Like he said, would recommend getting something thats inexpensive, and a decent weight on the end and go to a local park where you can practice. String it with some mono and tinker around. Worst case is you birdnest it so bad you have to cut it off. Its just mono, just make sure you clean up your mess.

    • @bassnazi4713

Yep, just start off using heavier lures that cast good and work your way down. Even after getting the hang most still use spinning for super light stuff.

Great video. I used to keep messing with both the tension and brakes at the same time and just confused myself. Fool with one at a time is the way to go. It’s the Japanese gourmet fish prep method that prevents ‘fishy” tasting fish.

Nice video man. Amazing the difference in settings. I bought a abu garcia black max this year for my first baitcaster. I got the hang of it fairly quick. I usually keep it in the middle setting area. I only use it for my heavier lures though. I can usually get away with not thumbing the spool until eight before it hits the water. But heavier lures are alot easier to throw on baitcasters

First time I used a baitcaster I didn’t know what the settings did nor know to I have to hold my thumb on the spool. First cast, you should’ve seen the backlash!

Never used a baitcaster, but I just got one, so going to have to learn. Thanks for the good info; now if I can learn how to use my thumb....

Impressive distance! i have a couple of baitcasters but i almost never use them. i always gravitate to my light tackle spinning rod. im not that great a caster so thats probably why lol.
