    baitcasters are awesome but bfs is even better, coming from a fly fishing guy most of my life and when I discovered bfs a few years ago I fell in love

    Thanks for the video bro. Its awesome. My question is does your rod effect your casting distance+ lure weight limit?

    • @TheHunterFisher
      @TheHunterFisher  Год назад

      Yes because it’s best to use the rating on your rod to determine what lures will cast best.

      I believe casting distance as it relates to the rod is determined by whether the rod loads or not. The weight rating on the rod is a descriptor of what weight range loads the road tip effectively. That is to say above that range, the tip will over-load, you may even damage the rod.
      Below that range, the tip will under-load, or not effectively load at all, likely producing a backlash and severely hindering cast distance.
      You do have a little bit of leeway concerning the rod weight range, however. The length of line extended beyond the tip of the rod (between the rod tip and lure) will, to some degree, alter the weight experienced by the rod tip when it is swinging through a cast.
      The closer to the rod tip the lure is, the more balanced the rod will be under a swing, reducing load weight experienced on the rod tip.
      The further the weight of the lure is from the rod tip, the more unbalanced the rod will be under swing, increasing the weight experienced by the rod tip, there for increasing the load on the rod tip and providing greater force to the lure/weight at the end of the line that is being thrown.

    How long of a leader do you use? Want to try braid with a mono leader. Probably 8 + 6 like you. My concern is wouldn't the knot slow down the cast as It goes through the guides?
    Have a zephyr with 4 lb mono now.

      If you use the right knot it won’t be an issue. I only use the FG knot and don’t have any issues.

    I have two Quantum smoke S3 baitcaster with the brake nob on the outside. 0 to 16, it's not in even numbers on the dial . 0,2,5,8,11,14,16. It has little marks for the rest of the numbers. I always keep it at 8. I can cast very lite lures, I always get a bird nest in my line. I tried different setting. I still get a mess. I have Sufix siege mono 10lbs and 14lbs on my other reel. Should I drop down to 8lb line for lite Iures

      Yeah id consider different, id say 15-20lb braid could do what you want. I’m not really super familiar with that reel though but I do know it’s not meant for the real light stuff. You’re gonna be limited to throwing wacky rigs, weightless flukes and others stuff. Don’t be afraid to turn the brakes up within reason, that’s what they’re there for.

      @TheHunterFisher The reel is a Kevin VanDam , KVD. It a left hand crank. 7.3 gear I have casted everything from Texas rig to top water baits. Some techniques I can't do from the riverbank here in Fredericton New Brunswick Canada. The river is tidal water. When the tide is out on the Bay of Fundy the river has a stronger current compared to high tide with a slower current. I try to fish during high tide with a slower current. We been getting a lot of rain here every other day, sometimes it will rain for 3 to 4 days straight. Rivers and lakes are higher than last year at this time of year. Have a great day

    Does the button need to be depressed when you wiggle the spool or does it not matter?

    Hello, I have a quick question for anyone who can help me. I know my setup is suboptimal for what I was doing but it was the only setup I had at my disposal. I had a Daiwa Alphas Air TW with a Phenix classic BFS rod rated down to 3/32 ounce and a tiny jig probably around 1/16 or maybe a little less. I know this is below the recommended weight but the pond only had small baitfish and I didn’t have proper equipment. I set up my feel like in this video but I had backlash after backlash and couldn’t cast further than 5 feet. Could the breaking have been too high and caused the backlashes or is it just not possible to cast this light on my rod?

    • @TheHunterFisher
      @TheHunterFisher  Год назад

      I’d recommend ensuring that your spool tension is set appropriately and start out with much higher braking then slowly work down to a comfortable setting.

    Never call yourself the backlash King’s I went through three spools of 3000 yards Three sport remember that getting the bait caster that I bought from you at bass pro shop is the pro qualifier two rod and reel combo and I’m still getting backlashes on it

      It's nothing to write home about but the Kastking Zephyr is pretty cheap and perfectly fine for 1/8 oz and ok at 1/16th.
