Chris Davis went 0 for 54. It was the longest hitless streak in MLB history. The Baltimore Orioles slugger reached absolute rock bottom in an unforgiving sport, and the Chris Davis streak was an outcome. 0-54. It boggles the mind.
But there is a lesson to learned here. First and foremost, it deals with Statcast and expected batting average. Even though Chris Davis did in fact go 0 for 54, everything isn't quite as it seems. Statcast reveals just how unlucky he was. We'll also talk about the Shift, and how it relates to Davis's struggles. What happened to Chris Davis? You may ask. I'll do my best to answer.
In this episode of Baseball Bits, a Foolish Baseball production, I'll also talk about the good aspects of this unique streak. Even though he went through the worst slump in MLB history, he had the security of the Chris Davis contract. The Orioles themselves weren't competitive. And Davis handled the whole thing with class and poise. It really is a one in a million life lesson, and I intend to showcase that.

You gotta love that one little gesture Davis made when he finally broke that 0-54 streak. Cracking a smile and asking for the ball. Even he was able to find joy in his own hardships.

Can you do a video on Frank Thomas in 1994? He was on pace to have over 150 walks, 150 runs, 200 hits, and 50 home runs. He was having a slugging percentage and an OPS not seen since Ted Williams when the season ended. He also missed a chance at having a 50 double 50 home run season, winning a Triple Crown, and winning a World Series. I think it’s a cool idea because no one talks about it. They only really talk about Tony Gwynn and the Expos (though those would be great videos too if you want to do either of those).

Just another reason why contact hitting is so important. If you're going to hit up, it better go out of the park. Hit down and get balls in play, you'll get more bases. The most important skill a batter can have is to be able to hit down with control

Having watched this streak as it was happening, it unfortunately didn't even feel all that different to having Chris Davis in the lineup normally had been feeling for the year or so leading up to it. The only difference was he didn't surprise you and actually get a hit every now and then anymore. It's a shame that his career is ending on such a dour note, because he has done good for the team and the community, but I'd be lying if I said I've missed him being there this year.

There was 1 out with a guy on 2nd, even if Davis made an out there was a chance he'd advance the runner to third. Then if the next guy up gets a hit its a guaranteed run. The increased chance of a double play isn't worth it.

I was at the game where he broke his streak. I've never heard Fenway erupt quite like that. Sounded like we just won the World Series, not an opposing player getting a single. A-Rod's return to Fenway after his roid suspension, and a random brawl that Papi started (also against the Orioles) are the only two other games I can recall with a similar visceral reaction.

8 year olds take Adderall for adhd. I seriously doubt he had adhd and needed Adderall. I know what kind of advantage that kind of drug gives a person in baseball. I've witnessed it personally. Seeing how bad he was without it tells me all I need to know. He used it as a legal advantage since it was prescribed to him and he could get a waiver for it. Just like kids in college. Chris Davis should send a portion of his check to Nelson Cruz every year. The Baltimore Orioles did not want to give Nelson Cruz a fourth year on his contract so he went to Seattle and exploded and when Chris Davis time came up they did not want to lose another home run champion and have him go somewhere and do the same thing. They bid against themselves when nobody else in baseball was offerering him a contract anywhere near that and when it was time to pay Manny Machado they didn't have the money. So in point they did not pay Nelson Cruz they could not play Manny Machado and they overpaid for Chris Davis that's the reason why the Orioles were such a crappy team for so long
