Innovative: This is a factual statement of the album itself. The only reason you would cite this as a bad thing is because you don’t want change and would rather listen to the same basic pop song formula over and over again.
Spoken word: The poem at the end of the songs on TPAB serve to describe the narrative and further along the story and themes of the album. But I understand that as a swifty you wouldn’t know what those mean.
And that whole things about it being a “woman artist” and that’s why we don’t like her is bullshit too. Fuck I could go on whole ass rants about how good some women are at music, one of the easiest to do this for would be Lauryn Hill. @@quesodebrooklynI agree, but I think technically 1989 was released first before E.MO.TION, though just months apart, so neither artist is jumping on each other. Besides, neither Carly nor Taylor started that trend. But in terms of the "modern 80's sound", I would give it to Carly. Her E.MO.TION album just understands the era more and Carly obviously understands it either. That album is the best incarnation of that sound in the 2010's. Carly and that album was influential till this day.
I don't think Taylor did that with 1989 because in the first place there's nothing 80's about that album. It's just a modern pop album (and by modern I mean 2014/2015 sound). It wasn't as successful because it didn't really commit to the 80's sound. It has a couple of synths on some songs but thats about it.
