Milanote really is one of the easiest ways to organize a creative project. I'm currently using it to develop the setting for and organize my notes for a DnD campaign I'm running.
i feel like a huge reason why "sephora kids" exist is because any time kids and preteens ESPECIALLY girls show interest in things that are actually normal for them to like at that age (ex. anime, kpop, creating OCs, etc) they're shamed out of it because it's deemed "cringey" or childish. then they start trying to "act grown", and the same people who shamed them for acting "cringey" question why they're trying to act grown.
You're not wrong, but it's also more than that. Parents are a big issue for buying/allowing it. One concern is young children using stuff like retinol on their baby skin. Wouldn't be surprised if they get to my age, mid 20s, and have skin problems.
I do see your point and i do agree in some way but at the same time-it is normal for tweens to get into makeup, theres a reason why alot of fashion dolls have makeup gimmick with them, the difference is their getting makeup from an adult store Which like antoer commenter said is the fault of the parent
as a teen i personally experience this every day, like i was shoping for pokemon cards and some kids from my school walked past and looked at me weird while they had a basket full of makeup, ended up crying in the car, lol but i used to know them and they were nice, but the older we got the more they were on their phones and using makeup
The products are not worth the price tag- it's primarily snake oil. The parents should be asked to clean it up for the employees sake, but the true cost of most of these products are pennies. We're suckers for paying for any of it

@@rwl8138 but they're *not* paying for the product, like technically yeah, but realistically they're paying for the time and labor these employees now have to take out of their day (and get no extra time or pay) to clean up after their disrespectful child. Literally even if the parent "cleaned the mess" skin care and makeup stores have to be properly sterilized because if not serious health risks rise up.

It’s not the kids,it’s also parents and the influencers and things they’re subjected to that make kids think that they need makeup to look more pretty or perfect.
And the parents for letting their kids buy these products and think that way, instead of letting their kids know that they’re too young to be worried about something like their looks.
The older I get, the more I find it so disgusting and scary, how society has demonized women aging. Like, why do we not care when men get wrinkles and grey hairs - in fact, many see those traits as being sexy - but when a woman starts showing any signs of age (or, you know, living. Like having stretch marks), they are told that their "value" is dropping, and that it's their fault for not taking better care of themselves? It's so creepy and weird.
Yeah. I think aging is beautiful, and especially in queer folks. I wish it was viewed by everybody about everybody as a sign of accomplishment, like “hey, I went through so much. I actually lived my life, and it shows on my face. Isn’t that wonderful? Isn’t it wonderful that we get to live so long?” Apologies for the slight rant, I just love seeing older queer people, and seeing that we can live that long

I find it so interesting that there seems to be a clear difference in the queer community when it comes to perceiving our own and others body and autonomy VS many cishet people. Probably because many of us have had our autonomy taken away from us at some point. Like we are a bit more large and accepting of others. I'm trans and pan, and have a really weird relationship with how I see my own VS others bodies. I don't really have a preference when it comes to what type of people I find attractive. Skinny, fat, muscular, brown, tan, pale, tall, short - Idc. As long as you take care of yourself, and our personalities click, I will find you attractive. And I couldn't care less about wrinkles, scars, acne, stretch marks etc. But for some reason I can't think of myself the same way. I've only recently learned to accept that I am pretty short. I've always been very skinny due to high metabolism. I hate that I've gotten acne and dry skin certain places on my body due to HRT. I'm terrified of losing my hair. I have an extensive skin care routine. I think it probably stems a bit from my dysphoria, but definitely also growing up as very socially anxious/awkward teen, who was only ever complimented on my looks - like it was the only good quality I had. It's weird.
Im so glad advertising women as products and trophies to be won (in gaming, fast food, makeup) for me is over, largely. It was so rampant I thought that was ok as a kid. Looking back, ads calling women ugly and bitches (in those exact words) for just existing are.... so fucking weird. Why was that ever allowed? It at least seems like that part has stopped past gen Z...
As a librarian, I have to say that libraries can be a place for socializing. Libraries are not the quiet place with the grumpy old librarian shushing you anymore. The library I work at is across the street from a middle school and we have tons of kids in there after school. There are a lot of programs for kids offered as well. So, parents, take your kids to the library!
This !! I know my library has dedicated teen rooms so that kids can be a little chatty without bothering adults who want quiet time. The only ones who get asked to leave is when they had no idea how to behave respectfully to the other people in the area... Things like inappropriate language, don't take your friends phone and go running and screaming through the building as a joke, don't make comments about a girl's clothing when she's not your friend, etc... But that's the sort of thing that's on the parents not the library! There's plenty of regulars who sit quietly chatting and giggling while playing games together! Card games, website games, or even borrowing a meeting room to hook their switch up to the projector for multiplayer game events. So parents, take your kids to the library when they're little and have them grow up knowing that's a safe space! When they are teens they will thank you!
Yeah! My library has some little dedicated hang out rooms so the kids can be a little noisier without making the whole building loud, it's so cool the community spaces that libraries provide ❤

Yes! The library I work/study at has 4 floors: ground and 2nd floor are "loud" while 3rd and 4th are "quiet". Loud means you can talk and socialize, study in groups etc, while the quiet floors are expected to maintain the typical library silence. As someone who can't concentrate in absolute silence, I'm very appreciative of this system where I have a designated place to study but there's background noise
i work at a mall and the place i work at is right next to a sephora. it makes my heart sink to see a flock of 10 year old sephora girls come to get a burrito while they laugh at you for having acne. please leave me alone olivia, i’m trying to make your burrito, don’t make fun of me or else i’ll spit in it. they’re so cruel.
Let's see who will be the last one to laugh when they actually reach puberty and they start getting acne themselves. Like these products aren't going to make them acne-proof, like they probably think right now. They'll see what it's like when they're older.
Seeing the "skincare smoothie" reminds me of when, as a kid, I'd make a potion or whatever out of shampoo and lotion and baby powder and whatnot. A lot of people are saying these kids are cutting out play, but i think the shell of it is still there. It's kind of haunting.
I thought about that as well! Slime videos and making diy slimes were also a trend some time ago - or are they still, idk - I was too old to be interested in the trend, but my 6 years younger sister and her friends went crazy about making their own slimes. Harmless fun, but I'm concerned about the "beautifying" aspect of skincare when it comes to children.
It reminds me of the time my brother poured water, soap, baby power, lotion, and his own pee, into a lampshade. To "make an potion" or so he said (he was 4 at the time, and actually said it was so that when my mum would turn on the lamp, it'd electrocute her. He was a very fucked up little gremlin to say the least.)

I have a Gen A kiddo in my life who has helped me realize the skincare trend is also tied to peer pressure. Without access to the increasingly rapid trend lifecycle via tiktok, they are more likely to be bullied at school. When I was in middle school, girls were judged by the type of jeans they wore; designer jeans were best, abercrombie/hollister were acceptable, and other/unknown brands weren't. Seems to me like high end beauty products are the new designer jeans

my gen alpha brother often comes home crying because he's bullied at school almost every day. i can't imagine how much worse it is for the young girls, as 10 year old girls are extremely mean in any generation. unfortunately bullying has constantly been getting worse with every generation, especially online, and something really needs to be done about it
Fun fact: My sister (a 9y/o gen alpha) one day looked at me, straight in the eye, and said; you know, when I’m a pre teen I’ll start taking care of myself, I don’t want to have any acne scars, my boyfriend would think it’s ugly. (She knows I have acne scars and deal w/ that)
I’m so sorry about that! Kids say the worst things. As someone who struggled with very bad acne and was left with many scars, I know how painful those words can be. There were many times when people would say it was my fault that I had acne and say other mean things about my face. I know it doesn’t seem like it now, but it will pass. FunkyFrogBait also made a great point about this that as well as there being a lack of in person places for tweens to meet there's also a lack of SAFE internet places for them to meet. Theres next to no flash games anymore and the online spam games that do exist now often really enforce the weird social pressures.
I liked how they also mentioned there aren’t a lot of influencers/media specifically for tweens. It goes from coco melon to keeping up with the kardashians. There’s no Hannah Montana or suite life readily available for tweens anymore. And then you have to pay to access it a lot of the time. TikTok is free. And kids are going to mirror what they say, the good and the bad.

I work in the makeup section at Target, and I don't have any problem with tween girls being super into makeup and skincare, but I do have a massive problem with their behavior. They're rude to workers and open/break/steal things right in front of our faces. I literally have to throw away dozens of products a day because of this. And it just puts employees in a really awkward situation where we have to tell these girls to stop or threaten to kick them out of the store while their parents are like two feet away looking at their phones. And, I will say it's not just the girls who do this shit, preteen boys are honestly even worse. They rip apart mannequins, run down aisles knocking everything off the shelves, and try to play porn through the display speakers. Like wtf is going on with this generation of parents, I just don't understand how these kids don't know/care about basic manners and social etiquette. Ironically enough, kids 6 and under usually have great behavior. Like, why are 5 year olds coming up to me and asking where something goes because they want to put it back in the right spot, while the 12 year olds are yelling at me for walking through the background of their tiktok?
Because parents of those 12 year olds are the older millennials who literally can't parent. Parents of 5 year olds are younger millennials who are acting more responsibly.

Don't get me wrong, I love my sister, but she has never really tried when it came to proper, healthy discipline. She just ignored so many red flags that morphed into worse behavior. With her it's either ignoring the behavior or screaming. She would get so mad at me when I would calmly explain and chastise her kids and they always responded positively lol. I wonder why there is that divide in my generation?
Because at some point we decided that the general public really isn’t for children, and if you have a child you need to subdue them at all costs as to not be rude to the other people also in that space. So instead of kids having meltdowns and parents teaching their kid how to behave in public, they just give them an iPad to keep them quiet. Then a good chunk of them watch videos of people being jackasses in public thinking it’s funny. Which definitely doesn’t help.

As someone who WAS a pre-teen around when 2020 happened, i can confirm, its too hot to stay outside in playgrounds all the time and everywhere is so expensive, third places are just gone
As a kid in a small town (not even a grocery store) we didn't have "third places"... My third places were girl scouts, swim team, church choir, and youth group. ALL of those things were run by parents. So I have to agree, that it starts at home. Parents need to step up to the plate TOGETHER. It has to be a united effort. I count myself extremely blessed to grow up in the simple way I did for my first 15 years ❤
A third place is just anywhere that is separated from your home and school/work where you feel like you can relax and hang out. Unfortunately alot of the activities you mentioned are not as accessible as they used to be. So it kinda has to be put squarely on the parents and other adults in their immediate circle.
I had girl scouts, too. And I hated it most of the time because I was pretty much forced to do things I didn't want to do. I cannot tell you what my bronze or silver projects were about; I didn't care about them. I liked the hiking and adventure, but my leader's daughters made it unbearable with their complaining (her youngest is my age). It just felt like school, but at least this time I went on field trips.
It was the same for me growing up we had the city park and the pool but I live in Iowa so those are unusable for over half the year all we have left is the theater it’s no wonder kids make trouble there’s literally nothing else to do bored people cause problems it’s well documented.
Not having Third Places is such a big problem and people don't even realize it. I did not have any third place for most of my life, it was always either school or home. I didn't have friends that could stay over. And you know what happened? I developed severe social anxiety. I don't know how to hang out, or talk to people. I dont know what to do outside of home and work. It's scary and upsetting and I hate the idea that so many kids are going to end up like me. Parents need to make a better effort in raising their kids.
I'm the same way. It's school and house everyday and maybe if I'm lucky I get to stay the night at a family memebers house. But I did go out to hang with my friend one time and it was so amazing to just hangout without having to sit in my room and daydream about a make believe friend group🥲

In my country 🇨🇱 theres a small mall that has diy - yoga -and beauty related(makeup and massages ) activities every thursday on 11 am to 12:30 am , i go everytime i can but i only can do that cause i dont work in a traditional job also im the youngest of the group (25) when all the others are grandmas . ( the mall chain is called "espacio urbano" and offers those activities in every mall of them in the country every thursday on 11 am ) Also i live in the capital (santiago ) so theres hundreds of free courses and activities everywhere , but even with all those options theres the problem of hours cause most of those activities are done early in the day (10 am to 4 pm ) and all pre teens / teens /young adults go to school /work those hours
The thing I keep coming back to is how boring skincare is. Makeup can be creative and experimental, so I understand tweens being interested in it and having fun with it. But there's only so much fun you can have slapping creams onto your face. Even though these kids aren't super young, it's sad to see them already giving up play
I think that's one of the main reasons why Drunk Elephant managed to catch their attention with their 'skincare smoothies', which they demonstrated on their tiktok. While it's an incredibly bad way to put it on (the application of all the products will be very inconsistent across the face) and having disgusting leavings, it's roughly one of the closest things to the childhood interest of making 'potions' with shampoos or mixing up leaves and sticks in mud pies. It's a pity this has become a trend instead of actual creativity toys that could encourage that energy without hazmat teams being needed in Sephora shops.

I absolutely agree that there's a lack of third places, but as a teen public librarian let me say that the library is a great option. We work hard to offer programs for all ages for free and a safe environment. The more community involvement a library can garner the better. Most of us actively seek feedback and implement the feedback we receive. I personally run an anime club, DnD campaign and videogame days on a weekly basis.
This is a problem of service workers not being able to refuse service anymore. It is also making everyone not just kids feel like they can act however they want because the workers can't stand up for themselves in fear of getting fired or sued.
There's also no kid-oriented third spaces on the web either. When I was growing up, we had websites like Club Penguin, Poptropica, Neopets, websites dedicated to hosting and playing flash games, etc. While they weren't perfect (they had product tie-in games and not-so-subtle advertising), they were still exclusively catered to kids and monitored to protect their safety. Now, these websites don't exist anymore, or they have dwindled in popularity and the kids who would be on these websites now have to share the same space with adults on 18+ apps with no added safety measures to protect them.
Unfortunately, the physical places for tweens also known as "Third Places," are no longer available, and the majority of the brands for that demographic are either closed permanently or switched to online retail. And the few brands that are still operating have switched to cater to teenagers or young adult women.

Small nitpick, but hyaluronic acid is fine for children (not necessary, sure, but not dangerous) -- it's a humectant, which means it just draws moisture from the air to the skin. It has "acid" in the name, but it doesn't function at all like a chemical exfoliant like salicylic acid. It's in a lot of lotions kids and preteens probably should be using, like your basic Cerave and drugstore sunscreens like Neutrogena's hydro boost products.
@@pricklypear_vnot really. it’s made out to be an intense ingredient when really it’s main function is to help your skin absorb more moisture and the “acid” content is relatively low and not harmful to anyone unless it’s used incorrectly (and you would have to use A LOT to get a chemical burn from HA). despite acid being in the name, HA has a PH closer to neutral. like if you can put apple juice on your face, something with a higher PH, then HA is fine
Unsupervised children in any retail environment are a nightmare! They leave the store a mess, they sit on display furniture, they take selfies with the products, and then if they actually buy anything they clearly don't understand how credit card machines work
I’m the oldest year of gen alpha (I’m 13) and being raised on an iPad ruined me. I started watching explicit material at age 7 and literally used to hallucinate the iPad when I was younger. The internet is ruining children and the bullying from older generations just makes kids pull away more.
i feel sad for you ipad kids, i remember being addicted to tech when i was young, and the tech we had was nowhere near as addictive as ipads! so i cant imagine trying to rewire your brain to being able to thrive away from the screen. when that's how you grew up. you're impressively self aware of how harmful being raised on the ipad was. but the good news is that you're only 13 and it's not too late for you to have your childhood! try your best to limit your screentime significantly and stay away from explicit things (it seriously damages the brain to see those things when you are a minor!) remember that making and hanging out with friends in person is SO important. really participate in school, join an art or sport club! you can only be 13 once, but you can live online for the rest of your life.
You've expressed the problem very succinctly. I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but it's good to see that you're aware of the impact tech has had on you and other gen alpha kids. Remember, you are still young! You have your whole life ahead of you, you're not ruined, things can get better. It makes me mad that millennials and gen z and now complaining about and putting down gen alpha, despite griping about receiving this treatment ourselves from boomers and gen x. Kids being into skincare for people much older definitely isn't their fault. It's the algorithm. However, the lack of manners and rudeness some these kids puff out their chest with is totally their parents' fault. Some of them are going around like they're the next biggest star and need to be brought down to reality. Side note: I'm never buying a product in store now. That lip balm story has me realing

i’m part of the last generation to really have tween culture (i’m 18). my sister is 12, and the differences between how i grew up and how she’s growing up are insane.
I teach at a school for 6-14 year olds (so literally the definition of gen Alpha) and the thing that upsets me the most about the tweens I teach is an utter lack of hobbies or interests. When I was 13 I wrote books (mainly self-insert fanfiction), played video games, and could without hesitation say who my favourite singer was. It seems to me the classes that are over the age of 11 don't have that. They all know Skibbidy Toilet and the Rizzler but I can ask "what do you do for fun?" and they have NOTHING TO SAY. Fortnite is for kids now (my 8-9 year old class are obsessed with it) and they know scrolling TikTok doesn't count as a hobby, so they have nothing. It's sad, and really hard to gain rapport with the kids because there's only so much a conversation about the latest TikTok trend they've watched can go.
My skin is a total disaster with acne even though I'm now out of puberty. But as someone with ADHD I can't keep up with a twenty stage skincare routine with 50 different products. I've been to a dermatologist and got some cream that had to be kept in a FRIDGE. Because yes I'll go downstairs to the kitchen to clean my damn face every morning. I wish I could manage it, both mentally and financially
Oh no, they don't expect you to clean your face in the kitchen, they expect that you'll buy a micro fridge that sits on your makeup vanity and is exclusively used for skincare products. Ive always been taught that aging is a gift. and im so grateful for that, because i dont look at the wrinkles under my eyes (from smiling) the same way my friends look at the wrinkles under their eyes, or any other signs of aging. Aging is a Beautiful gift.
my younger sister is gen alpha, im 13 yrs older than her, and it is so relieving that she is not like this at all. she has had almost the same kind of childhood as me in a sense, with her lack of technology and our parents encouraging us towards creative and physical hobbies. i used to be a teacher at her school too and seeing other kids who DID act like sephora kids was incredibly alarming lol. im not as hesitant in blaming the parents because i got to know the kids. of course its just one piece of a jenga tower of problems leading to this but if anyone is looking for direct change its not difficult to be a good influence to a kid in your life.
I’d like to gently push back on “libraries are not for socializing”. It’s certainly very much a case by case basis but library I work at has a teen section where the whole point is kids from 13-18 can hang until the library closes for the night. There’s about a dozen computers in there, board games, free art supplies, and a shit ton of manga, comic books, and novels that are specifically marketed towards adolescents. And that’s not even to mention all the shit we have in the back for times when we have scheduled ‘teen hangout’ nights, where we pull out the library’s personal Nintendo Switch and stuff like hula hoops or have dedicated time for kids to study in a casual, friendly in an environment where an adult on staff could help them if they’re stuck on something. If you have a teen in your life or are a teen, PLEASE check your local library for stuff like this. Getting your bodies in the door for things like this is how we stay open because we’re government funded. We need the numbers so we can show we’re a worthwhile public service because we do so much more than just give out books and shush people.

These kids are just doing what kids do - exploring and pushing boundaries. But just like when they were toddlers dumping their food from the high chair, they need to be redirected by their parents. Where the hell are the parents?!? I have a 14yr old, she has been practically raised on screens, but I chose her content and as she got older, and began choosing her own content, I checked in to make sure the content remained appropriate. We also have lots worldly discussions, about what her peers are doing, future plans, etc. My kid doesn't really care about her appearance/make up, all she cares about is chatting on discord, drawing, and watching philosophy/science-tube.
THANK YOU!!! Exactly all of this!! I feel like the people who are the most mean to kid are older teen and 20-somethings without kids. They feel like they know it all and that they never acted annoying!!!! This is all about PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY to teach their kids about whatever the trendy thing is that day. You care about them and talk to them and teach them.
I do feel people undersell libraries a bit as places to socialize. I know they're associated with quiet and solitude, but libraries often have classes and meetups for various topics--sewing, computers, story times, etc. My local library also has things like a lego club and history lessons about our city. You could definitely meet people during those!
Another thing is about I feel is money, most of these children have parents who can hand them their credit card and let them go wild. Of course I'm sure quite a few of these kids simply just have a set budget but it seems like alot of the trouble/harassment to employees is from kids who come from wealth ..
I hate how younger kids, especially girls, are often shammed for not acting older and liking things they should like at their age. The reason they exist is because of bullies or even their parents.
You know all of these behavioural epidemics can genuinely be mitigated with more inclusive and integrative community care. Like the more I see this happen, the more I realize that if we had a genuine sense of community, this would not be an issue. People are expecting children to be more adult- robbing them of their youth. Aging them in order to market to them more effectively. I mean this is just an issue I think is woven so deeply into so many issues. We need community. We need to genuinely embrace humanity and my goodness… I will not blame these children. They are kids. Raising kids is meant to not just be a parent effort but a community effort too. Raising kids is hard af. Idk I am just heated tbh. Like I truly think lack of care is an epidemic that is seeping into every aspect of our lives. Including this one.
I just talked about this during my exam from art didactics today. XD. Teacher was very interested and we connected this situation to passivity/activity debate according to Schiller. We even talked about the loss of third spaces and deletion of tweens. I haven't expected my procrastination to actually be useful. XD

I found your video today because at my local mall a mom and her older daughter (bigger teen or early 20s) were telling what looked like an 11 year old clinging to their sides to "stop following them." They all had Sephora bags and I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought they were related at first and that was the younger sister, but it was just a random girl!!! These kids need serious help.
I don’t even blame the kids for becoming Sephora kids with all the influence out here pushing them towards it. What I do have an issue with kids wise though are the stories of kids being bullies to adult customers and employees and be little mean girls like that is MEAN
I work in the beauty department of a big retail store, and let me just say this: people of ALL AGES somehow think it's acceptable to open lotions and cosmetics and then place them back on the shelves. I have personally witnessed grown adults engage in this behavior. Y'all would be shocked by how much product I throw away every day, and disturbed by how much is probably missed. (We can tell immediately if someone used a lotion with a pump, but not so much with a screw cap.)
one thing I've thought about the younger generation (and this may be biased or a stretch) but what happened to humiliation and guilt and empathy ? I know when I was 15 trying Anastasia dip brow and MILK products, if I dropped the testing brushes or accidentally messed up a tester, I would immediately leave the store out of embarrassment and guilt that I made a mess.... never once would I have yelled at a worker or yelled at a stranger and just played with testers... I knew better but I was also too afraid to be judged and in trouble !! does that make sense ?? idk 😭
if you've seen the content that's targeted to kids on apps like tiktok and youtube, so much of it is about acting outrageous in public. so not only are kids being raised by technology and not learning how to control their emotions and be respectful, but over-the-top loud public displays are being normalized by obnoxious influencers and public prank videos.
The lack of third places definitely exists but where I live (in Europe) we just went for walks or to the playgrounds and bought a cocoa or coffee or a bag of chips. Rarely we did go to malls but it wasn't our first place to hang out. Although, I have to clarify that our cities are pretty walkable
I definitely had similar experiences as a US kid, but that was over a decade ago now. We have parks and such in the US, but they aren't always nearby (most of our communities are built for cars). There's also this cultural fear of letting kids wander on their own born from kidnapping panics. There's a cultural change needed as well as a political one if the US wants to take better care of its children.

There is such an enormous failure in parenting happening to younger gen z and gen alpha kids. Children should not be taught that influencer trends and all of these adult products are normal for them. Kids deserve actual childhoods, and they will grow up to resent not having one. Social media is no place for kids, and if anything, should be extremely limited. We have an entire generation of millennial and gen z parents (saying this as a millennial myself) who thought iPads were the only way they could babysit their kids and we will continue to see the consequences of that.
Preteens wanting to be adults is nothing new. I remember wanting to shave my legs, wear bras, wear makeup, etc. around 11 or 12. I just had access to preteen-appropriate stuff like Clare's makeup with zero pigment. The pandemic was rough for everyone, but I think we older generations don't really understand just how rough it's been for Gen Alpha. I feel like we're failing them by trying to pretend they don't need extra support for their interrupted education and socialization. Of course, we ALSO need to support parents through higher wages, more affordable childcare, paid parental leave and sick days, child tax credits, and universal healthcare. Parents in the U.S. have so few support systems that other countries assume are just a matter-of-fact, and it's having a huge ripple effect.
I’m gen z, and im a 14 year old girl in high school. I love doing skincare and shopping at Sephora but tbh i only started wearing this last year. I don’t have a problem with littler kids wanting to as well but it gets obsessive when they’re making it my problem. 14:57 As a library assistant, I can’t agree on this one. At least in Europe, public libraries are aiming towards becoming a so called „Third Place“ more and more. Lending books becomes less relevant, while the main focus is creating a space where people can meet friends and socialise without having to spend any money. Public libraries mustn’t be a quite place, but a place where you can chat or play video or board games, with free courses and events. And that’s not only for adults, but for teens and kids as well.

I work at Chanel in Macys and the amount of kids AND THEIR MOTHERS that come to my counter just to use the nasty testers or take pictures in my mirrors is insane. I’ve had things stolen by kids, supplies wasted, and huuuge messes made right before close (sometimes they won’t even leave till after close). Teach your children to be respectful and think “hey i want to use this tester lipgloss, but 5000 other people used it this year. Maybe I’ll test it on my hand or ASK THE ASSOCIATE FOR HELP”

I thought it was interesting that you specifically mentioned that libraries are not a good place to socialize, when they are considered a thrid place for many. The library I work for is a part of a community taskforce to increase engagement with middle school aged kids in an effort to keep them involved. We've had a lot of success with role-playing game groups--it's proven to be a great outlet for them.
This is so true. I work as a speech therapist in a school district and this is my first year working in a middle school after working in high schools, and whenever I talk to kids about their hobbies, there’s such stark differences between the answers I got from high schoolers versus middle school kids. And yeah, like duh, they’re different ages, but the vast amount of niche hobbies I learned about from my high schoolers was such a stark contract to the amount of middle schoolers who say they just like watching RUclips videos or playing either Roblox or Minecraft. I’ve maybe had like 2 kids talk about how they play sports outside of school. But I also work in a low income school district, so like the lack of third spaces is very significant in their neighborhoods.
The "Who's really to blame?" part got to me. We have family friends that have a toddler (3 y/o I think) and it just kinda kills me to see them letting the iPad raise that toddler, I grew up almost the same and I was gr00med and s3xually harassed online because I had little to no supervision online and I got myself into those situations, like you said, parenting is hard but there comes a point where you have to have to actually raise your child. I feel like a lack of third places is only part of it. Myself and many others grew up nowhere near places that were curated for these ages. Small rural towns that didn't even have a Walmart nearby. We always found non-destructive things to do.
The thing is, most of these ingredients are dangerous if not used properly on the skin. For example, when using ANY concentration of retinol (the drunk elephant one is especially strong), any exposure to the sun may lead to irritation, and I doubt these kids are wearing any sunscreen. The acids in those ''glow'' toners can be very harsh to young skin and can cause long term damage (damaged skin barrier, premature acne, sensitized skin, etc.). I feel like the companies are partly at fault for making their packaging cater to such young audiences and for poorly advertising their products. Those influencers with seemingly perfect skin that are using ''drunk elephant'' and ''laneige'' most likely get professional treatments done quite often, but I assure you, no one has flawless skin.
Another thing about having no where to hang out, cities aren’t walkable anymore, so if you dont live near your friends, you don’t really see them out side school.

Me and my friend that are both 11 (I’m nearly 12) went ice skating last week and after the ice skating we went into a shopping centre. To go into the shopping centre from the parking lot we had to go through a makeup store or whatever it was. (Idk If it was Sephora but we did see a drunk elephant display and started questioning how much alcohol would it take to make an elephant drunk) when we were walking out of the store I saw some kids that looked older than me and my friend. (They looked around 13) that were shopping there. Anyways, people need to stop bullying kids for liking normal things and let them enjoy themselves on the internet without changing themselves. Gen alpha is literally being raised by the internet so bullying them on the internet is gonna cause problems.
I was raised to embrace my age. That is why at 42 I saw my first white hair and have been showing it off to friends and family. Maintaining my stance with all the outside influences telling me that I should try to look 20 forever is difficult. I can only imagine how hard it is for children who are sponges for information to get to where it's okay to age gracefully when they get to my age.

i’m 14 and since i was 12 i just use a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen every morning lol. i use to have really bad acne and i think(for most cases)simplicity is the best thing for teenagers

A couple of months ago, two of my nieces asked for skincare for their birthdays when they were turning 10/11. This made sense as my sister is an esthetician so they are exposed to us talking about that stuff. However, we didn't let them get unnecessary things. I got them moisturizer (Michigan winters leaves EVERYONE with dry skin), lip gloss (cheap brands like Essence), and hello kitty face masks. I think explained to them why these are the only skin care items they need at their age because despite one of them reaching puberty, neither of them had break outs and we didn't want their skin to start depending on chemicals to heal it. The main problem I have with sephora kids is their parents. Take the time to explain to your kids what their skin needs and doesn't need. All social media apps require you to be 13+ to have an account, monitor what your kid is being exposed to. I saw a video of a mom explaining how her child was bullied at school for getting a normal water cup for Christmas instead of a Stanley. Sit down with your kids and teach them better than creating trend cliques based on wasting money and using products not needed for them. I agree tweens don't really get the tween experience the way we did, but their behavior is not excused and their parents need to give more attention. iPad babies being raised by iPhone adults who can't look away from social media for 10 minutes to build meaningful interactions with their kids.
When i was their age i also mixed makeups together but it was in a Frisbee with water and shit because i thought i was making a potion like magic i certaintly wasnt using it on my face
Im 30 and even when i was a kid i remember going through my mums make up and using her anti aging cream and her being like "you dont need it your a child!" even as a child i knew as a girl it wouldnt be cute to get old and age. And ive been obsessed with skin care and stuff like that ever since, i didnt grow up really with internet (definitely no Instagram and tik tok) i can't imagine what girls are being told about the way they look being wrong. Its making them unhinged. Social media is making them think they need it way more than ever before. Beauty standards are only getting worse, its truly sad we arent encouraged to grow old without trying to stop aging the process. It should be celebrated, not shamed. It should be taught in schools what these products do to you if you dont need them. Because its only going to get worse with all the new products being put out there and being the best new popular thing they feel they need.

The older I get, the more I find it so disgusting and scary, how society has demonized women aging. Like, why do we not care when men get wrinkles and grey hairs - in fact, many see those traits as being sexy - but when a woman starts showing any signs of age (or, you know, living. Like having stretch marks), they are told that their "value" is dropping, and that it's their fault for not taking better care of themselves? It's so creepy and weird.
Yeah. I think aging is beautiful, and especially in queer folks. I wish it was viewed by everybody about everybody as a sign of accomplishment, like “hey, I went through so much. I actually lived my life, and it shows on my face. Isn’t that wonderful? Isn’t it wonderful that we get to live so long?”

I find it so interesting that there seems to be a clear difference in the queer community when it comes to perceiving our own and others body and autonomy VS many cishet people. Probably because many of us have had our autonomy taken away from us at some point. Like we are a bit more large and accepting of others.
I'm trans and pan, and have a really weird relationship with how I see my own VS others bodies. I don't really have a preference when it comes to what type of people I find attractive. Skinny, fat, muscular, brown, tan, pale, tall, short - Idc. As long as you take care of yourself, and our personalities click, I will find you attractive. And I couldn't care less about wrinkles, scars, acne, stretch marks etc.
But for some reason I can't think of myself the same way. I've only recently learned to accept that I am pretty short. I've always been very skinny due to high metabolism. I hate that I've gotten acne and dry skin certain places on my body due to HRT. I'm terrified of losing my hair. I have an extensive skin care routine.
I think it probably stems a bit from my dysphoria, but definitely also growing up as very socially anxious/awkward teen, who was only ever complimented on my looks - like it was the only good quality I had. It's weird.
Im so glad advertising women as products and trophies to be won (in gaming, fast food, makeup) for me is over, largely. It was so rampant I thought that was ok as a kid. Looking back, ads calling women ugly and bitches (in those exact words) for just existing are.... so fucking weird. Why was that ever allowed? It at least seems like that part has stopped past gen Z...
As a librarian, I have to say that libraries can be a place for socializing. Libraries are not the quiet place with the grumpy old librarian shushing you anymore. The library I work at is across the street from a middle school and we have tons of kids in there after school. There are a lot of programs for kids offered as well. So, parents, take your kids to the library!
This !! I know my library has dedicated teen rooms so that kids can be a little chatty without bothering adults who want quiet time. The only ones who get asked to leave is when they had no idea how to behave respectfully to the other people in the area... Things like inappropriate language, don't take your friends phone and go running and screaming through the building as a joke, don't make comments about a girl's clothing when she's not your friend, etc...
But that's the sort of thing that's on the parents not the library!
There's plenty of regulars who sit quietly chatting and giggling while playing games together! Card games, website games, or even borrowing a meeting room to hook their switch up to the projector for multiplayer game events.
So parents, take your kids to the library when they're little and have them grow up knowing that's a safe space! When they are teens they will thank you!

Yes! The library I work/study at has 4 floors: ground and 2nd floor are "loud" while 3rd and 4th are "quiet". Loud means you can talk and socialize, study in groups etc, while the quiet floors are expected to maintain the typical library silence. As someone who can't concentrate in absolute silence, I'm very appreciative of this system where I have a designated place to study but there's background noise

I thought about that as well! Slime videos and making diy slimes were also a trend some time ago - or are they still, idk - I was too old to be interested in the trend, but my 6 years younger sister and her friends went crazy about making their own slimes. Harmless fun, but I'm concerned about the "beautifying" aspect of skincare when it comes to children.

I have a Gen A kiddo in my life who has helped me realize the skincare trend is also tied to peer pressure. Without access to the increasingly rapid trend lifecycle via tiktok, they are more likely to be bullied at school. When I was in middle school, girls were judged by the type of jeans they wore; designer jeans were best, abercrombie/hollister were acceptable, and other/unknown brands weren't. Seems to me like high end beauty products are the new designer jeans

Theres next to no flash games anymore and the online spam games that do exist now often really enforce the weird social pressures.
I liked how they also mentioned there aren’t a lot of influencers/media specifically for tweens. It goes from coco melon to keeping up with the kardashians. There’s no Hannah Montana or suite life readily available for tweens anymore. And then you have to pay to access it a lot of the time. TikTok is free. And kids are going to mirror what they say, the good and the bad.

I work in the makeup section at Target, and I don't have any problem with tween girls being super into makeup and skincare, but I do have a massive problem with their behavior. They're rude to workers and open/break/steal things right in front of our faces. I literally have to throw away dozens of products a day because of this. And it just puts employees in a really awkward situation where we have to tell these girls to stop or threaten to kick them out of the store while their parents are like two feet away looking at their phones. And, I will say it's not just the girls who do this shit, preteen boys are honestly even worse. They rip apart mannequins, run down aisles knocking everything off the shelves, and try to play porn through the display speakers. Like wtf is going on with this generation of parents, I just don't understand how these kids don't know/care about basic manners and social etiquette. Ironically enough, kids 6 and under usually have great behavior. Like, why are 5 year olds coming up to me and asking where something goes because they want to put it back in the right spot, while the 12 year olds are yelling at me for walking through the background of their tiktok?

Don't get me wrong, I love my sister, but she has never really tried when it came to proper, healthy discipline. She just ignored so many red flags that morphed into worse behavior. With her it's either ignoring the behavior or screaming. She would get so mad at me when I would calmly explain and chastise her kids and they always responded positively lol.

As a kid in a small town (not even a grocery store) we didn't have "third places"... My third places were girl scouts, swim team, church choir, and youth group. ALL of those things were run by parents. So I have to agree, that it starts at home. Parents need to step up to the plate TOGETHER. It has to be a united effort. I had girl scouts, too. And I hated it most of the time because I was pretty much forced to do things I didn't want to do. I cannot tell you what my bronze or silver projects were about; I didn't care about them. I liked the hiking and adventure, but my leader's daughters made it unbearable with their complaining (her youngest is my age). It just felt like school, but at least this time I went on field trips.
It was the same for me growing up we had the city park and the pool but I live in Iowa so those are unusable for over half the year all we have left is the theater it’s no wonder kids make trouble there’s literally nothing else to do bored people cause problems it’s well documented.
Not having Third Places is such a big problem and people don't even realize it. I did not have any third place for most of my life, it was always either school or home. I didn't have friends that could stay over. And you know what happened? I developed severe social anxiety. I don't know how to hang out, or talk to people. I dont know what to do outside of home and work. It's scary and upsetting and I hate the idea that so many kids are going to end up like me. Parents need to make a better effort in raising their kids.

Also i live in the capital (santiago ) so theres hundreds of free courses and activities everywhere , but even with all those options theres the problem of hours cause most of those activities are done early in the day (10 am to 4 pm ) and all pre teens / teens /young adults go to school /work those hours
The thing I keep coming back to is how boring skincare is. Makeup can be creative and experimental, so I understand tweens being interested in it and having fun with it. But there's only so much fun you can have slapping creams onto your face. Even though these kids aren't super young, it's sad to see them already giving up play
I think that's one of the main reasons why Drunk Elephant managed to catch their attention with their 'skincare smoothies', which they demonstrated on their tiktok. While it's an incredibly bad way to put it on (the application of all the products will be very inconsistent across the face) and having disgusting leavings, it's roughly one of the closest things to the childhood interest of making 'potions' with shampoos or mixing up leaves and sticks in mud pies. It's a pity this has become a trend instead of actual creativity toys that could encourage that energy without hazmat teams being needed in Sephora shops.

I absolutely agree that there's a lack of third places, but as a teen public librarian let me say that the library is a great option. We work hard to offer programs for all ages for free and a safe environment. The more community involvement a library can garner the better. Most of us actively seek feedback and implement the feedback we receive. I personally run an anime club, DnD campaign and videogame days on a weekly basis.

There's also no kid-oriented third spaces on the web either. When I was growing up, we had websites like Club Penguin, Poptropica, Neopets, websites dedicated to hosting and playing flash games, etc. While they weren't perfect (they had product tie-in games and not-so-subtle advertising), they were still exclusively catered to kids and monitored to protect their safety. Now, these websites don't exist anymore, or they have dwindled in popularity and the kids who would be on these websites now have to share the same space with adults on 18+ apps with no added safety measures to protect them.
Unfortunately, the physical places for tweens also known as "Third Places," are no longer available, and the majority of the brands for that demographic are either closed permanently or switched to online retail. And the few brands that are still operating have switched to cater to teenagers or young adult women.

Small nitpick, but hyaluronic acid is fine for children (not necessary, sure, but not dangerous) -- it's a humectant, which means it just draws moisture from the air to the skin. It has "acid" in the name, but it doesn't function at all like a chemical exfoliant like salicylic acid. It's in a lot of lotions kids and preteens probably should be using, like your basic Cerave and drugstore sunscreens like Neutrogena's hydro boost products.

despite acid being in the name, HA has a PH closer to neutral. like if you can put apple juice on your face, something with a higher PH, then HA is fine
that being said, HA and retinol used at the same time isn’t good if you have sensitive skin but even still, kids shouldn’t be using retinol at all.

Kids being into skincare for people much older definitely isn't their fault. It's the algorithm. However, the lack of manners and rudeness some these kids puff out their chest with is totally their parents' fault. i’m part of the last generation to really have tween culture (i’m 18). my sister is 12, and the differences between how i grew up and how she’s growing up are insane.
I teach at a school for 6-14 year olds (so literally the definition of gen Alpha) and the thing that upsets me the most about the tweens I teach is an utter lack of hobbies or interests. When I was 13 I wrote books (mainly self-insert fanfiction), played video games, and could without hesitation say who my favourite singer was. It seems to me the classes that are over the age of 11 don't have that. They all know Skibbidy Toilet and the Rizzler but I can ask "what do you do for fun?" and they have NOTHING TO SAY. Fortnite is for kids now (my 8-9 year old class are obsessed with it) and they know scrolling TikTok doesn't count as a hobby, so they have nothing. It's sad, and really hard to gain rapport with the kids because there's only so much a conversation about the latest TikTok trend they've watched can go.

my younger sister is gen alpha, im 13 yrs older than her, and it is so relieving that she is not like this at all. she has had almost the same kind of childhood as me in a sense, with her lack of technology and our parents encouraging us towards creative and physical hobbies. i used to be a teacher at her school too and seeing other kids who DID act like sephora kids was incredibly alarming lol. im not as hesitant in blaming the parents because i got to know the kids. of course its just one piece of a jenga tower of problems leading to this but if anyone is looking for direct change its not difficult to be a good influence to a kid in your life.

I’d like to gently push back on “libraries are not for socializing”. It’s certainly very much a case by case basis but library I work at has a teen section where the whole point is kids from 13-18 can hang until the library closes for the night. There’s about a dozen computers in there, board games, free art supplies, and a shit ton of manga, comic books, and novels that are specifically marketed towards adolescents. And that’s not even to mention all the shit we have in the back for times when we have scheduled ‘teen hangout’ nights, where we pull out the library’s personal Nintendo Switch and stuff like hula hoops or have dedicated time for kids to study in a casual, friendly in an environment where an adult on staff could help them if they’re stuck on something.
If you have a teen in your life or are a teen, PLEASE check your local library for stuff like this. Getting your bodies in the door for things like this is how we stay open because we’re government funded. We need the numbers so we can show we’re a worthwhile public service because we do so much more than just give out books and shush people.

These kids are just doing what kids do - exploring and pushing boundaries. But just like when they were toddlers dumping their food from the high chair, they need to be redirected by their parents. Where the hell are the parents?!? I have a 14yr old, she has been practically raised on screens, but I chose her content and as she got older, and began choosing her own content, I checked in to make sure the content remained appropriate. We also have lots worldly discussions, about what her peers are doing, future plans, etc. My kid doesn't really care about her appearance/make up, all she cares about is chatting on discord, drawing, and watching philosophy/science-tube.

I do feel people undersell libraries a bit as places to socialize. I know they're associated with quiet and solitude, but libraries often have classes and meetups for various topics--sewing, computers, story times, etc. My local library also has things like a lego club and history lessons about our city. You could definitely meet people during those!
Another thing is about I feel is money, most of these children have parents who can hand them their credit card and let them go wild. Of course I'm sure quite a few of these kids simply just have a set budget but it seems like alot of the trouble/harassment to employees is from kids who come from wealth ..

I found your video today because at my local mall a mom and her older daughter (bigger teen or early 20s) were telling what looked like an 11 year old clinging to their sides to "stop following them." They all had Sephora bags and I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought they were related at first and that was the younger sister, but it was just a random girl!!! These kids need serious help.
I don’t even blame the kids for becoming Sephora kids with all the influence out here pushing them towards it. What I do have an issue with kids wise though are the stories of kids being bullies to adult customers and employees and be little mean girls like that is MEAN
I work in the beauty department of a big retail store, and let me just say this: people of ALL AGES somehow think it's acceptable to open lotions and cosmetics and then place them back on the shelves. I have personally witnessed grown adults engage in this behavior.
Y'all would be shocked by how much product I throw away every day, and disturbed by how much is probably missed. (We can tell immediately if someone used a lotion with a pump, but not so much with a screw cap.)
one thing I've thought about the younger generation (and this may be biased or a stretch) but what happened to humiliation and guilt and empathy ? I know when I was 15 trying Anastasia dip brow and MILK products, if I dropped the testing brushes or accidentally messed up a tester, I would immediately leave the store out of embarrassment and guilt that I made a mess.... never once would I have yelled at a worker or yelled at a stranger and just played with testers... I knew better but I was also too afraid to be judged and in trouble !! does that make sense ?? idk 😭
if you've seen the content that's targeted to kids on apps like tiktok and youtube, so much of it is about acting outrageous in public. so not only are kids being raised by technology and not learning how to control their emotions and be respectful, but over-the-top loud public displays are being normalized by obnoxious influencers and public prank videos.

The lack of third places definitely exists but where I live (in Europe) we just went for walks or to the playgrounds and bought a cocoa or coffee or a bag of chips. Rarely we did go to malls but it wasn't our first place to hang out. Although, I have to clarify that our cities are pretty walkable
I definitely had similar experiences as a US kid, but that was over a decade ago now. We have parks and such in the US, but they aren't always nearby (most of our communities are built for cars). There's also this cultural fear of letting kids wander on their own born from kidnapping panics. There's a cultural change needed as well as a political one if the US wants to take better care of its children.

There is such an enormous failure in parenting happening to younger gen z and gen alpha kids. Children should not be taught that influencer trends and all of these adult products are normal for them. Kids deserve actual childhoods, and they will grow up to resent not having one. Social media is no place for kids, and if anything, should be extremely limited. We have an entire generation of millennial and gen z parents (saying this as a millennial myself) who thought iPads were the only way they could babysit their kids and we will continue to see the consequences of that.
Preteens wanting to be adults is nothing new. I remember wanting to shave my legs, wear bras, wear makeup, etc. around 11 or 12. I just had access to preteen-appropriate stuff like Clare's makeup with zero pigment. The pandemic was rough for everyone, but I think we older generations don't really understand just how rough it's been for Gen Alpha. I feel like we're failing them by trying to pretend they don't need extra support for their interrupted education and socialization. Of course, we ALSO need to support parents through higher wages, more affordable childcare, paid parental leave and sick days, child tax credits, and universal healthcare. Parents in the U.S. have so few support systems that other countries assume are just a matter-of-fact, and it's having a huge ripple effect.
I’m gen z, and im a 14 year old girl in high school. I love doing skincare and shopping at Sephora but tbh i only started wearing this last year. I don’t have a problem with littler kids wanting to as well but it gets obsessive when they’re making it my problem. Like all the testers being destroyed, literal fights breaking out over drunk elephant like what has gen alpha come to😭💀 also why are they paying 70 dollars for serum that makes wrinkles go away babes baby teeth havnt even fallen all the way out yet😭💀
14:57 As a library assistant, I can’t agree on this one. At least in Europe, public libraries are aiming towards becoming a so called „Third Place“ more and more. Lending books becomes less relevant, while the main focus is creating a space where people can meet friends and socialise without having to spend any money. Public libraries mustn’t be a quite place, but a place where you can chat or play video or board games, with free courses and events. And that’s not only for adults, but for teens and kids as well.

And said, but ur a guy? And he just stared cackling
I work at Chanel in Macys and the amount of kids AND THEIR MOTHERS that come to my counter just to use the nasty testers or take pictures in my mirrors is insane. I’ve had things stolen by kids, supplies wasted, and huuuge messes made right before close (sometimes they won’t even leave till after close). Teach your children to be respectful and think “hey i want to use this tester lipgloss, but 5000 other people used it this year. Maybe I’ll test it on my hand or ASK THE ASSOCIATE FOR HELP”

I thought it was interesting that you specifically mentioned that libraries are not a good place to socialize, when they are considered a thrid place for many. The library I work for is a part of a community taskforce to increase engagement with middle school aged kids in an effort to keep them involved. We've had a lot of success with role-playing game groups--it's proven to be a great outlet for them.
This is so true. I work as a speech therapist in a school district and this is my first year working in a middle school after working in high schools, and whenever I talk to kids about their hobbies, there’s such stark differences between the answers I got from high schoolers versus middle school kids. And yeah, like duh, they’re different ages, but the vast amount of niche hobbies I learned about from my high schoolers was such a stark contract to the amount of middle schoolers who say they just like watching RUclips videos or playing either Roblox or Minecraft. I’ve maybe had like 2 kids talk about how they play sports outside of school. But I also work in a low income school district, so like the lack of third spaces is very significant in their neighborhoods.
The "Who's really to blame?" part got to me. We have family friends that have a toddler (3 y/o I think)
and it just kinda kills me to see them letting the iPad raise that toddler, I grew up almost the same and I was gr00med and s3xually harassed online because I had little to no supervision online and I got myself into those situations, like you said, parenting is hard but there comes a point where you have to have to actually raise your child. And im not joking, every time they come over to our house she either has her iPad to play games on or make us put on the same 2 movies on for while we want to watch the tele but no, the 3 y/o has to watch her Coco or she''ll throw a tantrum. Please raise your children.
19:45 what a lot of people miss when saying how old Gen alpha is is that Gen z is everyone born in 1997-2013 so although Gen alpha technically is 2010-2024 everyone born 2010-2013 is stuck in this sort of weird middle space where essentially they get to choose their generation
Roller rinks aren’t dead and if it is in your area then it’s a perfect place to start some tween themed events to get it going again 😀 being able to skate is so beneficial they can hang out get exercise and gain skills 😊
I feel like a lack of third places is only part of it. Myself and many others grew up nowhere near places that were curated for these ages. Small rural towns that didn't even have a Walmart nearby. We always found non-destructive things to do.
The thing is, most of these ingredients are dangerous if not used properly on the skin. For example, when using ANY concentration of retinol (the drunk elephant one is especially strong), any exposure to the sun may lead to irritation, and I doubt these kids are wearing any sunscreen. The acids in those ''glow'' toners can be very harsh to young skin and can cause long term damage (damaged skin barrier, premature acne, sensitized skin, etc.). I feel like the companies are partly at fault for making their packaging cater to such young audiences and for poorly advertising their products. Those influencers with seemingly perfect skin that are using ''drunk elephant'' and ''laneige'' most likely get professional treatments done quite often, but I assure you, no one has flawless skin.
Another thing about having no where to hang out, cities aren’t walkable anymore, so if you dont live near your friends, you don’t really see them out side school.

spending time with older family members is the best way to combat fear of aging imo. i (20) am not afraid to age, because i look forward to being like my 70 year old aunt - independent, with a busy social life, fulfilling job as a researcher, her own apartment furnished how she likes, no husband or kids, just great vibes. i hope capitalism doesn't stop me from having that someday.

Me and my friend that are both 11 (I’m nearly 12) went ice skating last week and after the ice skating we went into a shopping centre. To go into the shopping centre from the parking lot we had to go through a makeup store or whatever it was. (Idk If it was Sephora but we did see a drunk elephant display and started questioning how much alcohol would it take to make an elephant drunk) when we were walking out of the store I saw some kids that looked older than me and my friend. (They looked around 13) that were shopping there.
Anyways, people need to stop bullying kids for liking normal things and let them enjoy themselves on the internet without changing themselves. Gen alpha is literally being raised by the internet so bullying them on the internet is gonna cause problems.
I was raised to embrace my age. That is why at 42 I saw my first white hair and have been showing it off to friends and family. Maintaining my stance with all the outside influences telling me that I should try to look 20 forever is difficult. I can only imagine how hard it is for children who are sponges for information to get to where it's okay to age gracefully when they get to my age.

i’m 14 and since i was 12 i just use a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen every morning lol. i use to have really bad acne and i think(for most cases)simplicity is the best thing for teenagers

as the parent of a zalpha, I immediately felt exhausted when I heard 'rizz' and 'fortnight' in the same sentence.
A couple of months ago, two of my nieces asked for skincare for their birthdays when they were turning 10/11. This made sense as my sister is an esthetician so they are exposed to us talking about that stuff. However, we didn't let them get unnecessary things. I got them moisturizer (Michigan winters leaves EVERYONE with dry skin), lip gloss (cheap brands like Essence), and hello kitty face masks. I think explained to them why these are the only skin care items they need at their age because despite one of them reaching puberty, neither of them had break outs and we didn't want their skin to start depending on chemicals to heal it.
The main problem I have with sephora kids is their parents. Take the time to explain to your kids what their skin needs and doesn't need. All social media apps require you to be 13+ to have an account, monitor what your kid is being exposed to. I saw a video of a mom explaining how her child was bullied at school for getting a normal water cup for Christmas instead of a Stanley. Sit down with your kids and teach them better than creating trend cliques based on wasting money and using products not needed for them. I agree tweens don't really get the tween experience the way we did, but their behavior is not excused and their parents need to give more attention. iPad babies being raised by iPhone adults who can't look away from social media for 10 minutes to build meaningful interactions with their kids.
When i was their age i also mixed makeups together but it was in a Frisbee with water and shit because i thought i was making a potion like magic i certaintly wasnt using it on my face
Im 30 and even when i was a kid i remember going through my mums make up and using her anti aging cream and her being like "you dont need it your a child!" even as a child i knew as a girl it wouldnt be cute to get old and age. And ive been obsessed with skin care and stuff like that ever since, i didnt grow up really with internet (definitely no Instagram and tik tok) i can't imagine what girls are being told about the way they look being wrong. Its making them unhinged. Social media is making them think they need it way more than ever before. Beauty standards are only getting worse, its truly sad we arent encouraged to grow old without trying to stop aging the process. It should be celebrated, not shamed. It should be taught in schools what these products do to you if you dont need them. Because its only going to get worse with all the new products being put out there and being the best new popular thing they feel they need.
