Or hormonal issues. May be diabetes insipidus or diabetes. Or low estrogen as some others already mentioned.

My mother is postmenopausal. She has those issues because of the low estrogen. Her pelvic floor muscle is very weak because of that. She was advised to use ems device to strenghten the muscle. If it doesn't help a surgical procedure will be an option for her.

@Agata_Balbina Vaginal oestrogen really helps reduce the feeling of needing to pee all the time (in addition to strengthening and relaxing pelvic floor muscles, and doing the things Dr Stacy is suggesting here).

For me, it’s normally eating too much simple carbs/sugars and caffeine. Eating more protein actually helps a lot.

If you're a woman north of 40, it may be low estrogen (estradiol)

This works. I had a salt-free diet, getting my sodium from veggies primarily. Had this issue. Was drinking RO water, but not a lot... had juicy food though, so water content high. About a month or two ago I switched to well water, added tiny amt of salt to the water, and am now only getting up once to pee at night, instead of 3 or more times. I am retaining water a bit more than before, but that's part of the point. Daily sodium levels still under upper limit recommendations, so all good. May get to point of no pee overnight at all, we'll see.

Bladder is smooth muscle and loses magnesium quickly; magnesium deficiency is extremely common and leads to a lot of issues including less bladder control (caffeine, alcohol, stress and sugar depletes our magnesium stores daily…).

I agree 💯 if I drink a lot during the day, I get up 2 - 3 times a night. Now I am more mindful of how much water I drink during the day and do so much better.

Way over simplified, if that's is all there was to the discussion. Menopause can cause getting up at night that didn't happen previously, no matter how well one regulates fluid intake amount and timing.

Add sodium? But every source I can find online says reduce salt intake to improve night time peeing.

I have discovered that I pee because I wake up. If I'm at someone else's house. I usually sleep through the night and only pee once. At home, sounds from pets wake me. Then since I'm up I think I might as well pee.

It may be hormonal. I pee more at night near ovulation. After bleeding I don’t.

Hmm "someone" Simon? I stop drinking a few hours before bed and don't get up during the night. I just make sure I drink plenty during the day and never feel thirsty at night. Some ppl do seem to have smaller bladders though lol
