New clutch is best advised, it might be a pricey job but it will save you in the long run
