Hello from france. I really love your vidéo I'm training hard to skipping and begin to have some result : it's so satisfaying to skip lurres under trees. I still have a lot to learn but watching you help me.
What you said about focusing on practicing a technique rather than catching fish is very true. I am a bait fisho but I have been trying to get into soft plastics fishing so a week ago I decided I was gonna go out off the Alex heads rocks and just throw lures for a few hours and just work out Walmart was going on, eventually somthing clicked and every day I went down I got a decent amount of quality fish and it is so rewarding! Awesome stuff🤙🤙😂!
I've only recently started watching your videos on skip casting and on my first outing yesterday caught 2 Jack's in the high thirties and dropped a better one thanks to your videos.
Awesome advice as always John! You make it look so easy.. I'm working on my skip casting from the kayak..plenty of bird nests and foul language, but getting there!
John, I love your videos and I’m a big fan. I think you should organise a practical skip casting lesson (paid, of course) so you can teach us how to set up our gear and help us with issues. We can do it of a sandy bank. If you ever organise one, count me in. Cheers!
Hello fisher friend. I'm writing from Portugal. You can inform which fishing rod you are using (make, model, size, or everything). Thanks. Another excellent video. Congratulations.
You’ve literally been my inspiration for this John if it wasn’t for you I’d still be slogging nothing but pontoons am yet to crack one out of the mangroves yet tho what sort of retrieve is it literally just cast in the burn straight out?
Hey Cam. You can slow it down a bit compared to pontoons if you’re not getting any interest. I tend to start slow and ramp up the speed whilst they’re still showing interest and see how hard they’re gonna go to hit it. Try and get that tail paddling as soon as the lure finishes its trip into the snag and if you run out past a log, drop it down as it leaves the end of it. Sometimes the Jack will smack it on the drop right there. Keep at it mate and keep heading further up the systems into the heavy and tight stuff ;)
Hi Jon, What was the brand of braid you use. I am an avid Power Pro user I love it but if there is something for skip casting then I would like to try it.
@@mylurebox Thanks, I have the Shimano K 200 and the Bass Raider so I am keen to learn the skill using the baitcaster for skipping. I will look at both those braids
Hello John big fan, I have used your videos to get decent at skip casting with spinning gear, I'm working on getting better with a bait caster. Can you do a video on proper thumb control. How much pressure to use? Anything you can think off as far as exercises? Skip casting is the only time I consistently get backlashes when using a bait caster.
Hi Ricardo. Thanks for your message ;) I’ll try and put something together in the coming months as I do more. Basic 120degree pirouettes without releasing the lure but feeling and watching the lure fly just above the surface before a release would be worth doing. Also trying to cast low and direct even with a hard body at snags to start getting a lower trajectory of cast might help. The thumb is basically always feathering the spool for Control as the lure flies into the snag. Then as the lure slows, a rod tip lift almost like a follow through in golf or tennis etc helps to get any overrun line away from the spool. I’d start with bigger plastics then work on downsizing. Hope that helps mate :)
Where is the release point 6 o'clock? What should the lure enter the water line 4 ft in front etc.? Mine are too close and the lure bounces to high and bird nest.
Hi Shane, I’m really Happy with it to this point. Drag and corrosion resistance 👌 casting I’m happy with but I haven’t distance tested a DC to compare. I’ve only played with the DCs in the tight cover. The noise on DCs during casting I’m not overly keen on... just a personal thing but they are impressive for what they’re designed to do that’s for sure.
Hay jony I was talking to a guy in Noosa he said that he knows you because he was going to build you some rods he also said that he loves to take people out.the mans name was dean and he said that you would love to take people fishing. My name is perry and I am A keen as fisherman and I have been a subscriber to your channel since you started and have always been the first onto the videos mate! Love the videos to
So, as depths of your edges, i realise it will change from spot to spot, but say that location u r in there, is that a reasonably shallow or deep edge and the shadows u r skipping into? Like less than a meter or more?

Cheers Jake. It’s made a world of difference to my skill set I reckon. Game changer and takes the edge off trying to get fish all the time...
Fantastic video! Thank you for taking the time to explain this process.

A Masterclass so good, plenty of great info. Nice work
Cheers mate :)

Hahahaa. I tend to feed it the same some days mate. Plenty of birdies and mangroves on the way to good skips :)

Its an Australian model of Shimano called a Bass Raider
Love to get into this John, could you show how to use a spinning outfit to start off.

@@mylurebox cheers John I’ll try slow it down a bit I get more anxious everytime I go out now cause I think it’s the session that it’s gonna happen 😂
Yes johnnyyy how good bruz!
Another great video mate
Cheers Brad :) hope
You’re getting a few cracks at it over summer mate
What do you count as a session an how many you up too this year John? Also what’s ya biggest ya recon?
Hi Jon,
What was the brand of braid you use. I am an avid Power Pro user I love it but if there is something for skip casting then I would like to try it.
Hi mate. I use Bionic Braid cause it’s Rod Harrison’s. Also like Sunline Castaway. Powerpro would be a pic at 20-30 for skipping too I reckon

@@mylurebox Cool I'll give that a try. Thanks and keep the great videos coming :)
Casting platform height from the water a huge issue with this style of cast?
Where is the release point 6 o'clock? What should the lure enter the water line 4 ft in front etc.? Mine are too close and the lure bounces to high and bird nest.
How are you finding the concept reel
Mine doesn't cast as far as the curado dc

Gday Jai. I’ll have to do that. I’ve got some stuff in here from memory .. but I’ll do one for sure. ruclips.net/video/pmkShvEpndY/видео.html

What poundage of leader did you use?20lb braid + leader??
20lb Nash :)

Yeah mate I’d say it’s around 1/2 to a metre deep ;)
Looks heaps fun..still trying know it will come
You have the same rode as me
🤜🤛. cheers.
Acctually you gave a lot of tips about how to catch fish with skip casting, but you didnt showed the skiping techiniques ...
Hi mate. I’ve got a few more videos on the technique. This is a great starting point. ruclips.net/video/_3lftF03_Zw/видео.html
