You're 100% correct on what your comment said this is the best in most in-depth casting video that I have seen as well. I really like the way this guy explains things.
I'm a 53 yr. old man who has used spinning gear my entire life. Because of your videos, I decided it was time I learned how to use a baitcaster. I bought 5 inexpensive combos, went outside and began following your instructions. That was 8 months ago now and I must say that I absolutely love baitcasters. Thanks for the help
I was in the same situation you were. Fished all my life using spinning reels. A friend suggested trying a bait caster. Bought a good one, watched some videos, then took it out with me. Conclusion: way too many backlashes. Kept using it that season but then switched back to my spinning reels. I won't ever go to a bait caster again, not even as a back-up.
Just got my Quantum Pulse Bait caster today. My friend bought me for my birthday. Never was good at them. So my friend got me to try again! So I am watching how to set this thing up. Will try a practice before really fishing. Fall starts tomorrow. Wish me luck! SHAWN
Hey, DEBO What Medium Heavy Bait casting rod would you recommend. For my Quantum Pulse Bait caster. How about a Bait casting Ugly Stick medium heavy? SHAWN
Bought my first bait caster, have gotten 4 ungodly bird’s nests. Was about to thrown in the towel til I saw this video. Thanks so much, you got a new subscriber!!
Hey, DeBo's! SHAWN here. Went out today and fished my friend's pond behind his house. Put my new Bait caster reel and ugly stick in to action. I bought a Spinning ugly stick and spinning reel combo at Wal-Mart for $36.00 for the whole combo. My friend bought me a Quantum Pulse Bait caster reel. Put it on the Spinning ugly stick rod 6'6 2 piece. I read that you can put a Bait caster reel on a spinning rod but not the other way around. Man, I am telling you after setting up the reel the way you told us too. It casted like butter! We got a bird nest a couple of on purpose just to learn how to get them undone. Worked every time. Caught 10 bass too. Please keep teaching us the way you fish. You got it down pat. The only thing is slow down a little when talking and teaching. I am 59 years old. Have a hard time keeping up. Sometimes. I have changed my rod, reel, knots and the way I have fished for years. It's been great fun this summer. Still going to fish into the late fall. Thanks again. See ya at the lakes. Shawn
My dad just bought two baitcasters for us to use and we haven't fished before so this is a little overwhelming, but you did a great job going through and explaining everything thoroughly. You earned a subscription!!
Another huge tip. If you are going to get your first Bait caster, and you use a spinning reel. If you wind that spinner with your left hand then get a left handle bait caster. It isn't a left handed reel. I am right handed and want my strong arm on the rod. Plus you will have to change hands in the middle of the cast to get your weak hand back on the rod. A guy told me this when I was buying my first reel years ago. Best damn tip I ever got.
I like to cast with my right and reel with my right. Guess I'm doomed for having to switch every cast. Do people tend to switch and try left hand when switching from spinning to baitcaster?
@@oxyfide It really is a personal preference but I was just tip off to this in the very beginning. Notice how many pro's are throwing right and reeling left. But you can catchum either way. I just am so glad to have started left reeling at the very first. It would be harder to switch now for sure.
Man,dude I genuinely don't understand how you don't have a couple Million subscribers.Especially with some of the hacks I've seen on RUclips claiming to be Fishing Experts. You're so informative and you explain stuff in such a way that truly Pros and Beginners can gain knowledge from your videos.Seriously bro thanks and keep up the great work!!!
Thank you very much man, that means a lot. Sorry I missed your comment. This is why I don't. Just want to help folks out and have a good time doing so. Have a good Thanksgiving man!
Ive been bass fishing for 55 years, even owned a Marina on Lake Sam Rayburn in east TX. I've caught bass up to 12 pounds but I've always used a spinner reel because I just never understood, nor could I master the baitcaster, until watching this video. I just bought a Kastking Stealth and I am headed to the lake to try out everything you just taught. But for the first time I understand the how and why and now with practice I can finally get it down. Thanks for helping out even us old timers... this was an excellent informative video.
This is so much more complex than the 40-year-old Johnson reel I've used since childhood. With that, hold the thumb button, do a typical overhand cast, release thumb button outright at apex of cast. Done. Never had backlash on that type of reel in all 30 years I've used it. Only reason I bought one of these newfangled sci-fi reels is that's all they're selling for under $100 these days. I tried casting like I'd done for 30 years, and it took a nose dive at about 30 feet and looked like a box full of Christmas lights. Gotta say, I was pissed, took it back, and they told me everything I knew about casting doesn't apply to this kind of reel. They kept calling it a "bait caster," which makes no sense because who fishes with a rod and no bait? Anyway, the video was helpful. Guess I'm back to beginner angler until I get down the fine motor movements needed for these reels... magnets and carbon fiber in a fishing reel... seriously, this is like some sci-fi shit.
Yeah it’s tough to get used to just practice really is all I can tell you and when your lure hits the water stop the spool with your thumb this will 100% stop birds nest or backlash hope this helps!
Appreciate your instruction. I'm an old guy and fish a lot. But not very good at it. (So the wife says). You give the best info, in the fewest words, as fast as humanly possible, and you obviously have fun doing it. I appreciate the non-Hollywood style. I've seen lots of backlash videos. No thumb, lots of thumb, curse out the left side of your mouth, only the fg knot will cure backlash, - you name it. You've given the best all-round instruction on how to avoid backlash. Don't change your style - and great editing as well.
Hahaha I appreciate that a LOT! The only thing that cures backlash is practice. Put the time in and I'm confident anyone can operate one. Greatly appreciate you watching and taking time to comment. I do have a lot of fun doing this and comments like this make it all worthwhile! P.S. Sounds like you need to challenge your wife to a fish off....loser does all house work for a week!
I watched about 10 videos trying to figure out why I would have backlash at the beginning of my cast and none of them explained it. Found your Instagram and 6 mins in, got it under control. Good information and not beating around the bush
Major thumbs up, after watching this video I was able to adjust my baitcaster in minutes and completely stop the major backlashes!! Amazing improvement! While fishing, I had a few minor backlashes, but was able to figure out what was causing it and adjust on the fly. All backlashes were able to be removed in a couple of seconds. Saved video to favorites in case I need refresher tips. Thanks a ton for posting this.
I never touched a Caster until watching your videos and being a complete NEWB I always start with everything turned all the way up. Then back off the tention knob, then outside brakes and inside brakes. In the back yard of course. That way come fishing day I’m good to go!! Thanks debo!! 15# flourokote too
Man, I can't tell you how much I needed this. 2 years of trying to fishing with a Baitcaster reel and I haven't caught a fish. I was so frustrated with the bird nesting and had to carry a spinning reel with me for backup. I am inspired to pick my baitcaster back up and practice proper technique. Thanks again brother!
Good instructional series. One thing I would like to share is over spooling a reel will add to the backlash dilemma, and reduce casting distance and keep a person's head shaking wondering what is going on ? Especially when you tried every setting on a reel. So pay attention to how much line you put on a reel. I had an experience where I didn't realize I over spooled a reel just a tad too much with 50lb braid, and the line on the spool would rub against the reel seat unbeknownst to me. When I would cast, it would immediately backlash after only casting out about 20 feet. As soon as I realized this issue and took some line off, everything went a smooth as could be. Just my .02 cents.
Very true! I covered this in my spooling a baitcaster video but for anybody that missed that video...this man is proof that it happens. Thanks for sharing and helping our feeshin friends!
You've gotten a lot of well deserved compliments...you really nailed it. I'm old enough to remember starting with level wind reels and black dacron line! I was a kid watching early 70s TV fishing shows and taking my dads old tackle (level wind reels with dacron line!) And trying to emulate what I saw. My thumb got very educated! No magnetic brakes, no spool tensioner...lol. I still use reels old Abu reels on some of my rods with no brakes...some from the 80s, but the new advanced ones are nice for sure. Really great video. Congrats again.
I took a 22 year hiatus from fishing and was pretty solid with baitcasters before I quit. Now I've got a new reel in the mail and needed a little overview which I greatly appreciate - thank you!
I’m a multi-stroke survivor wanting to get back into fishing. Strokes took all my memories. Having to learn everything all over again. I’ve seen several videos. None of which were helpful. I’ve gotten 5:43 into the video paused it rolled my wheelchair out got my real. Did everything you said. Stayed out for an hour casting with no problems at all. Went and got my fishing license. Going camping tomorrow for a week and will fish everyday. Thank you for giving me my fishing life back.
I honestly think centrifugal brakes are better but if you are new and really worried get yourself a bass pro qualifier. That reel can teach you to become proficient in both, one or the other, and keep practicing with feathering your spool. When I first started I freaking hated magnetic brakes. But that's because I didn't understand what it was doing. An understanding for how your equipment works goes a long way.
My first baitcaster was a plastic reel using twine (7 yo in Missouri in the 1950's ). Backlashes with twine are awesome. After finding spinning, swore I'd never use a baitcaster reel again. Two grandsons convinced me to try baitcaster. Major issues until I watched your video. Now able to consistently cast without backlash. Thanks
Central Fugal... I like it! Good video, very informative. The only bait caster I ever owned was a salt water Penn. But it only had a drag setting and the reel backlash was all thumb control. I've been kicking around getting a bait caster for fresh water. You've helped me decide. Thanks!
I fish mostly salt water but wanted to try Bass fishing so I got a baitcaster. I have watched A LOT of videos but yours is by far the easiest to understand and most comprehensive. Thanks and keep up the good work.
I just bought my first bait caster rod and reel today. I lined it up and practiced. And yes major backlash where I had to cut half the line off. I searched for videos to help me understand more. I came across your video and you were very helpful and comedic at explaining the workings. I think the comedic parts made it more interesting to watch. That you so much. Plan on watching the rest of your videos to help me with learning to use a bait caster. Thanks again
Spent a couple hours out with my new baitcaster. Through trial and error, focusing on clean form, playing with the reel tension and drag, and thumbing it different amounts at different times, I was just starting to get the hang of it. I went from a backlash one every cast, to every other, to every few. I even managed to catch a nice, chunky bass with it. After your vid, I completely understand what I was doing wrong, what I was doing right, and how to fix what's still wrong. Thanks a lot!
Funny the video got recommend a day after I struggled with my first ever baitcaster. Lost a bunch of line because I took a pair of scissors to the mess I made and try again. I didn't catch a thing all day but at least I figured the sistem out. Thanks for the video.
Im usually not one for comments but this video deserves a thumbs up. Most videos on this subject go through the steps to set up but no understanding of troubleshooting issues. Especially adding the factor of distance and how it relates to the settings. Add the slightly fast talking and you have a perfect video. Great work!
I've been Baitcasting for 2 years in the beginning I had Mono but Switched to Braid even on my Spinner But I could Never get my Magnets right or Spool tension so I use my thumb for both Haha It just became a habit because I like cast far and with no tension is the only way on my Cheap ass Shakephere Agility.
Thank you so much!!!! As a recently retired Audio/Video Production teacher I really appreciated 1) Finally learning how to understand my baitcast reel and the principles in play, and 2) Finally, someone who uses a quick dissolve when cutting between shots from the same angle. I've gotten so used to everyone just cutting out their extra footage/miscues and coming right back into the same shot, but it's often rather jarring to someone who is an editor and I so appreciated the smoothness of the technique that I teach and use. Heading over to Part 3 next, though I've had so many backlashes, I'm wondering if there's anything left for me to discover in this one. LOL
This is the best breakdown and description of what part of the cast the magnet brakes helps and what part of the cast the centrifugal brakes helps. Good stuff debo
Hey Debo! I just picked up my first baitcaster, a cheapie Bass Pro Shops combo, and I was a bit nervous. Your video was a huge help. I followed your instructions and practiced at my usual spot for about 2 hours, and I only had one very minor backlash. Practiced the side, roll, and overhead casts with no issues. Thanks again, and cheers!
At 64 I just picked up my first bait caster rod and reel. I'm very glad I found your channel. I love the way you explain everything, Debo you're a very god communicator. Cheers keep posting videos!
Excellent instructional!! Maybe it's a Hell Mary!, instead of HailMary bomb cast...ha. How many bad Amazon reviews get posted on reels because of these anglers, you wonder. Especially when you have the reel & know better. Thanks for the tip on my new Piscifun Phantom centrifugal setting. It casts REALLY smooth and far. You have to be sure not to overspool w/ line tho...not even 1/16 or it doesn't adjust at all. The right (perfect) amount & amazing. One thing I know on pulling out birdnests is keep all the tangles picked out & loose. Get 'em tight and ur done.
About a year ago I tried picking up a bait caster and watched RUclips videos to get a better understanding of why I was getting so many back lashes but no one explained it this well and I am definitely thinking about picking it back up
Another great tutorial. Can't wait for #3 that's my trouble area lol. Will pass these on to a few friends that are learning on baitcasters these will help them. Keep it up bud 👍👍👍👍
Debo you rock. I know this video is three years old but I just got a new baitcaster for Christmas so I’m back to trying to learn again even though I think I’m ok with a baitcaster. Keep up what your doing, just finished your plastics mould video the other day and appreciate videos today as much as your old ones
You’ve earned another subscriber here. Made me laugh when you mentioned the Hail Mary and the axe chop because that’s what I constantly do with the baitcaster hahah. Great video man, thanks for the help.
Thanks for this video. I've seen many to learn how to use my 1st baitcaster and this video just clicked with me having a great balance of explanation and examples.
I have been contemplating getting a bait caster your videos have finally made me make the jump, now I just need to make the trek out and look for it, just so many to choose from.
Wow, 7.5...which state was that in? I live in PA and the bass are a lot smaller here than when I grew up in Texas....PB there was a 5 1/2 pounder and that baby was a TOAD....
I caught a 7 in West Texas and my biggest was South Mississippi, 9lbs 2 ozs. Still trying to get over the 10lb mark! When I do, I’ll measure and take pictures and release! Fiberglass replica and big bass still alive for someone else to enjoy!
@@MrJayt0625 im in pa an seen one bass that looked much bigger than my pb. tried a frog an all the bass that hit it looked over 3lbs. One was huge looked 7+ lbs.
I've been fishing baitcasters since I was 10 years old and got a Shimano Bantam for Christmas, that was 42 years ago. Although your video didn't teach me anything I watched it because I like to see other peoples perspectives on things like this. I must say, you did an AMAZING job of explaining all the physics, principals and reasons for settings. I am certain you turned many baitcaster nightmares into baitcaster dreams with this tutorial and for that I appreciate it. Excellent work my friend!
New Break in today for my new bait caster, nothing fancy just a cheapo abu black max. Haven't thrown one in about 20 years thank you DEBO for the refresher. I think you saved me a bunch of headache's this afternoon.
Best information I've found for a beginner. Have been searching for a video to learn the basics and I was able to dial in my reel in 10 minutes. Thank you
Thank you for the great video! I just bought a baitcaster reel today and I'm determned to learn it how to use it. This is the third video I've just watched and i think it is the most informative. No need to look for another video.
I keep the settings the same as when I pitch and flip as I do casting. Spool tension so there is only a TINY bit of side to side play. I adjust the brakes so I can cast comfortably.
I love that people make videos to help people its awesome when we have so many in the fishing community to help each other. That being said just get out there guys. You're gonna get a rats nest backlash no matter what and when you do guess what? You'll learn how to dig it out and get rid of it. Its not fun but a necessity. You'll also learn how it happened and hopefully just not repeat it. I think a lot of people are still intimidated and shouldn't be, a rats nest is not gonna hurt you and neither is learning so just go do it!
Thanks man. I agree. People waste too much time bickering and not enough time educating. I'm no pro but I'm happy to share what I know. Thanks for watching man 👊
Went fishing today. Debo' s! Caught to big Bass on the new rod and reel combo. 4 pounder then a 5 pounder. Back to back casts. The 5 pounder is my PB. Used a Green Pumpkin Senko Texas rigged. The Ugly Stick medium heavy. Has a power tip and when the Bass hits. You really feel the bump. I dropped the tip down and cranked the 6 to 6 ratio Quantum Pulse Bait caster. Nailed both. Polmar knot held firm too. Man, It was hot 10-2-19. Come on fall. Suppose to be in the high 60's by the weekend. See ya! At the Lake's. Shawn.
Absolutely the best explanation about setting brakes and tension on a bait casting reel I ever seen or heard. This young man knows his reel. Excellent explanation, very good job young fella.👍👍👍
Damn, I bought onee of these kinds of reels and didn't even know it had brakes until right nowLOL. I had to develop the thumb technique on my own. This would have been much easier haha
Great video! I had recently purchased a bait caster and tried to cast it in the back yard and had no luck. I ended up taking it back. This video has given me the guidance and confidence to get one again! I will let you know how I make out.
Skowdotzka Reik did you get it yet cuz if you didn’t and it’s your first one go with something else if you don’t have patience it very hard when you start out with it
Thanks for mentioning that the backlash could happen at the start , middle or end of the cast. I have not seen anyone talking about it in any other videos. I will start to pay attention to this issue.
Just started using a bait caster because I wanted to do some more fishing and this video literally has helped a ton. Broke everything down and helped me understand. Thank you!.
Another GREAT video DEBO. Another small tip I was taught is to rotate your wrist so the spool is vertical an not horizontal. It helps to allow the spool to rotate on its axis better...or so I have been told but it did/does seem to help me a LOT with overhead/hand casting...but I primarily do the rolling sidearm cast to keep the bait lower and enter the water with less noise/splash. Keep up the great videos DEBO!
It takes a bit. I started when I was young. The most important thing is to just keep putting time in on it. I'd say after a season you should feel comfortable with it.
I have had my baitcaster for over a year, used it twice in that time because i did not know how to set it up. Since watching your video's today, I was casting in the back yard for over two hours and only one small backlash. You are truly awesome sir! BTW love the purple socks! Only a real man can wear purple. Lol! Thanks for the solid info.
Hahah you're very welcome my friend! It just takes consistent practice like any new things we do. Appreciate you watching and hope you catch some biggins!
I’ve been wanting to get back into fishing lately. It’s been 10-12 years since I’ve been. I told my friends about how I wanted to get back into it and it just happen to be the same day his girlfriends mom bought a TON of fishing stuff at a yard sale. So I go over too check it out and the only good reel was a baitcaster. It was 85% ocean tackle and rods. So I thought w.e. I’ll take it and trade it or something to a friends or family member. So I ask my step dad what he has since he fishes a lot in the sac river. And all he had was a baitcaster that he said I could have. So I figured I’d just learn how to use em. Lol. Your video was a huge help. Thank you. Sorry for the long story just thought I’d share it lol
I’ve just started playing around with my first baitcaster and the one thing I’ve learned is that the easiest way to remove a backlash is with my pocket knife 😩😭.
Lol it can seem like that at first. Turn the brakes up and start with more of a sidearm lobbing cast. As you get more comfortable back the brakes off. Like anything new it will just take some practice. Good luck man!
Hey Debo. Last year I purchased my first bait casting combo. I've only attempted to cast a couple times but did experience my first "birds nest" however had not had more time since I last used it to keep practicing. While I watched this video something I realized of why my cast weren't as accurate as I would have liked it to be. I bought the Abu Garcia Black Max. For a beginner as myself I felt it would be a good combo to learn on. Here's where I began to realize what my problem was. I rigged a Texas craw with a 1/8 bullet weight but however my rod recommends 3/8 to 3/4 and the rod I have is a Med heavy rod. The reason why I chose to use the 1/8 bullet weight is because where I fish, there is lots of large rocks and probably boulders and well the heavier the weight the quicker the fall in the water. And of course the longer you leave your bait on bottom the chances to get snagged. From what you can read what would be a good help for me while I continue to learn how to use bait castor? What perceptions could you give while I make mistakes and learn how to find new ways to fish?
Yep, 1/8oz is way to light for that setup. I'd throw that light of weight on a spinning rig. I think 1/4th and up you'll have a lot easier time. Try swimming around a 3/8oz chatterbait or a paddle tail with a 1/4oz belly weighted hook. I'd go 12lb line if you're not using heavy lures.
I didn’t add in my comment but I do have 12lb line on there now, and now knowing that 1/8 is too light, I am definitely making the switch to 1/4 and I think for a med heavy fast action rod I can go up to a 3/8 even. But the river I fish in I’d get myself stuck on bottom more times then I’d catch a fish. But I’m learning the technique of swimming the life’s as like Texas rig craw. But dude, this video is SOO helpful for inexperienced bass anglers. But RUclips, is definitely my friend in learning the right steps. I just wish I could get out more.
Thanks for watching man! I'm aware of this but every video I have done are saying it's the other. So I did one as centri-few-gull. I believe it's the english/British pronunciation. As long as the video helps folks, that's what I'm after.
This video convinced me to get a baitcaster to try. Always been a spinning guy. First time using my reel tonight and I followed your steps best I could remember. No backlashes, til I started messing with my settings a lot trying to get better distance. Same lure I can can chuck out there 100 feet with my spinning rod, I got maybe half the distance with the baitcaster. Got a Lews American Hero Camo reel, it has like 17 different magnetic settings. I kept it around 5 clicks and messed with the spool tension a lot. Now rewatching this gives me hope. Think instead of reducing my magnetic brakes, I should be bumping them up and reducing the spool tension. I have my thumb on the spool and can feel the reel go a little crazy at the start, so I put a little bit of pressure down, but it wasn't helping when things got really sideways.
Bro, my sock game is on point! Haha started as a joke from my wife. I embraced it and now I have crazy socks. Debo gets the last laugh hahah thanks for watching man!
Debo, I’ve been watching your videos a lot and I think you are possibly the best teacher when it comes to bait selection and combo setup I have learned so much from you. My only point of contention is something that many fishermen simply don’t care about and that’s the ethical side of fishing. I have come to use barbless hooks because they are much easier on the fish and if you choose to throw the fish back which is mostly what I see you do in your videos I think it is the more humane option. You could say it doesn’t make a difference but I think it does and with modern hook shape/design you won’t lose as many fish with a barbless hook as you might think. Also, consider releasing fish gently back into the water and maybe set the drag on your reel a little bit lighter and don’t crank on them unnecessarily hard (don’t reel in when they’re fighting hard) so that you aren’t traumatizing the fish and lowering it’s chances of survival due to multiple factors. After all, the fish being alive and healthy are why we are able to go fishing and I would love your videos so much more if I saw a little more of the ethical fisherman that I’ve described thank you Debo for the vast knowledge you’ve given me as a fisherman and also the entertainment of just watching you fish you are truly one of the best RUclips fishing channels and I hope you can incorporate a little of what I have said here into your fishing peace out feeshin friend
Wonderful commentary and instructional video. However, you really need to pay attention closely to Debo. His talk speed is second to none. This is the only baitcasting instructional video I have watched from beginning to end. Without a doubt, this one will be bookmarked on my computer. Thank you Debo, great stuff!
Like Debo said it’s the same for all lures down to 3/8oz and even 1/4 with the proper line and rod but anything below that you have to purchase a reel designed for light baitcasting application.
DEBO'S Fishing and you don’t have to thank me for watching. I watch as soon as I get the notification. You break things down better than any other youtuber I watch. Also, have you ever been to Clinton Iowa? I’ve been to Ankaney (spelling?) when I was a kid and in like 97 we took a tour in a ryder truck we turned into a tour bus. We were in Clinton Iowa for almost 2 weeks and let me tell you, that has to be the smelliest place in the US!! 😂
I fished today with a bait caster that I got for Father’s Day! I listened to this, and only had 1 time where I had an issue haha but it was great! I got pretty far but I gotta work on distance
100% aware my friend. I pronounced it senˈtrif(y)əɡəl in previous videos and had multiple people argue it. Centri-few-gul is the proper British pronunciation. All depends on where your from. Thanks for watching bud.
I'm American and I pronounce it sen-tri-few-gull in the same manner he does. All depends on your state andp who thought you how to talk. You obviously understood what he was saying, so why is it such a big deal?
Great video Debo HUGE help
Thanks man, appreciate the love!
justinc
I'm new to using a baitcaster and this video was super helpful. Thank you.
I haven't even finished the video yet, and this is still the best, most in depth and well explained baitcaster video I've found.
I appreciate that a lot man. Hope this helps you out 👊
Yes sir
You're 100% correct on what your comment said this is the best in most in-depth casting video that I have seen as well. I really like the way this guy explains things.
I'm a 53 yr. old man who has used spinning gear my entire life. Because of your videos, I decided it was time I learned how to use a baitcaster. I bought 5 inexpensive combos, went outside and began following your instructions. That was 8 months ago now and I must say that I absolutely love baitcasters. Thanks for the help
Heck yeah! That's awesome to hear sir! Keep fishing and tight lines!
Same but 40 - just bought my first baitcaster combo , its about time i leveled up. This video was immensly helpful. Im excited .
Same here. 50. 😁
20 anti-backlash videos in, this one was absolutely the best.
Thanks.
That means a lot to me man. Glad it helped you out 👊
Same here man 😂
This is not only an AMAZING tutorial on setting brakes and spool tension, this is a FANTASTIC tutorial on casting as well!!!
Almost three years later, you're still helping people. Thanks so much for this video!
Just got my Quantum Pulse Bait caster today. My friend bought me for my birthday. Never was good at them. So my friend got me to try again! So I am watching how to set this thing up. Will try a practice before really fishing. Fall starts tomorrow. Wish me luck! SHAWN
Good luck my man. Like anything new it will just take some consistent practice. Thanks for watching and don't get discouraged with a backlash or two!
Shawn
That makes me very happy to hear my vids have helped! Thanks for supporting my channel and tight lines!
Yeah, great tip man! Best to keep them the same way if you don't know any different. Thanks for watching 👊
You're welcome! Thank you very much for watching!
So are you still using the star trek reel or did ya switch to spinning 😆jk
Open face Spinning reels are straight forwards and should operate like the one you're used to.
Yes! That's awesome man, very glad to help out! Have a good weekend and thanks for watching!
You're very welcome my man. Love hearing that the video is helping folks out. Thanks for watching and tight lines!
I found the video again and subscribed, I even sent it to a friend that is having bait caster problems.
@@luckyx16 thanks for becoming a #verifiedfeeshinfriend. I hope the video helps your friend out. Thanks for watching 👊
I never touched a Caster until watching your videos and being a complete NEWB I always start with everything turned all the way up. Then back off the tention knob, then outside brakes and inside brakes. In the back yard of course. That way come fishing day I’m good to go!! Thanks debo!! 15# flourokote too
I appreciate all the support on my videos man. Glad to help you out!
Great video . I was taught all this by my father who did tournament fishing 20 years ago , good to see someone passing on good quality knowledge 👍
My old man taught me as well. I'm no pro but happy to share what I know. Thanks for watching man!
I took a 22 year hiatus from fishing and was pretty solid with baitcasters before I quit. Now I've got a new reel in the mail and needed a little overview which I greatly appreciate - thank you!
Watched several times, practiced several times, then watched again. I may be able to go fishing with my baitcaster now! Thx!
Awesome! Good luck on the water. Like anything new it just takes consistent practice!
Thanks!
That's awesome to hear! Glad that my vids have helped out. They take some practice but they are fun once you get the hang of tossing it!
You're welcome man. I'm glad my video helped out. Good luck my friend 👊
You're welcome man. Hope the video helped out 👊
Tiberius c man me too today 🤦🏽♂️
Im usually not one for comments but this video deserves a thumbs up. Most videos on this subject go through the steps to set up but no understanding of troubleshooting issues. Especially adding the factor of distance and how it relates to the settings. Add the slightly fast talking and you have a perfect video. Great work!
Just started fishing again and almost quit on my baitcaster before watching this video. Awesome stuff, thanks Debo!!
Sorry I missed this comment man. That's awesome to hear that my vid helped! Tight lines 👊
This is the Best Advice and demonstration about a Baitcaster Ever. This tops any other video I've ever watched, honestly. Thanks ,Man👍🤜🤛
Appreciate that man 👊
I've been Baitcasting for 2 years in the beginning I had Mono but Switched to Braid even on my Spinner
But I could Never get my Magnets right or Spool tension so I use my thumb for both Haha
It just became a habit because I like cast far and with no tension is the only way on my Cheap ass Shakephere Agility.
That's awesome man, you're way ahead of the game! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much!!!! As a recently retired Audio/Video Production teacher I really appreciated
1) Finally learning how to understand my baitcast reel and the principles in play, and
2) Finally, someone who uses a quick dissolve when cutting between shots from the same angle.
LOL
Is it true that purple socks makes you catch more, and also do they make em for men
why are we gendering socks....
@@yese1697 you'll get over it
Lmao
This is the best breakdown and description of what part of the cast the magnet brakes helps and what part of the cast the centrifugal brakes helps. Good stuff debo
Just bought my first baitcaster already had to reline it twice this video was extremely helpful
I'm glad it helped out man. Keep practicing with it! Like anything else, just takes a bit of patience to learn. Good luck!
That's so awesome to hear man. I'm glad my vid could help out. Good luck on the water!
How you don’t have over 10,000k plus subs for the socks alone I’ll never understand... Awesome job as always!
Hahaha thanks man, appreciate your support! Have a good weekend!
Well said my friend! Thanks for watching!
About a year ago I tried picking up a bait caster and watched RUclips videos to get a better understanding of why I was getting so many back lashes but no one explained it this well and I am definitely thinking about picking it back up
Watched your other vids on this but being as tomorrow is day i start my "Baitcaster Journey" This is great timing. Thanks man :-)
Awesome man, glad I could help! Have a good weekend!
This is honestly the best tutorial I've seen on using a bait caster as a beginner. Seriously, thank you!

That means the world to me. Thank you very much!
I have been contemplating getting a bait caster your videos have finally made me make the jump, now I just need to make the trek out and look for it, just so many to choose from.
Nice! They are a fun versatile tool for fishing. What is your price range? A lot of options around $100. Daiwa fuego, revo x, Lew's LFS, etc.
don't do it. Debo's tips help but its still like getting a pet porcupine. I'm replacing my bait casters with bail spinners.
I've learned so much from you and I just caught pb bass 7.5 lbs
YYYYEEEESSSSS! That's awesome! That's bigger than mine!
My pb is a 7.1 largemouth
I've been fishing baitcasters since I was 10 years old and got a Shimano Bantam for Christmas, that was 42 years ago. Although your video didn't teach me anything I watched it because I like to see other peoples perspectives on things like this. I must say, you did an AMAZING job of explaining all the physics, principals and reasons for settings.
I am certain you turned many baitcaster nightmares into baitcaster dreams with this tutorial and for that I appreciate it.
Excellent work my friend!
This video explained a lot I just bought my first abu Garcia black max bait caster thanks for the info

New Break in today for my new bait caster, nothing fancy just a cheapo abu black max. Haven't thrown one in about 20 years thank you DEBO for the refresher. I think you saved me a bunch of headache's this afternoon.
OMG 😮 this was soooooo good and funny it helped me so much thank you 1 only go 1 backlash in a 2 hour session

What is your setting when you pitching and flipping?
I keep the settings the same as when I pitch and flip as I do casting. Spool tension so there is only a TINY bit of side to side play. I adjust the brakes so I can cast comfortably.

“You shouldn’t be trying to send your bait into the next country” 💀😂😂😂
Thanks for watching man 👊
This has been so helpful for me and my son
That's awesome, so glad I could help ya'll! Take care!
That's awesome man! I'm confident you'll get it down, just takes practice. Hit me up if you have any questions! Thanks for watching!

Exelitive thanks but I kinda got it starting to get better though haha
DEBO'S Fishing yup! Patience help a lot too haha thanks
Skowdotzka Reik your welcome man
Thanks for mentioning that the backlash could happen at the start , middle or end of the cast. I have not seen anyone talking about it in any other videos. I will start to pay attention to this issue.
You're welcome! Hope the vid helps you out 👊👊👊
Heh debo. That was nice of yer grandma lettin you borrow her bloomers. Yer little sisters socks are nice too!
Best baitcaster video I’ve seen! I’ve been starting out on old baitcasters instead of new ones and this video STILL helped. Thanks!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's passion baby. You did make me laugh. Thumbs um man and no axe chopping..
Just started using a bait caster because I wanted to do some more fishing and this video literally has helped a ton. Broke everything down and helped me understand. Thank you!.
Hahaha only question is where did you get those funky shorts and purple socks man I need me some of those!
Yea, don't have any clue. They were on clearance haha.
That's a great tip and and I tell folks that too. Thanks for watching man 👊
How long did it take you to learn how to use a bait caster? When did you feel comfortable with it?
It takes a bit. I started when I was young. The most important thing is to just keep putting time in on it. I'd say after a season you should feel comfortable with it.
Watched several videos on using baitcasters. This is by far the best. Appreciate the details of how it works and then the practical demonstration.
But Debo what if I don’t have thumbs?
Call A NET... I've heard she's got strong hands!
😂😂😂
I would suggest a Shimano Dc reel
I have had my baitcaster for over a year, used it twice in that time because i did not know how to set it up. Since watching your video's today, I was casting in the back yard for over two hours and only one small backlash. You are truly awesome sir! BTW love the purple socks! Only a real man can wear purple. Lol! Thanks for the solid info.
Hahah you're very welcome my friend! It just takes consistent practice like any new things we do. Appreciate you watching and hope you catch some biggins!
Always great! Would buy Feesh branded merch FYI 😉
Hahah thanks brother! Maybe someday man!
Heck yea! I love hearing how people get into fishing. I'm glad the vid helped man. Just practice with it and you'll be good I no time! 👊👊👊
This is the video that sold me on your channel. Informative and entertaining. I miss the how-to videos, on any topic.
Wonderful presentation. It would help if you did not talk so fast.
Daniel Stammann think he’s mega excited 😆
if he talked slower this would be a 2 hour video.... :)
The word is SEN-TRIFF-IC-KULL!!!
Thanks for watching man! I'm aware of this but every video I have done are saying it's the other. So I did one as centri-few-gull. I believe it's the english/British pronunciation. As long as the video helps folks, that's what I'm after.
@@DEBOSFishing Fair enough! I love your videos!!
@@balamont1150 thanks man, I appreciate the support 👊👊👊
@Wheaten Zoomies hahah thanks man, I just love fishing 👊
There's no "c" or "k" in centrifugal. It's pronounced sin-trif-i-gull.
Them socks tho
Ha, I thought it was just me who found humor in that!

@@danmidkiff5416 hahah too funny. 👊
I like the cutoff pyjama pants !
The real secret to never backlashing again? Purple sox.
Truth! Hahaha thanks for watching man 👊
Wonderful commentary and instructional video. However, you really need to pay attention closely to Debo. His talk speed is second to none. This is the only baitcasting instructional video I have watched from beginning to end. Without a doubt, this one will be bookmarked on my computer. Thank you Debo, great stuff!
Appreciate that a lot man! Thanks for watching and supporting my channel 👊
You said Game Genie and dated both of us.....
Hahah yep! We old my man!
I thought the same thing lol
@@longobardilounge8238 hahah yea, we old 🤣😂👊
YES!!!! This is my videos!!! Honestly just for light lures. Also in depth on the best ways to adjust your breaks for light lures.
Depends on how light. If I'm throwing a weightless stick bait, I do what I showed here. Thanks for watching man!
Like Debo said it’s the same for all lures down to 3/8oz and even 1/4 with the proper line and rod but anything below that you have to purchase a reel designed for light baitcasting application.
Yea, real light lures I would just go spinning reel. Thanks for watching man!
DEBO'S Fishing I’m still learning everything I can about baitcasters, rods, and so on. What makes a baitcaster good for light lures?
DEBO'S Fishing and you don’t have to thank me for watching. I watch as soon as I get the notification. You break things down better than any other youtuber I watch. Also, have you ever been to Clinton Iowa? I’ve been to Ankaney (spelling?) when I was a kid and in like 97 we took a tour in a ryder truck we turned into a tour bus. We were in Clinton Iowa for almost 2 weeks and let me tell you, that has to be the smelliest place in the US!! 😂
This is pornhub for fishing... thanks man... come on guys suscribe
Bwhwhwhaah. Thank you for watching my friend!
I fished today with a bait caster that I got for Father’s Day! I listened to this, and only had 1 time where I had an issue haha but it was great! I got pretty far but I gotta work on distance
Sin-triff-a-gull..... NOT “Central-Field Goal”
100% aware my friend. I pronounced it senˈtrif(y)əɡəl in previous videos and had multiple people argue it. Centri-few-gul is the proper British pronunciation. All depends on where your from. Thanks for watching bud.
DEBO'S Fishing Know the room..... You’re not in Britain.
@@theblake5356 thanks for watching bud. Have a good weekend!
I'm American and I pronounce it sen-tri-few-gull in the same manner he does. All depends on your state andp who thought you how to talk. You obviously understood what he was saying, so why is it such a big deal?
Ive been fishing for 30 years i never use a baitcaster but i woke up one morning and said i wanna learn so i order one i can't wait for it to come
