- I give you my thoughts on why the 2023 Dodge Demon 170 is such an amazing feat of engineering and why Dodge took such a huge risk in making it. It is most amazing muscle car ever made but will it beat the mighty Tesla Model S Plaid? Only time will tell.

Tbh, i love both challanger and mustang the same way, i see them as the best car duo. It really broke my heart, owning each of those in my 2 car garage was my dream... it hurt.

Dodge definitely stepped up their game with the 170! I’m a GM guy but that car is awesome and I would be proud to own one! Can’t wait to see yours and how it runs on the track!
Dodge set the bar with the Hell Cat 707 horse power no one had done that before with a production car I like the way Dodge is always evolving keep pushing what they can get out of their cars on the strip.

But lets not loose sight of the 2.6 second 0-60 and 10 flat 1/4 mile in stock trim/tune/tires...my point was that the demon 170 requires ethenol tune and slicks to get it e.t's....and the Z06 with equal horsepower would easily beat it...and a 900 horse version is coming, just not released yet

Dangerous cars to own. Another car jacking just happened in Fayetteville NC. Guy was shot and died. This stuff is sooo disheartening on these cars that we all work hard for and just want to be left alone to enjoy

I think the Demon 170 is definitely a cool car, but like you mentioned there will be a lot of people who won't use the car for its intended purpose. With that being said, I believe this will be a temporary achievement for Dodge. It will be cool for a little bit, but not many people will be able to afford the MSRP not to mention the markups that will probably come along with. Plus not many people drag their cars so while the idea of this car is badass on the surface, it truly is a niche car. After a while reality will set in that the Hemi's are still going away.
I don’t know. The Demon is a one trick pony and it *NEEDS* a prepped surface to even launch half as good as anything else. I’m a mopar guy but I don’t know. I think they would have been better off just offering the hellcats in an AWD configuration rather than a Demon 170
My thoughts exactly. Almost nobody is going to hit remotely close to these numbers even on a track. They should have had to foresight to realize an AWD option would have made a far better performance impact.

If you're buying an ICE car in 2023 you're not buying it to outrun an EV, you're doing it because you enjoy the art of driving.
It kind of makes me feel sad but happy that so many people want to drive my mustang but they can't because it is a manual. I feel so special for knowing something that is supposed to be standard.

Dodge gets the bragging rights on a race track with a prepped surface. Real world results are gonna be much different. Throttle House done a video of the Demon against the c8 z06 and the z06 won every race
It's demon 170 not normal demon so we don't know till we get the videos
I was waiting for all wheel drive and stamped metal fender flares on Hellcats. Maybe when they have to bring it back on another platform.

A little history Don Garlits " BIG DADDY" ran a 426 hemi quarter mile in 7.78 seconds at 201.34 years ago. Hemi had a long track record even before the current Hemis that we gave today.
Those were REAL HEMI HEADS & totally different motor today. They just used the name to sell it.

You are so right, no one will drive that 170 as it was intended too. So I’m guessing it will only be you and I that will be doing that when our 170’s come. A true waste of engineering if these other buyers don’t use the car what it is engineered and bread to do. We won’t be disappointing Dodge at least.

not really so much of a "risk" every single Demon 170 is already sold and they arent making very many

90% of the time the 170 will be on the 9's, probably 9.2-9.5. Then you have the 10% that will be in the 8.9-9.19. Great DA and fantastic prep will be key
add the dealer markups and speculators who want to flip the cars , soon as they are devleverd they will be all over ebay motors and at auction , to me having my name on top of the window sticker and being the orig owner priceless but most will go into private collections for speculation. , have to see if all 3000 get built

The plaid isn't worth going after though. It does everything for you, takes all skill out of the racing experience all boring.
It's just an appliance on wheels that needs to be plugged in. I'll never see the Tesla as anything but that.

Ive been a chavy fan since my 1st days of the 70s.
I really like my LS peoweplant. I know of several people that have over 300k and never had the heads off.
The Camaro is ok looking but to me ut never captured the 60s design. Go figure when you hire a Korean to design an American muscle car.

They can all handle...it's a purpose built car for drag racing but you can get it to handle if you put in parts for it ........the Camero is built for the consumer who has everyday duty for it if you want it just for drag racing then go buy the copo Camero for $130,000+ and no Vin and can't be put on the street....same with mustang only Ford doesn't build a purpose built mustang in any version of their car......plus dodge keeps all of their stuff " in house" meaning they don't send it to Carroll Shelby (Ford) for engine build/HP and (GM) sends to lingenfelter for their engines and HP gains.

Regarding Ford. Ford performance is building the 2024 IMSA Dark Horse GT3 and GT4 Mustang. A least two Porsche world GT3 champions are moving to the new Dark Horse GT3. Based on the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, the GT3 version is a factory-backed race car. Ford performance and Multimatic are building a new Dark Horse GTD Supercar using a new dry sump 5 2 Cid racing engine with over 800 supercharged horsepower. Fiberglass body panels and automatic aero for lower the car and changing spoiler angles at high speeds. A new racing 8 speed Transaxle DCT.
Ford performance has also entered Formula One starting in 2026. They will be building engines for the Red Bull Team.
Ford performance also provides engine and performance technology to their Nascar race teams.
Ford performance will be reintroducing the GT500. Shelby didn't build the most recent GT500 or the 2026 model. Ford pays Shelby America for the use of their name. The car is built in a Ford manufacturing plant with the engine built in another Ford plant. The new GT500 may be a Dark Horse GT500 or Cobra.
I don't know where you obtained your information, but your completely wrong. Ford builds their own performance cars and engines and will continue building V8 engines for several more years. Name a racing series Stellantis participates. If you say NHRA. Other than approving funny car bodies. All the Hemi engines are custom blocks. They are good at blowing up engines while testing the Demon 170. Stellantis is ending the Hemi. Get over it. I watched and heard the Hurricane Challenger make a pass in Detroit. Embarrassing. If Dodge is to survive. It's going to be from low performance vehicles including the Dodge Ram TRX without a Hemi and their proposed EVs. This is from a guy that drives a Hemi Mopar. Stellantis is destroying the Dodge and Chrysler divisions. Ford is building some badass vehicles. Even Hennessy just released their new Dark Horse H850 With 850 supercharged horsepower.
How do the redeye widebodys compete.

Dodge definitely made history with this move, definitely made us all Dodge enthusiasts proud once again and we'll always be grateful and proud of them for this. Though times are coming and I'm glad we had this creation happen right before the end of an Era. I hope I can keep my Challenger Hellcat forever and teach my kids how to drive in it one day, if gasoline is even a thing at that point

I expect to see a lot of runs from this car. I do know as you all do many factors determine 0-60 and quarter mile times. As all of the stats are done under perfect or nearly perfect DA and prepped tracks. So don’t expect under 2 second 0-60 consistently or the stated quarter mile times consistently. The Plaid will still take it most of the time because like you said it is very consistent.
I just saw one run for the first time at wild horse pass on Friday night, went 9.8 at 139 in 3500' of DA, they ran it against a 2018 Demon as well and that went 129, forgot ET on the 2018 Demon though.

Markups will be Insane you can be sure of that. I bet most will be 25% or more, and that is if you can even get one at all.
If it doesn't have a V8 and a manual transmission it is NOT a muscle car, and in Dodge's case that V8 had better be a HEMI. I can't afford the INSANE mark ups they are putting on the last real cars they are making so I am so glad I kept my 2016. I love what they used to make and stand for but as the future goes on they are completely dead to me unless they come back to their senses and start making what we want from them again.

Yeah the street takeovers, the donuts, police chases, the most coveted by professional auto thieves, the high MSRP’s, not to mention the dealers markups, making them barely affordable if even at all, ahh yes! and then there’s the police impound lots, and finally the salvage yard. I haven’t seen that.. Dodge states it will do 215 .. it will do more than 149 in the quarter alone

@@RacerX9 I’ve seen the published numbers Vegas video. Idk if there was unlocked, it’s BS or if it is limited but with acceleration cuts off at 149 but is still accelerating. Back in the Day I had a beretta GT that’s limiter was 116 but on hard acceleration would hit 119 on the digital speedo.
It won't be limited in Drag Mode; if at all. The people he got that information from at Dodge Garage have been misinformed about things in the past.

It’s all relative .. if you consider that a 100k Dodge is faster than a 3 million dollar Bugatti in the quarter mile

Price out building a engine and transmission, brakes and suspension, super charger cooling system using the best parts and let me know what you get for a price....then price a fully loaded charger and then add labor to put car together for misc parts and hardware....oh and ALL hellcat/demon engines are Dyno ran for 45 mins before they are put into the body on assembly lines.

Arent you comparing the e.t's of the other exotics on their stock tires without any extra fueling aids, wheres the demon needs ethenol, drag slicks and drag prepped front suspension settings? Put slicks on those other cars and they will equal or beat the demon e.ts plus outclass it in everyother performance metric? Just having a 3/10 to 5/10 advantage in e.t prepped and in perfect conditions really doesnt put it above those other cars as far as performance,especially if you give them the same straightline prep, with an ethenol tune sand slicks, they would go faster than the stock as delivered e.ts your comparing to the demon. The demon doesn't have to beat any of the cars you mentioned as it is a muscle car, and already achieved its greatest muscle car status.
As cool as these cars are. 70K+ hellcats, Demons, 1320's etc were the tipping point toward failure for Dodge and to be honest Stellantis. As soon as their sales strategy became whaling they put themselves on a bad road.
To be honest all the cars like both Demons should have just been charity cars. Wouldve generated some great PR, and been put to better use, while allowing Dodge to sell/write off a premium.

Realest statement. 90% of these cars will sit in someones garage. I am not complaining about the price. There is so much money in dodge testing and replacing and testing and replacing that needs to be recouped. And for a car that cost in the low 100s it puts the million boys down. Like you can get bullied by ANYONE for 120k. Shit you can bully just about everyone. Because more of those 2.5mil cars are hidden in those same garages.
